Oh welp. So I reviewed Dahlia a few days ago, which is the first in this series, and Fallen Tears in the following novella which is kind of a teaser for the sequel and oh my god. I kind of just wished that this is the book that introduced us to the world, rather than Dahlia's story. I felt Rowan's story had so much more life too it! I mean yes I enjoyed the previous book but I just felt this was a lot better. Fallen Tears is aptly named, its a novella that starts off by introducing us to 12 year old Rowan, homeless, alone, cold and hungry under a bridge until she realises she isn't as alone as she thought, there's someone else there with her, or should I say something. That something is Kaji, a vampire, or as you later find out the first vampire, and there's almost an instant connection between himself and Rowan, they find themselves agreeing to be a part of each others lives, Rowan will teac Kaji how to be more human, to welcome his emotions and he in return will look after her and protect her. I think what I liked most about this is that we got more of insight to the vampires of this world, seeing as Dahlia was only half-vampire and that wasn't even touched upon too much, here we get to meet at least two (hehe, does that count as a spoiler?) and you really get to emphasize with many of the characters introduced in this novella, its actually gotten me a lot more excited for the second book of the series and I'd really love to read it right now! We also get a closer look at some other fallen angels, ones that aren't vampire hating murders and I'd love to see more of that family - again lack of names because I could touch upon a spoiler if I do! Anyway, I loved this so much more, it was a great read!
Favorite Lines “I think I’ve loved you since I first met you. When you saved me from my life and all the pain I was feeling.” She shrugged unapologetically. “Only now I’ve realized it.”
“I know you feel like you have no one right now. And I know you’ve just met me. But if you like, you have me.”
This is why I love paranormal books! This was a great addition to an amazing series! Kaji took Rowan in when she was a frightened little girl and so alone! Rowan gave Kaji a reason to exist! Then are leading a comfortable life when a Lapsus come a changes everything! Kaji is forced to make a decision that will change everyone's lives. Lives will be lost and hearts broken! Just great writing! I love the characters! Kaji is dreamy!
From the moment Rowan is introduced, a child alone, she demonstrates her strength of personality in an otherwise bleak world. Taken in by a mysterious man, she is allowed to be a child again, accepting what he is because he accepts her. And who or what is Kaji? Is he really lamia, as he claims, preferring the actual name to the term 'vampire.' Years pass and Rowan grows up under Kaji's care and supervision. But when Rowan gets her first job, on her very first night working, something happens that will change her forever. It will cost her the only family she has known for so long. It will drive her to a life of seclusion and despair.
Fallen Tears by Christina Channelle proved to me that this new author is gifted with the ability to write! I was drawn in to this dark novella immediately and was impressed with how much was covered in so few pages! I look forward to more from Christine!
You know what I love and hate about novellas? It's like the author is just dangling the characters in front of your face without giving you anything substantial to really dig into. I swear they were created to make me more impatient than I already am. The evil minds of authors are ganging up against me by creating so many amazing novellas that make me even more addicted to their series.
Now, I am done whining like a child. Well mostly. My review is going to be short and sweet just like the book itself so don't judge me on its shortness. I really want to not spoil some awesome things.
Fallen Tears by Christina Channelle introduces the newest character to the Blood Crave series (and I will pout on the sidelines of Dahlia doesn't make an appearance in the next book as well). Rowan has faced more than her fair share of difficult situations and she definitely seems to have a knack for finding it all on her own. It doesn't seem to take much for her to find herself in harms way but none of it is her fault. Really. There has always been one person who found her at her worst and saw her at her best and that was Kaji. It becomes clear that their story will never be simple. All it took was one situation for the whole house of cards to cave in on them. Will they survive beyond this?
Rowan is a sweetheart in the beginning, clinging to the happiness she once dwelled on as a child when she finds herself alone in the scary world. She had this ability to find a bright spot in the darkest of moments and those closest to her seem to bask in the warmth she provides. I found the innocence that she had at first to be very endearing. She trusts people without a moment's hesitation, which likely could've been her downfall. It all changes when she gets a job because let's be honest, doesn't everyone's lives change when they get a job? Well, hers doesn't change for the better in the opinion of those who control her fate. Suddenly she is forced from her safety, from her home into a life that never was her own. Her shaky resolve in hanging onto her humanity has snapped and now she is determined to shield herself from everyone. To protect herself, she must forget what it felt like to be happy... to be in love. She must remember those that hurt her most were the people she trusted. If only things were that simple and everything was black and white. Her character development is astounding over the course of the novella and I cannot wait to see more of her character.
My excitement for the next book is definitely at its highest. Why must I wait? Oh right, because I don't have magical powers that suddenly reveal all the books I want to me. Dang. That would be a legit power. So basically, the next time you hear about this series, it will be me fangirling (yup, I went there) over the next book.
