Freaky thing, living with someone’s else’s vital organ. Charlotte learns that the hard way when she receives a life-saving heart transplant. Her doc says all is well, but Charlotte knows the heart’s in trouble in a way science can’t measure. To make matters worse, her poor dead donor is trapped in an after-life that Char wouldn’t wish on an enemy. It’s up to her to find out what the heart needs, pay her debt to her donor and free them both from an awful fate. If she’s smart, Charlotte will also find out what a heart is really for.
ARC Provided for an honest review. Loved this non-scary ghost story about a high schooler's haunted heart! You would think having a heart transplant would be enough chaos for Charlotte, but that was only the beginning. Anderson deftly navigates the troubled waters of high school, complete with bullying blogs, flawed friends, and a quirky quest to discover why her donor's soul just won't leave her alone. I hope the supporting cast of characters at Grayson Country Day School heckle Ms. Anderson's heart and force her to write a sequel, as I've grown attached to them!
"Four Chambers" by Ann Anderson is a YA novel about Charlotte, a teenaged girl who has just survived a heart transplant and is desperate to find out more about her anonymous donor. It was quite original and explored some very current issues. It explored bullying from a different perspective, which was unexpected and refreshing. This book was very enjoyable and I think it would appeal to a lot of teenagers!
Four Chambers is a poignant tale of second chances and self-discovery. I was completely caught up with the main character, Charlotte and sympathized with the trials she had to face. Reading this book took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions. There were times that I wanted to just give her a big hug, times I chuckled to myself and even a few times that made my heart cry with sympathy. There's a light layer of paranormal essence threaded throughout the whole book that adds a delightful flavor. Despite all the trials and amendments she had to make, there's a surprisingly sweet ending that left me completely satisfied. I just had to close my eyes and savor the moment when I finished reading Four Chambers! A very delightful read!
Quaint. Easy read. Hard to put down. Great writing job. It bordered on a cliched high school drama scene but thankfully it skirted the typical teen stories.
