Love in London #3

Canada Square

Rate this book
Secrets have a way of coming out…

Amy Cartwright isn't sure who she's supposed to be anymore. Her family thinks she's flighty, her ex believes she's a walkover (the bastard) and her friends think she's plain crazy. But there's a different side to her that nobody sees, nobody but the cool, sexy Scotsman who just happens to be her boss.

Callum Ferguson isn't looking for excitement; he's had that and it almost ruined him. He likes things calm and predictable – everything that his new PA turns out not to be. But from the moment she walks through his office door it's as though the light has come back into his life, and he can't get her out of his mind.

Fighting against the inevitable, they both try to ignore the attraction, but the flame of desire is too bright. They're soon drawn into a steamy love affair that they have to hide from everybody, knowing the revelation could cost them everything they’ve worked so hard for, including each other.

Author note: Canada Square is the third in the Love in London series, but each book can be read as a standalone book.

I have been a huge fan of Carrie’s Love in London series, since its beginnings, for me each book has been better than its predecessor, and I have loved them all, but I have to be honest and say that Canada Square stands as my absolute favorite (so far).

If you are looking for your romance to have a little of the forbidden aspect to it then Canada Square will also be right up your street. Callum and Amy’s story isn’t a new one in that sense, boss falls for intern, or vice-versa but I think it’s the added side plots and the actual couple themselves that make their story such a treat too read.

Get a degree, get a job and get the hell out of here.

Amy Cartwright has ambition, fed up of her dead end job and going nowhere life, she takes the step to re-educate herself, and as part of getting her degree she is sent to Richards and Morgan, a Management Consultancy company to gain experience in the workplace and assist with project management in line with her course requirements. The first day on the job doesn’t quite go as planned when she inadvertently shouts at her new boss in the lift on the way up to her induction.

Callum Ferguson has spent so long living to work, that the introduction of sassy, snarky Amy as his stand-in P.A. causes more than a few sparks to fly, initially in irritation, but they quickly morph into attraction. There is just one big problem… the Non-Fraternization policy that all employees sign upon joining the company. But Amy is like a breath of fresh air through his otherwise stale life and it isn't long before they are spending time together outside of the office.

He’s both annoying and horribly attractive.

This is the second time I have read this book, that in itself shows just how good I think it is, because to be frank I just don’t have time nowadays to go back and re-read things, but when I initially Beta-read it for the author, I knew then that this story was something very, very special, and my happy glow did not dim one iota on my second reading. There is just something special about this story, Carrie has managed to interject the right levels of drama, twists, mean-girls, silly-boys, sexy-times and snarky asides and two really likeable and relatable characters that just keep you turning the pages.

"For the first time in years I feel as if I can actually fucking breathe again."

Even if you haven’t read the previous two books in the series I urge you to pick Canada Square up, it can absolutely be read as a standalone.

Another unmitigated winner for me, and I cannot wait to see what Carrie has in store for her readers next!

ARC generously provided by the Author, and it was, as it always is my absolute pleasure to provide the above honest review.

Carrie Elks isn't a new author to me and, having read the previous books in her Love in London series, I did go into this with fairly high expectations. Overall, Canada Square is a great read, balancing romance, passion and a little bit of angst and drama with two wonderful characters whose journey pulls you in from the start.

description

From the minute Amy walks into Callum Ferguson's office, his attention is captured, as his hers, despite the fact that her new boss is surly, demanding and tests her patience. But as one of the new interns in a company with a no fraternisation policy in place and her project placement counting towards a hefty chunk of her degree, she can't risk falling for her boss. And naturally working closely together leads to the very opposite.

description

I loved Amy; young and sweet with a quiet strength and temerity and she has a realistic outlook on life. And Callum; every time the man opened his mouth I fell a little bit more for him. Older, successful and gorgeous with a presence about him when he enters a room, peel back his layers and you discover a man who is thoughtful, protective, gentle and who opens up his heart despite his own fears.

description

Together this couple travel a path which has depth and is filled with desire and secondary characters who add real value to the story. Carrie Elks has an engaging writing style which draws you into the lives of her characters: if she writes it, I'll most certainly read it and I'm already excited to discover what Andie's story holds in store.

