The government makes the Peacekeepers an offer. Help us perfect our space drive system that’s similar but more powerful than your own so we can replace our failing satellites, and we’ll outfit your fleet with our upgrades. This would remedy the crippling altitude disadvantages the Peacekeepers must deal with when fighting conventional warplanes. The Peacekeeper scientists rise to the occasion. Soon, the Athens is being refitted and her crew trained for their first mission in orbit. However, the Russians are also racing to get into space for reasons of their own, and their plans don’t bode well for America that is still struggling to recover from the plague.
