A story that truly shows the bond between the members of the family, that is Fantastic Four, and the ruthlessness of their greatest enemy, Dr. Doom. The family is hurt and tormented like never before, and their perseverance is a sight to behold.

Έχει ενδιαφέρουσες ιδέες, αλλά βρήκα την υλοποίηση μέτρια. Πολύ περίεργος ρυθμός, πότε λίγο πιο αργός και λίγο πιο βιαστικός από όσο πρέπει, η ιδέα ότι ο Mr Fantastic αναγκάζεται να μάθει μαγεία για να νικήσει τον Doom είναι ενδιαφέρον concept αλλά η υλοποίηση... κλάφτα, το σχέδιο δε με τρέλανε. Μόνο στα δύο τελευταία τεύχη, όπου βλέπουμε τις συνέπειες των όσων έγιναν στην αρχή η ιστορία αποκτάει συναισθηματικό βάθος και αποδίδει με ενδιαφέροντα τρόπο τους χαρακτήρες

This is essentially Dr. Doom's Killing Joke story. It shows just how cruel and relentless he is, and the limits of how far he will go to prove he is right. Dr. Doom kidnaps Reed and Sue's son and throws him in hell, while also possessing their daughter and later kidnapping her. He then forces the Fantastic Four to surrender. While the fantastic four are being tortured with his black magic, Reed is locked in a special cellar that has Dr. Doom's books of magic and sorcery. But why would Dr. Doom lock Reed Richards away with the means to defeat him? To prove a point. He wants to prove that Reed is ignorant when it comes to magic and that he is his superior in this matter. Reed does succeed, but only with the help of the sorcerer supreme himself, Dr. Strange. In the end, Reed and his family are scarred forever by Dr. Doom's actions and Reed's face is scarred from Doom's magic. I would have given this the full five star rating if it had better art, but that was really the only thing I didn't like about it. I can see why Dr. Doom is widely considered to be the best Marvel villain! This is a great example of a science vs. magic story

Ok, two major developments in this book, both Doom related:

1. Doom sacrifices his first love in exchange for an upgrade to his magic powers
2. Doom reveals that he made the youngest Richards kid into his familiar


After having read the recent Superior Doom book and seeing a full-shades-of-grey Victor, this super-selfish uber-evil Doom is still shocking. Especially coming from Waid, who knows how to get to the heart of a character, unearthing their true nature out from under the constraints of their archetypes.

It’s not the best Doom, but he’s certainly the equal of Reed and the rest of the FF, and that sure makes him scary.

And even when he’s inevitably put back in the box, the family has to deal with some pretty serious aftermath. That’s some heartfelt and worthwhile words to read, images to soak in.

This was Mark Waid's big, epic FF story where he did his Doctor Doom story and just blew the doors off things.
Instead, it turns out to be one of the only stumbles in an otherwise brilliant run on the FAntastic Four.
It just doesn't feel like Waid 'gets' Doctor Doom. All through this story, Doom doesn't sound right, his motivations seem off and a lot of his actions seem out of character.

Yes, Doom started as a typical Lex Luthur mad scientist/arch foe, but over time he evolved and his meglomania was balanced with a kind of odd nobility and the idea that Doom would want to rule the world, mostly because he thought he could do a better job, but he also had a set of rules that made him a bit more then just another super villain.
There's no sign of that. This Doom is vicious, scheming and is making deals with others to pull off his evil plan.
Plus, I found the constant messing with the Reed and Sue's kids to be not just out of character for Doom, but unpleasant and over done.
Call me old fashioned, but if you're going to be torturing kids in a story it had better be a great story and the torture had better be a rock solid, the story can't work without it element and in this one, it wasn't.It was forced melodrama.

It's a shame, because the scenes of the FF trying to cope and stick together through all this are well written, and Waid does a great job of focusing on Reed and making him an interesting character.

Tenía a esta etapa de Waid y en particular este arco “Unthinkable”, como uno de los mejores (según los expertos), de los escritos sobre la familia fantástica.

