Bound by blood. Bound by loyalty. Bound by love.

Florian has it all: excellent fashion sense, a kickass job with his best friend, and a hard-won place among Silverton’s werewolves. When a pack of females pads into their territory, Flo’s alpha dispatches him to handle a merger. Total cakewalk. Except Keely, their alpha, has no intention of submitting her wolves to Flo's larger pack. Worse, a single glance from her baby blues sends his eloquence on vacation and his heartbeat into overdrive. His flirtations seem welcome too, but there's a snag. She doesn’t know he’s a vampire.

While Flo struggles with his conflicts—obey his alpha or win over Keely—his estranged sire blasts into town with a catalog of radical ideas. And hanging out with unsophisticated werewolves didn't make the list.

With violence in the air and all sides testing his loyalties, Florian must bite back, even if showing his fangs costs him the girl.

I adored Florian when I met him in the first book, Guarded. He’s a bit nutty and naive, has a healthy dose of charm, and is loyal to a fault. It’s fun that he now gets his own story, his time to shine.

In the first book, Florian was quirky and flamboyant, yet at loose ends. Now he’s found his place with the werewolves, but what happens when it’s discovered he’s a vampire? The pack might make an example of him. A wicked mess, and all in the name of love.

On top of that, a pack consisting of all females enters their territory and they’ll not be bossed around by a bunch of males. Tempers flare and it takes determination and finesse for Keely, their pack leader, to get Parker and his pack to not come in and try to claim them. These female wolves have been through some horrendous treatment by male leaders and want to find their own males.

This is where it gets sticky for Flo. He’s on Keely’s side, is juggling the situation with his own pack, and his Sire has shown up wanting to reunite the family. He’s old style vampire and sees Flo’s life as nonsense.

There’s more action, romance, and some consequences in this second book. I’d recommend reading Guarded first so you have a feel for who’s who and you can dive right in and just enjoy the ride. A great follow up and I’m hoping there’s more to come.

I received a complimentary copy. My review is voluntarily given.

2 star for story. 4 for narration, Brian Callanan did a fine job with it.

Look, I realize that not every book is going to be a feminist masterpiece. But there are times when a reader who is even remotely aware of stereotypical representations of women in fiction reads a book and can’t help but notice when a woman is pigeonholed in a patriarchal way. And there are times when this is done so drastically or repeatedly that it becomes an all-encompassing distraction for said reader. That is the case with me and this book. I was so often side-eyeing it with a ‘why does that female character act that particular way’ or ‘why is that women treated this way’ that it blotted out most of the rest of the story.

This book was infuriating. As far as I was concerned it’s basically a litany of ways to subtly to say ‘subservient to a man is a woman’s true place.’ Everything from the older female vampire who couldn’t stand up to her maker, while the younger brother was a “full grown male” so he could, to the ultra powerful Guardian who could only do her duty because her husband allowed her to, to the female alpha who didn’t really want to be an alpha, but “just a girl” (not woman mind you, but girl) who gives responsibility to someone else (a man). And of course she also happened to like to be tied up and spanked—another way to give away her power. And of course she was treated as unreasonable because she didn’t want to submit. And of course the solution the book comes to in the end was actually subservience to a male dressed up as something else.

But there’s more. There’s the vampire sister who really liked to clean up after her brothers and iron the clothes and domestically slave away for them, instead of pursuing her own career. And a whole boatload of victimized women who are treated as a commodities. But mostly, it’s just a ton of subtle little snipes that put men above women. And that’s without my getting into how dehumanizing I thought their constantly being referred to a ‘the females’ was. None of whom had names or personalities. They might as well have been ‘the vases’ or the ‘vehicles’ or ‘the incubators.’ It drove me crazy.

But stories that paint women as secretly wanting to place themselves in the hands of a man, instead of being responsible for themselves aren’t uncommon. The thing in this book that irritated me, but isn’t so common was the treatment of Ollie (maybe Ali, can’t tell with an audio version). Unless he gets an M/M book next in the series, I’m going to have to call that whole thing nothing more than queer bating. There is just no reason for Florian and Ivy to be bound to ‘mates’ in the same ceremony and one lead to a romance without readers expecting the same from the other. And there isn’t any reason to set this up with a man except queer bating. You might say it was so that Florian could get out of it to meet his mate here, but it simply wasn’t necessary in the first book, so it’s not necessary here. Queer. Bating.