4.5 stars

I’m honestly not sure to feel about this book...

Deep sigh, like my title says I’m not really sure what to feel here...
I’ll explain. But in doing soo if I give spoilers please forgive me,just trying to show what I’m rather confused and conflicted here....

Ok,foe the first 40% or soo of the book it was definitely a bit of a slog thru to keep going at times ....
When we start ,well that confused me the first time w/this, I mean when you get a “boss romance”, you expect some conflict and tension which you kinda get here but its almost cliched, wealthy boss coming from money and working girl and you definitely get that here .....
But,but thou they start off like that in a way the doesn’t entirely make sense, because Amy fresh her latest break up with her boyfriend comes into the office almost spoiling for a fight, and I got the feeling almost anything Callum said or did would have started something w/her,but that’s not my point ,sorry,...
Ok,what got to me was how besides the lil conflict Amy just seemed to want and desire Callum but these two seemed to spend very little time together most of her time was with her family and co workers setting up various plot lines with them .... the big family “secret” while sad seemed over inflated to create extra drama and the part with her co workers was pure filler to me....
One co worker named Charlie seemed to work hard to become a bigger part of the story but he always just seemed there to help bump the plot along in a certain direction at times, like catching him and Amy w/drugs pushed Callum in a direction that had him opening up,about his past....

Any way, the 40% of the book was more about Amy’s life in general and really life on romance or Callum, which was boring and frustrating to me,then then just when these two FINALLY start to become a couple and are saying “I love you “ to each other sadly we’re getting to the even more cliched trope of gotta break up to make up.....
Ggggggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....
Now I might not have minded that part quite soo much if it had ended differently ...
Ok,dating between them is a huge No-No apparently and the
“Mean-girl” intern we have at the beginning of the book seemed to have been created for just this moment , to see the MD’s together at work and tattle...
Which didn’t make sense entirely since she was barely in the book at all, anyway when Callum finds out about this his way of dealing with it is a unilateral decision in the vain of being “cruel to be kind” .... a decision where hearts are broken and all contact is ceased or blocked with out one word of warning or discussion.....
My now I’d gotten well and truly sucked in and I was completely shocked and angry 😡 right along with Amy...
And when she writes him a email calling him a coward on the way he handled things, also telling him she didn’t expect a reply ,dear lord I was soo there with her....
Been there, felt that pain..... maybe he thought his way was the best or only way but don’t take a girl off to your hometown let her meet your mum and tell her you love her and then turn around and pull this w/out a single word before ,during or after...
I mean how the F are they gonna know about personal calls out side the office ? He had a “trusted” friend tell her what little she knew, surely that friend could loaned her his phone or something .... geez it’s not like they were secret agents hiding from the government or something ....
But no contact for over two months except for when he answered her email with one word....
Goodbye ...
We both cried at that, Amy and I and I soo understood a goodbye like that... one forced on you w/no explanations,F those hurt.....
Sooo I think you can understand why I was a tad miffed when Callum pops back up near the end of the last chapter of the book just as Amy has graduated to let her know he wants hack... i wasn’t upset because he returned, I got upset because when you break someone’s heart and trust like that no matter how much you missed them and want them back you can’t just say ok,sure I’ll take you back and we can move away together ..... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa No,no no! Trust-has to be rebuilt , especially when you pulled hat Callum, just because things worked out doesn’t mean the ends were justified ....
Then we shoot straight there to the epilogue where they come back to London and he proposes....
Which could only feel like a HFN because the reconciliation was too fast to feel real after all the pain was caused....
Decent book, but just as the MC’s are really becoming /feeling like a couple their ripped painfully apart and the ending is too quick to feel right...

