This whole situation is a nonsense. An affectionate and sincere marriage is not like the one presented here, friends don’t talk to each other like the way James and Kent do, and – not that I know much about this – I don’t think the everyday life of a president is like that. This story is very artificial and unrealistic.
The characters are thinking way too much about the same thing over and over again, the writing style is killing me, no humor, no steam, no development.
It’s really difficult to find a good polyamorous story, and this one is a disappointment again.

Although most of the times I am equally disgusted and interested in the results of bad political decisions, I have reached the point that I only want to know anything about the life of politicians if it is in the sphere of the fantasy.
What I mean is that I only like stories with politicians if there are part of fiction romance books. I want strong heartbreaking over the top stories. If there is some kink included, I am more that happy

5 Kneel, Mr. President Stars
Ok, I need a few days after finishing this book to digest it before I reviewed it.
First I love MM, MMF, and MFM. So this book already had that going for it.
You have 3 main characters The President James, his wife Carlene, and Kent who is head of security for The President.
Carlene is my favorite character and here is why. She sees that the Presidency is killing her husband, he is too stressed. She has tried all she can to help him but nothing is working.
Something has to happen or she fears he isn’t going to be long on this earth the stress is going to eat him alive.
Kent is not only the head of security but he is an ex-teammate from their seal days, but he is also an ex-lover. He still has feelings for James, but would never let him know it because just having James in his life is enough. He also knows James loves his wife.
Carlene loves her husband enough to know that he needs something, something she can’t give him and that something is Kent.
This story is beyond awesome, The emotions, the ties to one another. The respect they give.
Kent and Carlene also become friends and learn what James needs. It is light on the BDSM but it’s in this book and I love that Carlene is women enough to ask for help.
I want and need to read more books like this.
And the narrator wow he does an incredible job giving each character their own voice. You can’t ask for more than that. LOVED his performance.

Well this book was a very pleasant surprise! I don’t normally go for this type trope, but I went in blind on the recommendation of a trusted book blogger. I’m so glad I did!! This book was extremely well written so much that I could not put it down. Aidan Snow narrated which made it all the more compelling. The President of the United States was happily married, but was also a suppressed bi sexual. His best friend, fellow seal and former lover is now his secret service right hand man. He’s also the one that knows him in ways his wife never will, but that all changes. I don’t want to spoil, but even the most powerful man wants to relinquish control at times and just check out. I love the way this author wrote about “sub space”, that head space a submissive goes when they are with a trusted dominant.
This book had a twist I did NOT see coming, but welcomed it with open arms. I kept saying to myself now how is this going to work.
“I’m saying your husband is a submissive. Most of the time, he can live without it, but when he’s under serious amounts of pressure, he needs the domination to center him. Anchor him.” Kent held her gaze with what seemed like a lot of effort. “He doesn’t need me, Carlene. He just needs to be dominated.”

This was a really good book. I find myself interested in reading politics and kink. James Broderick is the President of the USA and the stress his killing him. The first lady his wife Carlene knows that if she doesn't do something he will have a heart attack and die leaving her with three small kids. She knows that he husband is bisexual and the man who is the head of is security is his former lover. Kent Sinclair has been in love with James for years they served in the SEAL's together they had a friends with benefits relationship and even tried to have a real relationship that didn't work out so James moved on he got married and became the President so when James asked him to head his security he said yes to be close to James even though he and Carlene hate each other. When the stress becomes so bad Carlene ask Kent to have sex with James thinking its what he needs at first James says know when Kent tells him. Kent begins to notice James is more and more stressed out he knows that Carlene is right and he needs to do something when she comes to him in the middle of the night he goes to him and they have hot heavy and rough sex and it comes to him what James is and what he needs to help him relax. Turns out Kent is a Dom and James is submissive when he tells Carlene she because his Domme with Kent's help. This was a good read the sex scenes were hot the emotions felt real James is dealing with the world a cartel taking over Columbia, Congress wanting to go to war and the press calling him soft. Carlene and Kent learn to get along for James and to give him what he needs when James ask to see Kent have sex with her they are both surprised and happy Carlene never realized how hot Kent was until she sees him in his suit with out bulletproof vest. When Kent tells James that he can't continue to have sex with him James is hurt he doesn't want to lose Kent or Carlene and after a stressful couple of days Carlene talks to Kent and tells him they don't have to stop that the three of them can work it out because she knows that James loves them both. I have read this author before this book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. If you like reading M/M/F with BDSM than i recommend that you read this book.