Para este nuevo round, Dr Doom – Mr Fantastic, Waid recurre a una original variante con respecto al pasado (al menos para mí), que involucra directamente a los hijos de los Richards y al empleo por parte del villano de artes oscuras, magia y hechicería. Y realmente no decepciona, ya que logra mantener la atención del lector, con dosis justas de épica, acción y misterio.

Lamentablemente Wieringo (no digo que sea mal dibujante), parecería que no es la mejor elección para ilustrar el trabajo de Waid, su estilo “acartoonado” con influencias del manga, creo le resta la solemnidad necesaria, para plasmar el tono buscado por el escritor.

En los dos números finales “5th Wheel”, Waid junto con Casey Jones (ya no opino), nos muestran las consecuencias directas que sufre el pequeño Franklin, tras su visita al infierno.

Si no fuera por los artistas, un “cuatro estrellas” sólido.

Esto fue demasiado entretenido, la escritura de Waid con los dibujos de Mike dieron el timing perfecto para leer algo lo más parecido posible a las series de superhéroes de la tele, esas livianitas pero emocionantes como The Flash.

Este comic es sobre Richards pos sobre todas las cosas, Doom con su eterna obsesión por demostrar su superioridad y como Reed siempre lo ha saboteando porque en su visión del mundo, este lo envidia.

El nombre impensado viene de las muchas cosas impensadas que terminan ocurriendo, como la traición de Doom al amor de su vida, solo para satisfacer ese deseo megalómano que siempre ha tenido por dentro. Si la ciencia no pudo, tendrá que ser la magia y es ahí donde fue capaz de doblegar a los 4F, pues Richards no dominaba esta área y ni siquiera creía que fuese posible lo que se puede hacer.

Finalmente, Victor termina siendo víctima de su propio ego que no lo deja ver que fue engañado por fuerzas que él no entiende pero se niega a aceptar, no así como Reed que es capaz de comprenderlo y justo cuando estaba por irse decide marcar a Richards a nivel físico, después de todo el daño emocional que lo hizo sobrepasar cuando atacó a sus hijos.

Una de las partes más altas de este comic son las consecuencias del ataque de Doom, como la familia se fracciona, como Reed se niega a aceptar que odia como se ve su cuerpo, que no acepta todo lo que les hizo Victor y como Franklin ha quedado con estrés postraumático tras su paso al infierno. El sufrimiento de Sue por no poder hacer nada y como Ben, el amigo de la familia quien tuvo una infancia dura es capaz de enseñarle a Franklin que a pesar de todo lo malo, las cosas pasan y ya estará todo mejor.

There are no words to express what I felt reading this comic, especially because, before reading it, I didn't quite like the Fantastic Four. A friend of mine recommended me this one and I bought it to read expecting it to be completely boring. From the very beginning I was surprised.

Although I did not like the Fantastic Four, I always saw a lot of potential in Doctor Doom. I really liked him and he was one of the reasons I loved Jonathan Hickman's "Secret Wars". The things he does here are, as the title already spoils, UNTHINKABLE. It kept me reading non-stop until the end. Mark Waid really understood Von Doom and that was completely awesome.

The Fantastic Four itself is completely amazing (not to say Fantastic) in here. We can relate to all of them, including little Franklin Richards.

After this comic I started to be completely crazy about reading Fantastic Four, and that's why I'm giving this comic a 5 star rating. It made me become a Fantastic Four fan.

Recommended for everyone.

Definitely a nod to Roy Thomas' Doctor Strange Triumph and Tragedy styled Doom. That kickoff issue unravels the brutality bubbling under Doom's hubris. And the story rolls on from there leading to an unhinged Reed who needs to push through perhaps his toughest ever challenge. Loved this arc.

The steaks get higher-and-higher with each issue and no one knows what will happen next, not even Doctor Strange.

Este cómic me trajo muchas emociones encontradas. Por un lado, tengo que admitir que Impensado (y Acción Autoritaria) son de lo mejor que leí de los 4F hasta ahora. Sé que este grupo tiene mucho que ofrecer, pero nunca logré sentir empatía para con ellos más que con ciertos números de Civil War o Secret Invasion.