Life, love, & changes

Amy decided after 3 years being out of school she finally decided to take the advice of several math teacher she had through school that she needs to continue her education & go for a college education. Not everyone understands her decision or supports it especially her boyfriend Luke, they have been on and off for 8 years; he starts and she forgives him. It's not right but easy because they have so much history & friends and she finds out who her friends really are when she finally gives like the boot. Amy has started an internship at a company that interns only come from the rich Ivey league schools, Amy feels like she the outsider back in high school. The company made a mistake and don't have a project for Amy & without it she can't get her degree, so she is given a temporary position as Callum ferguson and she quickly realizes they exchanged words on the lift. They snark back & forth & Callum wants to have reassigned until he realizes how bright she is and starts including her in project meetings. She is made project manager & is transferred to work under Jonathan who is a friend of Callum. Amy & Callum start off with a strong attraction that morphs into more and there obsticals/consequences along the way. Also Amy is confronted with a family secrete. I don't want to spoil the story but I found myself frustrated with Amy for really not understanding why callum did what he did, but then I thought it showed her age and lack of maturity. So you will have to read and find out how things come together. Carrie Elle knows how to touch your heart & soul. I loved all the characters and stories in this series but Canada Square is my favorite.

Another 'couldn't put it down' 5 stars for this third in the Love in London series from Carrie Elks.
Although each of the stories in this boxset brings in characters we've seen in the previous books, each of these can be read as standalone.
Amy's story was very different to what I'd imagined it would be - Amy is a contradiction ...seemingly unsure of herself and walked over by her on-off boyfriend, she then shows another side to herself; confident, sassy and sexy !
Bring in brooding sexy Scot, Callum and off the charts chemistry and you have a match made in heaven.. . except here's the twist... he's her boss and Amy signed a contract that includes a non-fraternisation policy!
So follows illicit glances and secret desires, but will they be able to keep their blossoming romance hidden?
With a smattering on angst and a few twists thrown in, Carrie Elks delivers another gripping, edge-of-your-seat drama which I loved... and even better after bemoaning the fact that I didn't want the box set to end there's a free novella thrown in for good measure- which I can't wait to get started on !

Good!

This was a fabulous story. I loved Amy and Callum. I loved their story and how their past heartbreak collided with their present. They've both faced a lot in their past and deserve a HEA. If you like a straightforward contemporary romance then this is a book for you.

I got an ARC from the writer in exchange for a honest review.

I got the chance to read this book from Carrie Elks, a new writer to me. I haven’t read the first two books in the ‘London of love’ series but it wasn’t a problem for reading ‘Canada square’, that’s the third book of this series. But after reading this book and enjoying it so much, I will definitely read the first two books of this series too.

Being the youngest of three children isn’t easy , just ask Amy Cartwright. Her older brother Alex (whose story is told in ‘Broken chords’) and her older sister Andie will always see her as the baby of the family. And the fact that Amy’s boyfriend has been walking all over her for the last eight years didn’t help her family thinking any better of her! But this time things will change! Amy has fought too hard to go to college, to have a degree to throw it all away for a cheating boyfriend who never supported her decision to go studying again. So Amy decides to end her relationship with her boyfriend and to show everyone that she can make it on her own. But to do that she has to get her degree first. The only thing left to do is this intern job and Amy will finally have her degree. Her big chance to make a new start in life.

What Amy didn’t count on was her new boss, Callum Ferguson. Callum isn’t only a sexy Scotsman but he’s also very cool and irritant. He makes Amy so mad at times, he makes her do things that she didn’t think she could do, like stand up for herself, speak her mind. There’s something about Callum that make her do just that. There’s an attraction between them but acting on that is impossible. Because their firm isn’t a believer of romances on the work floor.

Amy hopes that things will get better when she gets a different project in the firm but the attraction reminds and even gets stronger between them. They really try to fight this attraction but sometimes things are just meant to be and this is one of them!