James is the POTUS and he’s under alot of stress. Stress that his first lady, Carlene, can’t help him relieve by herself. So she calls in backup, in the form of James’ former lover Kent, who is also his Head of Security. Oh yeah, that’s not the only head he’s going to give him.
The Good, The Bad and Everything In Between
The Good : The menage is surprisingly strong and the characters would have worked just as well without the White House background. Their relationships, as individuals and with each other, are complicated and interesting. Kent and James’ long suppressed feelings for each other are understandable, and the relationship that develops between Carlene and Kent has its own tension and believability.
Take this story out of the White House background, and I would have completely bought into the character study of a marriage in crisis and how a triad could conceivably arise from that. Ms. Gallagher made that part of the story work for me. The presidency angle was eye-catching, but unnecessary IMO.
The Bad and Everything in Between : This section is strictly devoted to the fact that I still had a hard time believing this menage was going on with the amount of security that the POTUS would be surrounded by and virtual lack of privacy for me to really buy into this possibly working. When I started this book, I was almost convinced it was going to be OTT melodrama, and that expectation came straight from the POTUS bit.
The Bottom Line
Menage times with the POTUS. While alot of it is as unbelievable as you’d think, there's also some pretty sexy times with mature leads and unexpected genuine emotional moments. I’d recommend for those into MMF romance.

This was an engaging story with more substance than the first line of the blurb might suggest. I enjoy the relationship dynamics LA Witt creates, and this was no exception. James and Kent were SEALs together, and part of that history was sex that came in three forms. Bored, drunken (sometimes sharing a woman), or intense stress relief, where Kent— a natural Dom— gave James an outlet for his sense of responsibility by topping him. They tried once to make a go of a real relationship, but clashed and almost lost their friendship, and decided to pull back to friends with benefits.
When James rotated stateside first, he met Carlene. She was everything he loved in a woman, and by the time Kent came back to the States, they were in love and getting engaged. Now married, parents of three small children, and still in love, they're in the White House. James as President, Carlene his First Lady, and Kent— he's there too, acting as James's closest Secret Service protection.
As someone coming into politics from the military, without a long apprenticeship in quid-pro-quo and back-scratching, James is refreshingly direct, and constantly under fire in his job. His insistence on a budget that actually pays for military action and care of the troops before taking action infuriates some of his opponents in congress, and his hesitation is easy to twist in the media. A dangerous international situation is unfolding, and he's stretched to his limit. As a man who has made calls that got men under his command killed, he takes his responsibilities deeply to heart.
Carlene, who loves him, is worn thin trying to support him, especially because in his worst thrashing nightmares it's not her name he calls out, but Kent's. Eventually she comes to a conclusion. Whatever it is he needs from Kent— whatever might help the desperation that haunts him at night— she wants him to have. And if that means something physical, even sex, from the man who clearly still cares about him, she's ready to ask Kent to give it to James.
Kent is shocked to be asked. Carlene has never seemed to like him. And even if she's serious, it's a question whether he can protect his own heart. He never stopped loving James, and while he's happy to put his body between James and danger day after day, getting closer to James again may light a fire that will burn them all. But he too can see how the job is wearing James thin. How James leaves important briefings and goes to throw up in the bathroom. The one thing he wants more than to protect his heart is to protect James.
But it's easy to say "Yes, I'll help him." It's something else completely to figure out what that looks like. For all three of them, deciding how this relationship mix will work, especially in the snatches of time James can spare from his job and with the threat of constant scrutiny, is a big challenge. And even though Carlene and Kent begin to develop a degree of respect for each other, there's still a huge risk someone's heart is going to end up ripped out of their chest at the end.
I liked that this began slowly. I loved that all three of them were adults, making the best choices they could, careful with each other. I enjoyed watching Carlene find her footing and confidence, and the sex was hot but didn't overwhelm the balance of the book. I really appreciated a strong female MC who held her own, and made some of the big decisions.
I also liked the fact that at the end of the book, they were settled but not balanced. I do enjoy books where all three members of a trio are equally in love, but I also like seeing books where the natural dynamic isn't as perfect. Kent and Carlene start in a very different place from Kent-James, and Carlene-James, and I appreciated the plausibility of how those dynamics changed, but didn't end up perfectly equal.
A few things came a bit easy and at the end, the threat of being outed hasn't gone away. They are, after all, having an affair in the White House - even Kent's position with the Secret Service wouldn't protect them from the risk of discovery. If the author ever wants to write that book, of how it all shakes down, I'd read it. But this ends at a satisfying place.

