I absolutely LOVE this story! It grabs you from the first page and holds you to the last. I have read it honestly probably 4 or 5 times already and still laugh, smile, & chuckle throughout. As well as panic, worry, cry and stress at what happens next. I just plain canNOT get enough, I want more and more from Rissa! I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for Taking Jana, Paradise South Book 2 to be available!
Zack's in Vallarta for two reasons, to purchase the condo he'd spent his summers and holidays as a child. The condo is also the last piece of property from his father's portfolio, it took 15 years to accomplish but he had decided he would own the entire portfolio the day his father left him, his little brother and mother for his pregnant mistress. The other reason was to be the best man in his little brothers wedding. He raised Darren and took care of his mother although he'd only been a kid himself. Zack knew after the disastrous split of his parents he'd never get married, he preferred the freedom of being an extremely smooth talking rich bachelor. But he was glad Darren was too young to be devastated by it and could now settle down with the one woman that fate made for him.
What is causing this funk Zack is in, sex with women from the bar or even closing on the condo didn't fill the void he felt inside or relieve his headache, nothing he's tried has worked. Things like this didn't happen to him, it's even keeping him from celebrating the victory of the condo, it's unacceptable. Then Isabel crashes into his life, she's a Latin angelic beauty that turns him into a blubbering mess, but the void & headache were gone. He had to talk to her but his mouth wouldn't work, worse yet... He didn't exist to her, she just walked away, but he has to find a reason to get a second chance to talk to her. She made him feel alive, maybe for the first time ever.
After almost a year of fighting the courts, Isabel is finally the proud owner of her grandparents condo. It's her out of town haven, but she's afraid to say it out loud or it'll go up in smoke like everything else in her life, including her soul mate Sebastian. The last thing she needs is something to go wrong on her first morning in her new home. Isabel has always been a magnet for mishaps, things breaking, falling, crashing and crumbling around her, it's her curse, it's why she keeps to herself and only has one night trysts with out of town vacationers.shes lost too much to even think about looking for romance or a relationship. Then she crash lands right onto the floor in front of a man who is just simply too gorgeous to be walking.
Will Isabel's curse cause Zack harm, will Zack's non belief in luck help him convince her they should be together or keep them apart? You'll have to read Tempting Isabel to find out, but my oh my I love this story!
This book is the best thing I have ever read. EVER! This is so well-written, so gripping, so emotional, so HOT, so...PERFECT!
The writing is flawless. No cliche phrases here, nooooo way. Rissa says the same thing romance authors have time and again, but she expertly uses unprecedented words and phrases to do it.
The dialogue is realistic and, at times, made me chuckle. I could easily imagine the characters speaking and hear every inflection and exasperated sigh.
The writing was SO good that I felt each and every emotion Zack and Isabel experienced. I felt his soul-deep NEED for her, and it was beyond moving.
The mystery surrounding Isabel was very intriguing, and the resolution couldn't have been more fitting. Rissa's timing and pace of how she revealed pieces to that puzzle made this a book I stayed up late reading and had to be pried away from.
This isn't a story about some guy who wants to get laid and then happens to fall in love with the girl. This is a journey of two people fighting Fate, or, rather, finally understanding Fate's message.
I will read ANYTHING Rissa Brahm writes. Get on board now, because she is going to be THE biggest romance author we have seen in quite some time!
***I received this book in exchange for an honest review***
Tempting Isabel is one of those stories that leave you feeling heavy. I enjoyed the story, loved it in fact. The connection between the main characters is believable and the internal monologue insightful. However, the story is slow moving at times and detail can be excessive. Not that these qualities are flaws, but to fully appreciate the story you need to be invested and prepared to appreciate the detailed story telling. I will definitely read more stories by this author. I was given an advance reader copy for a honest review.
Isabel lives in Puerto Vallarta and is a successful wedding planner. Ever since she can remember bad things happen around her. Because of Isabel's bad luck the locals think that she is cursed. Even her own family has abandoned Isabel to steer clear of her curse. Isabel lives in a condo by the sea, a house she inherited from her grandfather. It's a secluded place and that's just how Isabel likes it. There's nobody close enough to get affected by her bad luck. When it comes to her love life Isabel has one rule, one night only is all she can have. After losing her fiancé in a tragic accident on their wedding day Isabel doesn't allow herself to fall in love again.