The only thing that they can do after giving in, is to try to keep their affair a secret but that isn’t always so easy when you are so attracted to each other. But Amy has to be careful because she made some enemies on her workplace and they would love nothing more than to get her sacked.

Can Amy have everything? The man she loves and her degree? Or will she has to choose between the two of them? And if so, what or who will she choose? Love or security?

I really enjoyed this story very much. I love it when a writer surprises me in a story and Carrie Elks did this to me with ‘Canada Square’. After reading the blurb I didn’t really knew what to expect from Amy but I liked her very much. She got more confidence during the story and you can say that she grew into herself. I loved the way that she stood up against Callum. I love the interaction and the chemistry between Amy and Callum and the way that their ‘relationship’ blossomed between them. But it's also a story about Amy’s friends and her family, how they see her and her ambition for becoming more in life.

For people who has read the first two books in this series, they will see the other couples again, which is always a treat.

This is the first book I have read by Carrie Elks, it is the third in the Love in London series but can definitely be read as a standalone. I will however be going back to read the first two instalments of this series.
When Amy Cartwright gets her internship at a well-known firm, never did she expect it to turn out quite like this. Not only did she turn up and not have a position ready, but she got thrown in the deep end, becoming the PA to Callum Ferguson was not going to be easy. However, she needs to complete this placement or risk failing her degree. Can she keep her head down and get through this?
The sexy Scotsman loves his calm, quiet life, until Amy quite literally comes barging into not only his life but his office. Office romances are not allowed here, which makes the need for Callum to keep his distance more important. However as time passes, both find the pull to be too much to ignore. Hiding such chemistry proves hard on both parts, and as a result they both risk losing everything they have worked for. For Callum, it’s his job. For Amy it’s the chance to graduate from her degree. Is it worth it?
To Amy it appears it is, Callum apparently not so much. When he leaves without a word poor Amy is left not only heart broken, but left to deal with the aftermath of their affair.
This was a really great read and I can’t wait to go back and read Carrie’s other books. I could not put this down. The characters draw you in and refuse to let got until you have their entire story. There were definite moments when I wanted to scream, but overall I fell totally in love with the couple and their friends. It is definitely one I will recommend to others.

Another great addition to the ‘Love In London’ series. If you are looking for a sprinkling of angst and drama with your romance, then this may well be the story for you. Set in the cut and thrust world of ‘the city’ this story follows Amy Cartwright (whose brother Alex featured in ‘Broken Chords’) who needs to get an internship in order to complete her hard fought for degree, and start off her new life, away from her lying, cheating boyfriend. The first day of her internship sees her like a ‘fish out of water’, her lack of money and privilege make her stand out from the other employees and interns and things don’t get off to a good start when she shouts at the man who, she later learns’ is to be her new boss! However mutual loathing soon turns to attraction but due to the companies ‘non fraternisation’ policy their relationship has to be conducted in secret, and they face many stormy times. I won’t say anything else about this as I don’t want to spoil it for anyone but it’s fair to say that both Amy and Callum have to face some challenges and the ending of the book really made me hope that they would make it as a couple as they face new challenges together. This is something that I hope the author will pursue further. As other reviewers have said you get to see characters from the first two novels in the ‘Love in London’ series but you do not need to have read the previous two books as each story can be read as a standalone.

Amy Cartwright is living a phase of changes in her life. First, she receives a message with a photo of her boyfriend cheating on her while kissing another girl. After 8 years together, is certain that Luke doesn't respect her, it wasn't his first betrayal.
Then she was starting a new job as an intern for a large company that only hired students from Cambridge and Oxford, and she was a student at the University of East London.
But the biggest surprise was her new boss, Callum Ferguson, a Scotsman who did everything to scare her, but in truth, he was impressed with her.