For the longest time I considered this one to be my second favorite MMF title...but 3rd time around must be charmed because it's now tied with Beyond Eden. (Favorite MMF series is Brothers in Arms.)
I was gonna just zone out during the political aspects because I'm so over politricks right now, but a little over an hour in James was pondering his legacy, as he was being raked over the coals by Congress and the media for not immediately jumping into war, and mentioned that he thought he was seen as a lesser president than Jr. and/or Obama. And I just...in one aspect (and considering he's a fictional leader) I have to disagree. He was desperate to keep the US military out of another endless war, concerned about the cost to the taxpayers and the potential loss of lives and harangued Congress to deliver a budget that pays for it (and covers more assistance to the service-members who are suffering PTSD) before he would sign on. (Not that all presidents need to have military experience but in this instance he was looking at it as one of the troops, not a puppet-master.) Yes, his JSOC team managed to "neutralize" the threat from the cartels via extra-judicial killing & capture, and that's a moral grey-zone. But he knows it, acknowledges it, and would rather have let those countries deal with their own uprising but was asked for help and did the best he could given the situation. (Cartels had successfully mounted a coup of sorts, captured military assets and were threatening to use them to import drugs into the US. Now, I've got my own thoughts on the pointless "War on Drugs" but armed with tanks, planes, weapons and munitions as they were - I can see the concern.)
Again, so impressed with the balance of romance and BDSM (more D/s than actual bondage or pain-play) and I absolutely love Carlene's Domme scenes. Still love how there's "couple" time and that there are no rules about who can sleep with whom; and while each of them fear losing the connections they've made with each other, and there are many instances of jealousy rearing its ugly head, they all work through it - together and on their own - to make their triad stronger. This depth of relationship development is what moved the book up in my opinion.
Finally, Aiden Snow, once again, knocked the narration out of the park.

I've been a big fan of Lauren Gallagher/L.A. Witt's work for many years and one thing I've always appreciated is her out of the box thinking and style and Kneel Mr. President may be her most out of the box work to date. Three people come together under unlikely circumstances and under great secrecy to insure that the leader of the free world is able to keep calm and lead on and man oh man does this book bring to light all kinds of interesting scenarios in my brain.
The President of the United States (POTUS), James Broderick has been devoted to his wife, Carlene, since he met her. Two kids later and with the stress of the office bearing down on him Carlene reaches out to James' secret service agent, head of security and former male lover, Kent Sinclair. Intrigued? I was and that was just the start of this fascinating and provocative story.
The dynamics of this story were all over the place which only made it more interesting. James (PODUS) trusts Kent implicitly with all aspects of his life. Carlene who has always been aware of the former relationship between James and Kent has been somewhat standoffish towards him. To be honest Kent and Carlene have tolerated each other because they both are in love with the same man. James loves his wife and enjoys having his friend and ex-lover, Kent nearby but that's as far as it's gone until his nightmares have Carlene asking Kent to help James because she'd rather have them together than James dead of a stroke.
These three embark on a strange but very compelling journey with Carlene and Kent working together to give James what he needs and during which discovering so much about themselves and each other. I was completely caught up in this story and everything that unfold along the way but most of all I was surprised by how they all seemed to eventually come together and understand the needs they each had and how to make it work for them all.
I want to say more, damn do I want to say more but I really want you to go out and buy this book and discover this talented author who always delivers such thought provoking stories even when sometimes they are uncomfortable. Kneel Mr. President is unlike anything you've ever read and it will be one that you'll never forget and I can guarantee it will be one you want to discuss with your reader friends and when you do, look me up because I am all for talking about this one.
Reviewer's note: When I finished this book, I really wanted and epilogue so when I met the author at RT I told her that and she let me in on the fact that there is a book two coming with these characters. Kneel Mr. President ends in what I call a HFN ending, and I was quite satisfied with that but I did want to see what happens down the line so getting a second book is way better than an epilogue and I can't wait!

This was quite good but essentially I can't imagine how this triade can work out in the long term I am really sorry that the relationship between Carlene and Kent is not more
I was really sorry, that there was not more development between Carlene and Kent ... there was potential there but somehow it seemed as if the Author wanted to go in that direction and chickened out at the last moment
another thing which was a bit annoying was, that we got a nice dvelopment but the ending was rushed.

I was really sorry, that there was not more development between Carlene and Kent ... there was potential there but somehow it seemed as if the Author wanted to go in that direction and chickened out at the last moment
another thing which was a bit annoying was, that we got a nice dvelopment but the ending was rushed.

