I thoroughly enjoyed reading THE CANDIDATE. What a good time to release this book with so much going on in the Presidential race. The candidates in the book have lots of secrets ramping up the intrigue and suspense. But it was intrigue and suspense that would only affect reputations and votes, with no violence, death, horror, etc. like so many novels these days….thank you very much! It’s refreshing to read a well-written book by someone who knows a thing or two about political races and writes authentically. There were plot twists all along the way to keep my attention and surprises around every corner. Thank you, Skye Taylor for this novel. I received this book as an Advance Reader Copy in exchange for an honest review.

Presidential candidate Matt Steele could be the White House occupant we all wish for, running a strong campaign with a platform the country sorely needs. An adversary falls due to a scandal. The last challenger is drooling for similar dirt on Steele. Then Steele's past comes back to meet him in a way he never imagined, via a photograph and a stranger. In a time when an honest candidate is almost a myth, Steele has the option of being true to his past, or saving his political career, but who will be hurt in the process? An enjoyable read that will renew your sense of patriotism. Just what we need in times like these.

I think this is the best political novel I have have read and enjoyed. It is fast paced, intriguing and I finished it one sitting. Literally could not put it down. It follows three partys' candidates run for President.

Matt Steele is the hero we need, not the one we deserve. This book is a great political thriller with lots of intrigue and suspense. It wouldn't be politics without scandals and skeletons in the closet. The protagonist must make a choice between the politically expedient and the morally correct. With a well written plot and dialogue, the pages practically turn themselves. A very enjoyable read.

I really wasn't sure what I was walking into with this story. Being the black sheep of my family on the political spectrum I tend to avoid books and discussions revolving around politics, but Skye Taylor's novel managed to capture my attention quite well. The novel is about the people, not the politics, which helped ease me into the narrative rather than make my hackles rise.

I did have one complaint, which is why the book stands at 4 stars instead of 5, and that is the interview near the end. Everything seemed to be leading up to that interview, the moment of truth for our Hero of the story, but we don't actually get to see it. We only get to see the aftereffects of it. I was honestly looking forward to that interview. I was nervous with our Candidate. And then ... I didn't get to see it.

The novel is still quite enjoyable, even without the interview portion, and I'm glad to have been able to read it.

The book is a well-written tale that takes you through the ins and outs of a presidential campaign. Both candidates had enough hidden secrets to make me want to keep reading straight through to the surprise and action-filled ending. The characters are believable and the interaction between them makes the story engaging. Highly recommended.

In an era of screaming politicians who don't seem to have much integrity, It was nice to read about a man who did. Skye Taylor reminds us that serving the people should be the goal of every elected official. Too bad they seem to have forgotten this basic truth. This was an entertaining read that held my attention from start to finish.