Lastly, the whole thing was very predictable. I found it annoying that no one was supposed to see the obvious machinations. And I found the little bit of bondage and spanking irrelevant. It wasn’t well incorporated and felt unnatural in the sex scenes.

The thing is, this is a second book in a series and I had a lot of the same sort of problems with book one. So, I can’t say I’m surprised. But I really wanted to have this read and off my TBR. The mechanical writing seems fine, but the author's version of what should make women happy makes me gnash my teeth.

Florian is doing amazing. Great high position, until some females arrive. Now he's in charge of showing them who's boss. One look at certain baby blues and he's doomed. What will become of him. Can't stop until the end. Loved it from start to finish

Florian is a vampire who has hit the big time with business success (a rare position to be in for a member of a werewolf pack) until a female werewolf pads into his life to offer a special challenge with an unusual romance that tests his loyalties and even his true nature.

While Bound: The Silverton Chronicles is best described as an urban fantasy romance, it actually holds much more depth than this genre's usual read. For one thing, Florian's identity isn't based on his successful relationships between different worlds: it's a carefully-honed tightrope walk, and the lines he's so carefully built and trod all his life are about to come apart.

Secondly, Bound: The Silverton Chronicles injects a light dose of humor throughout, engaging readers through a series of fun encounters that are delightfully unexpected additions to a usually-serious genre: "I sucked in a huge breath of helium from the tank. “Why are we doing this again?” I asked in a high-pitched voice. My head spun, but it was totally worth it. Ivy punched me in the arm. “If you could be serious for a second, you’d realize it’s necessary. You can’t just stomp into another pack and demand they join yours. They need to be schmoozed.”

Carmen Fox's approach makes the most of the comic interlude device and adds dimension and fun to a read which sashays around two powerful protagonists who are each determined to get the most out of their very different lives, and who hold different alliances to their packs and their alpha leaders.

As readers absorb the social and political concerns of werewolves, vampires, and their intersections with human worlds, their different psyches and concerns are embellished with lively notes that add creative fun to the story line: "Any excuse to party, and werewolves were first in line at the kegger."

Readers should be prepared to enter a world where all forces exist in the same realm and mingle on the same plane: "The humans treat him like any other, and the kin… He’s got fae sending in donations. Trolls are doing his accounts and, on his instruction, helping out other kin with their finances. Gino even has demons working for him.” I frowned. “Demons? As in more than one? Demons don’t work for anyone, let alone in groups.”

By keeping secrets, Flo has endangered the thing he loves the most. It's time for his secrets to end, and the process of unraveling them, love, and werewolf objectives makes for a riveting, fun read that goes beyond the usual portraits of vampires and werewolves to inject a healthy degree of mystery, action, intrigue, and romance into the bigger picture of two very different souls who struggle to unite.

Readers of urban fantasy who look for both romance and rare humor in more complex stories of conflict will love Bound: The Silverton Chronicles, which takes passion and purpose and winds them into a captivating tale holding many different twists as it unravels a complicated truth.

"Bound" The Silverton Chronicles: Book Two
By: Carmen Fox
(I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an hones review)

The second book in the Silverton Chronicles is all about Florian (a vamp), his place in the werewolf pack, the return of his Sire and the difficult journey of wooing and cementing the "mate" he desires.

I enjoyed this edition of the Silverton Chronicles more than the first book. Perhaps because I was already introduced to Flo in the first episode and the background had been set for the characters. (Phew, because I had some difficulty keeping up with Ivy's ever evolving heritage in the first one!). Most of the characters have returned and I see each as possibly getting their own time in the sun...pun intended...in future installments.

I loved the newly introduced love interest named Keely. An Alpha-FEMALE pack leader jaded by the ruling of previous male-alphas. She is smart, beautiful and loyal to her female pack members who wish not to be controlled by testosterone after living through some horrendous acts of slavery and abuse by unscrupulous leaders.

