This is the first Elisabeth Grace book that I've read, but it certainly won't be the last! I finished this book in one sitting. I could not put this book down from start to finish. It completely consumed me until I had devoured the entire book and jumped right into the second book.
The opening is a little ominous, but it grabbed my attention from the very first sentence. The author did a beautiful job of foreshadowing things to come and building suspense. After the opening passages, I was constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop and I lived with a sort of background anxiety until everything came full circle. Then, I totally got it.
Emily, aka "Brandi", is an expensive call girl with a rich and famous clientele. Her ability to remain emotionally detached from her work, perceptive abilities and chameleon-like adaptability have made her very sought after. Most importantly, she needs the financially lucrative work in order to provide the expensive medical treatment that her nine year-old son requires.
Emily lives two completely different lives. By day, she is a devoted mother. She spends her nights catering to the sexual whims of her clients, as Brandi.
When she breaks her own rules and gets emotionally attached to a client, the consequences are far-reaching. Soon, her two worlds collide. Reality closes in on her and she has far more to lose than she ever realized.
Marco Valenti, the uber-wealthy client that has booked her exclusively for the entirety of his stay in Las Vegas, has secrets. His feelings for Brandi might be genuine, but they place her in more danger than he could have ever anticipated. The fall out is unpredictable, and tragic.
Once I started this story, I could not put it down. Marco was high-handed and arrogant, but he worked his way under my skin. On the other hand, Brandi was a character that I connected with immediately. As their relationship grew more intimate, I knew that they were headed for heartache.
Even so, I never could have guessed where this story was going to go. The ending left me gob smacked. I was absolutely shocked. This book left me emotionally devastated and dying to see what would become of Brandi after the shocking ending. I immediately downloaded the second book and dived in.
I would definitely recommend this book to other romance/erotica fans. It blew me away. While some themes were familiar, the story came to life so beautifully that I didn't even care. I thought that this was a fantastic and highly engaging story!

Totally HOOKED!
Hook is the first part of The Duplicity duet by Elizabeth Grace and I have to say this book took me by surprise. I found myself deeply rooted to the story and couldn't put the book down.
Emily aka Brandi is a high class paid escort and a single mom of a 9 years old boy with special needs due to his medical condition, Daniel. Hooking gave Emily the gift of being able to spend all the time she wanted with her son, since she had to work very little to make a lot. Beyond keeping her son in good health, Emily needs to set aside lot of money to achieve the big plans she has for the two of them. She’d been taking online business courses for years to achieve her ultimate goal of one day opening a center to support other children with muscular dystrophy. To ensure her son the best possible life, Emily will do whatever it took to make it happen, even if it means doing the oldest profession in the world.
« Society might look down their noses at my chosen profession, but I was supporting myself and my son. I wasn’t relying on the system, so why should they care that my pussy paid the bills? »

Hook is beautifully written with complex characters, drama, action, even some humor, secrets, raw emotions, depth, and romance that warmed my heart. I loved the sizzling chemistry and super steamy scenes between Marco and Emily. There was one particular scene about the Tantra practice that I found incredibly intense and HOT. This book ended in a huge heart stopping cliffhanger that left me screaming and crying my eyes out. Damn!

Brandi is one of the best call girls in Vegas. She's not ashamed of what she does for a living as long as her personal life stays seperated from that part of her life. She's a single mother of a special in need boy at morning and at night she works in order to pay for his medication, expensive equipment and everything in between.
Marco comes in Vegas for business and in the meanwhile he hires Brandi for his stay there. As soon as he meets her he gets enchanted and the attraction seems mutual between them, even though Brandi tries to keep a distance between them at first, since she can't mix her job with personal life.
But Marco seems to have some enemies in town and these enemies will interfere with them, twisting everything and making a big mess for them to solve.
I really enjoyed Hook! That was my first read by Elisabeth and after meeting those characters and her writing I can tell that it won't be my last one! But how can it be?? After that evil cliffie, I am already impatient for the next book in the series!!! Why did you do this to us?? I already have my theories, since I know italian & I'm hoping that last italian phrase means that there is hope, but all remains to be seen in the next one!
Bravo Elisabeth! I would definitely recommend this one to my friends, especially if they like a Pretty Woman kind of romance and can't wait to read the second part of Hook! Until we meet again, Marco...

