Three Short Blasts is a collection of three original stories that are not to be found anywhere else. There is one story in each of the three series that I write: The Romney and Marsh Files, Acer Sansom and Booker & Cash.
Going on industry standard word count, the three stories range from forty to sixty pages of a paperback novel in length – significantly longer than short stories but not quite novellas.
There’s also an introduction in the book where I explain the motivation behind it. You can skip that bit if you like and get straight into the reads, which I hope you will enjoy.
I really enjoyed this book, Acer was good up to his fun and games in Istanbul, Romney and Marsh for me did no favours to the series. Booker and Jo Cash was by far the best of the three for me, a totally complete story makes me look forward to the release of the third book in this series.
Very much enjoyed the Booker & Cash story (which was why I got the book) and was quite intrigued by the Acer Sansom character and that story; I may well look at other Acer Sansom tales from Oliver Tidy. I didn't like the Romney and Marsh characters or their story, which was much more straight ahead police procedural. Not for me I'm afraid. Still, two out of three ain't bad!
Oliver Tidy is a very versatile writer. Each of these short blasts were very different from each other but his stories and characters remained just as good as the books.
Another great read from one of my favourite authors, collecting 3 short stories one from each of his published series, The Romney Marsh one was interesting somewhat out of the usual vein for the series but enjoyable nonetheless. I met Acer for the first time, and enjoyed a nostalgic journey around Istanbul with him. Then on to the short from my favourite of his series Booker and Cash and this one really didn't disappoint it was a throughly enjoyable read from start to finish. A great introduction to this author if you haven't met him already
I adored the short stories on all of the characters in the three series. Would recommend to anyone who likes mysteries. I am really looking forward to next in the series of Booker and Cash.
