And now, the long-awaited TENDER, Book 1 in The Trelawneys of Williamsburg Series:

Rachel Sheppard is running from a forgotten past. She arrives in Colonial Williamsburg with her best friend, Camisha, and soon learns that the man who raised her has been keeping a dark secret from her for twenty years and blackmailing Camisha. Now, he'll do everything to stop Rachel from revealing his secret. An endearing couple dressed in colonial clothing shelter the young women at Rosalie, an historic estate that was once a tobacco plantation. That evening, while a thunderstorm crashes outside, she hears the legends of Rosalie, including the story of Grey Trelawney and his young daughter Emily, who died at a fire at Rosalie in the 18th century.

As she dresses for bed, she looks out the window and finds a little girl - Emily Trelawney - begging for her help. Could the child be a ghost? She races after the child into the ruins of the original plantation house, and as lightning strikes, she collapses. She awakens in the arms of Grey Trelawney, the wealthy plantation owner who has a dark secret of his own. She learns that secret when she discovers that Camisha, too, has traveled back to the year 1746 - with disastrous results.

Will Rachel ever remember what happened in her childhood that wiped away her most treasured memories? How can a man as contemptible as Grey not only awaken in her the most tender passions, but also hold the key to restoring those memories? Can she prevent the fire that killed both the man and the child she now loves? How can she keep Camisha safe in a time and place so dangerous for her?

This latest steamy time-travel romance from Anne Meredith is a sweeping drama of treachery, friendship, and redemption, set on a backdrop of forbidden love and overflowing with the history of the era. It will take you away, make you think, and leave you hungry for Book Two in The Trelawneys of Williamsburg Series by Anne Meredith.

Loved it, loved it, loved it. VERY highly recommended to all interested in Time Travel
Wow! What a great book. This is a very in depth book, full of twists and turns and
has its own HEA even though it is the start of a series. I couldn't believe the ending,
it certainly wasn't what I expected. I had real trouble putting it down and read it all
night to find out what happened. Two of my favourite genres are time travel and romance,
and this book had them both in spades, together with a lot of American history. This
would honestly have to be the best time travel book I have ever read and I highly
recommend this book to everyone. If you love time travel you have to read this book and
the rest of the series. VERY well written, a joy to read. I now have a new author to
follow.

Starting with the story of two best friends, sisters of the heart: Rachel and Camisha have been inseparable for years. Having learned that her adoptive father has been hiding a dark secret and is blackmailing her best friend for years. She’s got to find answers to questions about her childhood that she can’t remember, and the one constant that will help and support her in this search is Camisha.

Arriving in Williamsburg, the two find themselves at Rosalie, an historic plantation, looking for somewhere to stay. The couple that manages the visitor center in period clothing, offer them shelter, and share with them some of the history of the home and its tragedies during a particularly wild thunderstorm. When Rachel finds herself exploring the ruins of the plantation house in search of the young child she believes she saw, she awakes in the arms of the owner, in 1746. Worse yet, her best friend Camisha has also been brought back in time with potentially disastrous results as she is African American.

Meredith uses wonderful insets of historical fact and customs to set the stage here: with Grey Trewlawney being very much a successful man of his time. Successful plantation owner, well-respected but for one dark moment, with a young daughter and, as Rachel knows, a future that will result in their death in a fire. Building the plantation, the differences between then and now are clearly shown as Rachel and Grey start a tentative courtship, as pieces and clues from her life seem to resonate forward into the present. While Grey and Rachel are coming to terms with their relationship, and she with the very real presence of slavery on the plantation and in this time: Camisha is experiencing her own struggles with her new, and vastly constrained, position. As a slave, and unfamiliar with the expectations of behavior and demeanor expected of her, she’s been repeatedly punished and abused: a first for her but commonplace in the time.

Anne Meredith balanced the horrors of Camisha’s life in the time jump, as we see Rachel explaining, cajoling and pressing Grey to make changes, even as she takes efforts to protect and shelter her friend. It was a story that carried the feel of the time beautifully, even as the moments moved from graphic and disturbing to poignant and revelatory as Rachel begins to see the genesis of the secrets of her family, held for so long. Discovering that the person you view as a sister, and in every way your equal is less than human: both from society’s view and integral to the life and wealth of the man you are coming to feel for was an interesting dilemma and source of conflict for Rachel, especially as her memories start to reveal her past, her parents’ murders and the two sisters she never knew. More importantly, she need to discover and realize the reasons she was pulled back to the eighteenth century, and what that means for her life in her own time.

Engaging and thoughtful, Tender is a title like no others I have read, mixing historic fiction, romance, conflict and suspense into a story redolent with time, place and emotion.

I received an eBook copy of the title from the author for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Read a Time travel book after a long time... i love to read Timetravel novels & if the settings are in the historical era's nothing like it... I liked Tender by Anne... It is set in 1746...This story has a lot ofsurprises, twists, turns, mystery , suspense , Romance , sizzling chemistry , slavery issues ...u name it & all the elements to make a book successful...This is book one in " Trelawneysof Williamsburg " series ... it can be read as a standalone ...