I love Duet books because I feel like you get more out of the story and also you know it’s going to end in a cliff hanger, although I don’t mind cliffys so I’m okay with being surprised by them.
I really liked the cover and the premise of the book, yes, she’s a prostitute and yes, he’s a wealthy Italian business man, what more could you ask for?
The prologue is silly, I would skip it and just start with chapter one. I hate foreshadowing and that’s what it is, it tells you how the Heroine feels and thinks at the end of the book. No thanks.
The book is in both Brandi and Marco’s POV. I really enjoyed that because one, I liked to know what Brandi was thinking and two, Yes, I really wanted to know what Marco’s thinking.
Brandi isn’t your typical escort she doesn’t do it because she enjoys sex or because she’s this young woman and loves to buy pretty things, no, she does it because she has a sick child at home. And yes GASP. It’s a single parent book. I had no idea and how wonderful is that? I really enjoyed Brandi and her son’s relationship I found it endearing and adorable. I couldn’t get enough of it. I also thought Brandi was strong and with a good head on her shoulders.
Marco is a kind of iffy on me. I don’t dig the Italian accent or the constant Italian phrases throughout the book and I don’t know why. This isn’t my first time I’ve read a book where the Hero wasn’t American. There was something that just didn’t click with me when it came to Marco. I needed to warm up to him.
I thought the relationship between Brandi and Marco moved fairly quickly and it lacked a TINY BIT of chemistry and because of this it never hit the five star mark for me. I felt like the writing needed to be tweaked just a tad bit. I think I wanted more character build up. Also, Marco was a little mysterious with all of his business calls and business associates that popped in and out of his life, but it never reached anything for me. I think if the author developed that a bit more I would have been happy.
Overall, I loved the storyline and the attempt of the story. I think the writing needed to be tweaked just a tad bit, but I will of course read the second book when it comes out in July. I’m a fan of the author.

So much more than I expected 4.5 stars
I downloaded the sample just to see if this was a book to put on my to-read list, I didn't check the reviews because I'd no intention of actually reading it now but a couple of pages in and I found myself hooked, I mention this because there's a cliffhanger, a huge cliffhanger and if I'd realised this before I started I'd have waited but by the time I found out there was no way I was putting it down, at least I don't have to wait too long it's due out 26th July.
By night Brandi is a high class escort by day she's a loving and devoted mother to nine year old Daniel, Daniel suffers from a rare form of muscular dystrophy and Brandi's job allows her to provide everything he needs plus be with him everyday.
Sex wise she's never been lucky, her first experience left her pregnant and since then she's never been attracted to any of her clients until now that is.
Marco is visiting Vegas on business and he hires Brandi for the night but as soon as he sees her he knows one night will not be enough. Brandi is shaken she's never felt attraction like this before, she's drawn to him and must remember the rules.
'Rule number two—never fall for your client.'
As Marco and Brandi see more of each other the more their attraction grows but who exactly is Marco?
Right that's all you're getting, I don't want to risk spoiling this for you I'll just say it was so much more that I expected and I can't wait for 'Burn' to come out.

