The way we react to the circumstances Life throws at us shapes our journey. For Hadley, an instance at the start of her adult life has been haunting her the whole way. And now she is returning home with her heart heavy. Her life definitely did not turn out the way she had planned. (life rarely does) Not only is she freshly divorced, but she has to face the ghosts of her past, and the reason she left home to begin with...Max Brandon. Max is only too happy to see his Hadley return and only too willing to correct the errors that long ago made her run. After all of these years they are going to find out if forgiveness is an option....if love is strong enough to heal...if forever is written in their stars.
Sarah Brocious was born into a steadily growing family. She is one of eight siblings. Growing up in a "crowded" home gave her a great need to slip away for some time alone. In those times she chose to read or write. She found no greater joy than creating stories. This desire continued to grow but as does often happen...life got in the way. Her love for writing did not diminish. It was pushed aside for a time. Now she has decided to put her "need to" aside and give into the want to.
This is the second book of Brocious's that I've read. And again I'm reminded of how comforting and crazy they can make me feel. We have the sweet protagonist, who is also at times bold. I found myself shouting, "Stop!" And then feeling completely fine a moment later. And seriously, reading this author's books is like tucking in for a home cooked meal. You'll feel excited, comforted, and then full with happiness. Another great book. Loved.
"The perfect peace was broken, but it was not displeasing to my ears. These were the sounds you should hear in summer."
"Ghosts from the past will attack a person's nervous system and mine was all jacked."
"I was so proud of how inwardly all systems had gone haywire, but outwardly I remained calm."
For Hadley, life should not have turned out the way it did. But one misunderstanding and lack of communication sends her into the arms of another. After eight years of heartache and an abusive marriage, Hadley is headed home to try to put the pieces of her life back together and figure out where she goes from here. But in doing so, she has to face the ghost of her past. Face the one who sent her running in the first place. Face the one who, no matter what, she just cannot stop loving. Max.
Max has never stopped loving Hadley. She has been, and always will be, his one and only. He was broken when she left him. After she married Logan, he knew he needed to try to move on as well. But his own marriage only lasted a short time. Now a single dad to the adorable 4 year old Mady, he will do whatever it takes to win Hadley back and make her his forever.
Watching Max and Hadley reconnect was really sweet! You could tell they both were still in love with each other. They just needed to work a few things out before they could move forward with their future. I absolutely loved Max! He was so quick to forgive and start fresh. His thoughts were he had his Hadley back and anything else could be worked out along the way.
I am a sucker for lost love and second chance books and this one did not disappoint! It was fun! I am looking forward to the next book in this series. :)
Content for my squeaky clean read friends: Mild language and innuendo. There is one scene that can be skipped over. :)
And of course I cannot forget my casting! I really like this one! I know... I know... I say that all the time but it's true! ;) Hehe.
One mistake, one like, one misunderstanding and a life is changed forever, but, maybe not. Can a seed of love buried beneath all that, blossom again? A beautiful tale of innocence lost and what remains. You will be charmed.
Wonderful story. I wish this novella was a full length novel because I wanted more of Max and Hadley. There were so many bitter-sweet moments in this book.
Hadley returned home after her life fell apart and found that something much better was waiting for her. She had let mistakes and misconceptions cloud her as a young girl. Her eyes were opened quickly and she had to deal with the consequences of her decisions.
Max Brandon's character was strong and so real. Single dad, rough past, misunderstood, and waiting for the girl of his dreams to come home. READ THE PROLOGUE! I loved his take. It brought me to tears.
This book will leave you with the belief that there is love strong enough to weather the bad times in our lives. And, that love may dim, but it never fades.
This was such a wonderful story! It was sweet beyond words.
Hadley: lost, listless, and wounded, but by the end of this story, her life did a 180.
Max: patient, forgiving and dreamy and he got his hearts desire by the end.
What a connection these two had. It came off the pages so beautifully. I loved the insinuation of Hadley feeling 18 again. Romance should always make you feel young and care-free! I wanted to take a trip in the Shelby with Max just to feel a little of what Hadley felt. LOVED this book!
This is the third book I have read from this author. It's not my favorite of the three, but I really did enjoy it. It was sweet and beautifully written.
Goodness! This story touched on many things I have personally experienced. The idea that life could work out like this should give us all great hope. It was amazing. I want more.
I love this second chance story. The young love gone awry. The anise of a narcissist. And the slow and steady devotion of a true love. With great chemistry!
Read in 1 sitting. It was very short and predictable. In fact, the end of the book had some sections which didn't really make sense and I think maybe it was rushed. For example a new character would speak and they weren't even in the scene. Overall, nothing special.
I’d probably lean towards 2.5 for this one. It was a quick romantic fix, but it had some problems. First, there was an incredibly large amount of distracting editing issues—misspelled words, omitted/added words, spacing, etc. Irritating! Second, the issue that separated the two to begin with seemed REALLY silly and like something that should have been very easily resolved when it first happened—and the heroine came across as a total idiot because of this :( Third, there were a lot of inexplicable details that were never really explained—for example, why on earth would Hadley not have even seen her family for 8 years?! Was she living on another continent or something?! Not to mention, why would NO ONE have tried to resolve the ridiculous issue that had sent her away earlier? And why on earth would she EVER have believed Logan, let alone left with him and married him?! It made NO sense—possibly because this character (Logan) was never really fleshed out well and Hadley came across as a ridiculous idiot (especially at the time she left town). And, finally, the renewal of the relationship between the couple seemed too easy—except for an inexplicable separation right after which, again, made NO sense :(
But, despite all this, I did like the couple and the sweet romance. I also liked the characters and the town setting.
I don’t remember any vulgar language in this book—a little swearing, but nothing too offensive. It was actually a pretty clean read—just a bit of kissing, a little making out, and some mild innuendo.