En este número nos encontramos a los 4F frente a su enemigo más emblemático: Dr. Doom. Es interesante lo que hace Waid en ese sentido dado que nos da una introducción al personaje que hace permite que ningún lector quede afuera. Es una cortesía poco usual en este tipo de cómics, pero que verdaderamente se agradece. No porque lo necesitara particularmente, pero en una continuidad tan extensa, intrincada y contradictoria como la que el Universo Marvel nos ofrece, es un lindo gesto del escritor recordar que un lector no tiene por qué saberlo todo.

La forma en que está contado permite una lectura rápida de la historia. Bien al estilo de Waid, no faltan elementos cómicos, pero tampoco es una historia vacía, sino que nos ofrece una reflexión sobre como aún el mayor genio del universo Marvel posee carencias y tiene disciplinas que le son ajenas. Si bien los agujeros argumentales que posee la historia (que van desde conveniencias de guion hasta errores de continuidad) empañan un poco el buen trabajo de Waid, lo cierto es que su propuesta fue osada y, de no haber ocurrido lo que ocurrió en Acción Autoritaria, hubiera sido interesante que esto se continuara en el tiempo.

El universo Ultimate nos mostró un poco lo que este cómic insinua con el personaje de Reed Richards y su incipiente locura, pero lo que más pongo en valor de este cómic es que todo parece tener consecuencias. Todas las acciones pasadas convergen en el presente y las cosas que allí mismo ocurren no son borradas de una viñeta a la otra, sino que tienen una continuidad que da mayor cuerpo a los personajes.

Me estoy excediendo ya, pero no quiero dejar de mencionar el trabajo de Mike Wieringo. Si bien ciertas caracterizaciones las sentí demasiado infantiloides y no fueron de mi agrado, tengo que reconocer que su trabajo tiene calidad y que es capaz de hacer unos poster impresionantes. El dibujo a doble página de la biblioteca y Reed Richards es hermoso, igual que la cicatriz de su rostro. Los contrastes que maneja en su arte que pasan desde lo infantil y ñoño a lo trágico y melancólico me encantaron.

Con uno de los guionistas más reconocidos del medio, es normal que Wieringo no tuviera tanto espacio para narrar a través de sus dibujos, pero aún así su trabajo es bueno y no debe ser pasado por alto.

"W głowie się nie mieści" – tytuł dobrze podsumowuje niemal każdy aspekt tego komiksu, który nie bez powodu został włączony do owej "legendarnej kolekcji". Nie wiem, czy to fakt, że dotąd Fantastyczna Czwórka nie była odpowiednio do swojej historycznej rangi reprezentowana w wydawanych w Polsce komiksach, czy też to, że filmy ekranizujące dokonania "pierwszej rodziny Marvela" nie rezonowały szeroko ani też szczególnie pozytywnie – dla mnie sięgnięcie po tę historię było wkroczeniem na ziemię nieznaną.

Bodźcem ku temu, by wreszcie przeczytać ten komiks, był zwiastun nowego filmu, który może zmienić wszystko na lepsze albo pogrzebać tę rodzinę na wieki. Tak się akurat złożyło, że pierwszym komiksem, w którym zbliżyłem się do Fantastycznej Czwórki, był "Unthinkable" – coś, co wstrząsa posadami tej sfery uniwersum Marvela. Jego lektura okazała się dla mnie bodajże najbardziej traumatycznym marvelowym przeżyciem – choć wciąż dalekim od tego, co przeżywają jego bohaterowie.

Prolog rozkłada na łopatki – i zakładam, że nawet tym, którzy dobrze znają Victora von Dooma, sprawił, że zbierali szczęki z podłogi. A jest to jedynie czubek góry lodowej, z której spada lawina nieszczęść i bólu na rodzinę Reeda Richardsa.

Ten zaś będzie musiał stanąć przed dylematami, którym nauka i zdrowy rozsądek nie są w stanie sprostać – jedynie „odpięcie pasów” racjonalności i pragmatyzmu oraz rzucenie się w odmęt niepoznanego, nieokreślonego i absurdalnego pomogą uratować jego rodzinę i dzieci, poddawane torturom psychicznym i fizycznym, wyrafinowanym i niebezpiecznie zbliżającym się do granic tego, co dozwolone w tego typu literaturze.

