Heartwarming, sweet romance about a soldier wounded in battle who finds love where he least expects it. Amputee Corporal Tommy Johnson is rehabbing in a VA hospital near his small hometown in Texas and hiding from everyone, but a nice surprise of events helps him to have his happily ever after.

I really love this author. She normally writes paranormal romance, but cute little gem is a sort of military romance. It's very short, but does pack a punch to your heart.
The scene is set in a veterans hospital with main characters Tommy and Abby as the focus of the story. Tommy is an amputee and Abby is a volunteer at the hospital. They both went to high school together and though she totally noticed him while in school he wasn't the nicest guy back then. Neither of them looks quite the same as they did at that time. Tommy struggles with the reality that he has lost his leg and he now feels he has confidence problems with women wanting a broken man.
A valuable lesson is learned in this lovely short love story.....never judge a book by it's cover or in this case never judge a person on the way they look physically....see the person for what they are on the inside to truly know them.
Tommy, a newly disabled veteran, meets Abby, a nurse technician and old classmate he doesn’t remember, again at the VA hospital where he was transferred to stateside. I wish there had been more of the book, it reads more like a prequel to a series than a new adult romance. I liked it and anyone could take a chance on Tommy and Abby while they reconnect in this short, sweet romance read.
I received a free audio copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
I received a free copy from InstaFreebie Short and sweet. Bully/Victim trope are my least favorite but this one was well-written and well received. I thought she called them by rank to give respect.
I had no idea when I signed up to read this book that it was going to be so short and after I finished it I looked it up and found out that a category existed in amazon for 45 minute reads. Tommy lost his leg in the military and ended up at a VA hospital about forty five minutes away from home which he wasn't too thrilled about since he didn't want people to see him the way he was now. He meets his nurse Abby and is instantly attracted to her. He figured out he knew her from his past and has to figure out how to get through to her to give him a chance. The book felt like a beginning of a serial to me but I'm pretty sure it's not. I wouldn't mind reading it as a serial if it were one but the way it ended just wasn't an ending to me and if I had known beforehand that it was a short story I probably wouldn't have read it just because I like the feeling of a story finishing. I received this ebook ARC, from the author, on the condition that I write an honest review. This book was an emotional journey for Tommy and Abby, both have had changes in their Lives. Having known each other when they had attended High School, their memories are totally different, but they decide to resolve these bad memories. Tommy is a soldier, who is experiencing a traumatic experience. While in the hospital, he meets a former high school student from his past. He is suffering from anger, and shame, from the loss of his leg, but meeting Abby, brightens his life. Abby had been ridiculed, while in her youth, but changed her life for the better. She remembers Tommy, but her memories of him, are not good, and confronts him about how he had previously treated her. Tommy realizes, that his life is worth living, and attempts to include Abby in his future. The couple have healed, and accept each other, with a possible HEA.
This is a sweet 2nd chance kind of book…not 2nd chance like old lovers finding their way back but old acquaintances being put together. The couple have to look at their past and deal with how it is hindering their present.
Tommy was the all-star hot jock everyone loved. He was also kind of a jerk because he was the hot all-star stud. Abby was the butt of the popular kids jokes but who was also there to help with failing grades in school. When roles are reversed and Abby is the hot shot and Tommy is the self-conscious Veteran, the two have a hard time remembering past issues and present roles.
Taking Chances by Regina Morris is a sweet short story that I'm hoping will be made into a serial. I loved it. My heart melts when it comes to military vets honorably serving our country and what they go through to ensure our freedom, so I was anxious to read this tale, and I wasn't disappointed.
The main character Tommy got wounded in combat. The story takes place at a VA hospital. I'm not going to go into detail about Tommy's injury or what happens since it's a short story, but his nurse happens to be a gal he knew back in high school, who teaches him a thing or two about himself.
Taking Chances is a well-written tale about accepting the hand you were dealt, self-discovery, and mending a relationship. The only compliant I have about this book is it was too short. I want more! Please make this a serial.
I WANT MORE!! The moment I finished this story I was instantly checking to see if there was more of the story I could read! Abby and Tommy went to high school together but she was never on his radar. Growing up as the chubby girl, Abby knew that she could never attract a guy like Tommy. But what happens when Tommy finds out that she is his nurse at the VA hospital after he gets hurt. Will Abby be able to get over how she was treated in high school and possibly give Tommy a shot, or did his past actions ruin it?
Tommy and Abby went to school together when they were younger and hadn't seen each other since graduation. They meet up when he is in the hospital dealing with trauma, shame and anger from the loss of his leg. Their memories of High School are completely different. As a teenager, Abby had been ridiculed because of her weight. She changed her life for the better after graduation. She remembers Tommy, but not in a good way and confronts him about how he treated her back then, and he realizes that he was in the wrong back then. Short, sweet romance.
I found Taking Chances to be a sweet read, but I felt that it was only the beginning of their story. The blurb led me to believe that it had a HEA ending and that they fell in love. This may be the case but the story to me seemed unfinished. As a short story it is cute but it had the potential to be a much more substantial story with more character development to allow the reader to become emotionally invested in the story.
I enjoyed this free copy I received. I definitely have a soft spot for the wounded vets. I would have liked to have seen just a little bit more background info on Abby & Tommy, but overall it was an enjoyable quick read that pulled you in right away. I only like short stories if I don't have much time before bed or going somewhere, since I'm notorious for getting too involved to put a book down.
Received this free from the author and I offer this review freely. A sweet fast listen. Tommy, high school football hero, has returned from war missing a leg and his engagement broken. Wanting to avoid people and uncertain how to get on with his life, he meets someone from his past.
Taking Chances is a moving and sensitive story that you will enjoy. Good character development as we see Tommy come to terms with his disability and become more mature.