4.5 Stars http://divainpyjamas.blogspot.com.au/... The mean streets were no place for orphaned, twelve year old Rowan Miller. For the past three months, Rowan has lived on the streets since her alcoholic father's passing, having never known her mother, who passed when Rowan was an infant.
Seeking shelter under a bridge in the dead of night, Rowan is approached by a tall, almost brooding man in his twenties, and although startled, she immediately feel that this man means her no harm. His presence a warm comfort, a kindred spirit. Kaji can feel Rowan's heart crying out for help.
Kaji is a Lamia, or vampire, as determined by today's pop culture references, and offers Rowan the opportunity and safety of food and shelter, in exchange for the talkative and boisterous girl to teach Kaji what it is like to be human again. Kaji quickly becomes the only person that Rowan can rely upon, with the two now finding what they both needed most... Family.
As the years pass, Kaji and the mysterious Lamia Adam train Rowan, teaching her weaponry and defense, but nothing could prepare Rowan for her first encounter with the Lapsus, or fallen angel, as she was brutally stabbed taking out the trash during her first shift as a waitress at a local cafe. Kaji, hearing her silent plea for help, rushes to her aid, only to find Rowan's life draining from her bleeding body. Kaji has no other choice, she is his reason for existing and the only way to bring her back, is to turn her. But is he too late?
He flees with Rowan's body to the Cross household. The family being derived from the fallen, but a family Kaji's trusts with his life... And Rowan's. Remy is instantly taken with the still, lifeless Rowan, her beauty mesmerising. But after seven years of caring for Rowan, Kaji needs to leave. He cannot endanger her life any further, whether she is human or not. As Rowan adjusts to her new life as a Lamia, Remy now becomes her anchor, her tie to her humanity.
But it seems that Kaji leaving doesn't guarantee her safety.
Fallen Tears is a short novella as part of the Blood Crave series, which tells the heart wrenching story of Rowan, the orphaned girl who finds her savior in the form of Kaji, a vampire. It was beautifully written and emotionally charged and fills in the blanks between Dahlia and Rowan, books one and two. Fallen Tears has left me eager to start Rowan, and I cannot wait to continue the series.
This is a more emotional book that tells the story of an orphaned girl who is found by a Lamia. This is the start of Rowan's story. From when she was found by Kaji, right through to how she was left with the Cross family; a family of Fallen Angels who have helped to keep the remaining few Lamia concealed from the Fallen Angels.
This novella is beautifully written and emotionally charged. I was drawn into this dark novella very quickly. I was impressed by how much was covered in such a small amount of pages and without it feeling rushed or crammed in.
I love how this book is based more around the Lamia; as I'm a lover of all things Vampire related!
Fallen Tears has left me eager to read Rowan and see how her life pans out, and how Dahlia and Greyson fit in or if Kaji and Adam return. On to Rowan...
Fallen Tears is sort of a side story/prequel to the 2nd book about one of the upcoming characters in the series, Rowan. I liked this book more than the first I think. Rowan is very different from Dahlia in personality, though they both don't have their parents. This is a good sized novella and a very quick read. I liked seeing who this Rowan character is. She has a very tragic story, and you really start to feel for her and wish things had gone better. What kept me from giving it more stars was Rowan's relationship with her sort of self-adopted "father". For so long, it makes it seem like they have a strong father-daughter type bond, but then it seemed to seriously go towards to something more like a romantic bond. I don't know; it just seemed an odd transition when the first bond was captured so well. When Rowan meets another guy who might be a potential love interest, I was surprised at how quickly she got attached to him. I'm not sure she is going to come across in the next Blood Crave book. If you liked Dahlia, I would definitely recommend this book to you. It does a great job on the mysterious Rowan's background.
Aptly named, ‘Fallen Tears’ is an emotional book. As appears customary in vampire tales, we begin with a forgotten child. Twelve year old Rowan Miller is found by mystery man, Kaji. Rescuing her from a runaway’s life, Kaji raises the orphaned Rowan. Fast forward 7 years. Nineteen year old Rowan has an unfortunate encounter with a lapsus or fallen angel. To save her, Kaji must make her a vampire life him. Now they’re technically equals. What will become of this once parent-childlike relationship? Although read with an open mind, ‘Fallen Tears’ fell way short of its literary counterparts. Since ‘Twilight’ dawned, media has steadily fed us a diet of vampire/human storylines. After Rowan is attacked, there seems to be a traffic jam of characters & their powers (for lack of a better term). ‘Fallen Tears’ may be better appreciated by the YA crowd. However, they too, may be oversaturated by this plot line. Hopefully, readers will receive a bit more bang for their buck in future installments by Christine Channelle. She is a good author. A truthful 3 of 5 stars is my rating.
I really enjoyed writing this novella. It brings you into the past and introduces you to new characters that will each play a vital role in the upcoming books in the Blood Crave series. I hope you enjoy! :)