Hook (Duplicity Duet #1) by Elisabeth Grace
4 stars!!!
I am officially Hooked!! This is the first book in a duet so is not a complete story and at the end all I needed was the rest. This is more like a romantic suspense and to be honest I am still not sure about who to trust. Elisabeth Grace perfectly wove suspense throughout this real life Pretty Woman story…or is it?
Emily a.k.a. Brandi to her clients is a high end escort. For Emily this is a means of survival for her and her son. Her son has muscular dystrophy and needs a lot of medical care and various therapies and being a single mum, on her own in a brand new city she did the only she could to provide whatever her son needed. Emily was a fantastic mother and while the way she earned her money was not the best it was what needed to be done and I admired her for it. Between working nights and home schooling all day, all her time was taken doing what was right for her son and her own happiness was way down on her radar.
Marco Valenti was an enigmatic Italian that barged into Emily’s life. Having hired her for a night it was obvious that one night was never going to be enough. For Marco it was love at first sight and being the Italian stallion that he was, he wasn’t going to take no for an answer. However, I am still undecided on Marco, while on the outside he seems perfect, he seems too good to be true. Maybe he really is, but for a man we hardly know anything about and a man who keeps his cards very close to his chest I am a bit reticent to believe everything I am reading, especially given the situation that these two find themselves in.
I will say though, if it is an act, then Marco Valenti should be an Oscar winner, because damn he was good and extremely convincing. His relationship with Emily’s son would melt the hardest of hearts and his affections do feel and sound totally genuine, but it is that tangled web that Elisabeth Grace is weaving that leaves that err of caution. I hope for these two that it is the real thing, but with that synopsis I just don’t know what to think…gahhhh…so frustrating.
Marco was an alpha that whispered Italian sweet nothings that will have your ovaries exploding, he was possessive and dominant but he looked after those he loved, hence the current situation. I just wish I knew more about him so I could determine whether or not “this” is real. I desperately want to believe in it and my heart tells me it is, but my head is a bit savvier and tells me otherwise. It is this “is it” or “isn’t it” that adds to the addictiveness of this read. It is quick but I couldn’t put it down.
I am erring towards mafia connections but in one of the few times Marco opens up he vehemently denies it, but the suspense side of this story definitely screams mafia to me. Maybe he just made the wrong enemies, in any case he has something that they want and it is something that he does not have to give…intriguing.
I seriously need book two, I didn’t want this one to finish and just as everything was ramping up it ended, I was devastated. Elisabeth Grace certainly keeps you on the edge second guessing everything you are reading. Who are the bad guys? What is their connection to Marco? What do they want that Marco won’t give up? Guess I’ll be waiting on tenterhooks, but we don’t have long to wait…the answers will all be revealed in June with the release of Burn…I can’t wait.

Hook was fun, sexy as hell and definitely mysterious. Brandi is a high paid escort doing what she has to do to survive and take care of her son. You need to read this book. Stop whatever you are doing and READ THIS BOOK.
I’ve read a few books by Elisabeth Grace and loved the sweet and swoony feel, but Hook was a little bit darker, a lot more erotic than those books. And I loved every second of it.
“Brandi” is a high class escort who is doing whatever it takes to make ends meet, but she never expected Marco to enter her life or to stake his own claim on her. With nothing but mystery revolving around this man, she falls further into his spell when threats are made and her two lives are forced to merge together for the first time.
I fell in complete lust with this story. Marco has to be more than what he appears. I have so many thoughts swirling around my head and I pray that I am right. I really, really need to be right. I am a whore for a good hooker love story and although I think these two will eventually have an epic love, it’s not going to be a road without plenty of bumps along the way.
This is the first part of a duet, so yes there is a cliffhanger – and yes it will leave you cursing the author, but in the end is so worth it. I can’t wait for the next book. I need to know what happens next. I need it. RIGHT NOW.

You get a Cinderella story with a dark edge. And a brilliantly written one at that. This book is told from Brandi’s POV and because of that we are largely kept in the dark with only a hint here and there that some nefarious plot is underway. We know there is danger lurking and we struggle to make sense of all the pieces and we want to shout out a warning that she should get out while she still can.
I mean, we would, if we weren’t so distracted by Marco. The man is still very much a mystery but what we do know is that he is involved in something dangerous and that his motivations are a secret we are not yet privy to. But what we do know is that this Italian is one hell of an alpha that puts your ovaries at risk of exploding. He is forceful at times, gruff and set in his ways but he can also be incredibly sweet and would go very far to get the woman he wants.
So while I still don’t really know what’s going on, and this book ends on a heart stopping cliffy, it was a fantastic and entertaining read that kept me on the edge of my seat. Was it possible to write about an inherently good person doing bad things and have readers root for her?
Yes Elisabeth you did. Every step of the way I was rooting for the heroine. I'm still rooting for her now. And to be honest I think that this is one heroine that I won’t forget this year.

