I swear to God, Amazon is fucking with me. I mean, maybe not. To be fair, I did some Cyber Monday shopping while swigging cold medicine straight from the bottle – and I’m talking about that viscous green stuff you have to sign for, the kind where they don’t even bother to try adding flavor. Still, I can’t imagine what I was looking at that would result in Blitzen’s Fated Mate showing up under “Recommended for You!”

But it did. So of course I read all 53 pages of “WTF just happened here” so you don’t have to.

You’re welcome.

So Blitzen’s Fated Mate is about – I shit you not – a reindeer shifter who works for Santa Claus. Arian (not Adrian, Arian) is an arctic shifter who can change into a reindeer, snowy owl, arctic fox, or polar bear. He’s super excited because he’s finally been drafted into the “Blitzen position” pulling Santa’s sleigh.

Reindeer aren’t something I ever imagined sexualizing – let alone Santa’s reindeer – and while I now fully understand that somewhere, right this minute, someone is masturbating to that exact fantasy, I have to say I was happier in my little ignorance bubble.

More fun facts about this book: all shifters are born male and the only opportunity they have to mate and have a family is if Mrs. Claus selects a female elf for them to be paired with (elves are human-sized, BTW). This is such bullshit. The idea of Mrs. Claus being involved in a shifter selective breeding program sounds like a nightmare I’d have after mixing my cold medicine with hard liquor. Mrs. Claus is a sweet old woman who bakes cookies and gets on Santa about his fucking cholesterol and that’s it. I refuse to accept any other reality.

I don’t know what to say about Blitzen’s Fated Mate other than “Well, that shit just happened.”

I went back and forth on 2 or 3 stars for this one. On the downside, the character development is all but non-existent, the outcome is more than usually predictable, and while explicit, the sexy bits don't really light up the tea-kettle. On the plus side - the hero is one of Santa's reindeer! An arctic-shifter Arian can be a polar bear, artic, fox, snowy white owl or a reindeer. So no worries alpha-male fans, he's studly enough. And Santa. There's an appearance by Santa. So, go for it. Pour yourself a cup of cocoa and enjoy a silly, more cute than steamy, holiday read.

Short and cute and fun and perfect for the holiday season.

While pulling S.C.’s sleigh, a buckle on his harness breaks and Arian plummets down and lands in Charli’s yard. What a surprise she gets when she investigates what the streak of light was that fell from the sky.

These two were sweet together and their meet-cute was fun. Being fated mates, they couldn’t help being drawn to each other. I would’ve loved to feel like I knew them a little bit better, but I still enjoyed the story nonetheless.

It was quick, it was Christmassy, and it was insta-lovey with some mild steam. I’m very interested in reading the rest in the series about the other reindeer.

Arian is a quad shifter and he is basically frickin cool!! Reindeer, fox, owl and a polar bear?!?!......can't ask for more ;). Guess who Santa ask to guide his sleigh.....

Charli is a romance writer and she was there at the right time when something from the sky fell down. Love it.

Reviewed at Shifter Haven

Charli lives deep in the woods in the cabin that has become home. She’s a romance writer, a paranormal romance writer, so she’s familiar with the magic of her own creations… she simply never expected one to drop from the skies!

Arian has made it onto Santa’s sleigh team this year. Truly an honor and every quad shifter’s goal. This year’s trip was going smoothly, he was enjoying the magic of their special flight when he heard a sound that sent chills through him… the leather of the ancient harness snapping. And he plummeted down to the snowy grown far below knocking him out on impact.

Charli had been standing at the window on Christmas Eve, well the very early hours of Christmas morning now. The scene outside was peaceful and beautiful if a bit lonely feeling. When she saw a blinding light and the arc of something falling from the sky into the woods nearby. Without thought she rushed out to see what was happening. To her surprise a reindeer lay on the ground, obviously injured and dying. As she knelt beside the animal, mourning the loss of such a beautiful creature she touched its side… and the fur beneath her hands turned into skin as the animal morphed into a man, a very naked, injured man.