My Review:
If there was ever a perfect menage/bdsm book, this may just be it. I loved this story. This book is truly about James, ex-navy SEAL and now the President of the US. He's been married to Carlene for 10 years and has been the President for 2 of those and she can see that he's buckling under the stress and strain.
It's been well-documented how much being the President ages the man in office, so I loved how Lauren Gallagher used that to set the premise of this story. In the book, Kent and James have been friends forever. They were in the SEALs together and although they were sometimes lovers, they were always friends. Both men are bi-sexual, but totally have NOT been sexually involved with one another since James married Carlene. But Carlene knows their history, sees her husband's over the top stress, and knows he calls out for Kent in the night. She knows he needs something different or else he's not going to survive the next two years. She approaches Kent, who's the head of James' personal secret service detail with a desperate idea...one that may end up being devastating for all three of them. Because although they aren't together, it's no doubt that James and Kent still have very deep, very real feelings for one another.
This story was SO WELL DONE! BDSM subs like to hand the control over to someone else and it's brilliant that Lauren Gallagher saw that as a perfect means for the President to let off steam. But beyond the whole 'most powerful man in the world' aspect in this story, there are also three very real people who are terrified of being hurt. This relationship is not the norm and all them are very well aware that it's probably going to end badly. But they are all willing to do what it takes for James to be able to cope without falling over dead from a heart attack. I loved how the author wrote their doubts and problems. It felt very real and true.
The set-up was brilliant, the characters were incredibly complex and the story was gorgeous. There were moments that made me smile (safe word: Republican....LOL) and so many moments when I just wanted to cry for the trauma they are all going through. But in the end it was a gorgeously romantic story filled with super-sexy moments. I love, love, LOVED it and HIGHLY recommend it. Two super-sexy SEALs and a First Lady doing whatever it takes to make her husband a better man...there was so much to love.

With a title like this I was definitely expecting a lot of enthusiastically-written kinky sex, but this book surprised me by being more than that. Instead, it starts right as a tense situation comes to a head--the First Lady going to her husband's friend, bodyguard, and ex-fuckbuddy to say that she thinks he's gonna die of Presidential stress unless the friend comes back to the First Bedroom--and follows the three protagonists through all the birthing pains of a realistic triad relationship. (Spoiler: if you're looking for a happy poly ending, come on in.)
The erotic scenes were really hot, and because there were two people and more than one kind of body parts, plus the exploration of BDSM, the author was able to explore a wider variety of acts than I'm used to and that was cool because it meant the sex scenes never got repetitive. I also liked getting to see a woman grow into and explore the Domme side she never knew she had.
Here we have some bi men whose identities are pretty firmly established by the book, men who are not deceitful or dissolute or untrustworthy or flaky or any of the other bi stereotypes. Two of them!
There are also scenes where when characters are in emotional pain they are unable to climax, which I wouldn't have noticed especially except for a friend was recently bemoaning the lack of this sort of trouble in romance literature. So, kudos to the author for that.
Anyway, it seems like the kind of story that could just have been written on only a pornographic level but was emphatically not: people's emotions are important, people's shared histories are important, and people's nonsexual lives are important. This is a true poly romance novel, and a novel that treats its female MC as deserving of lots and lots of pleasure.
I leave you with: this author had someone use a feathered cat toy on a President of the United States during bisexual kinky threesome sex. Applause, my good madam.

Given my anxiety regarding the upcoming US elections, perhaps reading this book wasn't the best of ideas. #Sadtrombone
But, I've been in a bit of an M/M/F kick this weekend so I spent this afternoon reading all about POTUS, FLOTUS, and the Secret Service dude who helped repair their marriage. This was a longish novel, but my overall feeling about it is "mehhhhhhhhh."
What I liked
+ Some aspects of the triad
James and Kent had a lot of chemistry. Not surprising since they'd been fuckbuddies-on-the-way-to-something-more before the novel even began. That Kent chose to stick around AFTER James had married Carlene said a lot about how he felt about James. I did side-eye the one instance where Kent tried to get busy with some dude and simply couldn't because the dude wasn't James. (FTR, this wouldn't be the last time I was going to eyeroll some of the characters' reactions and behaviors.)
Thing was, James and Kent worked fantastically together. I'm legit amazed that no one ever commented on that.
Meanwhile, James and Carlene were sweet in their own way. No longer newlyweds, their connection remained strong. I liked that Carlene took a proactive approach to helping James any way she could and, as a result, saving her marriage as well.
+ Older protags
Another reason why I kept reading (even when I wanted to DNF it) was that all three protags are way past their 20s.
What I didn't like
- Too insular and so-so character development
For three people who are surrounded by all levels of presidential staff, James, Kent, and Carlene seemed to hang out only with themselves.
I mean, not even the Vice-President interacts with them. To me, it was odd since one can only imagine the amount of networking anyone would have to do to run and be elected to the US Presidency. The unintentional character isolation really bothered me. If anything because I'd have loved to have seen any or all three of the protags hang out with friends and family.
Another thing was that we don't learn much about who Carlene is aside from being FLOTUS and a mother. Did she go to college? What were her dreams as a teenager? Where were her friends? Did she have ANY friends?
Finally, there was a severe lack of female characters in this novel. IIRC, the only woman who has actual dialogue is Carlene. #Muppetface

