One night.
One hookup.
 One text that changed everything.

Jeffrey Maddox prefers books to people. The one person he loves without reservation? His sister, Daisy. Who has an older, married lover. And he just happened to leave his phone behind, so Jeff can text the guy’s wife and tell her to do the responsible thing—take back the trash that’s poisoning his baby sister’s life.

Except Karyn James isn’t the woman he thought she’d be. When Jeff meets her for coffee on a snowy night, he never expects to want her.

For himself. Over and over again.

Karyn’s not looking for a rebound hookup, and she’s had enough of men now that she’s divorcing her philandering husband. But Jeff has magic fingers, and not only just on his phone. Suddenly she’s not certain she’s willing to turn her back on the most amazing—and amazingly hot—night of her life. Except it might already be too late.

But she’s not giving up until she’s given back some hot text of her own…

With Hot Text, Cari Quinn once again proves to me the reason why she is my go to author when it comes to quality erotica that delivers on all fronts. For some Hot Text might be “offensive” in the sense that sexual relations takes place between a married woman who is on the verge of divorce and the hero. But hey, lets face it; in real life things do not exactly go according to our well laid plans. If it did we would all be married to men who wouldn’t let us out of our bedrooms because they cannot get enough of giving us multiple orgasms. And yes, I digress but I just love the fact that Cari is bold enough and is daring enough to write about scenarios that might not be sometimes well received by 100% of the romance reading population but nevertheless for fans like us who want and crave something different, Cari ALWAYS hits the spot with plots of the said nature.

Jeffery Maddox is the two time divorced older brother of Daisy Maddox whose current beau is the married Lonny James who just rubs Jeff the wrong way. Wanting to do something about Jeff before he can break Daisy’s heart, Jeff takes an opportunity that presents itself and meets up with Lonny’s soon to be ex-wife with the intention of asking her to take Lonny back and work things out.

But from the moment Jeff and Karyn lay eyes on each other, the sparks that fly between them are evident. For Karyn who is a pre-school teacher who defines herself as an average person, who has had 10 years of marriage which had failed miserably when her husband had asked for a divorce is not prepared for her almost forgotten body parts to come alive at the sight of the very fine Jeff whose gruff nature just calls to something deep inside of her.

A night of unforgettable and decadent sex follows, a night during which every misconception that Karyn has ever had regarding herself and her sexuality is put to bed by Jeff who focuses on her with an intensity that just drives her crazy with wanting. For Jeff, its not just a night of sex and he falls hard and fast only to face the harsh and brutal face of reality come morning when none other than Lonny strolls in.

In my opinion, Cari has done what very few authors manage to do in a novel of this length. She has taken two characters who have no inkling of the other’s existence until the night that changes their lives forever, showed sides of them that both endears and makes them unforgettable to the reader and together with that Cari has pitted them in a situation that you don’t find in the average romance novel. And that’s what made this book a winner for me and of course the out of this world scorching heat that Jeff and Karyn generates right from the very start is worthy of mentioning.

I loved Jeff’s character right from the very minute he said “Not a screamer, huh? Gonna prove you wrong.” Now, who in the world can fault the man behind that logic is just beyond me. Jeff is someone who is wary of marriage and rightfully so when his previous two marriages hadn’t worked out very well. He is the gruff and taciturn type and not much of a people’s person, but yet in my eyes, Jeff communicates just damn fine when he wants to. I loved his intensity, the way he just takes hold of Karyn and plunges his way into a world of sensuality with her that leaves both of them hungering for more of where that came from. His take charge attitude, the way he solely focuses on giving Karyn a night she would not forget anytime soon and of course the way he can find humor in those little things just made him a favorite hero of mine.

Karyn doesn’t expect her world to turn upside down when she answers the text message she receives from her husband’s mobile phone. And when Jeff turns out to be the man who proves to her in just one night how wrong she has been in neglecting herself, her wants, needs and desires the past couple of years, Karyn knows its time to take charge of her life and let go of the past and fight for all those things that she has accepted as her due. Divorce is hard and messy on anybody and doubly so for Karyn when she cannot make up her mind, when she still cannot fully comprehend the fact that 10 years of her life had just meant nothing to the man she had shared it with when he had asked for a divorce. It is her encounter with Jeff that bursts through the bubble she has wrapped herself in and it is then Karyn realizes that has a lot of “growing up” to do before she can proceed with whatever it is between Jeff and herself.

I loved the concept, the hero and the heroine and of course the neat little epilogue that Cari tucked in at the end. If you like myself are a fan of tastefully done erotic romances that deliver on the not-your-average tropes and a hero to definitely drool over; Hot Text is the novella for you! For fans of Cari Quinn, this is another little goody which would have to tide us fans over until she can publish another decadently sinful novel for us to enjoy!