The work between them should last a short time since she should not be a PA, but work with projects.
But the coexistence was inevitable to start to feel a mutual attraction.
The hard part was having to deal with idiots work colleagues.
As she took her professional life, Amy still had to face the truth about her ex-boyfriend; a professional idiot who didn't spare in offending her when he realized she would not forgive him. Then, when she discovers that her family had kept it a great secret.

While dealing with so many new things in her life, the biggest surprise was yet to come, and the relationship between her and Callum that seemed to be growing in good terms end up having to face their biggest obstacle.
Could Amy's heart handle this new disappointment?

Best book of the series!!
Complex characters, engaging plot, good pace. No cliffhanger.

This is the third book of Carrie's Love in London series, and easily my favorite.
Why? I have no bloody idea, but it is. I love Amy’s journey of self-discovery. Of finding who she is inside, and how strong and capable a woman is lurking under the surface. I adore Callum, and how she manages to get under his skin, the way he tries to push her away with his gruffness. A certain coffee incident still makes me smile. Carrie gives us glimpse of the main characters of the other two books which is like being able to say hello to an old friend.
Well written, perfectly paced, with enough angst to make you grit your teeth and the kind of love and ending that makes you smile.
I highly recommend it! Grab yours today!

I really enjoyed this contemporary romance. It was reminiscent in a very good way of Courtney Milan's contemporary young adult novel, Trade Me.

As a Canadian, I wanted to read this book simply for the title! But fair warning - Canada Square is the address of the company where Amethyst - pardon me, AMY - and Callum work. Their love affair is sweepingly romantic. There is a company policy against fraternization, but even that threat isn't enough to keep them apart.

I did feel that Amy's reaction to Callum's protective moves were a bit over to top. She does have abandonment issues, and I think those could have been explored a bit more to give her reactions more motivation. But all in all I truly enjoyed the story, and would definitely recommend it.

Received an ARC copy for a honest review
Amy is about to start her internship and the last thing on her mind is her love life after she finally realises what an idiot her ex Luke is.
Callum becomes Amy's boss. He is still reeling over the death of his wife but he can't stop thinking about Any.
Being work colleague's there not allowed to have a relationship but will/does that stop anything from happening????
Amy has lots of things to deal with an over protective family who are keeping secrets, her degree......
What happens if she thinks of herself for a change and no one else

Canada Square
4 stars
I purchased a copy of the steamy second chance romance Canada Square: Love in London book 3 in the Love in London trilogy by Carrie Elks and this review was given freely.
Continues the theme of drug use related tragedy as well as mental and physical abuse but adds a forbidden office place romance gone wrong in this novel where Alex's youngest sister Amethyst" Amy" Cartwright leaves an 8 toxic year relationship with her cheating boyfriend Luke, takes a paid internship in a London American based financial company, and struggles with her autonomy and feelings for her boss. Through the supportive counseling of her sister-in- law Lara and with the protection of her alpha brother Alex and loving sacrifice of everything ends happily.
18+ recommended for abuse content and steamy scenes.

I absolutely loved the third book in this trilogy, which are all standalone stories. Carrie is so talented and what I adore about her characters is that they are far from perfect. Giving characters flaws, whether it is mental health, a painful physical condition etc, gives readers the opportunity to identify with them in different ways. While it shows how serious life can be this book definitely made you show how fun it can be too, with Amy and Callum's banter, which made me laugh so much! Just fantastic!

I really enjoyed the characters; the personal conflict and the juxtaposition of the different family dynamics. Always brilliant to read about London and it reminds us of the pleasure and angst of living in a capital city and the bitchiness of corporate life. We’ve all had one of the peers that make life hell and I relished the confrontations. Pity about a few problems with editing but a brilliant enjoyable read.

5 Stars!!!

I was given this book in turn for an honest review.

Amy Cartwright now single and free has a plan; get a degree, get a job and leave her home town. Callum Ferguson wants a simple straightforward life; he’s resided to being alone. They share an instant attraction, fighting it is fruitless. Pursuing each other could cost them their jobs; is it worth the risk?