Somewhere in the beginning of the story, Kent makes a casual reference to being somewhat sexually attracted to women from time to time. The clunky obviousness that something would eventually happen between him and Carlene prompted a tired sigh from this reviewer.
I can understand that "teaming up" to help James relax would thaw out the wariness Carlene and Kent felt for each other. However, the reasons behind the two of them getting together rang incredibly false (not to mention off-putting.)
What I felt neutral about

OTOH, I'm glad that there was a larger story to give all three protags a break from boinking all the time. OTOH, said story wasn't as interesting as the author hoped it'd be.
TBH, I agree with many other reviewers who saw the whole POTUS angle as totally unnecessary. For one thing, it stretched my ability to suspend disbelief how easy James, Kent, and Carlene were able to find time to play and have sex together or apart.

Most of it was fine. There was pretty much every combination of M/M/F with v. mild D/s.
I must mention that I sped read through the Carlene/Kent scenes because those two had as much chemistry in bed as a box of wet matches.
TL;DR: Not a terrible read, but a disappointing one. Even though I dug the fact that the protags were older and the sex scenes were OK, I had a hard time believing some aspects of the side plot.

This is not for the faint of heart, but for those voracious readers that have felt that they have read everything, well you haven't seen POTUS in a more than one compromising position. There are some jaw dropping WTF moments, 
but there is also love and understanding too. The writing is strong and the characters believable. So if you're searching for something different I would definitely give this one a try.

I listened ONLY for the narrator, but even he couldn’t save this one for me. This book was too unrealistic. I can’t list all of the things that had me rolling my eyes in disbelief.

It's stressful being president of the United States. It ages a person, drastically, everyone wants a piece of you and dealing with congress is a pain in the ass. Even for an ex-SEAL, being president can apparently be overwhelming. James Broderick is an ex-SEAL that had not intended to run for president. At least not as his first political adventure. He had planned to run for Senate. However, when the Republican Party put a Bush clone on the ticket, he was tapped to run on the Democratic ticket. Two years into his first term, though, James is falling apart. And apparently, he talks in his sleep and calls out for his best friend (and ex-lover) Kent.
Kent Sinclair has been James' best friend for more than 20 years. They served in the Navy together, they were on the same SEAL team, and they're both bisexual. So, for a very long time they had a friends with benefits thing going on and that served them pretty well. Their attempt at an actual relationship didn't go so well, unfortunately, but at least it didn't cost them their friendship. Now, Kent is head of the president's Secret Service detail. Kent is still in love with James, but would never try to come between James and Carlene. A home-wrecker, he is not. So he keeps his distance, even though it costs him.
James's wife, Carlene, knows he is bisexual and she knows about his past with Kent. And she and Kent can barely stand each other. For her, Kent is the one James calls out for when he's dreaming and it's only gotten more frequent. She sees the way that James and Kent look at each other and between that and the sleep talking, Carlene is feeling a bit jealous and insecure. And Kent has always been and is still, in love with James. Seeing James with Carlene is a painful reminder of what he lost. So, while they are civil to one another, mostly, Kent and Carlene are not exactly friends.
But, since James calls out for Kent and nothing she can do seems to help James at all, Carlene approaches Kent for help. Everyone is quite reluctant at first, and rightfully so. Bringing in a third for a bit of fun is one thing, but James and Kent have feelings for each other and if something goes wrong, all of them could end up hurt (and I can see the scandal now!).
Though I quite enjoyed the read, I didn't really find the story all that realistic. I would expect an ex-SEAL to be more unflappable. Of course, that is the side we usually see. We don't see the stress these men face, so maybe I'm off base, here, but it didn't feel true. James was clearly falling apart under the pressure. And the ménage relationship? I didn't really buy it, either, but it was a hot fantasy and I enjoyed it.
My biggest complaint about the ménage relationship they all developed was that, when talking about pursuing it, first, in the hope of helping James de-stress, and later because it made James happy, the best anyone could come up with was that they couldn't think of anything else to try. Not any kind of counselling or help to deal with stress was even brought up. No, instead, Carlene almost literally pushed Kent into bed with her husband. This is not the same as James and Carlene talking about a hot, kinky fantasy and asking Kent to join in and then things get serious. But again, though I didn't buy it - at all - I was able to suspend my disbelief enough to enjoy the story and James and Kent (Carlene, I was kind of meh toward the whole time).