Rating from the sunny side of life: 5/5

Reviewer’s Note: I just had to mention this as part of this review. I was listening to Give Me Everything by Pitbull feat Nayer, Ne-Yo while reading this and somehow, that song ended up being one that was perfectly in sync with the events that took place in the story.

I loved the following part of the lyrics:

Tonight I will love love you tonight
Give me everything tonight
For all we know we might not get tomorrow
Let’s do it tonight
I will love love you tonight
Give me everything tonight
For all we know we might not get tomorrow
Lets do it tonight
[...]
Grab somebody sexy tell ‘em hey
Give me everything tonight
Give me everything tonight

I won this book from the author! Woot, thanks Cari!

I'm giving this book 5 stars because I so loved the chemistry between the hero and heroine. From the moment they meet in a coffee shop until the time he leaves her house the next day, I was enthralled. And all hot and bothered, too! *winks* This couple was very sexy, very believable, and the writing made you feel how intense and surprising their encounter was for each of them. I would've liked for the ending to feel less rushed and to see some of what happened off screen between them at the end--it would've made those final pages more emotionally compelling in my opinion, but I enjoyed the story so much this is a small complaint. If you're looking for a short, hot, fun read, I recommend! Oh, and read with a glass of red!

How I got this book: eARC from author

Jeff’s younger sister is dating a married man and Jeff does not approve. When Lonny’s wife calls the phone that was left behind, Jeff texts her to meet up. Hoping to convince Karyn to go back to her loser husband so his sister can move on, Jeff meets Karyn for coffee. Only after a few hours with her, Jeff is no longer sure that he wants her to go back to her husband.
Karyn’s marriage fizzled out and with Jeff’s flirting she renews her sexuality. After some steamy text messages they get together for a night of pleasure and laughter. But when Lonnie stops by the next morning, will the light of day drive a wedge between Karyn and Jeff?

I’ll admit that I was a little worried about this book. I am not a fan of cheaters. Never have been, never will be, and every time I’ve read it I get annoyed and frustrated. With this novella, it’s obvious that neither Lonny or Karyn has any hope of this relationship going further. The divorce papers are in the works, but not filed yet.

That made me feel a little better. But I’ll admit that the one thing that really had me being on board with this was the way that Quinn handled the “morning after.” Yes, Lonny stopped by. Yes, Jeff got jealous and annoyed. Yes, Karyn became confused as to what she wanted and where she was at in life. But instead of Karyn and Jeff settling, they both did what they wanted, despite the consequence at that exact moment. I liked that, I liked that they thought about the future and not just in the moment. It really did make the book that much better for me.

The sexy times in this book were pretty hot. Jeff isn’t afraid to get a little down and dirty, and he is more than willing to show Karyn the ropes. But despite the fact that they got down and dirty they also had a really sweet moment together too. I loved how caring they were to each other while doing the painting, and how erotic it was in all it’s simplicity. I think I might have to go out and buy some nontoxic body paints now….

All in all I thought this was a well done novella. It is short, but it also is sexy, emotional and does not rush anything. I was happy with the choices that Quinn made and the direction of the story.
I give Hot Text a B-

My first read of Cari Quinn's books and I am very happy I took the opportunity to do so. I truly enjoyed her writing and boy, can she write smexy, hot scenes.

Jeff Maddox, twice divorced, is a book editor and big brother to Daisy who is dating a recently separated man (Lon). As a big brother, he steps in to interfere in his sister affair hoping to end it. After Jeff found Lon's phone, he thought to call his wife to inform her of his activities. Eeeeevil right? But the plot to end that affair backfired. Instead, it leads him to an affair of his own, an affair to remember and one never to regret.

Karyn, who is in a middle of a divorce, receives a text from a stranger wanting to return her husbands' phone. Willing and very curious she meets him for coffee. However, Karyn is already aware of Lon's activity and not a bit bothered by it. They had fallen out of love a while back. Funny how things work out that way. =D

It started out with a single text, a cup of coffee together, smexy texts then a "booty call". Their texts and conversations were full of sexual innuendos, which was fun to read. I love a good flirty couple. And in spite of just having met, both Karyn and Maddox were comfortable exploring each other.

Divorce is never easy and finding someone new is hard to do. This sounds like a very plausible story as we live in a world were divorce is a rising status, not always a bad thing, But I do want to say that I applaud anyone who can survive a divorce and rise up to cont. to believe love is still a possibility for them.

