All her life artist Jayne Davis had believed in magic, but sometimes just believing isn't enough. When first her mother and then her father died Jayne retreated from life, taking the first job she was offered and leaving her dreams behind. Nowadays the only place she looks for magic is in the books she reads. But all that is about to change when a man who might be more than he seems brings the magic to her.
Cameron Murray believes in the magic too. He believes it ruins lives and he believes it has brought danger to Jayne's doorstep. It's up to him to keep her safe and make sure magic isn't the end of them both... and guard his heart from the one woman who could take it from him.
Cait Miller lives on the West Coast of Scotland in the same small town where she was born. She shares her home with a large collection of dragons and a miniature Yorkshire Terrier who has convinced the postman she's a Rottweiler. Cait dreams one day of living in a castle filled with history...or at least a house with a library.
Books and writing have played a huge part in Cait's life since she was very young. Encouraged by a mother with similar interests and one of the world's greatest English teachers, she began writing her own stories. Unfortunately she inherited a practical side to her nature from her grannie - who once told her at a party, in front of her teenage friends, to cross her legs not her fingers.
Cait went on to become one of the first people in her family to graduate from University where she trained for a medical profession. Writing became something she did for her own pleasure, never dreaming it could be anything else. Then, one day, she showed one of those stories to a group of online friends who taught her to Believe In The Magic...
If you are ever looking for Cait you only have to find the nearest quiet corner and she'll be there, book or pen in hand, wrapped up in another world.
"Finding the Magic" by Cait Miller was more of a romantica novel than erotica for me. There is lots of yummy sexual tension, and when the lead characters do have sex it's very very hot...but not really more than some of the mainstream novels I read.
Jayne believes in magic. She hasn't seen it, but she still believes in it. She's also tired of living her quiet boring life. When she attends her best and only friend's wedding, she meets the gorgeous, bad-tempered best man and they share a fireball of a kiss. Then he stomps off and now Jayne decides it's time to live again and to heck with bad-tempered hot guys.
Cameron believes in magic too. Mostly because he is a shape-shifter and as soon as he caught sight of Jayne, his mating heat kicked into high gear. It's too bad he decided never to take a mate, altho if he was, it would certainly be Jayne. To ensure his decision, he retreats to his 'castle' in the north. Then he finds out Jayne is in danger...
He's been hurt and so has she. The more time they spend together, the more obvious it is to Jayne that they have something special and the more obvious it is that he is hiding some very big differences...
I enjoyed this book. I'm going to hunt down the first book in this series "Believe in the Magic" and read it too! I'm also hoping she publishes the next one as there are some definite loose ends to be tied up...
Good read. Heroine has been drifting through life until her best friend [story 'Believe In the Magic':] meets someone and drops hints that he thinks he's a shapeshifter, something the best friend shrugs off when asked directly about it later. At the best friend's wedding she meets the hero and is immediately smitten - she also wonders if perhaps he's a shifter too... But the question seems moot as the guy seems to run the other way.
The hero is determined to stay as far as possible from the sexy heroine, his parents had a miserable bond and he has sworn never to become mated. Then he finds out that bad guy who has been kidnapping shifters has now started targeting potential mates as well and carries her off to his home to guard her. The romance continues with the inevitable tribulations along the way, the bad guy continues his evil machinations, hints that some of the previously kidnapped shifters might still be alive [especially Nick whose kidnapping is the plot driver in the first story:], we meet more shifters who provide potential fodder for more [as yet unwritten:] books, h/h are kidnapped by the requisite evil genius...
It's a quick read and definitely a different turn on the shifter mythos. Enjoyable.
Magic series 'Believe In the Magic' in Stray Magic Finding the Magic
Loved this one. Heroine believes in magic, but when actualy confronted with it takes her a little while to actually accept it. And the hero is magical (a shapeshifter), but he does not believe in the magic of love, due to a bad relationship his parents had. And from the first book in the series, you know him as a loner, though he seems quick to call in help when a kidnapper/killer of shapshifters targets them. There is that thrill of the kidnapper/killer aspect, and how it affects their growing relationship.
The book does set up a story for a sequal, with the rescue of a shapeshifter mentioned in both this and the previous book. And the others called in to help are also calling out for their own books. Need to know the background of some of those persons.
With a title like "Finding the Magic" I thought this a perfect October Halloween read. What I didn't expect was how enchanted I would become with the story. I won't reiterate the storyline as so many others did that well. I will say while a quick read, it was delightful. I loved the push-pull of the two leads; the slow romance building between the two. The erotic portions really took a backseat to the story and the building relationship between the two leads, which was refreshing. Our male lead being a shifter was unique and added whimsy and a touch of magic to a basic she met/he met romance. That they were soul-mates destined for each other simply enhanced the whimsy. The experimentation upon shifters portion of the storyline added a dash of mystery and action to the book as well as a way to push our leads to face their feelings. The ending just made me go 'aww' and then giggle as it seemed the perfect culmination of the story. I highly recommend reading this for a fun diversion from life.
Nice book, quick read, good continuation of a series. Typical romance plot of the guy with the bad parents who refuses to believe in love, and the girl who changes his mind. The evil professor trying to study him (did I mention he was a shapeshifter?), complete with evil henchmen and a friend in peril too (book 3). A very enjoyable read.