This is the first book of Carrie Elks I have read and I can safely say it will not be my last! I was enthralled within the first few pages and found it hard to break away from the story when real life was demanding my attention. I absolutely loved this contemporary romance. The main characters found a space in my heart just for them. I found myself smiling with a big cheesy grin and laughing at their natural and all-consuming rapport, they were the kind of characters you can relate to in some way and imagine being friends with.

Amy had a wicked sense of humour and considering her jackass of an ex and an over bearing family who deep down did in fact only have her best interests at heart, she was a strong and wonderful woman. She was loyal, friendly, independent, and intelligent with a wonderful sarcastic sense of humour. Her new job definitely changed her for the better, she found an aura of strength she didn’t realise she had and she wouldn’t allow anyone to undermine or demean her.

Callum appeared to be a very grouchy, conceited man; he was all work and no play. Deep down he was also a caring, intelligent, thoughtful man with a sense humour that matched Amy’s perfectly. As time progressed the truly wonderful, charming and all-consuming romantic and sexy man who wasn’t afraid to show his true emotions made more of an appearance. Without any doubt I fell and fell hard for Callum Ferguson.

Canada Square is an intense contemporary romance, one with two souls that find each other and struggle to fight against the inevitable. Their hearts beat as one and no amount of denying it will change that fact. The connection they share is soul bound and they help to rebuild each other; Amy helps to mend Callum’s broken soul, whilst he in turn protects her and supports her to follow her dreams.

This story isn’t without its twists and turns that keep you on your toes or with characters you will find yourself wanting to throttle first hand and show them what karma really looks like!

This romance will captivate you; the suspense and romance will have you sitting on the edge of your seat, pleading that they get the happy ever after they deserve.

If you love contemporary romances, with characters you love and an all-consuming story line that holds so many possibilities, without a doubt you will love Canada Square by Carrie Elks.

“Get degree, get a job and get the hell out of here, I remind myself . . . If only my heart believed that.”
Kindle Loc. 1559 of 4986

Twenty-three year old Amy Cartwright has learned the hard way to keep her priorities in focus. Raised without a father and with her mother, Tina, in complete disarray, Amy just wants to graduate from college. Don’t even bring up her slime-bag, cheating ex, Luke. She’s finally moving on from the past and work, not love, is now her goal. Amy needs to finish her required internship at the Richards and Morgan firm to complete her degree. The last thing she needs is another distraction.

Enter Callum Ferguson. Oxford educated, green-eyed with auburn hair, thirty-three year old Ferguson is a Scotsman with a panty-dropping burr. Smart, hunky, Callum has been putting up a good front since the death of his wife, Jane, a few years earlier. He’s learned to manage on his own and it’s safe to say Callum has learned to channel his energies into his work. Callum doesn’t want any distractions, either.

Here comes Fate. Fate often has a twisted sense of humor. In this instance, the firm that employs both Amy and Callum, Richards and Morgan, has some pretty strict rules regarding fraternization between employees. Yes, that’s right — hands off your PA — or else out you go.

Both Callum and Amy are still putting their own pasts to rest. Family issues are ever-present and let’s not forget that company “no fraternization” policy that hangs over their heads. So what happens when Callum and Amy give in to their attraction to one another?

Canada Square is the third offering in author Carrie Elks' Love in London Series. It is a standalone novel — you need not to have read any of the previous books to enjoy Canada Square.

While the boss/intern trope employed in Canada Square is common, author Elks’ enjoyable writing elevates that theme. Her main characters are well developed, admirable and the reader is sympathetic to their plights. The writing is smooth and the pace is even — the story never bogs down. The secondary characters are equally rounded out and fit into their plot lines neatly. This reader found no extraneous characters or fillers in this story. Elks development of her protagonist, Amy, is done with a masterful hand — one of the best examples of believable, sensical character growth this reader has encountered in the Romance Genre.