Just like our H/h, without taking a chance, they wouldn't have found their HEA. And in spite of this book being too short, Ms. Quinn leaves us with a very satisfying ending.
No doubt that I will continue to read more of Ms Quinn's work!

Notable quote/scene:
~Sexy window scene and painting scene.
~”Reason ten million why women and men had trouble being friends. Once attraction flavored the stew, good manners went out the window.’
~Jeff’s text: “what r u wearing? Karyn: “Boxers & my shotgun’s beside me…”

Technical book editor Jeff Maddox doesn’t approve of his sister’s new boyfriend. This boyfriend is technically still married, although very close to a divorce and he doesn’t want his sister getting anymore serious with this guy. Staying with his sister for the weekend, he notices the boyfriend leaves his cell phone at her house. When the boyfriend’s wife calls the cell phone, Jeff decides to make a move and contact her to return the phone, and at the same time, convince the wife to get her husband away from his sister.

Jeff text’s her to set up a meeting at a coffee shop. But after Jeff meets Karyn, a spark of attraction ignites and he can’t get her out of his mind. He takes a chance and sends some dirty texts, and a very hot night of real sex follows.

Hot Text by Cari Quinn is an erotic novella about two people who don’t know each other, but learn a lot about the other in one night of very hot sex. Although Jeff’s profession sounds a little more on the nerdy side, and he is not a people person, he has quite an edge to him. A little rough and dirty. He doesn’t really bring warm fuzzies to the relationship (or at least to the one night of sex) but I kind of liked that about him. His harder edge definitely appealed to me.

Karyn is absolutely sure she wants to get divorced, but it is still a big step for her. She hasn’t worked out all of the details quite yet and so I’m glad that the author puts in a big jump forward at the end. Karyn is definitely not ready to just jump into another relationship to start. I do wish maybe this book had been a bit longer to analyze Karyn’s issues more. I also think these two feel very familiar with each other quite quick. Especially when they first meet in the coffee shop, their dialogue felt a little off. They bring up vibrators and orgasms – topics that just seemed abrupt for strangers. Although, I suppose it set the mood for subsequent sexin’

Overall though I liked this novella. I think Jeff’s edgy demeanor made it work for me.

Jeff really hates his sister new loser boyfriend. For a start the man is a jerk but his opinion isn’t improved by the fact the man is still married. When he sees that said loser has left his phone at his baby sister’s house, he takes the chance to text the man’s wife to try to convince her to get him to keep his hands to himself. Upon meeting her, he finds himself in an interesting dilemma. Does he get the creep away from his precious sister? Or does he give into the temptation to try to get the lovely Karyn for himself? After realising that his sister is big enough to make her own mistakes, he sexts Karyn (Sex Text) and hopes that she felt the same sparks he did. When she responds in kind, they embark on a sex fuelled night that changes everything.

Cari Quinn creates very sexy novellas and this one was no exception. I understand that some people may find Karyn’s marital status objectionable in a romance, but I had no qualms about it. As far as I was concerned, she was separated and he was sleeping with another woman. This gave Karyn a clear path to do whatever the hell she wanted in my eyes. Lonny (the ex) had made her feel like she wasn’t worth anything and that she wasn’t good in the whole bedroom department. I loved the fact that she responded to the sexy text, that she took that risk. Once she experienced sex with a skilled lover, she realised that it was Lonny who was the flop in the bedroom. Jeff was attentive, skilled and seemed to enjoy the fact that he was with her; he made her feel like a sexy woman. Jeff had a slightly rougher edge which always appeals to me . He wanted her, so he pursued her. He was quite sexually aggressive (yum!) and showed her what sex should really be like. It was sexy and, quite frankly, so erotically charged it made me a little clammy 

Overall, this was a sexy little number that kept me clicking the pages till the end. The raunchy sex kept me entertained and the epilogue at the end gave me some warm and fuzzies to balance it all out. A recommended read.

Cari Quinn’s, Hot Text, is most certainly that, a very hot read. This is a story of two average, everyday normal people who meet under some unusual circumstances and then proceed to light the sheets on fire.

Jeff Maddox, the hero of this story, is a technical book editor, but also a meddlesome older brother with a bad attitude and a bit of a recluse. When Ms. Quinn first introduced this character, I wasn't sure this guy was my idea of a hero. He’s been divorced twice, he’s sticking his nose in business he shouldn’t be and he’s got a foul mouth. Have no fear readers, he is all of these things but he is also a man with a tender heart, a sense of humor and he knows how to treat a lady. I loved him. Ms. Quinn does a marvelous job of getting into Jeff’s head and making her readers see him for the truly wonderful man he is.