Zack has been to Puerto Vallarta many times. His father walked out on his family when Zack was only 17 years old, leaving him to care for his younger brother and his mother. Because his father abandoned them Zack's mother drifted into a depression, putting a lot of pressure on Zack, who needed to become the man of the house. Zack has done well in business and he is now a multimillionaire. Zack has always taken care of his younger brother, Darren. Now Darren is getting married on Puerto Vallarta and it promises to be a big and expensive wedding. Zack has had his share of women, but never truly believed in love, until he meets Isabel. For the first time in his life Zack is feeling things he would never have considered possible. Zack has always been successful in business and in life. His mother calls him her lucky charm. Will Zack be the one who balances out the bad luck Isabel is having?
Isabel comes from a big family of twelve children but she only has connections with two of her brothers and one sister. This really broke my heart. I believe that family should stick together, but everyone else walked away, so they wouldn't risk getting damaged by her hex. It's awful they did this to her and it's something she doesn't deserve at all. Isabel is a gorgeous young woman, with beautiful curves and a good head on her shoulders. She is confident about her looks and her work, I liked that about her. Isabel is terribly clumsy and bad stuff does happen around her. This creates some hilarious situations. When Isabel meets Zack she immediately feels drawn to him, but Isabel is terrified of letting him come close.
Zack has been hurt by his father in the past, but he didn't let their history define him. Instead of feeling bad for himself Zack made sure that he and his family would have a good life. Zack is caring towards his family and loved ones. Even though he has never been in love he treats women with respect and never looks down on them. Zack is a catch. He is handsome, he has a great body and he's is also sweet and thoughtful. Zack won't let Isabel get away from him. He will do anything to make her see what their souls already know.
Rissa Brahm has chosen the perfect setting for her story. Puerto Vallarta sounds beautiful, it's such a wonderful romantic place. I loved the fact that Isabel lives near the ocean. I love the ocean as well and can watch the water for ages, letting the sounds soothe and calm me. Zack and Isabel are attracted to one another and the chemistry between them can be felt throughout the story, which is something I loved. Tempting Isabel is a beautiful story about two souls that find each other at last. Fate is helping them a little and I enjoyed that very much. Zack and Isabel deserve to be together. They are doing well on their own, but are even better as a pair. They complete each other. Tempting Isabel is a must-read for everyone who loves to read romantic stories. This is the first book I've read by Rissa Brahm but it certainly won't be my last. I look forward to reading the other books in this series.
How to start? I was supposed to write a review for this book like weeks ago. But books got to me and I totally forgot about it. Until I got an email remanding me that I have a book at that I have a book that I need to review. So, I read it using Readium. And after a day, I finally finished with this book.
Honestly, it was a mixed feeling when I was reading the book. The narration was a bit confusing. And I had to re-read some of them back to fully understands whose thought I was reading. But as I progress, I fell in love the plot of the book.
Isabel, as far as she knows has a long line of bad luck since she was small. And it caused her to protect her heart and the people around her from getting hurt. I honestly do not believe that she was cursed, but I was crying on the part on her memories Sebastian. It was such a painful moment that I cried when I was reading that part.
Zack? He had the opposite for her curse. He had infinite luck but as he said, there was a hollow felling inside him. After what happen to him in the past, who can blame him? But I love how he persisted when it comes to his feeling for Isabel.
I love the way their thoughts and their lines were delivered. Even the conflict within the story and how it was resolved had a good ending. I was just so sad about Isa losing her best friend.
The last chapters? I was about to lose my mind! I was like “Oh, NO!” then when I read the rest of it I was so effing crying! It was too much!
The ending? It was good, but I was kinda hopping for more. Then again, the revelation was so unexpected that it made me cry again.
The plot was good the characters are also good and so it the conflict. Somehow, I felt that I needed something more at the last part of the book.