Not wanting to join a male led pack, Keely seeks to keep their independence while hoping to compromise with Parker for some assistance with protection until they can add some male members to their numbers. She is not one to be underestimated. She is fierce, lethal and seemingly uncompromising in her determination to remain an independent pack leader.
Female pack leaders are an unknown commodity but Keely is not naive enough to think that she wouldn't benefit by having an alliance with a male-alpha pack leader or including male wolves in her own pack. She just needs to find a way to convince Parker to compromise his position. That's where Flo begins his tenuous walk between his loyalty to the werewolf pack and the desire to protect Keely at all cost. Throw in the return of Flo's sire to reunite his family and things get even stickier.

His sire is all things vampire. Having a Guardian as a best friend and belonging to a wolf pack (how does that even happen!?) does not bode well for Flo's chances of pleasing his father. Let alone falling for an Alpha-female wolf pack leader! Perhaps he can change his sire's attitude? Can he also convince Parker to relent and compromise with Keely? If her can't do either can her keep Keely and her pack safe from them and the new threat in town of rogue wolves? What's a vampire to do?! Read and find out.

Great storyline, easy writing style and enough romance, action, chuckles and character interactions to keep you attention through the entire book. I do recommend starting at book one for a little more background on the other players but if you don't have the time I think you will still enjoy this just fine!

Florian is a vampire, but he is now a worthy member of Parker's wolf pack. He is known for his negotiation skills and during the day he is also a private investigator. Florian is bound to Ali. Ali is the right hand to Alpha Parker. Ivy who is Florian's best friend is bound to Parker. They did this to make the pack stronger. When someone is bound in the wolf community it means that they are meant to be together. For Florian this is a strange situation since he is not gay.

Keely is a female Alpha in a group of only female wolves. They had a male Alpha once, but he took advantage of the women so Keely killed him. They have sworn to never submit to a male Alpha again. Keely decides to set up camp on Parker's territory. It's more than rude to do so when you have no intention of joining the pack that already lives there. In her pack there are some pregnant women and they are not fit to travel anymore during their pregnancy. The only choice they have is to stay put even if it means they have to fight for it.

Florian is sent over to Keely's pack to negotiate. He has to find a solution both packs can live with. He never intended to fall in love with Keely, but it happens the moment he sees her. As a vampire he can claim his one true love. This means that their love will last for all eternity. There is only one problem Keely doesn't know that Florian is a vampire.

When Florian's father manages to come back from exile things are made even tougher. His father who is also his sire doesn't respond well to the new Florian. Florian was able to become a master while his father was away and is now a grown man who makes his own decisions. What will happen when his father is willing to risk everything to become master of the world? Will Florian be able to save the ones he loves?

Bound is a story that grabbed me from the start. I really liked that vampires and wolves are working together instead of staying in their separate worlds. I found it really refreshing that in Bound love is not necessarily between a man and a woman, but can also be between people of the same sex. It's an angle that worked really well for this story.

The characters are all coming to life very well and they each have their own strengths. The women are just as strong and capable as the men. Carmen Fox made a good choice writing her story like this. Bound is a fast-paced story that will hold your attention until the very end.

Because I have yet to read Guarded, I decided to have a feel of it by reading people's reviews on Goodreads and Amazon. A couple of things I learned: first, Ivy is a hot commodity and second, people LOVED Florian. It's almost like they read the book because of him! Well, if I were Carmen Fox and I received that strong of a feedback about one of my characters, I would definitely give him a book of his own. And she did! Which brings us back to Bound.

From the first sentence of the first page of the first chapter: "I sucked in a huge breath of helium from the tank." I already knew that I would LOVE this book and this author. I've always leaned towards authors who write with humor, who doesn't fluff his/her work with fancy mumbo-jumbo that can only be applied to historical romance novels. So needless to say, Carmen Fox already won my heart from the first page.

But that doesn't mean that everything went smoothly for me. I got confused with the POV at the beginning. I just assumed that I'm reading from Florian's perspective since the blurb was basically about him and his adventures, and when I tried to read through the first page again, it all made sense.
I don't really know how to write a review about Bound without giving too much away. I guess I should point out that I totally understand why people fell in love with Florian; he's a goofy guy who is reliable and sweet. He's also honest and sometimes reckless. I love how humorous and witty he is, and I found myself looking forward to whatever he's going to handle following situations.