Experience the life on an escort in Las Vegas. Or more than likely Brandi’s life as an escort in Las Vegas. We first meet Brandi with a john and get a feel for her character. I shall only refer to her as Brandi in this book as we don’t find out her real name to the very end. This aspect of the book I loved.
She is real she doesn’t make herself out to be anything that she isn’t. She is candid about her job.
Yes I let them use my body. But I used them, too. I took their money, and in return I fulfilled their deepest fantasies.
She is funny, smart and loyal and will go above and beyond for those that she loves and this is where I was caught and captivated. We find out why she does what she does. She doesn’t have daddy issues or a drug problem. It is unconditional love that makes her do the things that she does.
I. Don’t. Judge. You. Quite the opposite I understand you. Wouldn’t you do anything for your child? We see what her evenings are like and what her days consist of how she looks after her son, Daniel who has muscle dystrophy. A single mother with a special needs kid. Each interaction that she had with her son only solidified the compassion I felt for Brandi.
I personally really liked Brandi. I don’t know how I would have dealt with Brandi’s profession but I wanted to be her friend. I didn’t want her to be alone. I wanted her to share her pain, her hopes and her dreams. What a ride, what an emotional rollercoaster.
This book is outstanding, it is riveting and an engaging read. I laughed at the GFE/PSE, I cried. All the emotional ques set by the author where met to my emotional responses.
The Hero of the book is Marco Valenti. He is a new john for Brandi and their first encounter is unique. It is a battle of the wills but one thing is for sure Brandi is most likely to fail all three escort rules epically.
Somehow my body knew what I didn’t already. Marco Valenti would be the springboard in my life that caused everything to change.
Marco is smooth, intelligent, and powerful combined with his Adonis good looks and being rich and last but not least let’s not forget the Italian accent. He is lethal for any woman. Even the White Witch from Narnia would drop her panties for him.
Marco books Brandi and what started out as a one-time booking turned into a lot more. But Marco has enemies and they have set their sight on Brandi to get what they want from him. He is possessive and obsessed and will do anything for Brandi. He is very alpha but it doesn’t border on treating Brandi like an object. And other men touching her? No.
“I didn’t want his hands on me.” My breath was shallow as I admitted what I’d been trying so hard to keep hidden.
“Why?” His dark eyes were searching as he looked down upon me. “Because they weren’t yours.”
This is where it got difficult for me where I would have liked to have seen his POV because although his character is three dimensional I felt disconnected to him because I didn’t get enough insight to how he ticked. But he accepts her life, her job, her son.
They form a tight relationship I can’t really say what the time span is in how long they knew one another. They were good together. They have chemistry.
“I knew we would be amazing together.” I didn’t admit it to him, but I’d known it too.
I felt as if they could have had a more emotionally connection and although that did happen it happened at the very end and therefore for me it felt rushed. They briefly touch on the demons and the scars that they have. I know why dwell on the past. But at times he is so sweet.
“I see you for who you really are. I don’t look at you and see what you do to make money. I see the woman, the mother, the lover, the friend.”
And then the unthinkable, the unimaginable happens what I never would have really thought Ms. Grace would write and her my heart stopped.
I screamed, the sound of the gunshot reverberating through my head and ripping my soul to shreds. Mine too Brandi, mine too.
And here we see what kind of impact one small word can have.
The eyes of the man I thought loved me bore into me from above, and the realization hits- he is the one responsible.
By the way - I’m still hoping that I’m wrong.
There were some things that niggled at me and apart from that I have nothing negative to say about the book. I also took a gamble with this book as I requested an ARC for the second book and thought, no problem I’ll read the first. All good. Now as Murphy’s Law is my best friend I realized the error of my ways and thought oh shit if you don’t like it then what are you going to do about reading the second one. Well I would have to force myself or skim. Luckily for me I loved this book so it all didn’t backfire on me.
Luckily for me I can go off and read book two.