Tempting Isabel is the first book in the Paradise South Series. The blurb made this sound intriguing and i havent read anything from Rissa Brahm before. Here we meet Wedding planner Isabel Ruiz, she lives in her grandads seaside condo, that was left to her after he passed away in Puerto Vallarta in Mexico. She believes from a child that she is cursed. Chosing to not let anyone get close to her after everyone she loves dies or end up leaving her, Isabel believes she is better off alone in her own little world. Next up, we meet Zack James, a self made millionaire. Zack is in Vallarta to be the best man in his little brother Darren's wedding to Amy. Zack had to take care of his brother and mum after his dad walked out on them all when he was a teenager for another woman, who happened to be pregnant with his child. Zack is also in Vallarta to purchase a condo, that he used to holiday in as a child. As Isabel and Zack meet up prior to knowing that its Isabel, who is planning his brothers wedding, the initial sparks fly. It is like an electric current for both of them. Deciding to keep things low key until after the wedding, as Isabel is not allowed to get involved with any of the wedding party. We see and feel this deep connection between them both as the story unfolds. Both are drawn to each other like a magnet. I loved the beautiful setting of this story, who doesnt love to sit and watch the sea. Isabel seemed to spend a lot of time doing this. This is a beautiful story of two souls beating as one, Isabel and Zack are meant to be together and i felt fate had a hand in this. It shows no matter how much you deny an attraction, if its meant to be it will be. I loved the use of words describing the sexual scenes, i felt the words just rolled off the tounge and i myself got lost in the depths of their love making.
I just LOVED this story. It was so much fun and so sweet. And Oh Momma, it was sexy hot. Millionaire Zack James is in Puerto Vallarta to buy his old family condo they stayed at every summer as a child and to get things ready for his little brothers wedding. He's the responsible brother that just travels and works, he has no time for relationships or complications. Then walks in the biggest complication, Isabel. Isabel is a self professing Cursed Soul. She's been engaged several times and each time, her groom dies in a terrible accident shortly before the wedding. She has given up hope and tries to chase away any wannabe prospects. To top it off, her life is all about love and weddings as she is one of the best wedding planners in Vallarta. They meet and instant connection. What happens after that is not only sexy, fun but also hilarious as Zack's Good Luck (Don't call it Luck, it's hard work) and Isabel's Cursed life fight against each other. Risaa Brahm brings a warmth and knows how to flesh her characters out. She set the beautiful scenes of Puerto Vallarta and the ocean expertly. I saw it playing out in my mind and even had a couple of funny dreams about the characters. I loved the way she played with her characters and made it a true adventure. I might just have to read this one again. I was so into the story I read it too fast. Now I want to read it again and give more attention to the details.
I was given this book by the author for an honest review.
This is one of those books where I really had trouble figuring out what to rate it. If I was basing it on the first half of the book, my rating would have been much lower. The second half of the book, however, made up for most of it.
Tempting Isabel is Rissa Brahm's debut novel and there were both pros and cons for me.
First, what I didn't like. The beginning dragged. Zack and Isabel don't meet until chapter three and it's not a very long interaction after all the build up to get to it. There's also a lot of dwelling and explaining Isabel's curse. While I get the reason why, I think that most of this information could have been scattered throughout the rest of the book to make things flow better.
With that being said, things really picked up in the second half of the novel. After I reached fifty percent, I didn't want to put the book down. A huge contrast to the first half to be sure. I was cheering Zack on and trying to figure out how he would break through the barriers Isabel put up to keep them apart.
The book is well edited and I enjoyed all the characters. We didn't meet anyone who didn't have a purpose...a reason for being in the story. I think this author has great potential and I'm interested to see what she has in store next.
I enjoyed this book. I love to travel, so an international romance set in Puerto Vallarta was right up my alley . The setting wasn't the only romantic romantic part of this book- OMG. While I've read some hotter contemporary romances even erotica, I don't usually go for the sexier books. Tempting Isabel has a few detailed hot scenes, it has a main romantic theme- not excessive sex. The actual sexy parts were integrated into the story with the development of the heroine's and hero's growth making t it g flow well Isabel Ruiz is the wedding planner and Latin Beauty James, the International playboy- self made and successful . She believed in true love but having been devastated in the past by her curse had only anonymous one screw flings keeping herself and those around her safe. Zack was disenchanted with his playboy life. He literally runs into Isabel and life changes and romance unfold. I cried and laughed reading this romance. After the first chapters set up the story was fast moving and intense. I recommend this book and look forward to the ongoing series.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Tempting Isabel by Rissa Brahm is Book 1 of the Paradise South Series. Ms. Brahm is a new author for me and I was interested to see how she rolled out this debut story. The premise of Tempting Isabel was catchy and I was jonzing to read it after seeing the description of the book. In reading the book though, I was less into it than I had expected; something was lacking. Zach and Isabel's chemistry was hot while the pace and setting were nice. At the beginning I found Zach to be a womanizing skeeze and not as likable as he was towards the end; he did find redemption with me while Isabel was simply a perfectly scripted heroine. While there were not a lot of sex scenes in this story, I did find what was there to be a bit overly done and excessive, spanning more space than what I felt was absolutely necessary to enhance the story...to each there own as the saying goes. Overall, a decent read and way to spend a lazy afternoon.
