Covertly supported by the Soviets, a Cuban conspiracy to incite racial unrest in the United States involves Robert Hockney in the violent Miami underworld of drug smugglers, right-wing fanatics, and informers and takes the country to the brink of disaster.
Very good book with tons of parallels to current times. In 2025, hindsight is 2020. The Reagan administration should have truly put the screws to these un-American communists and socialist.
As a writer, I was taught to develop really great characters, throw them together and see what happens. This book is just the opposite. The story was ripped out of the headlines of the day and characters were wedged in to fit the story. Consequently, the characters are pretty flat and one-dimensional. The text flip-flops between passages that are very well written and suspenseful and passages that make my teeth ache. Spoiler alert here: the most interesting passage of this book is the plot to blow up the World Trade Center isCenter, as this was years before 9/11.