Well done, Carrie Elks!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

Book Review - Canada Square by Carrie Elks - 5 wrap me in a blanket and do not disturb stars

I love Carrie. I’m so, so happy that our paths crossed and I discovered her work. Not only is she a genuinely lovely person, but she’s a bloody talented writer.

Getting a new Carrie book is a bit like a Galaxy moment - I don’t know if you remember those. Imagine me curled up in a massive comfy armchair, hot chocolate in one hand, kindle in the other and that’s the image I get when I got to read Canada Square.

Of course the reality is, stealing stolen moments around getting up and showered before work in the morning, sneaking a few pages whilst cooking/heating up tea, desperately trying to keep my eyes open at the end of the day because I want to read the book, but having my eyes rolling in my head from exhaustion. Anyway, you get the point and the first way of describing it is far more attractive than the reality.

Carrie has got another winner on her hands here as far as I’m concerned. Amy is a great leading lady. She’s grown up on the wrong side of the tracks and fought for everything she’s achieved. Going into a work placement as part of her degree, she finds herself working for Callum. Immediately her buttons are pressed and instead of getting subservience, Callum gets attitude. I love this dynamic where the instant connection has them bouncing lines off each other like coins off a firm arse. Spunky and full of fire, Amy breathes much needed life and fire into Callums world. You get to find out just what Callum has had to face before and can’t help rooting for him.

As the two find a spiralling attraction, there is one big obstacle in the way - no workplace romances are allowed and your job is at risk if you do it. With Amy needing the placement to finish her degree and drag herself out of her humble beginnings pitched against the growing attraction between the two, you are left with a situation where something has to give.

Canada Square has us visiting briefly some of our lovable favourite characters from earlier on in the series, which is always nice to come back to. With useless friends, an arsehole ex and an office cowbag, this book is choc full of excitement to keep the pages turning.

I loved dipping into Carries world again ……. Now to find myself a real life bar of galaxy.

ARC REVIEW

**long satisfied sigh**

I really enjoyed this book, it's my first read from this author and I can tell you it won't be my last.

Canada Square is book 3 in the Love in London series and I haven't read previous two books BUT I didn't feel I missed out on anything, this is a Standalone story. I have to admit though I loved Amy's brother Alex and if one of the books is about him I will be reading it.

Onto this book Canada Square, aptly named as this is where Amy gets her Internship.

Amy is a fun characther she's been a bit of a doormat and settled for her long-term boyfriend as it was easy and better the devil you know - well maybe not. She has friends and is busy studying at university.

Amy makes an impression on her first day, she is nervous about starting an internship and maybe doesn't react well to meeting her new boss. I wasn't sure about Callum at first, was he stuck up and privileged? Amy definitely thinks he is and has no trouble saying what she thinks, I found it very amusing.

Over time though it becomes obvious that these two like each other and one way they try to hide it is to throw slight insults at each other, this can only go on for so long and eventually they have to give in to the attraction they share, and their lips then do the talking. <3

Callum has a history, which makes him the man he is. He is 33 so 10 years older than Amy, but they are perfect together and their attraction and feelings for one another radiate off the pages.

Was there anything I would have liked to see... I would have liked to see Sophie's nose put out of shape somehow, she was no friend, as a friend would never tell you to stay with someone who treats you badly.

I loved how the author built the anticipation of the first (not drunk) smooch. Mixed into the romance is some mystery, which really intrigued me and added to Amy's story. I wish I could say their relationship all goes swimmingly, unfortunately, there's some angst, bad angst - it hurt, but I also had a feeling what was happening and was thrilled when I was right.

Would I recommend this book- Oh yes, it's a book to read in one sitting.

I’m a sucker for an old fashioned romance. I like the pieces to fall nicely into place and make me feel warm inside. Canada Square does this with bells on! That’s not to say this is a stress free ride. My aim of this review is not to give the plot away but to tell you all how much I enjoyed the journey this book took me on. I would like to encourage you all to read this lovely tale and make up your own opinion. I loved every word and highly recommend it.