The story was going at a good pace. Even though I haven't read the first book, I still found myself being able to catch on with the things that are happening around them. It does take a while though because there are A LOT going on; different beings all around them, an array of characters with different characteristics, and a lot of action unfolding at every corner. The author has such a wild and colorful imagination that she obviously doesn't run out of story. Which, I appreciate, because then the book doesn't get dull and/or repetitive.

Review courtesy of All Things Urban Fantasy

I probably would have enjoyed BOUND much more had I read GUARDED, as it took awhile for me to finally get comfortable with who is who and what was happening and why. Absolute confusion slowly turned into a somewhat comfortable read as we start to follow Florian, a vampire connected to a werewolf pack. I liked the dynamics between Florian and his pack. They seemed like a fun group of people to hang out with and they definitely know how to party.

Florian has a lot on his plate in this story dealing with his loyalty to his new pack and the whole being a vampire thing and all that entails. I liked watching him deal with his darker urges and figuring out just where he stands in his relationships. As is to be expected of a story involving bloodsucking vampires there is a lot of blood and violence. His relationship to his pack and his sire become even more complicated with the burgeoning feelings for Keely, a female alpha wolf he meets in an attempt to get their packs to merge.

BOUND is a fun, sexy urban fantasy with lots of violence, a dash of humor, and some romance which are the exact ingredients for a pretty darn good urban fantasy story. Again, I'd recommend reading the first book as it would probably make the beginning of BOUND less confusing and hard to get through.

Bound (The Silverton Chronicles #2) by Carmen Fox Carmen Fox’s Bound is an exciting and thrilling story.  Vampire Florian is living among the Silverton werewolves and sent on a mission by the pack’s alpha to attempt a merger with a pack of female wolves.  However, negotiations do not go as easy as anticipated; not to mention Flo’s sire coming back into town causing problems.  Bound is told from Florian’s view point.  This urban fantasy is suitable for adult audiences.

Carmen Fox does a great job with her character development.  Flo has a lot of emotional issues he faces in this story and undergoes numerous changes.  He has a great personality that I found amusing.  I like Ivy.  She and Florian have a terrific friendship.  Keely is a worthy alpha.  She cares about her wolves and is stubborn when it comes to their welfare.  Florian’s sire Gino Dupree is an interesting character.  He made a great antagonist.  The plot was interesting and well developed.  The story is full of action, humor, and mystery.  There were a lot of things going on that tied together skillfully.  The ending was well resolved and interesting.  This is a great story for people who enjoy urban fantasies.

I give this book 5 hearts

This is the second book In the series and won't be nearly as good if you haven't read the first book guarded, so please go do so it rocks!
So this is Florian's story and it's fantastic. Florian is the vampire best friend and work partner of Ivy the mixed heritage demon from Guarded and yes she's in this one too.
He doesn't seem to fit anywhere the werewolf pack is tense with the arrival of a pack of females that won't join them. There are also rogues on the loose, and Florian's sire is back. Nothing is going as planned and It's a lot to handle. Everything goes haywire when he is sent to talk to the female were pack, who's sexy alpha Keely makes him dream of a future that can't possibly occur or can it?
Just like in Guarded Ivy and Florian must save the world from the bad guys and they are hitting close to home.
I absolutely loved Getting to read from his POV his dark humor and comments had me smiling. Hot and sexy, with wit and kick ass fight scenes fall in love with Florian he's dark but good, and certainly knows how to show a certain girl a very good time.

First, let me just say the writing is excellent, the storyline was imaginative and the editing was great. This was a fun read with well described emotions.

I had three issues with the book, though. The first two affected my review, the last one did not, simply because it's my personal opinion and quirk.

Yes, I have read the first book (although it quite a while ago), but considering my memory sucks, I was pretty lost in the beginning. And because I was gifted this book from the author in exchange for a review, I hadn't read the blurb before I started reading it. Therefore, I had no idea whose POV I was reading for the first few pages, which really started me off confused. I had to look up the blurb to make sense of everything. After that it flowed well.