I knew going in that this book was going to be different and it definitely lived up to that expectation!
Emily/Brandi is a mid to late 20's woman making her life the hard way in Vegas while also caring for her ill son. It's not a traditional life, but it allows her to take care of his needs and be with him during the day. Things rock along until she has a "date" with Marco. Marco is dark and mysterious. He has secrets, but seems drawn to "Brandi."
I had some trepidation about a book where the heroine is a high paid hooker and had I not been familiar with Ms. Grace's other work, I might not have taken a chance on this one. I would have been missing out if I hadn't read it.
While Emily's profession isn't one any mother hopes for her daughter, it's impossible not to like her once you get to know her. The story is written from her point of view, so we get to know her best. Based on her impressions, I liked Marco even though he seemed very stand-offish.
For the majority of Hook, Emily/Brandi is with Marco and their relationship transitions from a business deal to a real relationship. It made it easier to see them both as real people, especially once her son was in the picture. I really started to like both characters and root for them to have a chance to succeed.
Issues in Marco's life rear their ugly head and cause the unthinkable to happen just as this installment of the duet ends. Ms. Grace's excellent effort has me on pins and needles waiting to see what happens next!

Wow! I am totally blown away by how good this book was! I was hooked from the first page and couldn't put this book down. I'm a little hesitant to read books about escorts but this was so well done. The heroine was easy to relate to, which shouldn't have been easy given her profession, but I understood why she chose her line of work and even admired her for it. There was mystery, suspense and super HOT sexy times. This author writes some of the best steamy scenes ever and the ones in this book were amazing! This book ends with a massive cliffhanger and I can't wait to read the next book.

So not what I was expecting in a read! I feel as if I need a moment to rearrange my thoughts. What began as an “in the moment” introduction of “Brandi” maneuvered into a story of a mother’s ultimate sacrifice.
Her client Marco is completely unexpected and sweet. Not to mention that he radiates sexual prowess and power. From the moment these two meet there’s chemistry and a knowing that what will happen between them will be life changing.
I have to say, my feelings were all over the place while reading. I felt just as confused as Brandi did. Is this an erotica read, A “Pretty Woman” read, or a struggling mother read? In all honesty, it’s all three rolled into one fantastic feast of a read.
I will prepare you though; it ends on one hell of a cliffhanger. For those of you that hate that type of ending, you might want to wait till book two has been released before starting, but for those of you that like the feel of a good angsty ending that makes you euphoric for more… well buckle up baby — it's gonna be a bumpy ride!

When the blurb first came out, I knew I was going to be hooked. I immediately knew that I would get some of the angst that I love and a strong heroine. What I got was more than that.

She has skillfully played the game to ensure that. However, she does have new clients from time to time. Nothing to worry about, just something to mentally prepare yourself for the unknown. It’s all business. It’s all a game. That is until her next client. Marco Valenti.
Marco Valenti is her newest client. He’s a charming, good-looking man from Italy with a sexy accent. There is something about Marco that calls to “Brandi.” She’s never had both mental and physical attraction to a client before. Yet Marco seems to charm his way into possibly breaking down her walls. When her life is threatened, she is forced to stay with Marco, only further crumbling her carefully constructed walls. She knew early on that Marco would change her life. Somehow.