Reread 2018: i think i might have liked it more the first time i read it, but i'm sure that's also because back then it was the first ever book about polyamory i read and i really needed to see some rep. i also think that, for me, it worked better in ebook than audio. but i'm glad i got to revisit it. some extra thoughts:
there's this part where carlene is talking about how weird two guys being together is and then afterwards being on board especially because she thinks it's hot and i'm not too fond of either of those points of view.
apart from that i still think it's great that this book has two bi men as main characters. also how there was struggling with the idea of loving and your partner and letting them openly love other people too.
it's still the only book i've read talking so openly also about the jealousy and undeserved resentment and the fact that it takes some time for some people to get used to things. and i'm still sometimes jealous, so i'm still grateful. (though i do think here it was a pretty perfect situation in the end in which it seemed like nothing would ever be a problem anymore and i don't know how realistic that is.)
cw: it has a lot of sex and dom/sub scenes, memories about getting drunk, mention of ptsd, both mc's used to be seals, mention of a possible future war in south america

I read this book somewhere in September, loved it and didn't review it. Possibly because I suck at writing timely reviews. Maybe also because I was struggling with my words, and/or because I was afraid or embarrassed.
But this book is important for me especially because it's the first book about polyamory I read. I'm still so eternally grateful and think about it regularly. I plan to read Chameleon Moon before the end of the year and then that'll be two books that include it!
There are two bi men in this book and they're great! I was impressed with the bi rep and the subversion of the cheating/unfaithful/greedy trope, especially because it needed to be treated with care due to the addition of polyamory. There's exploration of BDSM, which I really enjoyed and the sex scenes were never repetitive.
I loved how carefully polyamory was introduced to the characters, how it was handled with care. How Carlene struggled, how she and Kent bonded, how even the president worried he couldn't love both because he wouldn't be able to give them what they deserved (spoiler alert: he can).
The book has a happy polyamorous ending, even if the word isn't used (if I remember correctly - maybe in the next polya book I read it will be). To me, it felt like romantically speaking, the relationship stayed a vee, whilst sexually it turned into a triad. Obviously, this is just my interpretation, but I liked the difference and how, romantically, there wasn't a bond between everyone (yet?). Of course, there was love between all characters, a lot of respect and appreciation, and I'm grateful for how that was included no matter the other components of the individual relationships or interactions.
I loved the characters growing with this idea, it taking shape, coming to terms with it. The fact that nothing was established yet made it a bit angsty at first. Fear not, though, it has a happy ending and seeing everyone get there is wonderful and recognisable. I saw my own fear, worries, happiness and growth reflected, and that was incredible.

This was becoming a 5-star book but halfway through my fears stuck - I could not see how this setup could be unravelled without someone getting hurt. My initial impression of Carlene - that she hated the thought of her husband sleeping with Kent - was correct. And I had been hoping the author would dismiss that anxiety. This is where the incredulity and unbelievability comes in - the author had Carlene pushing and insisting, pushing and coercing Kent to fuck her husband even though both men were against the idea and with Carlene tortured by the thought that she was not what her husband needed, that she could not help her husband, that it took another man to make love to her husband (they don't put it so romantically, they used "fuck" but it was far, far more than that).
I couldn't shake off Carlene's agony because the author hung on to it so long! The poor woman. How could there ever be a happy ending for this trio? For me, there wasn't even though Ms Gallagher let them have an HFN. It wasn't believable. Could it have been? Oh yes. At 11 hours 14 minutes, there was plenty of time to develop the plot in another direction so that James and Kent could have their HEA. I strongly feel that it was a big mistake to start the book off with a tormented wife who couldn't stand the thought of James and Kent together.

Here’s what you need to know: this is about a bisexual president, his First Lady who wants to learn to be a Domme, and the head of POTUS security. Both men are ex-SEAL. Through the course of the story, they ease toward a polyamorous relationship.
The three have super interesting dynamics. James, the president, and Kent have been best friends for years. They were also on-again, off-again lovers while they served in the military. They tried dating but it didn’t go well and the next time Kent saw James, he was already seriously involved with Carlene. So Kent tried to put his feelings to the side. But Kent and Carlene have always been wary of one another, until Carlene is at her wit’s end. She’s very worried about James’s stress level and she’s sure only Kent can help him. Things escalate from there and the introduction of kink makes it all the more intriguing for everyone. Kent knows he’s a Dom but James does not realize he’s a submissive, nor does Carlene know she’s a Domme. As each character becomes more comfortable with this expression of their sexuality, the bonds between them grow stronger. And yet, there are high stakes, not only for them but for James’s presidency.
Some suspension of disbelief is required. I find it hard to believe that Kent would be able to serve as the head of security, given his relationship with James. It seems like a huge conflict of interest, especially with the way they’ve structured things. I also worried the news about the three of them would get out and I’m hard-pressed to think something like this could stay completely secret—luckily for the sake of this story, no one ever learns about them.
The jealousy and second guessing was understandable at first but got a little tiresome toward the end. I wanted there to be much more communication about their dynamics and concerns. But at the same time, I get that they were all figuring it out as they go. I really appreciated that the characters are in their early 40s and the reality of seasoned romance. I also loved watching Carlene come into her own as a Domme. Although I do wonder if she fetishized the men at times. She also had a lot of misunderstanding about what bisexuality means and I found it odd that she’d never asked her husband more questions about his bisexuality, given the stereotypes she still believed.
All in all, a fun, steamy read. If you want a less angsty version of Sierra Simone’s glorious New Camelot series, this should fit the bill.

