Join Mitch and Dev as they head across the globe in pursuit of a deadly pathogen that has fallen into the wrong hands. From the boreal forest of Sweden to the jungles of Indonesia, the two warriors must pool all of their skills to overcome an adversary bent on releasing a virus that can level humanity.
Counter-Strike is Book 2 of the Mitch Kearns Combat Tracker Trilogy by J. T. Sawyer. This action, adventure series begins with a kidnapping. The kidnapped biochemist’s wife approaches Mitch and asks him to use his resources to track down her husband. She feels the U. S. government is being less than candid with the details of the abduction. Mitch and his girlfriend, Dev, who has now become the head of her father’s security company, named Gideon, track down the biochemist and become embroiled in an international conspiracy. The conspiracy is vast and could involve a bio-terrorist attack with apocalyptic repercussions. Fun story, with very little (not enough) characterization. The characters all seem onenote and although the story is entertaining, the story is typical of the genre and not wholly original. These action, adventure narratives focus so much on pacing that exposition, character-development, location setting all are sacrificed for a quick climax. Still and all, a fun read worthy of a couple of hours.
I have read books 1-3 as a boxed set. My review of the set is as follows:
The Mitch Kearns Combat Thriller Series combines well written characters with thrilling action, and brings forth tracking and survival skills.
Mitch Kearns is a former Army Special Forces tracker turned FBI Tracker and survival instructor in the US Southwestern District.
At the end of a FBI mission, Mitch returns to his bunkhouse on a friend's ranch only to find Devorah (Dev) Leitner on his doorstep trying to avoid being captured and/or killed by a typical megalomaniac trying to take over the world through supporting oppressive third world dictators.
Thus begins book one. In subsequent books two and three, the connection between Mitch and Dev grows while other equally bad antagonists "bite the dust."f
This is the second book in the series. This is not the usual genre of books that I read, but I have found that Mitch is an appealing protagonist. He is meticulous in preparation and execution of his objectives and he gives great forethought to everything he undertakes. This time, he is teaching man tracking in Tel Aviv, mostly to be close to Dev, when he gets an SOS from the wife of an old friend in the States. Her husband has gone missing and she wants Mitch to find him. Dev has been struggling to run her father's company and hates spending time in the office, so she decides to go along and help. Mitch already knows how competent she is, so it is agreed. The story moves on from there. I think you will enjoy yourself with this story. I certainly did.
A world of Black Ops and Spies distinguished by its body count and high tech “toys”. Mitch teams up with his Israeli Mossad Agent Dev combining business and pleasure.
It is interesting to note that this book was written before the pandemic. There are four separate sets of players in this storyline and it is left to the reader to decide the who and where as each chapter begins.
As the book unfolds the four narratives collide in a jungle hideout in South East Asia. Expect gunfire and explosions.
'Counter-Strike' was a great addition to a fantastic series. I knew this adventure was going to be awesome. Full of action, suspense, secrets, thrilling scenarios and a great story line. The characters were great. Mitch and Dev work so well together. I love their chemistry. They aren't forcing anything, and allowing themselves to get to know each other on a different level. I look forward to reading more. A great add to your tbr list.
Having read Sawyer’s latest novels, I just discovered this series from a decade ago when the author was still finding his feet. It’s not bad, just average, with a villain that delivers speeches similar to Silva from James Bond Skyfall. The action is consistent throughout however and I’ll keep reading the rest.
Such a compelling book. I was addicted to the characters, The story was brilliantly written. I rarely read such books, this grabbed my attention and never let me go!
Counter-Strike is a excellent read. J.T. Sawyer has developed a couple of excellent characters and has placed them in some interesting plots. thus, making for some very enjoyable reading. I look forward to the rest of the series.
Mitch Kearns used to work for the government. Now he teaches Israelis how to track. But a friend of his gets kidnapped and he and his girlfriend (kinda) try to track down who has him. Lots of shooting and things blowing up. First time reading this author and I look forward to more of his books.
Another non-stop action story from JT. With so much action and such interesting characters, I did not put this down until I finished it. The good news is that I have book 3 and 4 in my reading queue and book 5 is pre-ordered.
Mitch takes an assignment to train Israeli special units in tracking and survival, he is also hoping to have time with Dev as well to explore the feelings between them. His first attempt, dinner at a nice secluded place goes badly when the unit tracking him heads right into town, something he hadn't thought would happen. Then a call from an old friends wife, her husband has gone missing and she needs help finding him. Mitch's friend while a college professor also sidelines for the CIA, a specialist in biochemical warfare. As they race to find him they discover a bigger plot, one that could destroy thousands of lives. This is another great story, it flows and keeps your attention. No surprises or newly learned skills just a well written story that leaves you hungry for more.
Counter Strike by JT Sawyer ( Mitch Kearns CT book #2)
Mitch and Dev take on a rogue element to eliminate a serious threat involving bio-terrorism. Once again the pages will keep you following their every move as they trace the threat from Europe to Indonesia. Sawyer weaves a great read and gives nothing away. Thanks for another great read.
Action thriller in spades as the previous tales were. Good flow and intertwined lines which neatly dovetailed into a smooth ending. Good lead to the next of the series for which I will wait.
Enjoyed the story, the plot and the characters. There were a few grammar mistakes, but still I highly recommend this to anyone who likes a good action story.