He’s a good hearted kid who loves his mother and cares deeply about her happiness.
I’m still not sure about Marco. Elisabeth has created a man who almost seems too perfect when we first meet him.
“Falling for art can be like falling for a person,” he said. “Sometimes you’re drawn to it for reasons you can’t comprehend. It’s either suited to you, or it’s not. Once discovered, it can be difficult to pull your gaze from its beauty.”
Umm…yes! See what I’m talking about? Too good to be true?
Little by little, we get a glimpse of something that hints towards danger. It keeps you second guessing. Is he, isn’t he? I actually really enjoy the pull of that. AND THEN, we get a big BAM at the end of the book that left me reeling even more. I’m torn on how I feel about him. I need Burn NOW so I find out what happens and can actually decide if Marco is the man I want him to be.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. Well done, Ms. Grace. I can’t want to get my hands on the next book.

Yeah I just said Hooker-tastic. Never thought I would come up with such a word. But wow this book. I finished it minutes ago and I can still feel the urge to press next page next page and nothing is happening I want MORE!

I loved how we meet Emily aka Brandi, she is a strong fighting women who has more gumption in her pinky then most people will ever have. She is fierce and loyal and most of all a mother to an incredible little boy who needs more than most. And so that she can provide it for him she does anything necessary for that to happen. So what if she gets paid to sleep with men. It’s a job just like any other only she gets paid a heck of a lot more than just the regular old Joe who owns a bar. Just because someone uses their body to make money does not make them weak or uneducated.
Emily is a character I have a lot of respect for maybe because I am a mother with a son who needs more than most, not the same as hers but it’s a common understanding. You would do and say anything to put your children first. I have no judgement for how she takes care of her son.
Marco comes in to the picture this hot Italian man you just want to get down and dirty with. But no, no you don’t expect him to be so patient. I love this about him, just because he pays for a women’s time and body doesn’t mean he gets to be a bastardo as he calls it.
He’s a formidable business man and knows what he wants and will get it at any cost. Even at the expense of others but he is sly about it you don’t really see it so much as feel it.

Yeah I just said Hooker-tastic. Never thought I would come up with such a word. But wow this book. I finished it minutes ago and I can still feel the urge to press next page next page and nothing is happening I want MORE!

I loved how we meet Emily aka Brandi, she is a strong fighting women who has more gumption in her pinky then most people will ever have. She is fierce and loyal and most of all a mother to an incredible little boy who needs more than most. And so that she can provide it for him she does anything necessary for that to happen. So what if she gets paid to sleep with men. It’s a job just like any other only she gets paid a heck of a lot more than just the regular old Joe who owns a bar. Just because someone uses their body to make money does not make them weak or uneducated.
Emily is a character I have a lot of respect for maybe because I am a mother with a son who needs more than most, not the same as hers but it’s a common understanding. You would do and say anything to put your children first. I have no judgement for how she takes care of her son.
Marco comes in to the picture this hot Italian man you just want to get down and dirty with. But no, no you don’t expect him to be so patient. I love this about him, just because he pays for a women’s time and body doesn’t mean he gets to be a bastardo as he calls it.
He’s a formidable business man and knows what he wants and will get it at any cost. Even at the expense of others but he is sly about it you don’t really see it so much as feel it.

OH MY GOD!!! After reading the last word I just sat, stunned, for a few minutes. This was full of romance and angst. Reminded me a bit of one of my favorite movies, Pretty Woman (in fact, Emily even mentions it in here LOL). I can't say too much without giving away what happens, just know there's a hot Italian guy, Marco, a pretty high-class hooker named Emily who does this for a really good reason, an angry Italian guy named Vito who may or may not have mob connections, and a sweet romance that blooms between Emily and Marco that could totally be over if what happened at the end was really what it sounded like.
This is definitely a cliff-hanger! And I'll be anxiously waiting for the next one.