While this is the third in the Love in London series, Canada Square can be read as a stand alone story. I enjoyed getting to know more of characters that we have been introduced to in the other two books. This time we focus on Amy (Amethyst) Cartwright and Callum Ferguson.
Although Canada Square starts in an uncomfortable, sad place, it also goes to show us how strong and driven Amy is. Like most early twenty-year olds she has family and boyfriend issues and internal debates about where she’s going and if she’s on the right track. All of these things play a part in this story. Amy is in her final year at University and is starting her internship at Richards and Morgan. Here is where she meets Callum Ferguson. Let the fireworks begin! The attraction is undeniable but is it right?

One scene that I can’t forget is when Amy arrives at work for her first day. She is jam packed in the elevator and, after asking politely twice for someone to press her floor level button, finally yells and a man reaches for the button smirking at her. It isn’t until later, when Amy arrives at her reassigned work placement, she discovers the man is her new boss.

I would also like to add that I am a huge fan of Carrie Elks’ writing. I read her work when she started out in fan fiction and now her published works. She has a way with words that draws you in and makes you feel a part of the story. I look forward to reading more of her books in the future.

This is Carrie Elks third book in the Love in London series. I was really excited to be able to get this and is the best so far. I loved this book.

It is a totally standalone book from her others and can be read as such. Its a contemporary love story about hidden love and the consequences when its found out. This book follows Amy and her start in the big bad world of internship at a management consultancy firm in Canary Wharf. Fresh out of university Amy grabs the chance to work at Richards and Morgan as a PA for Callum Ferguson. She's landed the job of her dreams and has a hot boss! Callum is stubborn and Scottish, not looking for love but when the quick tongued, sarcastic Amy walks in, his world is blown apart. Neither are looking for love, in fact company rules forbid it! But like moths to a flame they cant stop the attraction until eventually their love affair is found out. Inter office affairs never end well.

I have read Carrie Elks other books and I love her style of writing, its fresh, engaging and draws you in. Amy is a likeable character, she has a quick tongue, she is funny and sassy. Callum is tall and brooding, just as Scottish men should be. The way Carrie writes you can hear Callum and Amy voices in side your head. Callum with his soft Edinburgh tone and Amy with a slight estuary accent. When their love is found out you can feel the pain of them being forced to separate. You will them both to be together and be happy. It's that type of book. With Carrie you get pain, tears, then more tears. Carrie's books are the ultimate in feel good. This is a book I would happily recommend to anyone, be it a holiday read or a Sunday afternoon read.

Well done Carrie for another brilliant book. 5 * read all the way.

Canada Square is a little gem of a book and the first I've read from Carrie Elks. I started reading this last night when the insomnia kicked in and read right through until I'd finished it.

Amy Cartwright is the youngest of 3 siblings and so is often over protected, particularly by her brother Alex. She has an on- off boyfriend but when his latest lie comes along, something snaps. Amy decides she no longer wants to be the push over and ends it... determined to concentrate on gaining her degree she lands herself a rather tasty intern-ship and pushed her ex - and love, out of her mind.

When a mishap with her new job means she has to become a temp PA for a few weeks, the last thing on her mind is to form a relationship with her boss. Amy really comes into her self with Callum, I felt you see her progress from a girl to a woman quickly and although I could see where the story line was going, I wasn't expecting the twist of Callum's actions.

Alongside this, there is a sub plot involving Amy's past and the truth surrounding her Father - Amy has to question who she can trust and what she can believe over the coming weeks.

Carrie Elks has a great way with words, I found Canada Square fast past with the story moving forward rapidly yet flowingly. There are great set of characters supporting Amy and I'm keen to read the other two books in the series - especially Broken Chords which is book 2 and features Amy's brother and sister-in-law, Alex and Lara.

Overall, Canada Square is a gorgeous rollercoaster of a love story.