Gdyby ktoś pytał – akcji nie zabraknie. To jeden z tych komiksów, które się przeżywa jak dobry dramat sensacyjny: dzieje się dużo, i dużo złego spotyka dobrych ludzi! Na koniec dobro wygrywa... ale to, co złego stało się po drodze, do końca będzie tkwić cierniem w skażonych nim duszach, sercach, a nawet manifestować się w fizycznych ranach.

Co najbardziej lubię w tym komiksie? Prolog – który zaskakuje, bo Doom, równie obcy dla mnie jak Thanos przed "Infinity War", dokonuje moralnie sprzecznych wyborów. I epilog – Ben Grimm, którego postać kojarzyła mi się dotąd tylko z „It's clobberin’ time”, w kilkunastokadrowym słowotoku wzrusza do granic, a w zasadzie torpeduje, a potem definiuje na nowo odpowiedzialne rodzicielstwo (że pominę to, iż odsłania więcej warstw, niż ma ich skorupa Ziemi).

Mój kontakt z Pierwszą Rodziną Marvela jak to się mówi w sferze fanowskiej, nastąpił bardzo późno. Serial animowany, potem takie sobie filmy. Było mi nie po drodze i troszkę szkoda, bo jak się okazuje F4 zasługuje na więcej uwagi.

Na pierwszy plan w omawianym tomie dochodzi nie kto inny jak sam Dr. Doom. Wydaje się on być już zmęczony ciągłymi starciami z Reedem Richardsem i familią, więc tym razem sięga po coś, co zdecydowanie wykracza poza ramy logicznego rozumowania, w jakich operuje Pan Fantastyczny. Czarną magię. Początek to rzut okiem na przeszłość głównego antagonisty, a potem mamy wytoczenie najcięższych armat.

Dr. Doom bowiem atakuje całą Fantastyczną Rodzinę, pozbywając się do tego samego Dr. Strange, tak aby nikt nie przeszkodził mu w planach. A te są okropne. W jakiś sposób "opętuje" Walerię, czyli najmłodsze dziecko Reeda i Susan, a ich pierworodnego syna zsyła do... piekła. Dostaje się tu praktycznie całej rodzinie, w taki sposób, że zostaną trwałe ślady i to nie tylko na psychice. Pan Fantastyczny stanie przed prawie niemożliwym. Nauką magii.

Tak pokrótce jest nam prezentowana fabuła. Waid ma zaskakująco lekkie pióro, ale także sprowadza na tych bohaterów potężne baty. dodatkowo sprawiając, że nie sposób NIE kibicować tym charakterom. Relacje pomiędzy nimi są... fantastyczne. Ben i Johnny. Bomba. I to nie z wodą.

Kreska. Nieżyjący już Mike Wieringo miał świetną kreską, co tutaj tylko potwierdza. Kojarzy mi się ona trochę z kunsztem Bagley, zwłaszcza przy Ultimate Spider-man, ale czuć tutaj jego powiązania z kreskówkami. Nadaje to całości swoistej lekkości, i choć nieco przeczy to poważnemu wydźwiękowi pewnych ukazanych tu wydarzeń, to i tak chcę poznać więcej jego prac, jak i dalsze losy F4. Sądząc po liczbie ocen seria wydaje mi się nieco zapomniana, a szkoda, bo bawiłem się tutaj naprawdę świetnie.

Amazing volume. Genius decision to have the first part of your run largely slice of life, introducing the Four and their status quo and their unique and individual personalities, and then you introduce Victor Von Doom, this self-absorbed, hypocritical, craven monster who will stop at nothing to seize a destiny he believes himself entitled to. Waid brilliantly has Doom castigate Reed in such a way that he's literally just projecting Doom's own attributes onto his enemy.

