This was super cute. I love a modern mail order bride-ish story! I thought the chemistry was great considering they spent a lot of time talking via email, text, phone and video.

My favorite aspect of the story was the dialogue between the MCs. It felt real. Many times dialogue can be stiff, totally unbelievable or just plain stupid. Several times, I remember thinking - wow she or he sounds like a real person!

For such a short story there was a complete story arc with a little drama and plenty of time for them to bond as a couple. It was not all sex scenes. Overall a fun short story. Free on KU, so a great value!

Disappointed

The first half of the book was slow and I found myself skimming through it. I think the Internet thing went on a little to long for me and it started to lose me. Once Colton and Karena met the story picked up some but there was just not enough time to build the connection. A few walks around the lake and a BBQ didn't add to the character/romance development. This could have been a real cute story but it was just to slow in the first half and then too fast in the last half. Also the epilogue left a lot of questions unanswered like what happened with the parents? What happened to Becca? Did Karena go back to school? How did Karena transition to being a military wife? This book just didn't reach out to me.

SPOILERS AHEAD

🟩Book flowed smoothly.
🟩No angst or very little whatsoever.
🟩Neither virgins. Celibate✅
🟩No-cheating.
🟩No OW/OM drama.(Not that I remember)
🟩Arranged-cum-love marriage.
🟩h is a saleswoman, selling lingerie's to Old men who take their mistresses to Hawaii.
🟩H is a navy seal, too tired to find love.
🟩He puts an online add looking for a bride.
🟩She applies. They meet. Get to know each other. Fall in love.
🟩HEA.

🟥 What I liked-

✅Even though this was arranged marriage romance, I liked how the H didn't straightaway marry her.

✅They both actually get to know each other first.

✅They go on dates, he introduces her to his friends.

✅There's hot tension.

🔥SMUT- These contemporary navy romances don't have any Kinks. And they're...... the MCs have physical connection at like...40% into the book. There's hot tension alright, but the intercourse takes place at a later time into the book. So.... 5/10 i'd say.

3.5 Felt Like the Real Deal Stars
* * * 1/2

Finding your person is not as easy as it use to be...Oh, if you are lucky, you may meet through friends, or an organization or even work... but with all the ways we are so distracted for whatever reason...the mating game has taken a turn...to an older way in a new form...

I am talking about online dating...yes, the internet has caused this revolution of an unlimited resource of people searching for their one...Yet... If you think about it ... it actually is a reboot of the age old way of finding the mate...

Mail Order Brides...

The Written Word used as a way to reach out and tell another about yourself is as old as the discovery of writing...Cavemen drew on the stone walls... telling stories and it graduated to a form of speech to the progression of letters and words. Each time in history had a type of arranged marriages and with the advent of the New World of America...and then the West...the idea of Mail Order Brides was accepted. (Yes, my references are focused on America- no disrespect to other countries)

Now not all long distance relationships were business transactions ....many were true love stories which, I am sure, generations love retelling over the years to grandchildren. Yet from the start, marriage was more of a business contract than a love one...one that entailed a true need for survival and unfortunately... the label of property....

So why all of this rambling....Well, in this engaging tale, we have two people who truly believe that marriages almost never work when based on the notion of love... Both had parents who destroyed any belief with their examples...causing our main characters to have a cynical view.

What causes them to come together is a set of circumstances putting in motion a profile from our military man stating plain and simple his desire for a wife...a partner to be there without all the fluff, lies or games usual dating employs...He has his reasons for deciding after his tours of duty to change his focus...but he has decided to see if by being honest to the point of blunt...he might find a like minded gal. If she happened to be easy on the eyes... a huge plus.

Our gal is at the turning point of frustration... she feels trapped in her job, catering to spoiled society women looking for the next fashion trend. She lives in Seattle and the cost of living is extreme. She has a job where most of the pay is commission... meaning she has a very difficult time knowing if her bills will be paid. Due to that harsh family divorce, she made some behavior decisions which impacted the course of her life...like leaving high school without the necessary diploma. This more than anything has caused her to feel trapped in her work...She has sent out a few resumes to find an additional gig but no responses.

