I have no idea what the appeal of this series is. I don't think they are terribly well written, the heroine annoys me with her arrant stupidity, and they just stop - like old episodes of Doctor Who - waiting for you to buy the next book. And yet, come the next book, there I am with my dollars, waiting for more witchy crack.

Love these novella's, I think the cheapest way to read them is thru Amazon Unlimited, they are free on AU or 3.99 a piece in the store. It only takes a few hours to read each volume so for 9.99 you might be able to read all 21 in a month if you read for 40-60 hours that month.

Custard creams, peacocks, talent shows, fashionable catsuits, annoying relatives, murderers, knitting clubs, midnight buses....

And of course, blackmailing cats.

I need more Jack & Jill romance, though.

My favourite Cosy-mystery series. Always glad to be back into Jill's hilariously interesting life.

Wonderful as always. I find that at this point I’m suspicious of almost everyone in the book and wonder, if perhaps fleetingly, if any of them are TDO.

Such a fun series.

I really don’t know why I started this book, it must be a kind of disease that keeps me coming back to this series thinking it will be better this time. Unfortunately it’s not!

What happens?
A lot happens in this book.
Starts off with a few murders in Mrs V's knitting circle. Then it goes on to a murder at a near by cafe which has her grandmother in a flap. Looking into why Jack Maxwell has been suspended as Jack hasn't heard anything in weeks so Jill takes matters into her own hands and then she is asked to investigate robberys on a bus going between Candlefield and Washbridge.
Final thoughts
Fuck off Kathy
“It’s in a couple of days’ time,” Kathy said. “Don’t you remember, Auntie Jill? You asked me to get you a ticket. You are still going, aren’t you?” I gave her a look. She’d never mentioned a talent competition—I would have remembered.

This was a good read. The 3 cases (ish) kind of threw me for a loop. I did enjoy the difference in the cases though, that was interesting but keeping track of who was who was difficult.
I'm also getting a little bored of Amber and Pearl, those situations just sucked? However this was as good as a #10 in a series book could be expected!!

This one was cute. I don't like how in many of them its just all of a sudden an "Aha" moment that leads to Jill solving the case. This one was no different. In this one, 2 members of the knitting group show up dead. It ends up being one of the husbands who did it. There's also a mystery on the train that goes from Candlefield to Washbridge-- people ride the train and by the time they get there their wallets have been stolen and they have no idea how. You find out that the driver is gassing everyone and stealing their stuff when they're sleeping. Jill continues to prepare for an eventual meeting with TDO. She is wondering if it's her dad...
As for the love life, Jack is depressed because he's suspended from work. Drake is living in Washbridge so he's around more often, but nothing has really happened there either.
I'll probably keep reading for a few more books and then take a break. I'd still recommend these for sure!

Delightful series!

I like the wisecracking, pun loving protagonist very much. She gets away with things that we can’t in the human world! I look forward to antics from Jill’s cat, the trouble she gets into, and the cast of characters that have become like friends. A cozy mystery for those that enjoy a supernatural mystery without all the gratuitous sex and violence. Also, this is well edited.

I really do love these books and could listen to them one after the other.

Jill's life is rather silly at times. She gets a job offer which I wish she would take.... She never sorts out her love life.

Great Betty storyline. The crimes are good.

We don't see enough of Grandma in this one, which is a massive shame. Nor Barry.

Number ten in the continuing saga of Jill Gooder, private investigator and novice witch. If this were a TV series, it would either be a soap opera or a "dramedy" because there are elements of both drama and humor in each episode.

Witch is When I Said Goodbye: A Witch P.I. Mystery 10
Chronological order recommended.

In A Nutshell: Jill Gooder is a witch who is a Private Eye.
If you read my reviews you will know that she has the most irritating 🐶 and rude 🐱. Even her twin cousins Amber and Pearl get on my last nerve. But there is something addictive about this series.

Perhaps because it asks so little of the reader, I keep going back for more. What can I say? I'm an addict.

A short read, light relief, fun and at times choppy story telling but the grammar is good and the characters get under your skin.

