Eleven-year-old Madison suspiciously eyed the handsome fourteen-year- old boy—Joseph, AKA “Tiny”—who casually puffed on a joint. His heroin-addicted father dropped him on her doorstep, claiming the two shared a mother. Eager to prove him wrong, Madison took him inside their tattered home to introduce him to her mother.
There, in that tiny trailer, the pair looked at Madison’s strung out mother and realized the only way to survive was by leaning on each other.
Her mother’s nonstop string of Johns.
Scraping by for food.
Witnessing horrors no children their age ever should.
Every minute was a nightmare... that culminated in murder when Tiny was forced to defend Madison from an abuser with fatal consequences.
As an adult, still struggling to provide for her younger siblings, Madison battles against scars from the past and then enters a new world of chaos. After being released from prison, twenty-year-old Stone is a different person with a new name. He thought he was going back to his family. He thought everything was going to be the same. He was wrong. Their love for each other had grown. Love they weren't supposed to feel. There was a new man in the mix, taking Madison away from him. They face new obstacles and challenges, and this was only the beginning. Will they act on their forbidden love? Or will they let go?
From the author of ATrevido and Award-Winning, Murder in Cazenovia, comes a gripping Dark Romance about inner strength to endure unspeakable odds and the unbreakable power of love.
This story is not for the faint of heart. Potential triggers include drugs, prostitution, abuse and violence. Please read at your own risk.
What in the ever loving shit is this garbage? It wasn't even the possible incest situation that was the issue it was the psycho boss, Andrew, that was ridiculous. And what her brother (?)let's happen to her on her birthday? Really? Why couldn't she have made the decision to put a stop to it BEFORE she went through with it. Ugh so weird.
Have you ever wanted something you know you absolutely should not want or have? Yet, you just cannot stop that little voice in your head and your heart from wanting it? Stone is an intense story of poverty, loss, strength and unwavering love. A love that is so strong it quite possibly might ruin everyone involved. If you are familiar with Angel Rose’s novels you know that Angel Rose will not lead you on the straight and narrow. You will be led down into a rabbit hole of lies, murder, and sin. Try as you might to figure out which way is up and out and who the bad guys are you won’t be able to. Maddie is a great character, a child really in a woman’s role. Having to grow up way too fast in a cruel world surrounded by everything a child should never be around. Her world changed when Stone entered her shabby little trailer. He was a child himself, learning to be a man and a protector. He too has had to be the man of the house, never being a carefree boy. Instead of your typical boy meets girl (love those too) love story, you get a dark and gritty forbidden love story. One that at the end of the day might kill both of them. This is a series, I knew there would be a cliff hanger, but, DAMN Angel Rose…. She leaves you hanging on my one single figure on the edge of a cliff here. Humf! I am still pouting! Waiting for book two….
Angel Rose knows dark romance. Those things you pretend don't exist. The worlds you shy away from. Horrible things people do to each other. She unveils these places through her characters eyes. Real people attempting to get by in their short dance upon the earth the only way they can. Angel shows us that even in dark reality, love exists. It pulls the characters together and makes their lives worth living. Romance is the potion which supports Mrs. Roses' characters. It grants them the will to live and keeps them going. In a word, Stone is beautiful. It will make you cringe, cry and gasp in a single sitting. You're emotions will become so confused all you will be able to do is turn the pages. You won't be able to stop. Five stars from me. A word of caution, Stone ends in a cliff hanger. Fortunately part two, Saving Madison, just came out. I know what I am reading tonight.
I just finished this book and I have to admit it, my hands are shaking and my stomach feels like there's a whirlwind of butterflies set loose. This is such a dark, twisted romance where the two lead characters can't seem to get a break!! I've smiled at a few places in through the story that warmed my heart, shed tears where I felt it was broken and completely had the shakes over the intensity of what is being told. This is the first book by Angel Rose I've read and I'm not disappointed in the least. This one has grabbed hold and hadn't let go. There's a major cliffhanger but I'm immediately on my way to start the next one to find out what happens.
I had the pleasure of reading this book as a gift, and I am thankful for the opportunity to give a review. A very well put together and extremely easy read. This was a great story. The characters are batteling a lot, throw in some taboo topics for some young adults and the struggle is real. What these two had to learn to love through will make your heart sad. I am looking forward to seeing more from this author! Well Done Angel!
Dark, twisted with a hint at taboo ♡ What is love? And what constitutes boundaries and relationships as correct or proper? This book will have you questioning what pulls two people together. The relationship started as kids in a downright bad situation yet behind to strengthen an unbreakable bond between them. That's so much that goes on in the pages of the book that will grip you in a multitude of emotional turmoil. It gripped my heart reading the words. Such a fantastic read!
Warning, though I try my best to avoid this, all reviews can contain spoilers of some kind. If you would like to know just my overall opinion of the book, and otherwise go into reading it blind, please scroll down to my overall and would I recommend it section.
I Voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Right off the bat, I will say that I tend to not be a fan of novellas. This is not because of some weird I just don’t like them thing but rather a they are use plane hard to write without making things feel way too rushed, therefore I have a harder time connecting to a character. I am thrilled to say that this was not a problem with this book.
Our story starts with our hero Stone being dropped off at the home of the woman who his druggie father clams is Stone’s mother. Stone is only 14, but being surrounded by drugs and the lowest of low people society has to offer, he is forced to be shockingly tough in order to survive. Despite all this, Stone is still secretly hoping to find a cookie cutter mother waiting for him. What he finds is another situation just like what’s he’s been going through with the added bonus of a beautiful 11 year old girl with the most beautiful eyes he has ever seen.