Well, this book started off with one hell of a bang-you-very-much Prologue. I mean, how can you read that and not be "hooked" (yup, I went there)? Consider myself intrigued and more then amped up to find out what caused such a fiery hunger for revenge. I always love a heroine who is tough and strong, and Emily was just that. Yes she was a paid escort, but she was unapologetic and cut throat about it....no far fetched fairytale idealistic thoughts in sight for this tough cookie.
"This is the part where you judge me. We both know that's what you're doing...but don't bother. It won't make a difference to me. I'm not in need of someone to save my fucking soul."
She truly did have her reasons for doing what she did, and it successfully smoothed out her rough edges, making her more lovable in my book. Every hardened heart has it's weak spots, and we quickly find out what Brandi's kryptonite is. After reading the prologue, you know that something bad is lurking in the shadows, ready to reak havoc. This had my eyes wandering around every turn of the page, waiting for that other awful fucking shoe to drop.
"The eyes of the man I thought loved me bore into me from above, and the realization hits – he is the one responsible."
In the meantime, Brandi gets a new dark, handsome, Italian client who throws her firmly planted feet off kilter. She doesn't know how to handle all these newfound...and very unwarranted feelings that he was effortless pulling from her. He was mysterious, passionate, and sexy as sin. He wanted more from her than just physical desire though...he wanted her heart and more importantly, her secrets.
"His dark eyes never gave much away, but I saw desire there – only this time it was desire for more than just my body. It was for the truth."
I highly enjoyed the possessive parts of Marco, whilst he hunted and claimed what he wanted from Brandi. He wanted all of her, and dammit he was going to get it. And let me tell you, it was HAWT! The lingering secrets of what brought Marco to Vegas in the first place continue to cause problems for the two new lovers. I felt the storm a-brewing, and knew it was going to profoundly rock the already shaky foundation they were able to build.
"I'd been with a lot of men, he was the first one to ever see into my soul. It was exactly what made him so dangerous."
The prologue was reader-catching-enthralling and the characters were developed nicely so that we become invested in their story. The sexual chemistry between Marco and Brandi was passionate and the underlying mystery just added to the dangerous love factor. All in all, I was captured enough from the beginning and the back stories of the main characters to willingly hang tight for their tremulous journey. The ending was a cliffy, of course. I have a love/hate relationship with those damn cliff hangers, but they always seem to do their intended job right? We growl...or shout...or curse (probably a combination of all three) for having to wait to find out what happens next, but it makes us come back needing all those questions answered nonetheless. I am fully committed to finding out what that damn sexual mysterious Italian has been hiding, and how Emily will extract her revenge!! Stay tuned my book junkies...

3.5 stars -- OK, so I will admit that I tend to shy away from mob/mafia feeling books, and with a name like Marco Valenti and a guy with secrets, I had a hunch something like that would appear. It's the same as I shy away from Motorcycle Club books, I just have a hard time falling in love with a hero who does questionable things. But the hooker part intrigued me. And since the author is going to be at a signing event I'm attending, and gave away this book for free, I figured I'd give it a shot. And I must say, I was actually pleasantly surprised for the first more than half!!
For one, it was nice to have a woman in a questionable profession who isn't some virginal girl, but who owns the choices she's made to get where she's at. And who doesn't regret them. And when you learn why she's chosen this path for her life, I could buy it. A son with MD can NOT be an easy financial burden, especially as a young single mother. And I think that's particularly where our heroine shines, in her love for her son Daniel. I really felt her love for him, her worry, and you could see the different choices she was making to truly give him the best life possible. And I LOVED that she had goals outside of that too. Like, with the amount of money she was making, she could have just coasted, but she was going to school, and she had dreams of something more. It really made her a more interesting and 3 dimensional character. That caught me by surprise, and I was impressed with that.
Marco was a bit harder to love, but I also didn't hate him. He had some spectacular moments (such as how he handles Daniel), and I loved how forceful he was about reminding our heroine that she is not just her profession. I thought the balance was good. He could be a bit...emotionally volatile? Or something. That wasn't really a turn on for me. But he had lots of sweet moments as well.
Honestly, I almost rated this one a full 4 stars because I really enjoyed the first part, even despite some reservations... But I started to get a bit impatient/bored near the end of the book, b/c I had forgotten that it was a duet, and so I was wondering when we were going to get some resolution. Answer? We weren't. Cliffhanger. Which is fine. It was my fault for forgetting. And so it just lost a bit of the good steam it had going.
So what were my reservations? Well, what exactly drew Marco to her in the first place? He was quite infatuated. That was mitigated in that at least we got to see them get to know each other, so I could accept the development of the relationship past that point. The name thing was a bit weird too...it went on longer than I was anticipating. And it did pull a few things directly from Pretty Woman, which I didn't feel like it had to be so close (the kissing thing, the opera).
And then we get to the ending. Well, I'm a bit of a skeptical girl, so I don't buy it all. It felt a bit like a cheap play on emotions. And I REALLY don't like where that takes our heroine and hero. In fact, the ending didn't make me super keen on continuing on (despite the fact that having a cliffhanger is supposed to do the exact opposite). So I read a few bad reviews for the next book, and I know darned well that my personal tastes are going to run towards that end of the spectrum, so I think I'll just leave it at this. Once that decision was made, I read some spoilers so I could at least have a question answered. No regrets. Enjoyable book, just not quite in my wheelhouse enough to continue on.