This series is a story of three sisters seperated in childhood due to dire happenings ... " Tender "is the story of the eldest sister Rachel who was adopted... rachel has forgotten the 1st 6 years of her life....while on a visit to Colonial Williamsburg ,Rachel is transported back in time to 1746. She wakes in the arms of Grey Trelawney wealthy owner of the plantation Rosalie ...also unknown to her, Camisha her best friend has also been brought back in time ....

How Rachel & Grey deal with there relationship, thinking , circumstances as they both come from different time periods is beautifully portrayed by Anne ... the revelations, struggles , injustice faced by people of that time brliiantly compared by the author Anne in this time travel book showing both sides ... only drawback was the book was too lengthy , descriptive so sometimes the link was being broken with the actual story ...

overall a delightful read ...the adventure of time travel is wonderful in itself... The characters very interesting ...well written ,presented story...the plot is well developed & so captivating that now i am reading the 2nd book in this series which presents Rachel's middle sister Merrilea 's story ... i highly Recommend this book if want to enjoy ,know the thrill of timetravel ...also Anne has done a marvellous job of research on American history ...its quite intereseting

Tender by Anne Meredith is book that defies being pegged into one genre. It combines history, time travel, mystery and romance. Tender is the story of Rachel Sheppard and her best friend Camisha Carlyle. Orphaned at a young age Rachel can't remember anything of her life before she was adopted by Max Sheppard. Sheppard is a cruel, distant and controlling man who never showed any love to Rachel. Virtually raised by his housekeeper, Camisha's mother, Rachel has done everything she can to break away from her adoptive father. Rachel knows that something horrible happened to her before being adopted and believes Sheppard had something tl do with it but no one will tell her anything.

While on a business trip to Colonial Williamsburg Rachel and Camisha are catapulted back in time to 1746. They both adapt as best they can and Rachel begins to remember her past when she meets Grey Trelawney.

I absolutely loved this book. The overlapping storylines are well developed and intertwine in a clear concise manner. The book pulls the reader into a world of the past and paints both a lovely and horrible picture of it in a truthful manner.

Character development is excellent. The reader gets to know and care for the main characters. Also, the author made history and Williamsburg both living breathing characters. Although there are pieces of that history which are shameful the reader is guided to also see the positive and how much of American history is something to take pride in. It's a refreshing message in the midst of today's overabundance of political correctness.

The book is an easy read and the storyline is so interesting I found myself losing track of time. I know it's cliche but I couldn't put it down.

I highly recommend this book to lovers of history, mystery and romance. I loved it and have every intention of reading the rest of the series.

I received an ARC copy of this book and reviewed it of my own free will.

I got all that in one sentence wow!! Now, this is book you cannot put down! Oh by the way it is a time travel too. Love the writing, the characters this was an outstanding piece of work. I cannot wait to start the second book

This is a superb time travel story set in colonial America

Rachel is adopted and has blanked most of her early life from her memories and it will take a trip back through time to get them back. Not only she will travel back her best friend will travel with her but her journey will be a hard one it will be no easy journey to be African American in a time of slavery. Will Grey the man she has come to love help her to get her past back and will she be able to save him and his daughter from the fire that killed them in history. Rachel will have to rethink about what is acceptable when she isn't in her time

Such a gem!

I'm a huge fan of time travel books, yet this brought tears to my eyes. Different from most, two best friends from childhood end up in colonial Williamsburg. The main character Rachel the night she lands in the past, had just learned her father isn't truly her father. She'd actually blocked the first part of her childhood out. She knew he'd adopted her, but had no clue the man he was. Would she ever learn the truth of her past? Shockingly she would...however it took ending up hundreds of years in the past for these grief stricken memories to return. It's a long journey to the truth, and lots happens along the way. Her best friend and sister if her heart also lands in the past. Sadly the transition was far worse for Camisha as she's African American. Suffice to say her landing in a time where slavery was rife was not a fun thing. Rachel had no clue she didn't travel alone....by the time she finds her sister she's near unrecognizable from a vicious beating by the overseer. Many trials and tribulations occur. Very interesting people are met along the at, including two who seem to manage time itself. I'm guessing we might learn more about these two in future books. If you're a fan of American history, romance or time travel then I beg you to read this book. It has so much heart on its pages. I can't wait for the next book in this amazing series. This author is definitely on my must read list from here on.

A great book about time traveling to Colonial America!