Blitzen’s Fated Mate is such a fun, whimsical Christmas shifter tale – I adore it. Definitely a short story, but a powerful one none the less I’ve downloaded the second reindeer’s story and have the third on pre-order. Hey, at only a dollar each I can give myself a treat – and you can too. This story is a fun, quick touch of Christmas magic, Santa and reindeer included, what’s not to enjoy?

This is my introduction to this author and it's a good one. All the characters are good and feel real enough that I don't have to try and figure out what they will do in a given situation. You get a good description of both locations for both the supernatural and human inhabitants of their own realities. I found myself not even minding the instant attraction since this feels like the right way of things based on the way the story is written and the myths being built.

It's Christmas Eve and romance writer Charli is watching out her window as something falls from the sky and into the woods behind her home. When she goes to investigate she finds what at first seems to be an injured reindeer that morphs into a very attractive man after she touches him.

Arian is an Arctic shifter with the ability to shift into four animals. This Christmas Eve is his first run and the sleigh harness breaks causing his fall. He is lucky to survive and even luckier to have found his fated mate. The surprise is that she is human.

This was a sweet, fun, and funny, romantic read that had me from the first sentence to the end credits.

This book wasn’t bad per se but it wasn’t great either. Even for a novella, I felt this was way rushed and could’ve used a little extra steam.

If you’re looking for a quick, cute holiday read with a touch of the paranormal, look no further. It’s free and it will only take you an hour or so to read it

I had heard about this book on the Smart Bitches Trashy books website. They gave it an F+ for just pure nutsiness and I loved the review.
Honestly, I don't think Elyse's review can be beat so the TL;DR is that the shifter in the "Blitzen position" falls out of the sky and meets his fated mate who he more or less immediately starts boning.

Sweet

Arian also known as Blitzen on the sleigh squad fell from the sky. In doing this he meets his fated mate Charli. Can't believe Declan shot him with a tranquilizer, lol.

Blitzen’s Fated Mate (Arctic Shifters, #1) by R.E. Butler ⭐⭐½

Hero - Arian. Arctic shifter with four forms - polar bear, arctic fox, snowy owl, and reindeer. 6’6 and muscular with short, light brown hair and blue eyes that eventually turn gold. Also has a tattoo on one bicep.

Heroine - Charlotte, or Charli. Paranormal romance author. Petite and curvy. Lightly tanned skin with dark brown hair and chocolate-brown eyes.

Overall Thoughts - Hmm...I enjoyed it for its uniqueness, but it’s not my preference for a fated mates story. It’s fairly well-written though the characters do lack depth, making it hard to really feel their connection. It’s short, interesting, and I never felt my attention wander. It’s worth a read, but I probably wouldn’t read it again. I’m not sure if I’ll continue with the series because I prefer fated mates to be each other’s one and only and if this first book is an indicator of what’s to come, I don’t think I’m going to get that.

What I Liked

The worldbuilding. Let me drop a few facts on you: 1) the reindeer names are actually positions on Santa’s sleigh team, 2) the only way for a shifter to mate is if Mrs. Claus matches them with someone suitable or if the shifter happens to find their fated mate, 3) Mrs. Claus will only consider matchmaking a shifter who’s earned himself a noble profession - like sleigh work, 4) There aren’t many females in North Pole City, 5) There are only two types of beings in NPC, elves and shifters, 6) Not all shifters are quads - that is, able to shift into all four forms, 7) North Pole-born creatures can only leave NPC for 24 hours - dawn on Christmas Eve to dawn on Christmas day, 8) Elves are normal-sized, like humans, but have pointy ears, 9) Only elves are born both male and female. Shifters are always male, 10) Shifters have to mate with female elves in order to have children, 11) NPC has a gathering spot for all the singles to go (a place with food and drink) where the males can approach the females for sex. If receptive, they got to a private room, 12) Santa’s not the stereotypical fat man the media portrays him as. Instead, he's tall and muscular, though he still has the white hair, a beard that reaches the middle of his chest, and blue eyes that swirl with gold.

The heroine’s profession. Charli is a writer who specializes in shifter romances, and she’s also a fan of sci-fi and fantasy, making it easy for her to swallow the reality of seeing a reindeer shift into human form. It allowed the story to progress at a steady pace without the hero needing to convince her that he’s not crazy.