Totally not what I expected... in a very good way. ;)
I get book recommendations all the time. Some I take and some I ignore, but there are a few reader's recommendations that I always pay attention to. Author Christi Snow is at the top of that list of people. I follow what she reads most of the time anyway, but when she makes a point of bringing a book to my attention I ask no questions and search out the book. I have to admit though, this is the first time I came close to hesitating. Part of it was the menage and part of it was the title. I mean really, how can a book titled Kneel, Mr. President have a story line that wasn't totally centered around sex? It didn't take long for Lauren Gallagher and these 3 characters to win me over.
I'm really not sure which of these characters I loved more. James was a devoted husband, loyal friend, responsible and caring leader and almost literally had the weight of the world on his shoulders with people standing in line waiting for him to fail. Carlene loved her husband enough to put his needs ahead of hers. She would rather lose him to someone else if that meant saving his life. Then there was Kent. I think out of all of them, he tore at my heart the most. He knew that he had the most to lose. Whatever happened between them, regardless of the attraction, there was no way that James would give up his family. He knew it, he accepted it, but he put his feelings aside to help his best friend.
So yes, there was a lot more than I expected to Kneel, Mr. President. Oh, there was plenty of smexiness to go around, but the story was so much more than that. I loved getting to know and respect these characters and watch the relationships shift as the story progressed. Their relationship was definitely not conventional and it put them all in a extremely precarious situation, but their love for each other and their family was what mattered most.
On a side note, I have to admit that it would be a great thing if there really was a James Broderick out there. He would definitely get my vote. ;)

It's been a while since I've read a book with a woman being one of the MCs.
Lucky me, I've chosen a Lauren Gallagher book ;) Why? Because she is one of the few authors who actually write female characters I can relate to. Not only during the sex scenes but also as a person. I liked Charlene, I liked her determination to help her husband, no matter what. I loved when she faked an orgasam. Her brain was running in several directions, she couldn't switch of the worries and it would have caused more stress to say: "Sorry, no go today" to an already stressed out guy instead of just faking it. Well done. That's what I call a little white lie.
So - I do love when actions are plausible to me. And makeing me believe the whole triangle, that eveloped out of the Charlene's worries for her husband, was so well done, I enjoyed reading about all three. I felt like I understood everybodies motivations. I can also see Charlene and Kent forming a bond over time, they had already started when the book ended. And James...he was just delicious to watch.
Do I have any complaints about the book? Not really. It's probably only that I would have loved a bit more "non-sex"-scenes (I can't believe I'm writing this).
I don't know if it was only my copy but sometimes passages were so close together, without a blank line, that it took me a few sentences to realize that we had changed the scenery or jumped in time.

🎧 Audio Review 🎧
Wow I didn't expect to love this audiobook as much as I did!! This books has MF, MM, MMF and MFM scenes and wow they were HOT, that is not was I was surprised about though, I was expecting that! What I didn't expect was how great the story is too! It's a love story by far, with a wife who loves her husband enough to try anything to help him deal with the stress of being the president and PTSD (or so she thought). It's also a love story about two men who have trusted and loved each other for years! The characters were great, non of them petty, vindictive or childish and I loved that!! They all talk to each other openly when they have something on their minds... wow there's a concept ;) I wish more romance books had that and less "misunderstandings"! I will be looking for more audiobooks by this author and by the narrator!
The narration was PERFECT! Aiden Snow did a great job for all 3 characters! he has the perfect growly voice for these alpha males!

I have opinions.
Some things were good—I liked Carlene, her idea of dominance, how she explained to James that she does not own him, and some of the scenes between her and Kent, specifically—but the bad things were bad.
First of all, there's no way Kent is an experienced Dom. He does not know what subspace is, he has "read things" but does not negotiate a scene nor asks his sub to disclose any limit, he literally tells two people who know nothing about BDSM to get into BDSM without even explaining the basics.
I love stories where newbies get into BDSM. But it makes no sense to have a character who should know what he's doing but in reality he does not and is also dumb as fuck.
Anyway. Other than the """"BDSM"""" making zero sense, so many of the dialogues are just repetitive. You read a line and you think, "Did I not read this already?" And then you go back one (1) page and you realize they're just repeating things. Even word by word at times.
And they never talk! What??? They only realize that maybe they need to talk all three together at page 253. Of 264. Like.
IDK, at some point I was just over it.