Again, this issue is my own and holds no baring on my review, just something I wanted to point out. Reading a romance from a strictly male POV made it difficult for me to connect with the story.

All that being said, it truly is a great book. Just didn't hook me from the beginning and it took me some time to get into the groove of it.

After reading GUARDED, I wanted more of one thing. Florian. And guess what? We get it in the second book of the Silverton Chronicles. In BOUND, the story is told from Flo’s perspective. We still see his quirky, immature personality, but Ms. Fox delves further into his character. We see the nature that loves, the nature that hates, and the nature that kills. Throughout the story, Flo is torn in different directions, trying to be everything to everyone. But someone can only take that kind of pressure for so long before their top blows. Flo has to make a choice. Will he go with the girl? His friends? Or his sire? Because having all three is not an option.

I think BOUND is an excellent read for urban fantasy and paranormal romance fans. With just enough sprinkling of romance, you can still ogle over Flo, but not miss any of the twisty-turning action Ms. Fox is famous for. If you haven’t picked up a copy of BOUND yet, I’d recommend you do then head back and purchase GUARDED as well to learn more about Ivy! Both 5 star reads that keep you thinking!

From The Book Junkie Reads . . . Bound (The Silverton Chronicles, #2) . . .
Family/Pack. Love/Bound.

There are circumstance that exist that one must understand. To be bound is for life. Eternity. Forever. In a pack it makes them stronger and creates their family. Sometimes bound are tested by the blood of your family, the loyalties created, and then by the love you find.

Florian will be tested in more ways than one with this task he has been handed. He was the pack's negotiator. He was bound to the pack. He was destined for her. He was determined to end his sire.

Action rich. Drama found. Romance blossoming. Fangs bared. Love tested. Bounds strained.

This was very much Florian's story. He tests, struggles, determination, and restoration.

Okay, Keely was in there also, but for me it was all about Florian. Carmen Fox knows how to weave an excellent paranormal romance with action, drama, and a little mystery and suspense.

This was a really good book that got my interest right from the start and didn't let it go! I didn't read the first book but I don't think it took away from it at all. I found that I really liked Florian or Flo's character the most!! I really enjoyed his story and that he really didn't feel that he belongs with the pack and didn't feel right with his family. I liked the moment when he discovered that they had not pushed him out he left... Oh and there is love, family, friends, vampire and fur balls I mean werewolf's what more could you ask for. Can't wait till the next one comes out.

This is my first book in the Silverton Chronicles so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Turns out this was an awesome story and I shouldn't have worried. I didn't have to read the first book to understand this one. I'm betting that story is worth reading though too. I loved all the twists and turns that the story took. Then there was the heat between Keely and Florian and man was that steamy. This really was a great book and had an amazing narrator to make it even better.

This was an excellent listen. The narration was perfect and the pace steady. There was plenty of action, heart wrenching moments and of course explicit sex scenes to round the whole story out.

I do not recommend reading this book out of sequence. I think that it would have been a much more enjoyable read had I read the first book. I believe that much of the world building and character development were done in the first one. I felt so confused in the beginning and didn't feel the pull of the story until half way through.

I won a copy of this book. It is book #2 in The Silverton Chronicles. Florian is a vampire who falls for Keely, a wolf. I had a little trouble understanding what was going on in the beginning because I hadn't read Guarded which is book #1. I would suggest reading it first. Otherwise, I eventually caught on and enjoyed the story.

I am quite in love with this series.

Florian is a vampire, best friends with a guardian, linked to a werewolf as his intended, and falling in love with another werewolf that is squatting on the pack's territory. If you didn't read book 1, and you love paranormal worlds where multiple species cohabitate, you need to try these books. Flo is charismatic, and was a lot of fun to read. I found myself quite invested in the story, got angry when he was keeping secrets, and felt his pain (there may even have been some tears). This is quite fast-paced with a lot of action. Fans of Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire series will be delighted to find this world. It is as intricate and well written. A must read for paranormal and urban fantasy fans. I definitely recommend reading book 1 (Guarded) first, though, to understand what has already happened. I can't wait for more from Silverton (hopefully Flo's sis will get her story next?).
