I am glad I read this book. I had never really thought about the number of verses in the Bible that address both salvation and healing. The author really opened my eyes about this. However, Dr. Cherry left me frustrated. What of children who get cancer and their parents and their churches pray? It seemed like Dr. Cherry advocated that if you understood specifics about your illness and prayed against them (in addition to following a doctor's orders) believing, you would be healed. It felt a little abundance theology. I believe God blesses us abundantly, but I struggle with the belief that, "Prayer is the divine key that unlocks God's pathway of healing in both the natural and supernatural realms of life." I fear that those who believe this, and are not healed or their loved ones are not healed, will lose their faith. I liked all the verses Dr. Cherry ended with, and I appreciated his honest sharing of his own faith journey. I would like to have a provider like Dr. Cherry who incorporates the spiritual, physical, and emotional including alternative medicine in care.
3.5. Helpful in building my faith for healing, as well as equipping me in praying for others and for myself. While I do have some questions regarding a few biblical references Cherry provides (as well as some of the people he mentions as mentors), I see and appreciate his basic premise here. God desires to heal, and has many different pathways to healing, which include supernatural healing, healing through natural substances (both traditional and alternative) and a combination of both. He is clear in his biblical basis for instantaneous healing as well as healing "as we go on our way" (healing over time, as we follow his guidance for healing). He doesn't address the common question of "what about when we don't see healing?" Definitely an important missing component. A quick and accessible read.
I thought this book provided practical application of healing as well as a lot of food for thought. Will definitely be using some of Dr. Cherry’s advice in my own life!
