I was lucky enough to have a chat with J.M Donallen at a small book signing and had my copy of this book signed by him as well. Donallen had an amazing personality and inspired me to begin writing. This is a bit more of a review on the author rather than the book itself so I must add that the poetry was just beautiful. A wide range from comedy to deep complex self reflection. This book was one of the first ‘poetry books’ I’ve read and I’m happy to say that it’s made an excellent impression on poetry for me. Thank you J.M Donallen!!
"My closest relationship is with a woman called... Siri Who always listens and is there for me Although sometimes I ask her, 'Darling, where should we go and get pancakes?' And she replies, 'Sorry, did you say you want information on earthquakes?'"
Stendhal syndrome is a book of JM Donellan’s collected poetry works. I have seen Donellan perform many of these pieces and he is a brilliant spoken word performer. These poems are just as powerful to read on the page as when heard spoken on stage. They are stirring, insightful, funny and heart-warming. These poems make you feel. They make you contemplate politics, religion, morality and the human condition all within a few pages. Donellan has an incredible command of language and I think his poetry is incredible. I really enjoyed this book.