Karyn James, the heroine of Hot Text, is a quirky preschool teacher with a passion for painting and peppermint lattes. The author allows her readers to bear witness to this character’s journey of self-discovery through Karyn’s thoughts and actions. I really liked Karyn because she is one of those characters readers can identify with. She’s an average woman facing some difficult times in her life but she isn’t really dealing with them; she feels broken and just can’t move on and find peace in her life.

Hot Text is a beautifully written character study of two people who are almost complete opposites yet seem destined to be together. The love scenes are exceptionally hot, with plenty of foreplay, believable dialogue and a little humor to keep it even more real. Ms. Quinn has outdone herself with this story of everyday average characters that discover each other and themselves.

Although Hot Text is a short story, it is the perfect length to curl up with on a lazy afternoon, with a pitcher of your favorite frozen drink -- you are going to need it -- and just enjoy!

My Review:
Simple overview: One incredibly hot, sexy night after a chance encounter where two soul mates meet, but the timing is just not where it needs to be.

Whoa, this book was good and so powerful. There was something about these two characters that I simply connected with...both of them. Jeff & Karyn are two people that have that instant connection that everyone dreams about. They just mesh perfectly.

The majority of this book is about the 10 hours after Jeff & Karyn meet. Their chemistry is instant and explosive and completely overwhelming for both of them. It was really cool to read a story where the characters were so completely perfect for each other in a completely natural way. There was nothing forced or dishonest about how they come together. I found myself smiling throughout the reading of the majority of this book (even my husband commented on the way that I kept smiling) because there was such a sweetness to these two characters together and how perfect at ease they are when they are together.

But Karyn is in the middle of getting a divorce (her soon to be ex-husband is sleeping with Jeff's little sister...it's how they meet,) and her life is too complicated and messy for the high emotions that they are both feeling. She needs to get things straightened out. Everything about this book is done just so perfectly. I wasn't sure when I read the description and realized that Karyn is married when the book takes place, but Cari writes this story so brilliantly. I should have trusted her on this one. It's fantastically written. The timing of everything is perfect. Just really a beautiful book and romance...and did I mention sexy?? Uh, yeah....it is a Cari Quinn novel...seriously sexy too! Love the body painting! Another fabulous read!

I have loved some of Cari Quinn's stories, and while I liked this one, I didn't love it. I liked the premise, but it seemed to move too fast for me. It would have been more realistic if they'd met, talked for hours, he texted her (non sexual) later that night... maybe texted her the next morning, maybe they'd meet again, maybe the texts turn sexual... But the fact that the texts were immediately sexual and he's at her house that first night were just off-putting for me. I'm not against sex on a first "date", it just didn't seem to fit the characters or the situation. I suppose it led to a great night for them, and I enjoyed that Jeff wanted to show Karyn that she was selling herself short by just settling for so-so sex, but it would have seemed more likely if there was more buildup. Especially considering how reserved Karyn was.

It's possible I'm just in a mood and nothing is hitting my hot buttons right now. Maybe I'll reread it later to see if I change my mind. It wasn't long, so it wouldn't take long to reread.

First let me say that I love the cover! It is so freaking hot! Second, I love that Jeff isn't your typical hero. He doesn't have smooth moves, he has a potty mouth (and is downright crude at times) and he'd rather be surrounded by books than be around a bunch of people.

Author Cari Quinn knows how to write hot, erotic stories with well-developed characters and plot. Even though Hot Text is a novella, I felt like I read a full-length novel. Even though Jeff and Karyn hit the sheets hours after just meeting, I loved that the romance came after the sex, if that makes sense. Too many romance novels (of all sub-genres) have a tendency to have the hero and heroine rush to the I Love Yous and sometimes I find that unrealistic. I don't want to give too much away but I loved how Karyn realized that in order to possibly have a relationship with Jeff, she needed to work on herself first.

Hot Text is another home-run by Quinn. My only complaint (which is small) is that there wasn't enough sexting! I was hoping for more dirty texting between Jeff and Karyn. But that's okay. They more than made up for it when they got creative with Karyn's paints

Hot for teacher takes on a whole new meaning in this book.
Take one editor, add a dash of paint, a bottle of cheap wine, a gorgeous studio and mix liberally with a preschool teacher trying to get a handle on sexting and you get Hot Text.

Divorce is hard on anyone, but when you're living in a limbo of your own making and come face to face with all the wrongs of your past how can you mix falling in love into that equation? Jeff and Karyn ask themselves that same question and both come up with answers they'd rather not deal with. Not when they've finally found that one person that makes each of them feel alive.

