Troy Henson is a highly motivated college student with big plans for his future. But when Troy's mom asks him to drop out of school and get a job to pay for his little sister's medical treatments, he immediately says yes. Troy would do anything for his kid sister Natalie.
With spring break fast approaching, Troy’s best friend Gavin offers him the send-off of a lifetime: an all-expenses-paid trip to Florida with their best buddies in tow.
Troy and Gavin’s friendship goes to unexpected places on the sandy beaches of Panama City. When Troy awakens from a night of passionate firsts, his bed is empty. Gavin is nowhere to be found. Now it's Troy's last day in college, and he can't believe Gavin has turned his back on their friendship forever.
But Gavin has another surprise up his sleeve -- a surprise that just might show Troy the true meaning of love.
A tearful start, great friends and finding first love with your best friend. A short story that makes you long for spring breaks and that first love with your unknown crush on your beat friend.
Troy and Gavin have been best friends forever and have life plans extending beyond college. When family health and financial issues cause Troy to withdrawal all those plans circle the drain. Gavin and their other friends Blake and Damien offer up some contacts for jobs (Troy won’t accept charity), wishing there was more they could do, when Gavin gets the idea to have the three pay for the Troy to go on Spring Break with them, a last hurrah so to speak. Gavin asks Troy not to take any job or withdrawal until he talks to him first and Troy agrees deciding to do nothing until after Spring Break. Spring Break is incredible and when Gavin kisses Troy and leads him back to the room for more he is confused but willing, when he wakes up alone and Gavin is nowhere to be found, he is hurt and more confused. As hours pass to days he is left with the feeling that sex was too much and the relationship/friendship is most likely over, and all he wants to know is why. Sweet first time friends to lovers story! Loved the characters, especially Gavin and his devotion to Troy, even if it took time to be able to explain everything. I definitely recommend it!
It does not matter if the needed communication does not convey the right message. Troy is having enough family problems without the added discovery of being gay with his best friend over night, then being left incommunicado in a Spring Break resort the owing morning. Everyone seems to be hiding secrets from Troy while he has to face the decisions about school, job, and caring for his family as his sister's medical condition goes untreated due to state funding cuts. (My sister has faced the budget cuts while living entirely with Medicaid and state support) But with friends like Gavin, Damian, and Blake, what more could a guy want? Other than non-stop gay sex and love from Gavin? The friends that support his family in need are the best kind of friends so that Troy's life does not end shattered by uncontrollable events. The lesson o trust the love freely given is a hard one to learn.
While this book has the potential to be a really good book, it kind of left me wanting more. It wasn't that it was a bad story, in fact I really did like the story. It's just that overall it wasn't as put together as I would have liked it to be.