I am a longtime fan of Elisabeth Grace so when I say that this is her best bet you can know that I have read and loved quite a few of them. Full of suspense, surprises ad some of the sexiest scenes ever I was pulled in right away and once I started there was no way I could stop. Typically I do not read a ton of erotica, my heart usually lies with New Adult and Contemporary, but this story is so unique and intriguing it was impossible not to love it.
‘I found myself wondering what it would be like to kiss him. Granted, kissing was all part of the program, but I’d never wanted to kiss a client before.’
‘Brandi’ is a high end escort in Vegas and while she doesn’t love her job she does what she needs to in order to take care of those she truly loves. ‘Brandi’ is impossible not to love and sympathize for and while I hate that she has had to work the job she does I can still somehow understand why she does it. Content to live life the way it has been going and to know that a relationship and love was not in the cards with her she was still decently happy but not fully living. Then EVERYTHING changed when the door opened to reveal her newest client, sexy Italian Marco Valenti.
Marco, Marco, Marco. The two of them are immediately drawn to each other though she does fight it. Marco is very rich alpha billionaire material. He has so many secrets that for every answer we get we have ten more questions. I loved him deeply. He was protective and kind and while he wanted control he never treated her like she was just a call girl. He makes it abundantly clear that from early on he feels more. What makes this book for me is how much I loved both main characters despite the fact that they could not be more different.

Wow! This book was so much more than I was expecting! This book has angst, sexual tension, love, and everything in between.
Emily isn't just a high priced booker, she's is an amazing mother who would do anything for her son.
Marco is sexy and high powered but sweet, he's commanding and sensual and just plain hot! Oh and did I mention he's from Italy!!!!

What the hell?! This was my first read by Elisabeth Grace and it won't be my last. The story is well written, fast paced with lots of mystery and suspense weaved into it. Oh, and a mother of a cliffhanger! This is why I wait to read books until the rest of the series is out. Moving onto Burn!!

Hook is the first book in The Duplicity duet. Apart from the Insta-love, I really enjoyed this story, especially the big heartbreaking cliffhanger in the end. I hope all the mysteries are unraveled in the next book. I can't wait to see how this all will end.

Not really pun intended but this book did hook me from the first page!! The author did a great job of catching me and keeping me on the line!! This is also one of those books that screams out offensive - with the title, cover and even the blurb....and really it's just a sweet romance, a beautiful portrayal of motherhood and sacrifice, with a thriller aspect to it - very much the Italian version of pretty woman!
This is part 1 of a duet and this book ends on a cliffhanger - so Hook + Burn is really just 1 novel broken up into 2 books. I'm excited to start the second half and see how this all plays out. Even with such a short read I have really endeared myself to all the characters. I was sad to see this author doesn't really have too many other books to read - but apparently she is one half of the author duo Piper Rayne - so I will have to check those out!
