Totally HOOKED!
Hook is the first part of The Duplicity duet by Elizabeth Grace and I have to say this book took me by surprise. I found myself deeply rooted to the story and couldn't put the book down.
Emily aka Brandi is a high class paid escort and a single mom of a 9 years old boy with special needs due to his medical condition, Daniel. Hooking gave Emily the gift of being able to spend all the time she wanted with her son, since she had to work very little to make a lot. Beyond keeping her son in good health, Emily needs to set aside lot of money to achieve the big plans she has for the two of them. She’d been taking online business courses for years to achieve her ultimate goal of one day opening a center to support other children with muscular dystrophy. To ensure her son the best possible life, Emily will do whatever it took to make it happen, even if it means doing the oldest profession in the world.
« Society might look down their noses at my chosen profession, but I was supporting myself and my son. I wasn’t relying on the system, so why should they care that my pussy paid the bills? »
« To the outside world, we may just be a hooker and her sick son—and I knew better than most that the world didn’t owe us anything. Early on, life had handed me that lesson on a tarnished silver platter. But I’d be damned if I sat back and let life roll right on over us, leaving its tread marks behind. »
But one man has thrown a wrench in those plans - Marco Valenti, her sexy Italian new client who ignites fires in her that no one has lit before. Marco is the first man to ever see into her soul and it was exactly what made him so dangerous for her.
« Everything about this man had me wired. He was a perfect gentleman—suave, sophisticated and thoughtful even—yet there was much more than the polished veneer.»
« There was no room to let feelings develop in my line of work. Not lust, love, friendship, affection—none of it. This connection between Marco and me served as a reminder of all I was missing, of everything I could never, ever have.»
Emily knows better than to fall for a guy like Marco. When it comes to love, Emily doesn't believe in fairytale endings. But she's already in too deep. Soon, the lines between reality and role begins to blur, and they find themselves falling in love.
“I need you to know something,” Marco said in a low, raspy voice. My breath hitched, knowing that there would be no going back from whatever he was going to say in these next moments. “I see you for who you really are. I don’t look at you and see what you do to make money. I see the woman, the mother, the lover, the friend.” … “You need to know that I am in love with you. Deep, soul-shattering, no-coming-back-from it love that I cannot keep to myself any longer.”
But Marco’s got secrets. Big secrets. And by letting herself fall for Marco, Emily’s unknowingly walked into the snake pit that will cost her dearly.
Hook is beautifully written with complex characters, drama, action, even some humor, secrets, raw emotions, depth, and romance that warmed my heart. I loved the sizzling chemistry and super steamy scenes between Marco and Emily. There was one particular scene about the Tantra practice that I found incredibly intense and HOT. This book ended in a huge heart stopping cliffhanger that left me screaming and crying my eyes out. Damn!