Mz. Quinn always treats a short story with a touch of reality to even out all the off the charts sex she unerringly provides. Reality sucks and making those hard decisions isn't easy for Karyn when she's finding her way around a new start when she hasn't even dealt with the end of her marriage.

Bravo, Mz. Quinn, for never letting your characters find the easy way out. It makes for a much more satisfying read.

Truly.

I read Hot Text by Cari Quinn as a selection on Kindle Unlimited. Hot Text is a sexy tale of a big brother, Jeffery Maddox, trying to look out for his baby sister, Daisy, who is dating and sleeping with a married man, Lon James, who says he is separated from his wife, Karyn. When Lon accidentally leaves his phone, an actual flip-phone, behind at Daisy's apartment. Jeff's apartment is being fumigated and he had spent the night at Daisy's; after finding the sleazebag's phone, Jeff texts Karyn thinking he would be telling the wife about her cheating husband.

Karyn receives the text and decides to meet with the person who had text her. Not knowing what to expect, she is surprised when she finds it easy to talk with Jeff and assure him that she was definitely divorcing the sleazebag. The attraction between Jeff and Karyn is hot and sexy. Hot Text is a fun read, sexy and sweet.

This book is what I initially Loved about Cari Quinn!

The very first book I ever read from Cari Quinn was Jingle Bells - and with that I was in love with this Author. A quick, hot, steamy read that was somehow a complete and gratifying story. This is exactly what you get here with Hot Text! A little over two hours to read, but so very satisfying!! Quinn is able to give you the set up to a wonderful story that is realistic and vivid in your mind. She is able to quickly loop you into the psyche of the characters and suck you into their world and have you rooting for their happily ever after. Best Part? You can be taken into their world in an afternoon and be home in time for dinner!

This was a quick, HOT, steamy read. Jeff is mad that his sister Daisy is spending too much time with an older married man. When the guy gets a text from his "wife", Karyn, Jeff decides to respond and meet her. He wants her to know what kind of man she's married to. Karyn agrees to meet Jeff and the attraction is mutual. They talk for several hours before going their separate ways. But Jeff can't get her out of his mind and texts her when he gets home. The texts are steamy and Jeff goes to Karyn's place. The night is non-stop steamy, hot passion. I will never look at paint the same way again!

A quick, fun, STEAMY read!

Cari has given us real characters that most readers can empathize with. Karyn is soon-to-be-divorced, Jeff is a single guy; they meet by chance thanks to Jeff’s sister and her questionable taste in men. When they meet, the chemistry is instant and explosive. There are some personal issues on both sides of the bed, and I feel they could have been explored more, but maybe I just have a preference for novels over novellas :)

I liked the story, and I love the author. If you’re looking for a fast, fun and sexy read, this is for you!

My thoughts:
I really enjoyed this short story. I love the idea of a big brother over stepping his bounds only to find himself in way over his head. A woman learning to move on and finding that with the right timing and the right guy anything is possible.
Thank you to Cari for sharing your wonderful story with me.
If you want a quick, hot read please give Hot Text a chance.

Hot Text was a fun, dirty, quick read from the queen of sexy reads. Cari Quinn delivers her usual steam factor in this fun, fantasy novella. What starts as a quick text quickly escalates into a night of erotic passion for 2 lonely people, one who is divorced and one who is in the process of getting divorced. There is an element of cheating in this novella so make note of that if that is a trigger. Otherwise, sit back, enjoy this fun, sexy romp!

Hot Text is a rowdy romp of a read! Starting when his sister's married one night stand leaves behind his phone, Jeff calls the wife back after she calls. Little does he know, Karyn is going to become the love of his life. A little cheesy and a lot of emphasis on the sexy times, Hot Text is an interesting read. I was hoping for a bit more development from the story, as it seemed deemphasized at a number of moments.

Jeff didn't like his little sister running around with a married man. When the opportunity came up to tell the little wife what her cheating husband was up to he leaped on it. The dirt-bag left his cell at his sisters and the wife was texting. Jeff set up a meet with her but got more than he bargained for in the process. This is a very HOT read with interesting characters. I would recommend this book. No cliffhangers and a HEA.

Hot for the teacher! Jeff and Karyn meet after a chance text message. The chemistry between the two is combustible. The couple hits a few roadblocks. Jeff is somewhat of an introvert but comes out of his shell for her. Karen is inexperienced in the bedroom, but Jeff brings out her wild side in just one night. Great short read!

I loved that Karyn, the heroine in this book, was a strong female character and she stood up to her soon-to-be ex-husband. She also took time to make sure she and Jeff had a future together after their quick, initial get together. This was a fun and sexy story and I would recommend it to readers.
