Software developer Rylan Krause is under the gun. The produce app he’s designing isn’t coming together and time is running out. But a reluctant trip to the grocery store with his brother’s ex-girlfriend gets him up close and personal with vegetables and gives him exactly the inspiration he needs. Miranda Travers is a nutritionist, a four-letter word in Rylan’s pizza, soda and chips lifestyle, but she’s his key resource for the app.
Miranda may have initiated the breakup with Frazer, but Rylan always assumed she preferred guys with his brother’s reserved demeanor. Then the intimacy of a home-cooked meal designed to change his junk food ways leads to an outcome he never imagined. When he realizes that Miranda yearns for a spontaneous guy like him, he’s torn between loyalty to his brother and desire for his brother’s ex.
New York Times and USA Today bestseller Vicki Lewis Thompson believes love makes the world go around and laughter makes the trip worth taking. The recipient of RWA’s Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award and the author of more than ninety books, Vicki pioneered a new kind of romance hero with Nerd in Shining Armor. Following the success of her nerd stories, Vicki launched a boisterous paranormal series featuring a matchmaking witch and wizard, an ADD dragon named George, and a black cat inspired by her own precocious feline, Eve.
Review I don’t like to give spoilers on the books that I read. I believe the blurb on the back is enough for you to decide if you will read the book or not. If you choose to read, enjoy!
Cute and sweet, but I hated how repetitive the first part was. I think the word veggies was used 50 times and frankly, grocery shopping bores me.
I did like the main couple and their banter and it is worth a read.
He took a deep breath. “I’ve been processing what you’ve said and I’ve come to a conclusion that blows my circuits.” “What’s that?” He held her gaze. “You were with the wrong brother.” Whoa. There was nothing tentative about that statement. “What . . . what should we do about it?” Amusement flashed in his eyes. “That seems pretty obvious.”
“I love this,” he murmured. “I love seeing how being with me affects you.” She urged him closer. “Any second I might begin to sparkle.” “Any minute I might spontaneously combust.” Her fingers tightened on his glutes. “Then let’s set the sheets on fire.” “Yeah, let’s.”
“Miranda, I’ll sign that thing.” “We can wait a week.” “Oh, really?” Laughing, he pulled her on top of him. “So that’s all it takes to get you to agree with me? Note to self – have sex prior to argument. Saves time and feels awesome.” “Wait, wait!” Straddling him, she sat up. “If I remember correctly, and I’m sure I do, you were the first to give in, so technically I won. Note to self – be naked under bathrobe when arguing. Flash boobs for the win.”
While this does stand alone, pieces will make more sense if you read the first one. Rylan and Miranda have been friends since she dated his older brother, who is also a BMUS partner. He stayed away out of respect for his brother, but they finally acknowledge their feelings.
I love VLT's nerds. All of them, to date. I could especially picture the grocery shopping vs junk food as our family now has a vegan in it, and the fridge is loaded but I hear another member complain that we have nothing to eat... The brother/ex situation was handled well,.. can't wait to see the next one. I'm giggling to myself thinking what could happen. poor Frazer... not.
I enjoyed Rylan and Miranda's story. It makes me want to try some of her vegetables and find my self a nerd. I'm looking forward to Frazer and Dulcie's story next...It's All Geek To Me. I also want to know what Garrett is up to.
I busted out laughing during the conversation while the main characters were eating the first meal she cooked for them. That was awesome. Great one sitting story. It's the second office romance book in the series. The first book is also recommended and the next book sounds pretty good too.
I love Vicki's books, but I can't get into a book when the female lead ends up with the ex's brother. I mean... isn't there an unwritten male code abut that??? If not, it should be.
I love Vicki's nerd series so much I knew I needed to read this book. It's a good story and I love the characters, but this isn't quite as good as the original nerds that I love.
The overall story arc of flushing out a villain selling commercial secrets runs through these novellas, but each one focuses on an individual company member. Light, easy to read, trademark VLT fun.