Uniqueness. I checked this book out for two reasons: 1) It was free on Amazon, and 2) I’d never seen a shifter story involving Santa’s reindeer. I love it when authors tackle unique topics and R.E. Butler did a decent job of it.

What I Disliked

Unfaithful mates. Well, maybe not “unfaithful”, but both the H/h appear to have been with others before finding one another. I prefer shifter couples to be each other’s one and only.

The matchmaking. In this world, fated mates are rare so Mrs. Claus uses her magic to match shifters with a suitable female elf. Here’s the problem, though - because NPC creatures aren’t allowed to leave but for 24 hours each year and mating with humans is unheard of, that means there are probably tons of shifters in North Pole City who have fated human mates that they’ll never get to meet and are matched to elves by Mrs. Claus. How sad is that? For both the shifter and the human. I’m sure the author didn’t intend it to come across that way, but that’s the reality of her worldbuilding.

Neutral But Noteworthy

The characters. There’s not much to them, depth-wise, but they’re alright. The page count’s just not long enough to develop a magical world, characters with depth, and an epic fated mates story.

Connected book. Obviously this is the first book in a series of connected books, but I wanted to mention one in particular. Charli mentions a sister named Kerri and it turns out she’s got her own book, Prancer’s Fated Mate. So yeah, she gets mated with Sullivan, who briefly appears in this book.

Woo-hoo, Santa's reindeer are all shifters! This *could* have been interesting. Arian, of course, has the ability to shift into, not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 forms! (Arctic fox, polar bear, reindeer, and snowy owl). Mrs Claus is in charge of matchmaking. Yep, she decides who gets to be with who. Unless, one meets their "fated mate," ie: insta-love. Charli is a paranormal romance writer. Okay, that could be a portable career, since if they chose to live in the North Pole, they're stuck there. Oh wait, it didn't matter. (Boo and hiss!)
This had potential and could have been good. This didn't, IMO.

A short shifter holiday romance novella.

Thought it was interesting that those that get to fly Santa's sleigh, are quads - those that can shift into 4 different forms. Didn't really see the purpose of this, at least in this book? Seemed it was just a way to say they were special or stronger. Liked the world established, but it was just okay. Was funny that the heroine was a shifter romance writer, so she was "familiar" with fated mates and just accepted it right away.

Would read more if they were on KU.

Blitzen’s Fated Mate by R.E. Butler is a cute little novella about none other than Blitzen the Reindeer. Yes, you would be correct if you’re thinking THE Blitzen… as in Rudolph’s reindeer friend.

🎶You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen. Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen🎶

Arian is a quad arctic shifter who is able to shift into four different arctic creatures (not at once, that would be weird). Not to give anything away but one of those arctic creatures is Blitzen the Reindeer. While on his first sleigh run with the other reindeer and Santa, an accident occurs and Blitzen falls, quite literally, into his fated mate’s backyard. Charli, his fated mate, is very confused as to why she just saw a reindeer fall out of the sky and gets a special surprise when she runs out to help him 😏

Because the book is only 65 pages, there wasn’t much development outside of Arian and Charli. I found myself finishing the book feeling slightly unsatisfied. I would have loved more follow-up on Arian and Charli’s life in North Pole City. That being said, I otherwise enjoyed Blitzen’s Fated Mate! It had me turning the pages like my life depended on it and I’m excited to start book 2, Dasher’s Fated Mate.

Blitzen’s Fated Mate is book 1 out of 8. Each novella follows one of the other reindeer on Santa’s sleigh team. Unfortunately Rudolph does not have a his own book and I’d be lying if I said that didn’t disappoint me…

I honestly don't know what I just read. I thought this was going to be a cute little spicy holiday read and I mean in some sense it is, but I have no one to blame but myself when it comes to how surprised I was at how short this book was (I simply didn't pay attention when I got this during a stuff your kindle event). I initially found it intriguing because it's about a reindeer shifter finding his fated mate, and I'm all for the fated mate trope, but in some ways I'm sorry, but this was a little too cringy for me. Not only does Arian shift into a reindeer, but he can also shift into an arctic fox, a polar bear, and a snowy owl; that was a little too much for me but hey go crazy. Then you have the fact that Charli just so happens to be a supernatural romance author and her little geek out when she meets Santa Clause (because he does make a little appearance). Was this book kind of cute? Yes. Was I left disappointed? Also, yes. I honestly think this had more potential had it been longer (it's literally 65 pages long- most of which pertains to other promotional stuff); and it's part of a series, all of which are about the same length as this one, I think I will stick with a one and done. But hey, if you like fast-paced, short paranormal romances with fated mates then maybe this one is for you.

