Bamfing to the aid of a friend in need, Nightcrawler finds himself in over his head when he runs afoul of the Shadow King! And things go from bad to worse when the X-Men fall under the Shadow King's sway.
Chris Claremont is a writer of American comic books, best known for his 16-year (1975-1991) stint on Uncanny X-Men, during which the series became one of the comic book industry's most successful properties.
Claremont has written many stories for other publishers including the Star Trek Debt of Honor graphic novel, his creator-owned Sovereign Seven for DC Comics and Aliens vs Predator for Dark Horse Comics. He also wrote a few issues of the series WildC.A.T.s (volume 1, issues #10-13) at Image Comics, which introduced his creator-owned character, Huntsman.
Outside of comics, Claremont co-wrote the Chronicles of the Shadow War trilogy, Shadow Moon (1995), Shadow Dawn (1996), and Shadow Star (1999), with George Lucas. This trilogy continues the story of Elora Danan from the movie Willow. In the 1980s, he also wrote a science fiction trilogy about female starship pilot Nicole Shea, consisting of First Flight (1987), Grounded! (1991), and Sundowner (1994). Claremont was also a contributor to the Wild Cards anthology series.
And the idiocy and wolverine kissing continues: We have a flashback where he acts as Nightcrawler's teacher because somehow Kurt cannot take on the danger room copies of his teammates… even though based on this team roster Kurt had been an X-Men for some time and so should be familiar with them already. So this is just another "Wolverine is soooo great" garbage. Stuff like this made me quit the X-Men. Especially Kurt's alleged "Roma" background could have been used for so many good stories. You see while the stereotypical depictions of Roma, when not shown as beggars, are like this:
Historic photographies by German Sinti themselves rather tended to look this:
But back to this, I really wish that they would stop the Wolverine ass-licking, and come on, the Shadow King (whose muscles look is really dumb) once possessed the entire world and could easily control them all, so why do things happen "too fast" for him now? The way he is written here, it would have been a better idea to have him be some new or at least different character. Some telepath or so that is less powerful or experienced. And the Shadow King didn't try to takeover the Bamfs right away why exactly? And since when do telepaths need to see through the eyes of someone else? Kurt cannot be possessed, because of reasons, but he is no shielded from telepathy. And before I stop, two things: 1) It is spelled "Kätzchen" and not "Katzchen", get that into your head writers! 2) Stop drooling about how Wolverine makes them better! It only draws attention to how generic and run of the mill this story here is. In fact, why are these stories so far in a miniseries? They could have been in a regular X-Men title so far. In the end, on the one hand, Nightcrawler was shown as competent with his divide and conquer tactic to fight the possessed X-men but it should also be clear that the Shadow King should be far more powerful.