So here's the thing: You have to make sure you pay attention to the character descriptions or just go in ahead of time imagining them as other people; for instance, I substituted mental pictures of Fitz, Jake and Olivia (a triad I would totally read fanfiction for, BTW) from Scandal and that helped a lot to keep me from veering off into weird 45 territory (because...ewww *gag*). Here, lemme go ahead and plant the seed in case you're interested in reading/listening to this as well:

I've read this book before, probably when it first came out since I know it's been a while and it originally had that terrible first edition cover. That said, I don't know if what we get with the audio is an updated/expanded/edited edition or what...but I don't remember loving it then as much as I do this time around. I don't recall being so invested in how they worked things out. I have no recollection of the angst & stress & eventual release in each of those scenes. I don't even remember that ending!
Holy cow, so good. SO SO GOOD. Why can't more MMF be like this? ESPECIALLY since the story/relationship pivots on one of the MEN and is not all about two guys trying to get the same girl. I LOVED that there was a prior relationship between Kent & James; I loved that Carlene was woman enough to realize that she needed help giving James what he needed and was willing to step back and let them reconnect. I LOVED that originally there was some animosity between Carlene and Kent (which made them working together just that much more interesting). I ADORED that they all had time - as separate couples - to work on their relationships and didn't have arbitrary rules of who could be with whom/when. I think I fell in love with the book when the author didn't chocolate coat the jealousy and nerves that come with knowing the person you love might love someone else as much as they love you.
Gah! I just...if you like MMF and can handle a little bit of politics (or at least the drama and minutiae that can accompany politics) then just take my word for it and read/listen to this.
(I'll admit I was worried that there was no female narrator to voice Carlene, but Aiden Snow did a really, really good job distinguishing the characters without working too hard to make them sound different. Definitely going to look for him in future audio book narrations.)

I loved this audiobook. Lauren Gallagher gave me the MMF book I’ve been dreaming about. Long enough to give each individual their own back story, each pairing their own significant relationship, create a cohesive triad, and still leave room for plenty of steamy scenes. There are MF, MM, & MMF scenes.
This is best enjoyed when the exploration of the relationship means as much (if not more) to the listener than the sex or how kinky it can get. I’ll admit that there are parts about the set-up in regards to how the White House or Secret Service operates that seem highly unlikely, but I enjoyed the totality so much that it wouldn’t keep me from listening to it over and over again.
One of the unique aspects of this is that Carlene and Kent don’t actually get along at the beginning and Gallagher spends a lot of time bringing them to a begrudging understanding and then to an affinity of their own. James struggles to balance his own needs with theirs while ultimately understanding and embracing his desire to submit.
Aiden Snow is terrific here. He does a great job of differentiating all the voices – especially Kent & James, which is really nice when they each have so much dialogue. Listening to him for 11 hours is no chore at all.

The story was overall 3 stars for me, the narration was a stellar 5 stars, so going for 4 overall for the audiobook version.
I think if I had read this book, vice listening to it, I might have stopped. It was very long with a lot of internal musing that would have been difficult for me to get through reading. The main storyline was done very, very well, but sometimes there was a long wait to get back to it while the backstory of the political crisis the President was dealing with was discussed, and that part was a little boring for me.
The part that did work for me was the relationship dynamic and development between Carlene, James and Kent! Holy smokes was that so well done. I would not consider this book kinky, I would consider it a very well done realization of both dominance and submission, you really truly can see how James needs it and how Carlene embraces it as they explore more and more of these elements. It also was a story about 2 separate pairs becoming a triad. James and Kent have a history of deep love and friendship. James and Carlene have a 10 year marriage of love and trust. Carlene and Kent are just really getting to know each other. There are MF, MM, MMF and MFM scenes in this book and they were all done well.

If it wasn't for the television show Scandal. I wouldn't have been able to comprehend the complexity of this story. Yes, it is different from the monarchy. Sure military has several faces. Roman military back in the day. That's all I am saying. If Marilyn Monroe can have her president and his brother. What's to say this too couldn't happen.

My first book narrated by Aiden Snow and I want MORE!
I appreciated the time the author took to get all the characters ready for what was about to come. The relationships felt real/messy. And when it finally got steamy it didn’t stop. No instanta love. But a very satisfying HEA.