It is after a truly horrific day, she goes on line and sees this ad for a dating site with our guy's face. She is a little tipsy... feels some sort of connection but then figures he probably is a model....She goes to the site and completes the profile, laughing as she does.

Meanwhile our guy is stunned by the responses to his profile; he has haters saying he has no respect for women, etc...but overwhelmingly, he has so many responses, he is shocked. He goes through them all, setting aside a few. On the flip side, his profile is sent to our gal....with her being stunned he is actually a real person. She reads his profile with his blunt statement of how he is looking for a wife...someone honest, doesn't play games and willing to commit to a military life.

Something rings true and she sends him a clear response... wishing him well in his endeavors even if he doesn't respond back to her.

This book took a very straight forward idea and captured exactly how a person can feel when meeting long distance online. The way the relationship develops rang true for me...if done right, communications of written words can cause the blood pressure to boil in anticipation...reducing the person to feel like a teenager's first love experience.

I happened to like both of these characters; the emotional hurdles each needed to overcome made sense and when they became a couple, you rooted for them. If you want a little something- something to read and put a smile on your face, this is a good way to do it.

I have read books by K.B. but never had the pleasure of reading one from Audra Cole. I must say I love this book. Both authors are fantastic.

Colton (Hawk) Hawkins is in the army in Georgia an up for a promotion for Captain. His commanding Officer tells him it would help his chance for a promotion if he had a wife an family. Only thing is the promotion is in a few months.

Hawk decides to put an ad online for a Email Order Bride. He is up front an honest, he's not looking for love, just a woman he can marrying to futher his career, or he thought at first. He didn't believe in love he had seen to many couples falling apart just like his parents.

Karena was in a dead end job in Washington State, didn't think due would ever get out of the rut she was in. Didn't date, but she did go out with her girls from work.

She just happen to be online checking her emails an a ad popped up a dating site, something told her to check it out. Well she did , she filled everything out an joined. She saw Colton's pic an read his profile. She didn't know what to think could he be for real, was he just a pretty face for the dating site.

She read his ad, an for some reason she just had to answer him back. They swapped emails back an forth. They started video chat an felt comfortable with each other. They shared texts, stayed in touch.

Her best friend Becs was worried about her not to mention Colton's buddies especially after he told them they were talking online, video chatting but never met in person.

They both felt a connection even though they were thousands of miles away from each other.
What will happen if she agrees to meet him, will they make it...but now Colton isn't in it just for his promotion he cares for Karena, he has fallen for her.

Some people sit around wondering if they will ever fall in love, some meet in the most unexpected places. Sometimes love is unpredictable an you never know what the love bug has in store for you.

Will they still have a connection if they decide to meet an see where this goes.

This was an entertaining read for me. I have no clue why the idea of an email order bride hit my interest but it did, and it turned out to be good, so no regrets.

Colton is a lifer, with a lot of pressure coming on him from his father, who was also a lifer. Lifer is a term for people in the military that are making it their life, going for retirement. Anywho, coming from a military well to do family, there is pressure on Colton to make the next step up the ladder, which YES having a wife that deals with the ..... a**kissing side of meet and greets, and shoulder rubbing does come in your favor. So Colton decides he is going to look for a someone that will take this.....as seriously as he does, but doesn't have the delusions of love.

Karena is in a life that seems to go nowhere. Having had a rough childhood and is now helping married men buy lingerie for their mistresses, she has no delusions that love exists or the hopes that come with it. BUT she is lonely and does want the companionship that a relationship fulfils. She stumbles upon the ad that Colton posted, and now can't get him out of her head.

A leap of faith and both Colton and Karena decide to give this a try, but will this leap pan out or will they both crash and burn? This was a good read, with the right amount of drama, and some really hot booty times. I am looking forward to the next book. I give this a 4.5... I wanted a lil more in the ending.

