Sometimes you need to listen only to your heart rather than to what other people say.

Darin hasn’t actively been looking for his mate, even though he wants nothing more than to meet him. He’s lonely and he works too much, so he’s been hoping for a miracle—for his mate to walk into his bakery. It hasn’t worked yet, but then a man walks into the mansion’s kitchen and declares he’s Darin’s mate, and Darin gets the miracle he’s been waiting for.

Ira has known Darin was his mate for a few months, but he’s been burned by people who should’ve loved him before, so he took his time before deciding to talk to him. Now that he knows Darin won’t hurt him, he takes advantage of a trip to Whitedell to finally properly meet his mate.

Darin and Ira don’t wait to mate, even though they know their families might not be happy about it. But what their families think isn’t their only problem, and when the hunters attack again, Ira will need to fight for his mate and his friends.

Catherine is the creator of several series, most of them paranormal, including the Whitedell Pride Series and the Gillham Pack Series. While she graduated in translation, she decided to go the writer’s way because it was more fun to create her own stories and characters.
She’s been living in Italy for more than twenty years, but she’s a daughter of the North—Belgium to be precise—and she misses it so much that she’s already planning to move back.
She loves pizza—probably too much —her pets, and of course, books. She sneaks some reading time in her schedule every time she has five minutes free from writing, demands from her various pets and son, and lastly, housework.

This was book 18 in the "Whitedell Pride" series. Darin is the twin brother of Shad he is a baker who is opening his own shop. Darin is also lonely his friends and his brother have found mates and he would love to find his. Ira is a snake shifter who comes to comes to the mansion to see if he is Adan's mate when he goes to the kitchen he meets Wes and he smells his mate on him instead of finding Darin and telling him he waits and does a background check on him. I found this odd but when he explained it I understood why he distrust people his family sold him to the glass company because he is a rare shifter. Darin and Ira don't wait to mate they do it quickly and then deal with their families later. Darin and his brother are sugar gliders they are prey and Ira is a predator with him being a snake Darin's family is afraid of Ira when they first meet him and so is their friends. When they go out for a run with friends the twins and their friends are attacked by hunter's Ira helps them along with Gabriel they capture one of them. Ira's family had a problem with his mating with someone who was not the same as them snakes and the fact that he is gay. This was a good read that I didn't think that I would like it because of the snake shifter, but it was pretty good. The pride still hasn't identified the mole. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

Darin is the twin sugar glider and he’s a baker and has stated that the only way he’ll find his mate is if he wanders into his shop, because he’s not going out looking. Well. In walks Ira, a venomous snake shifter, and he’s Darin’s mate.

**

Like all the books in this series, the mating is fairly instantaneous and though there is a little fear between the prey and predator in each of the men, the mating instincts easily over ride the fear.

There is a teeny bit of drama surrounding Darin’s family, but mostly this is a book with almost no angst. No hurdles to overcome. Just funny smexy times and antics with the other couples.

It was a sweet interlude that moves the series forward and not much substance.

I liked it though it was not my favorite. I loved when Ira got to use his venom on the bad guys! I hope we get to see more of the half-shifting in future books. We also get to see Adan’s mate and I hope his story is soon.

This was another cute addition to the Whitedell Pride series.

Ira is a rather untrusting snake shifter who has been keeping an eye on Darin for the last few months, ever since discovering that the man is his mate. He’s bided his time, trying to decide if he can trust Darin, finding any excuse to visit the Whitedell Pride mansion, and he’s finally ready to make his move.

Darin is more than ready to meet his mate, but the trouble is he just doesn’t have the time to go out looking. Between working in his bakery and spending more time practicing his cupcake recipes, he’s kind of hoping that his mate is the one to do the finding. Which he does.

What I particularly loved about this story was the lack of back and forth between the two man characters. They’re both shifters, so they know how this mate business works. Before they even bother spending time to get to know each other they’re both ready and raring to mate. They know that they have the rest of their lives to learn about the other, so why muck about?

Of course there had to be some sort of conflict in the story, and while we still have the ongoing drama of the hunters, much of the conflict here came from Ira and Darin’s families. Ira’s family are elitist snakes that believe in purity of the species and Darin’s family are prey animals who are terrified of being around predators. They’re fairly certain that Ira is going to end up eating their son.

Ira’s skill at half shifting was pretty cool, and I hope we see more of that in coming stories. I was so glad that he had the opportunity to get fangy with the bad guys.

I was definitely hoping though, that this would be the book where Bradley was caught as the Pride’s traitor. I figured if anyone would suspect him then it would be the always suspicious Ira.

But, more important than any other aspect of this story – yes, more important than the romance or the time spent with the pride – was the ridiculously delicious sounding cupcakes that Darin created. I now have a craving that will not be ignored. This week I need to find some similar recipes and create some of his cakes. (Well, ok. I might be planning to do that but I’ll probably just swing past a bakery and save myself any baking tantrums.)

The next book in the series is Adan, one character that I’m sure many Whitedell fans have been hanging out for. And once again, don’t attempt to read this series out of order.

Sometimes you need to listen only to your heart rather than to what other people say.

Summary:
It seems like the misery caused by the scientists from the Glass Corporation continues to rear it's head as the victims try to get on with their lives. Ira knows that Darin is his mate and it is finally time for them to meet. Ira is already on his way with his friend Yanis to find out is Yanis could be Adan's mate, another victim of the Glass Corporation; which he was, but that story is for another time. Darin always wanted a mate and when he meets Ira he is thrilled, but the abuse Ira endured made him reluctant to trust and mates need to trust each other with everything they have. At first glance, one would think that Ira would be reluctant to engage in the frequent crazy antics of Nysys and Keenan, but his laughter and encouragement of their antics was n amazing surprise. Danger s never far from the Whitedell Pride and it may be just the thing that Ira and Darin need to see if their feelings for each other are as strong as their mating instinct.

The best part of Darin was, well... Darin.  If you don't remember, Darin is Shad's twin brother.  Shad found his mate in the part tiger/part-human (former full human) Gabriel who happens to be Adrien's brother. Adrien was the geneticist forced to work for the Glass research company. Clear as mud?  Yeah there are a LOT of connections in this series.  Heck, I have to refresh my memory often.

3.5 but rounded up b/c I love this series (and I'm sad that it'll be ending this year) but there are still plenty of stories to tell!

Also, this one has made me crave cupcakes! Especially the lavender and peppermint ones!

I enjoyed this...love the troublesome twosome as always, and now I really, really hope Trevor's story is next! I love that he kept leaving cupcakes for his mate.

As always, a fun installment in this series and I look forward to more!

The book wasn't bad exactly but usually you really get to know both mains and get attached to them but Darin was completely one dimensional. And the only time anything interesting was happening it was over in one page. The book felt like a fill in story leading to three other characters stories rather being it's own story.