The first book in a series by Rissa Brahm with each being a stand alone story. Isabel thinks she is cursed and will not allow herself to fall in love again. She had one fiance die before she could marry him and two failed arranged marriages that never happened. Zack is visiting Puerto Vallarta for his bother's wedding. It just so happens that Isabel is the wedding planner for this event. Isabel and Zack end up meeting before they realize this connection and Isabel's boss has forbidden any relationship between staff and the participants. Will Isabel be strong enough to resist Zack's advances? And can Zack convince Isabel that he doesn't care about any so called curse? I found this book very engaging and hard to put down. I enjoy this author's writing very much. * I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Hot porta Vallarta Mexico" Lucky " Zack James meets "cursed" Isabel Ruiz while attending to business before his brother's upcoming wedding. Isa is a wedding planner for foreigners. Zack and Isa have a one night stand, the hottest either have ever had. Isa is a one and done girl because of her curse. Her job is on the line when she finds out her one night stand is part of the wedding party, her boss will not stand for her people having relations with wedding party attendees. Zack and Isa feel an undeniable pull, so how will they be able to pretend they have just met when the wedding party arrives to town? It is the hot, steamy, and dreamy first book in the Paradise South series, and I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Set in the tropical paradise of Puerto Vallarta, the author weaves an amazing romantic tale. I couldn't put this book down. I laughed, cried and cheered throughout the whole book. Isabel is a such strong, smart and classy woman. She handles all that life throws at her with such grace and resilience. Zach is the perfect match for her and a total heartthrob and exactly what every woman wants in a redeemable man! I will most certainly be reading more in this series!
It is very obvious that this writer is very talented and skilled. These characters are flawlessly formed and immediately you are aware of the contrasting views toward love by the main characters. The journey was a bit long for me but the writing kept me captive. I had to know! The journey to the HEA is a great one very much worth reading and an excellent start for a book one. The hot and steamy scenes are well placed and serve a purpose towards the story. Skilled doesn't seem a strong enough word! A copy of the book was received through book review 22 for honest reviews.
I am now and from this point forward a die hard Rissa Brahm fan! I absolutely can not get enough of her writing. The way it ebbs and flows. Her wording and technique. Oh my goodness! The main characters Isabel and Zack in this book she couldn't have written more imperfectly perfect for one another, I loved it! I started this series a little backwards and read number two first but I think that was ok, it didn't really phase the story of the main characters. I flipping loved it! I can't wait to get my hands on the third one!!! I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Isabel Ruiz is a wedding planner, with as she believes a cursed life the people of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico believe that is so, she only has one night flings until she meets Zackary James a self-made millionaire who has a charmed life. What happens when these two realize they are meant for each other? Have these two meet before without really knowing that, if so when? I was gifted a copy for an honest review barwatts@telus.net
I received this ARC free for a honest review. Tempting Isabel (Paradise South #1) By Rossa Brahm. The story was romantic, sultry, and engaging. Beginning with the two protagonists Isabel Ruiz a event planner, and Zack James a self made millionaire /playboy in the paradise of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The characters pull the story together, with an instant chemistry. A great exotic back drop, and storyline. A good read from beginning to end. 4 stars.
I enjoyed this fast paced romance. It was easy to care about the characters. Through most of the book I was kept on the edge of my seat. While it was a forgone conclusion that Zack and Isabel would end up together, sometimes, it was hard to believe it would really happen.
Be warned, there are a couple of very graphic sex scenes. I skimmed over these and it took nothing away from the story.