Internet Dating

Hawke is in the Army and looking for his next promotion but it doesn't look good since he is single. Karina works as a personal shopper in Seattle but barely makes it on commissions. When she see the ad for internet dating. They connect on line, he's in Georgia. Can it work.

It was free on Amazon Kindle...
I'm a total fan of military guys, sooo...

The synopsis tells you what it's about.
The two mains are fine, nothing especially to complain about. The story is fine, nothing that makes you want to hurt someone, bitch about sexism, or macho crap.
It's fine, fine, fine.
I'm SO BORED!

The FMC has money troubles, but we never reach any tense moments. She also HAD family drama, but we never hear any true details, or get especially upset over it. One moment, and only one, it seems there will be SOMETHING to read about, but it's sorted on the same page.

The MMC has some true issues with his family and his sense of self.
Which he gets past within a few weeks, and we get to read the calm, competent, and logical way he handles it all.

I'm not a drama fan, don't want tears and wailing. But there has to be some sort of (real) conflict, some reason why we need a whole novel to tell the story.
This could have easily been written in an article. It would have been interesting, possibly had a few funny comments, a real 'interest' piece. Something you read for fun.
In those circumstances, I would have truly enjoyed, been intrigued by the story.
As a novel ... I have no specific complaints, except I felt nothing!
I so wanted to like this, the characters seemed really nice and friendly, they were both attractive, intelligent, decent individuals. 😴

I think I'm drifting again...

Action! Interest! Conflict! Something! I could have enjoyed this, but it never got there.
No direct criticism, just ... blah.

A must read! Karena is in a dead end job in Seattle and Colton who is an ARMY Ranger in Georgia needs to be married to get promoted to Captain. Both find each other on a dating website. Coming together, they form a fast-paced relationship & fall in love.

Slow in the beginning, all communication is internet-based, but 50% through she flies to Georgia to meet Colton. Its one of those romance stories of a blind date with a totally happy ending. This is a sweet romance, it is fast paced; which i would have loved to seen more getting to know one another, but overall written well. As a military spouse myself, this was a good read.

Would love to see another book on their adventures of her overcoming the military spouse obstacles and his obstacles as a newly Captain & daddy!

Super cute read. I loved the take on the new "mail order bride" with a mix of online internet social media.

Colton is career Army and Karena is a personal shopper and she realizes it is a dead end job and not making her happy. Both have been jaded by love and don't want a fairy tale ending. Karena replies to an ad on an online dating site that says just that....a want to get married and for it not to be a fairy tale.

We watch as they internet date and Karena goes to spend time with Colton ("Hawk") to see if they are compatible.

Will they get their HEA or will a deployment cause them to go their separate ways.

2.5 *’s Military Mail Order Bride

Colton is looking for a promotion, and is told he needs to be married to be taken seriously.

Karena is looking for an adventure and answers his ad...

The summary pretty much lays the story out, the characters are good...they are both like able....no tantrums, no assholery...no times I want to punch either in the face...no real conflict...I’m bored!

We get glimpses of issues..Karena has baggage, she has money problems, has had some “issues” in her past...but we’re never really told about them. Each and any conflict is pretty much brushed away on the same page or chapter.
It’s a quick read, not a bad story, I just felt meh...

Colton is not an appreciative man when certain things are interrupted, but he handles it like a true gentleman and looks to his lady for her opinion, "the doorbell rang again, followed by a series of knocks. “Be right there!” Colton hollered down the hall. He looked back at me and ran a finger down the side of my face. “You want me to get rid of them?” I liked this book I thought Colton was a great guy.

Colton needs a wife and has a limited time to accomplish the feat if he is going to make the deadline for his promotion. he places an add which Karena responds to. Neither were looking for a happily ever after but when fate takes over and the lines blur. Will they end up pledging their hearts to each other for a happily ever after?

Improbable!