I am on a roll with these stories with the famous reindeer in the titles.

The story follows Charli and Arian. Charli is a romance writer who sees something fall from the sky and when she discovers it is a reindeer who starts to transform into a man. Arian is a shifter and he has taken the role of a sleigh-puller for Santa, but his harness breaks and he falls from the sky. They two realize that they are fated mates but he has one night before he has to go back.

This was very short and I wished it was longer. Just because I would've liked them to have more time to get to know each other more. But I get that they have one night and they are destined mates so it was insta-love for sure. It worked, but I did want more time for them to get to know each other before Arian and Charli have to make a big decision in the end. Poor things.

But yes - this wasn't bad overall. A hair bit cheesy of course, but I enjoyed it. It was fun and a completely fresh and different then your typical paranormal romance.

Overall, not a bad one. It is a shorty, but not a bad read. Cheesy and insta-love, but I enjoyed the fresh spin of shifter-folk. 3 stars

Well, uh, ok then. More cheesy than sexy, more superficial than complex depth to situations or characters, and just a general feeling of silliness mixed with bafflement.

Arian, which just reminds me of Hitler by the way, is a quad shifter. That's kind of cool. But he kind of speaks like a simpleton and has pretty much no depth to him at all. Charli is sweet, accepting, and a bit juvenile. She's a bit more real since we have background and a little more information about her life, but it's not really enough to say I know her and am invested in her happiness.

One steamy scene that's got some heat but with the book being so short if there were more it'd just seem like sex was the focus instead of everything else. And the everything else was pretty weird, disjointed, and a bit much for the length of this book anyway.

But, and it pains me to admit this, I'm actually going to read more from this series. The book was meh and weird but I kind of want more. I'm not sure what that says about me...

Arian is a quad shifter. He has four animals in him and one is a reindeer. After twelve years he is finally on a spot on Santa’s sleigh team. This is his first flight and as they’re flying through the air, his buckle breaks and he falls from the sky. Charli is a romance writer and lives in a cabin in the woods. On Christmas Eve she sees something falling from the sky and goes to investigate. She finds a reindeer and thinks he’s dead but when she touches him, an electric charge goes through them an the reindeer changes into a man. When Arian awakes he realizes he has found his fated mate. He emails the security team but they deny his request to stay. They show up ready to take him back but Arian will not go willingly. Will Santa make him leave his mate or will they get to stay together?A sexy, short read. A little Christmas magic and love at first sight.

Blitzen's Fated Mate

This is a short, very quick read that was good. You may need to either enjoy shifter books or be able to put aside needing to understand everything and just believe. Arian is a shifter, who can shift into 4 different animals - a polar bear, arctic fox, reindeer or a snowy owl. Arian was pulling Santa's sleigh when his harness broke and he fell to earth. Charli is an author who watched him fall. Is this love at first sight between the two? Can Charli get over her disbelief and thoughts on Santa? Is this really love at first sight? Pick it up and find out for yourself. Cute, quick read with a little bit of steam thrown in.

This story was cute to be so short. I kind of hope the next story is about Charli's sister.

So worth reading at any time of the year. It is amazingly funny, yet still steamy and shifter. Arian lives in NPC, with Santa and the crew. He is a quad shifter, polar bear, arctic fox, snow owl, and reindeer. This is his first chance to have the Blitzen position on the sleigh team, this also means that he will get mated with Mrs.C's magical intervention. There are very few females up there, so you have to get on the sled team to get mated. First flight out, snap, his harness breaks, and he lands in the yard of Charli, a paranormal shifter romance writer. There has never been a human mating, and shifters are make believe to humans. What a strange Christmas, thank you, Santa.
