All in all, it was a great, entertaining read. (If you're a fan of science fiction and horror.) Some of the stories were better than others but the best part is that I discovered a few new authors to read and follow. My favorites were The Lich by Adam Vine, The Merchant by L. Marshall James, and After Dark by Mikey Campling.

Ancient Enemies - a review by Rosemary Kenny

A marvelous compilation of short(ish) horror stories that will excite, terrify &/or illuminate your knowledge of things that go bump in the night, with no less than 11 dark 'tales of the unexpected' for the unsuspecting reader, by authors in the genre...not to be missed!

1) Granted by J Nicole Perkins: a curse-bound genie grants three wishes to a young woman - more Grimm's Fairytales than Disney's Aladdin!?!!
2) After Dark by Mikey Campling: An unsuspecting young couple go on holiday to a seaside town. Nothing wrong with that during daylight, but what about after dark?
3) Gene Catcher by Adam Vine: Paul and Linda hook up, as young lovers are prone to - but us Linda really what she seems on the surface?
4) Revolution by L.Marshall James: What truths will journalist Will Utrecht uncover when he interviews a billionaire? Shades of Interview With the Vampire!
5) They Make Me Dance by Stant Litore: No 'bogie man' could possibly be as bad as some of the things we inflict on our fellow-man - or could it?
6) The Halfway House by Luke Hartwick: Using serum, a 'kindly' doctor saves the 'infected' from remembering what they did until he got them into his clinic...but when the 'magic potion' runs out, what next...?
7) Of the Lake by J.D Baker: How lucky will Gavin feel, when he finds out his lovely new girlfriend is an alien?
8) Dachau Sunset by Paul Antony Jones: Evil lurks in the confines of the infamous Death Camp - and it's not wearing a Nazi uniform!
9) The Lich King by Adam Vine: I want to tell you a story - the real story - about the Lich King and his Castle-under-the-Mountain....
10)Once In a Blood Moon by Mikey Campling: An American tourist visits the sleepy UK town of Temple Ashton. But what difference does Marcus see under the full moon - not a tale of Milk Wood - you have been warned!
11)The Merchant by L Marshall James: Are the dead just as greedy as they were in life (or can/do they become so)?

A collection of short stories,

some are good, some not so good. To be honest I don’t normally go for short stories. Most seem to be lacking one way or another. I wanted to read this book because it had a short story by J D Barker and he did not disappoint.

Interesting collections of pretty dark subject matter. There are a few that are well plotted and written, others are just so-so. They are mostly short and read quickly.
I wouldn't bother with this book if you don't want to read dark topics.

Eh

I'm just not that in to short stories. They didn't seem developed enough and the endings were not very satisfying