This was a sweet read, highly improbable , unlikely and kinda silly. Don't expect any ' special forces ' action just a couple who get together in unconventional circumstances. Found it free.

Cute story. This one was a modern version of a mail order bride story. As long as you can forget about the FAST pace of their courtship, it's a sweet story about two people finding love.

It had a cute story topic, online dating, but the writing was off, maybe it was the two authors that made it feel off. Wont read more by these 2.

Hawke and Karena have very different reasons for going onto an online dating site, but what thry do have in common is that they don't have enough time available to meet someone the conventional way. Talking with eachother online they quickly get involved. When they do get to meet the chemistry is as good as expected and their relationship blooms at the same rapid pace. They do have hiccups along the way that keep the story more believable.

I enjoyed this sweet short story. Although it was short, it didn't feel too rushed which sometimes these type of books can. Hawke and Karena felt like real people. You got quite a good insight into both their backgrounds and could understand why they behaved and lived as they did. Their getting together via meeting online probably happens a lot more than I realised

Well. What to say. I actually really really liked this story. A modern romance that could have almost been set in an historical setting. Our hero is a good looking, sensible, stable, army soldier and he wants a promotion and is told that to be considered he should be married...really? In 2016? Anyway.... he goes on an online quest to find a bride.

And the reason for my rating?

There was no angst, no drama, no breakup/makeup. And while this made for pleasant reading, it didn't really make me work for it....

Great job

I absolutely loved this book. The way Cotton and Karena meet is unusual to say the least. An internet dating site. They are not interested in the whole love and romance thing at first; they were both looking for something that would work out minus the entangle of love. After meeting to spend a couple of weeks together to see if they clicked, they get their happily ever after.

It wasn't surprising that they had some ups and downs but like I said before, they have usual happy ending.

Two people, each not looking for a relationship it's not even on their radar. Colton wants a promotion that's coming up but what does his boss tell him, he needs to marry to have a better chance at getting it. Karena works her butt off and she still struggling to make it. Never one to want to find that Happy Ever After but when she is feeling down a Ad catches her attention. Who would have thought that by Karena answering Colton post that would lead them into a future they never thought they wanted. Grab the popcorn and enjoy the ride.

Wanted: a wife!!

Colton wants to make Captain before he turns 30 just like his General father. His commander informs him if he wants this, he needs to get a wife. So he does the unexpected and goes to an online dating site stating exactly what he wants. Meanwhile, Karena needs a better paying job in order to make ends meet. After applying for several jobs online, she keeps seeing dating sites popping up in her computer. She deletes them until she sees Colton's picture on one. Reading his profile inspires her to reply to him. They connect and see where this leads!!

I enjoyed the book, liked the plot but think it just ended too early- I just wanted to to explain more. The book spent a lot of time building the characters, but once they met in person there was so much more I wanted to see! I wanted more about the challenges they faced with family and friends and in learning to adapt to a new lifestyle, I like the epilogue and all the secondary characters were great too!

Story was ok, moved along at an understandable rate and then when it came time to meet his parents everything sped up at the end and it was almost as if she forgot the total number of pages she had to the finish line so the last part was rushed and did not make much sense - how does everything go from neither of his parents accepting her to everything is fine so quickly......? Head scratcher to me.

Online dating, taking a chance, putting it all out there straight. Colton said he wanted a wife, Karena answered it. They emailed, video chatted, and went for it. She was Gorgeous, he was a a Hunk.
They take this experiment to the next level and HEA.
The had chemistry online and in person.
I thought if only this could be real life.

Colton or Hawk?

Sometimes taking a chance in life(a BIG one!) is a good thing,or should I say life changing. Time doesn't mean anything when you're in love, it's how you respond to those heart flutters and feelings of being complete when you're with the other person that matters.

Love love loved this book it's a little bit different but it works.Colton and Karen's made the perfect couple. They met online not to find love but for different purposes and that all changed. I'm looking forward to reading more about this couple in the other books in this series