I fell in love with the setting of this book. The author paints a beautiful atmosphere here. I enjoyed the growing tension between the Isabel and Zack. I liked their history with the place. The story started out a tad slow for my taste but then it got moving and took off. I am excited to see where the next book goes. I highly recommend this book.
I received this book in exchange for my honest review. I loved it and couldn't put it down once I started. Great characters and story line as well. You will love reading about Isabel and Zack. A wedding planner who believes she has a cursed life and billionaire who has found life.
It is an ok read. Interesting book but not something I usually read. But it is a good one for someone who likes this kind of books. It kept my attention. I was given an ARC by Book Review 22 for an honest review.
Paradise South Book 1 This is the first time in reading this Author. There is a charisma to the writing. The writing is fresh. It is a well-written story with erotic romance as well as being a fun read.
I read this after the third book in the series, Catching Preeya, which may have tainted my judgement. Temping Isabel is a lovely book, but read on to Catching Preeya if you really want to see Rissia Brahm hit her storytelling stride!
The writing was just not that great. There were just too many commas and ellipses. The story wasn't flowing very well either. Some points I couldn't tell if it was her POV or his.
Good storyline and characters. Well written, had me turning the pages. Loved the emotions it brought out, and the heat. Lots of laughing out loud. Would recommend.
Curses, Suspence, Love, Hate, Disgrace, Secrets and Mystery All Spun into a tail that will spin you up like a "Tilt a Whirl Ride!
Its a good story, it had a lot of potential to be a five star book! And I did enjoy it, But would or could have given more stars....if it was better! It is very long, I think it drags in several places and she didn't need to do that, the book already had plenty going on in that the extra was to much! Its was to long and also why its filled with stuff you don't exactly need to know but then some things were left out or skimmed over.
Temptress Isabel....Is she? Well the author Rissa Brahm tried almost to hard to make you think just this and that the Hero Hunky Millionaire was hard as stone and so cold but yet so good looking Nobody would ever pass him up. Number one I don't care to much for a guy being described as such because we all have different opinions, likes and dislikes, I guess it worked because he had to for once work hard for a woman and he had never had to nor had he ever wanted anything more than some hot sex and move on to the next person or persons that peaks his interest. I did really like Zach in the end and I know that was what she wanted but I just hate that term that these rich people can get anyone they want, I am not rich so I do not know, I am sure you can buy anything! :) But obviously Everyone stares at these two people Isabel and Zach as if they are the prettiest people in the world. I struggled with this because it is said So Many times, she even has the best curves in all the right places. But I did get over it and finally I enjoyed the characters, it had me setting down my book for awhile then trying again. Also telling me what they are wearing fine, but every single time is so overkill and even when they are still wearing the same clothes, I got it the first time, I don't think I need to know more than if its pant or skirt maybe nice shoes or not a good fit for the outing its just over kill on the descriptions of clothes. Then things I felt unclear about I didn't get those, what did her inherited totally redone to be brand new condo look like or at least how many bdrms and bathrooms. I didn't really know what it all looked like other than a kitchen with a sliding doors and she had a bedroom and bathroom and maybe set in the living room once I think of it as all open spaces but I do not really remember anything about it other than her stepping on glass from breaking the brand new door and needing assistance Way to often. Its truly is not a big deal I honestly didn't need that much info. But Much Later on in the story to figure out this condo and another one very close ended up Being VERY Important Years before and it meant A LOT to these two people, so because of that it might have been nice to know a little more about how it was laid out, how a family of four stayed in it (Zach's family) and also Isabel's family and her family is Huge. So how did they fit? I guess maybe only a few stayed the nights everyone else must have gone home, a quick 30 minute drive and then this is made to be So Far and ridiculous of an idea for her to want to live Way out in this beautiful place when she moves to the condo, even though she can do a lot of work from her patio looking at the ocean it seems. I'm guessing grandpa gave it to her because she was the only wanting it or wanted to stay as a young girl, she does love it here despite the Curse! Its her hometown here in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico! It seems beautiful place (seems she doesn't need AC she just opens the door and it cools off the Condo from the Ocean wind so I am guessing you don't need to have AC in Mexico) isn't it terribly hot and humid? Anyway That stuff bugs me....and I docked a star for to much filler and to much how pretty they are and the clothes but yet poorly info on these important Condos. Could have cut 100 pages and still been a good book, being 300 plus pages didn't help it, it hindered it. a few typos that I noted but not bad, like I said I did enjoy the story line!