And so Doom shows up and he derails everything, all the members of the Four get their own chances to stand against him, Reed gets a great arc about magic and accepting loss of control, and then the team is left to pick up the pieces in a very emotionally evocative end to the arc. It's a great story - I'm amazed at how I only knew the Four a little going into this and have now absolutely fallen in love with them.

Сносна историйка, няма от какво толкова да се оплаче човек. Артът беше много приятен, цветовете също, пък и Доктор Дуум си е баш злодеят на FF. Имаше някои интересни сцени, но пък имаше и някои доста нелогични и изсмукани от пръстите. В това отношение просто не е нещо, което да взимам особено на сериозно. Забавление за час-два (зависи доколко разглеждате картинките :D ) и толкова.

Но ако трябва да му призная нещо, то това ще е първият брой, посветен изцяло на Дуум. Ей това е истински скапаняк! Да си откриеш детската любов, само за да я изтъргуваш за магически сили. Даже и за злодеите на Марвел това си беше злобничко. =)

Другото, което ми допадна, е Нещото. Най-култовият пич от Четворката, безспорно.

El Sr Doom quiere acabar con Reed Richards de una vez por todas...y casi, casi lo hace, al final vuelve y pierde por su ego descomedido ( y van...) , peor esta vez se apoya en el otro lado de su historia, la magia, explotando esta vertiente hace un pacto con un trió de demonios vendiendo a su único amor, Valeria, la cual le sirve para aumentar el poder mágico y hacerse una armadura algo asquerosa, pero molona. La historia es entretenida, marcando un ritmo entretenido y con un arte dinámico del inmenso Mike Wieringo ,que descanse al lado de Kiry, mientras que los dos números extras, dibujados por Casey Jones son cumplidores, sin mas.

A really amazing beginning, a very weak middle and a warmth end. This was a very interesting entry with a nice premise that was lingering since the inital apparition of Dr Doom back in time: what happened with his wizardly skills, that deformed him, and were put aside for his scientific might? The weak part was what Dr. Richards and doctor Strange did to counter him (now you can guess what happened). Entertaining, but could be a lot better.

Δεν είχα διαβάσει μέχρι τώρα πότε ιστορία για τους Fantastic Four γιατί λανθασμένα ήμουν προκατειλημμενος για το πόσο cliché θα ήταν μια οικογένεια υπερηρωων. Και όσα και να υπάρχουν σε αυτή, η ιστορία σε κερδίζει με πολύ όμορφο και διδακτικό τρόπο που μοιάζει παράλογα ταιριαστός. Η βασική ιδέα που αφορά στην ισορροπία και πάλη μεταξύ επιστήμης και μαγείας βοηθά και προωθεί την πλοκή με μοναδικό τρόπο.

Liked this volume substantially more than the first of this run, and it starts to use the family structure of the FF to give some real emotional stakes, but it still wasn't quite great. Doom was interesting and it was certainly a different take on him, which I liked. Currently enjoying the aftermath stories in the next volume more, though.

Good Doom fun. He is always a thread and has a good dangerous feeling in him. Even if he wanks around with magic, which is a bit silly. But a good, solid, story.
Also in this edition there is a sobby family type of story. I know, Fantastic Four is always about family, but remembering that, that is always a bore.

Genial tomo que nos cuenta un brutal enfrentamiento entre la primera familia de Marvel y su mayor enemigo: El Dr Doom. Lleno de intensas peleas y momentos trágicos con un arte visual muy inspirado en el cartoon/anime. Mi calificación es de 8/10. En breve empiezo con el siguiente tomo que continua la historia.

Oh man forgot how much I loved Mark Waid and Weiringo on Fantastic Four, this is one of their better ones too, Doom makes a deal with some demons to kidnap Franklin Richards and to save his son, Reed must consult something he's never had much faith in...Magic. Guest starring Doctor Strange this is a great FF story .

"Unfassbar" liefert durchweg Unterhaltung auf einem guten Niveau und ist auch für F4-Neulinge durchaus zu verstehen. Künstlerisch überzeugt der Band mit soliden und modernen Zeichnungen und die erzählte Geschichte ist spannend erzählt.