When it comes to time traveling books I tend to be a little skeptical on how it will end. In Tender, I was wonderfully pleased with the outcome. This book covered topics such as slavery, abuse, a murder trial, faithfulness and honor.
Rachel and Grey were both such down to earth, realistic characters who both have their flaws and imperfections. Same goes for Camisha, Rachel's best friend who is black. Her character and passions lends so much depth and personality to the whole novel. Her intelligence and knowledge of history also helps her solve a framing of a murder on Grey.
It is a historical romance so the development in Grey's and Rachel's relationship was heart warming to see blossom. She is from the 21st century so she obviously has strong objections to things Grey does for a living, like owning slaves and bringing them to America from other countries.
There is also the fact that Rachel is slowly regaining her memory about her past. She remembers her parents, who were murdered and the fact that she has two younger sisters. Not to mention, trying to discover why she traveled back in time. All I can really say is this book was a spectacular read!

Rachel has been taught that "it's all about the money" from her adoptive father. She has flashes from a young life.
She and her best friend, Camisha, are sent back in time. Of course Rachel is skeptical. They each learn something they needed to know. Rachel eventually reclaims her suppressed memories. In the end, Rachel returns to her time. She is befret from losing her one true love.

How do you go forward when your heart is in the past? How do you fill the hole that is there?

I simply couldn't get enough of this story.

Good

There were great times in this book and then not so much. I was wanting a beautiful love story which I got. But with slavery, murder and rape. That's why this book gets a 3 1/2 stars.

Tender is a book that will transport your mind and your heart into the past. You will love, hate, laugh, smile, and cry. It will tear you apart emotionally, but at the end you will have a new appreciation for the past. This book is a must read for people who love romance.

Interesting

I chose this title based on a recommendation in FB comment by a group member in an Outlander group I participate in. The premise of the story was interesting and while it took me a bit to get into the story, I did finish.
The beginning was stilted and took some time for me to get the characters sorted. Once I had that the reading flowed better but not as smooth as I expect. There were several typos and wrong words in the Kindle edition that threw off sentences.
Once I got beyond those glitches I did enjoy the story and I’ll read books 2 and 3 to get a full flesh out of the series.

I have not always been a fan of time travel books as sometimes the characters sometimes act as if it was current time. This story definitely addresses this as each of the two main characters have to deal with their travel back in time very differently. Rachel and her best friend Camisha are in Colonial Williamsburg for a business trip and they end up traveling back in time. Characters from the present and the past have issues to resolve. This was a very interesting story and I plan to read the next one in the series. Has history and suspense so a great read.

I liked the characters in this book. I liked the story. I didn’t really like the words. It was a little too wordy. It was not as easily readable as some authors’ books are and I had to go back and re-read over sentences at times. I also disliked the author’s use of throat so often when I think neck would’ve been better, but that’s a small quibble. It was an enjoyable story overall. I’m not sure I’ll read the next two in the series though. I received this book for free for providing a review.

This had an interesting concept, but it felt as if there too many ideas being crammed into one book so none of them were explored fully. And the deviant practices of some of the characters...why? Just why? I felt it detracted from the story.

Overall I'm a little disappointed. What could have been a wonderful story of colonial America was sullied by things that were unnecessary to the story.

Firstly I have to say that this is not your typical time travel story, it is well written and has some very good points to it but I thought it a little overly wordy in places. I like the story overall and will continue to read the books in this series. I live in the UK so do not know the place the book was set but the descriptive writing made me feel that I did.

A strong plot and some good old-fashioned (or is it new fangled?) time travel makes a story sing. The first book sets up the plot beautifully for the other books and the other stories that need to be told.

Rachel Sheppard learns that her father has been keeping dark secrets from her for twenty years while visiting Colonial Williamsburg with her best friend Camisha. Rachel has no memory of the first six years of her life before she was adopted. While visiting Colonial Williamsburg Rachel and Camisha meet up with a couple that give them a place to stay at Rosalie; the home of the Trelawneys in 1746 that use to be a tobacco plantation. The couple tells them stories about the lives of the Trelawneys and the people who lived at Rosalie in 1746.

Sometime during the night Rachel and Camisha are transported back in time to 1746. Rachel wakes to see a small child, a girl running around out in the storm and goes to help her and then she wakes in the arms of Grey Trelawney.

In the beginning Rachel has no idea that Camisha has traveled back in time with her until she sees a young woman being beaten by the overseer of the Rosalie plantation. Camisha has been beaten so badly that Rachel hardly recognizes her. During her stay at Rosalie in 1746 Rachel starts to remember her past but she only gets bits and pieces of it at a time.

Tender is an unforgettable read one that will stay with me long after I have read the last page. I first fell in love with stories like this when I first read Roots and Gone with the Wind. I loved traveling back in time with Rachel and Camisha and finding out about Rachel’s past and her family.

If I could travel back in time this would be one of the time periods I would love to visit to experience life on a plantation and to see how they lived back then. Anne Meredith did a remarkable job of describing the life and times of the people in the 18th century. Rachel and Camisha are two wonderful people with great big hearts and would do anything to help make someone else’s’ life better and safer not matter the cost to their own.

Would I recommend Tender? Yes definitely to anyone who loves a good story and historical fiction, romance or would maybe like to be transported back in time.