But anyways you read the Blurb you know we have a curse and a man and woman neither looking for Love. Isabel is cursed in her hometown and everyone knows it. She has had some terrible things happen. One is so horrific I cant believe people think its a curse! I just felt plain sorry for her. She does have several failed attempts at marriage that has gone awry I think its 3 to 4 times a couple of them are even older men, it never works or happens but when all of these things are put together the town says she is cursed and so she believes it, strange things do seem to follow her or happen, broken shoes, tripping, and all kinds of other things get crazy. But the one thing she cant mistake is how can she feeling about Zach regardless of how she fits it, she wonders if it is truly possible to find another true love/soulmate or was it really Love that first time. She cant allow herself to ever think that, especially when she has only restricted herself to be a one time rule only. She is a wedding planner and has done very well at this job and the owner has started giving her the some big jobs and wants to give her more responsibility so that she might can expand her business, Zach is about the same way because he doesn't even want a commitment or family. His family fell apart when he was young and he had to become the man of the family an doesn't believe in love, his dad about killed his mother and she has never been the same. His brother was allowed to grow up not knowing much about what was happening but figuring out that his big brother did very well for himself and took very good care of him and his mother and that he paid for his college education and is paying for a lot of this wedding!. Zach has done excellent, so well he doesn't really even need to work. He comes to Isabel's island for his baby brothers wedding and to buy a Condo to relax and start taking it easy on an island that brought joy to his heart long ago, can it do it again? Can Isabel figure out why all the crazy things happen to her or to any man that gets close to her, she makes a costly mistake with her best friend who is a guy, she is afraid he is in danger but he isn't backing down, as her best friend that now wants more than to be just friends.
Zach is intrigued with Isabel, he has never felt what he feels with Isabel with any woman and he had even been feeling bad almost like he was sick and when he was around her he felt wonderful, he didn't understand it but he wants her to see what this is between them he knows she feels it as well. So he is relentless in trying to convince her they need to give each other a try and although he doesn't understand why Isabel will not give him a try, she does have one excuse and it works pretty good. Isabel is also very intrigued she is feeling the same, of course she thinks any woman would want Zach and that so she cannot trust it. She has to stay with her normal practices that she has given herself for the safety of others because of her curse. Strange things happen at her condo, at her work, Everyone thinks she has this bad curse and maybe she might even be evil.
It turns into some fun, quirky entertainment with a good mystery twist! Zachs long lost father shows up and tries to win over Zach which I think he knew wouldn't happen and of course his brother. His bride to be gets the father to come thinking what a great surprise it will be, and she also has some crazy freaky family and Zachs brothers new to be mother in law and sister in law are something else...I'll leave that just like that
So is it a Real Curse, or is it really somebody doing some sabotage, trying to make life harder than it should be for both Zach and Isabel, maybe they both have something others really want, he is rich and she is cursed but has a nice place and is also making a name for herself in her wedding planning I did like the story when it got into the secrets and the mystery parts and trying to figure out Isabel's curse along with what is going on with Zach and what is this strange pull to Isabel and his headaches and not feeling good!
Couldn’t finish it. So much swearing it got on my nerves. The word “f*ck” was used almost 300 times; “damn” 256, “sh*t” 68... the word “ass”? 323 times. Way, way overboard. Most of the characters come across as some overly emotional teenagers and actual talk like teenagers.
The whole time I was reading, the only image I had of the hero was one of a lovesick dog - not a good visual. He's got the emotional intelligence level of a teenager. He’s cursing like his life depends on it, he’s obsessed with the heroine and of course he’s supposed to be some god in bed. Meh. So many cliches.
The heroine believes she’s cursed and that it puts people around her in danger. She assumes a lot of stuff and tends to be impulsive. She’s just very boring and plain.
I tried to finish it but couldn’t. Reached 51%. I don’t know where the good reviews come from, quite honestly.
The writing is very ordinary, the story doesn’t flow, the point of view changes too quickly to keep up with... this book isn’t worth reading.