Another Fun Read But Not Quite As Satisfying

I liked this book almost as much as the others. There was a little less of Jill's horrible human sister, Kathy and her awful kids but there were several unfinished storylines. Jill solves a near impossible murder case in a cafe and contacts the police but that's it. No follow up at all. Was she acknowledged by the police or in the news? Then Jill figured out who was framing Jack but again nothing more. Is Jack off suspension? Jill also solves the mystery of how passengers on the midnight bus from Washbridge to Candlefield are being robbed without any memory of what happened. Aside from a grudging thanks from Maxwell nothing more happens. Jill is getting more confident with her spells and that's nice to see. She indirectly hears that her grandmother is proud of her but of course never from her grandmother. I'm ready to start the next book which I hope will clear up some of these blanks spaces.

Really enjoyed!

Really enjoyed this book. It was definitely a bit deeper than the last one. I liked the investigations in this one too. I have no idea what the title relates to, whether it was Mrs V going to look after her sister, I'm not sure. Bit odd. I hope she's back soon though as she is a great character. Jill's reaction to her father's reappearance was a bit strange. She didn't really give him a chance to explain himself fully and why he was worried about her. She was so dismissive I wondered why she had bothered calling him in the first place. To assume he is TDO came out of left field but I will eat my words if he is! I'm more suspicious of Drake. Right, off to download Book 11. Just one more thing, I do think each book could have been made longer to reduce the series. Thirty books is an extremely large collection but once you start you have to keep going!

Book ten in this series. A date that doesn't go well, a guy cheated on a car, yet another shop opens in direct competition to her family's businesses while problems still exist for Amber and Pearl.

Winky blackmails Jill (yet again). There's a threatening package, an angry ghost and more problems with Amber and Pearl. There's a murdered loan shark and TDO seems to be planning to kill her soon.

The same thing over and over. Amber and Pearl can't get their acts together, Winky continues to sponge off of her and undermine her (she should have taken him to a cat shelter long ago) and she never actually gets very far at all romantically.

I think the series would be at least tolerable if she got rid of Winky and cut down on the number of characters. There's just too many characters to carry this type of book.

A much better book than previous stories

A limit on bad puns, Winky & family interactions means more time spent on mysteries. Too many mysteries. They seem to be sprouting like grass everywhere her friends go. Does Jill even get paid, since she's often asked by friends to help out? Ah well, there's another mystery. One thing is for certain, Washbridge and Candlefield are two crime riddled towns with the least competent police force ever. Good thing Jill's around to solve things with tea and custard creams.

Okay, I know it's not the last book in the series, but it's the last one for me, for sure. It was good books, light ones, with a good humour and characters, but the plot is going nowhere and I feel tired of them.
This one is 3,5/5 for me. Same problems.
But I don't think it was a waste of time, I enjoyed these 10 books. Thank you, Jill, Amber, Pearl, Aunt Lucy, Grandma, Mrs V and Winky for this journey.
Thank you, Adele Abbot.

She bounces back-and-forth solving mysteries in both while trying to live her life and learn more about her which powers. A very entertaining supernatural series

I really enjoyed this one. Finally, there was more focus on the crimes than Jill´s personal troubles :D But as I was complaining the last I missed more crime, that there was only Jill and her personal life, this time I actually missed more of Candlefield, Jack, I even missed Grandma :D but still, it was a great one, I liked the crimes.

This is a perfect series to read with 7th and 8th-grade girls who struggle with reading. They are finally interested in reading. PG romance, magic and mystery - all there in these books I read them on my kindle and have 5 copies of each book that they get to keep. Fortunately, my copy is kindle unlimited and my local book store helps out with the cost of the copies.

This may be interesting to someone who’s into this kind of thing.

Somewhat disjointed narrative. The original idea of a PI Between two worlds is fine. Unfortunately there’s just too much going on.

Fun

Beginning to worry because some of Jill's habits, likes, dislikes, etc. mirror some of mine. I also say funny things (to me) that produce strange looks on others' faces.

Am enjoying the series. The teasers at the end of each book makes me ready for the next one.