Madison is tough as steal and sweet as candy. She has had to live with taking care of her drug and man addicted mother her whole life, while facing the dangers of being a beautiful little girl in a bad part of town on her own. That is until Stone comes along and self declares himself her protector. The bond they form is unbreakable, but that’s all in the past now. Stone took his oath seriously and has killed to protect the woman he has loved since he was 14 and now finds himself struggling to pull his life together.
Wow, what an amazing bond. I mean seriously, this whole intimate feelings involving such young kids is usually not my thing, not even when it is for only a short little segment to start things off, but the characterization on this book is so spot on it pulls me in. Both Stone and Madison have faced such hell that they aren’t really innocent kids anymore, and the way they react to these very new feelings is just wow worthy.
Now that they are grown, will the two be able to find a way to let go of the love they have for each other, or will they put all the road blocks behind them and embrace what they both know they shouldn’t? To make this answer more complicated, Madison finds herself cornered by a powerful man. How will she and Stone pull themselves out of this one, and will Stone be pushed to spill blood once more to keep Madison safe?
Wow the struggle these two feel is incredible! Thanks to circumstances of their past, they both feel being with each other is not only wrong but a line they can’t cross, yet the pull between them is just so strong. I loved the push and pull that happened between Madison and Stone. They are so in love with one another that I could really feel the longing coming off the page in waves. For a novella, the way they grow and start to push through all this grabbed me in a way I was not expecting form this kind of book.
Like I mentioned, books this short usually have a hard time making me bond with the characters, and I will say that the emotional connection I made to the characters in this book pale in comparison to that of a full novel. However, I was pull in by this book enough that I cried for one of the characters pretty early on in the book. I was not ready for that kind of emotional reaction in this book, but was so pleased it happened.
This is usually the kind of dark romance that puts me off, I more appreciate the I want you and there for I will have you no matter what kind of dark romance over the raised in this life kind that is shown in Stone, but while this book is not a top favorite, I still found myself enjoying the book and getting lost in the world Angel Rose has put together. The characters are very realistic and hold trust to how I would picture anyone who grew up that way would be. I think this mixed in with a burning desire to see what they do about their feelings really pushed this book forward for me.
I feel I do need to mention that there were some points where I felt what the characters were doing in the midst of the situation was strange, and at times I lost track of where some of the characters were in the scene. This could have been due to the few writing mechanic issues in the book, but I more feel this is just the nature of a novella. Since the story is short, there are not a lot of details, deep character feels, or elaborate scenes. I do feel I run into this in any novella though and it did not distract from this story too much.
On a final note, with this not only being a novella but also a side of dark romance that is usually a little to dark for me, I still really enjoyed this read. The author did an amazing job with a tough genre and a tougher subject. The amount of properly placed personality placed in both Stone and Madison was beautifully done.
Overall: This is a twisted dark romance, which to me means its a darker than normal side to dark romance. It is filled with rough and tumble characters from the worst parts of town. The characters all act as you would expect people who grew up around junkies would act, and the romance in it is more born out of caring for and protecting the ones the characters love rather than sweeping anyone off their feet. There are confusing points of the novella as well as tough subjects and a few writing mechanic problems, however none of that stops this book from being a good read.
I found myself really being pulled into this story despite all the things that made me think I wouldn’t have been. While I don’t always love what the characters do, I loved the way they were written and how realistic they came across. The obstacles they face is also very interesting and I can not wait to see how the rest of the story goes.
Would I Recommend It: As always when it comes to dark romances, I hesitate to just jump right in there and say “yes, yes go buy this book.” Since this is a twisted dark romance, I really have to say it depends. This romance is dark, the situation, the love shared, and even the characters themselves are all dark. The subjects they face are very tough and there are very few hot and steamy scenes that melted my heart. If you are ok with all that, and none of it can cause any triggers for you than I would say yes I do. Despite the few writing road bumps this is a very enjoyable read and I am sure anyone who is into the darker side of dark romance will enjoy it.
Wow… this story completely wrecked me in the best and worst ways possible. I went in expecting a dark read, but I wasn’t prepared for how real and raw it would feel. The book starts with Madison and Tiny (Joseph) as kids, two broken souls thrown together by a cruel twist of fate. From the very first chapter, I could feel their pain, confusion, and that desperate need to survive. The writing pulls you straight into their world, a world no child should ever have to live in.
As the story moves forward and they grow up, the emotional intensity only deepens. Madison’s struggles to hold her family together while carrying so much trauma felt heartbreakingly authentic. And Stone (Tiny, now grown) coming back into her life after prison… that was both beautiful and tragic. Their bond is powerful dark, complicated, and forbidden but you can’t help rooting for them even when you know it’s wrong in every way.
This isn’t an easy book to read. There are scenes that made me flinch, moments that broke my heart, and others that gave me hope. It deals with addiction, abuse, poverty, and survival but also redemption and love in its most painful form.
If you like dark romance with heavy emotions, moral gray areas, and unforgettable characters who claw their way out of hell together, this one is worth every page. Just make sure you’re ready for it, it will stay with you long after you finish.
Stone opens the Forbidden Love series with a raw, unsettling look at childhood trauma, fractured families, and survival at the edges of innocence. Angel Rose doesn’t soften the realities, addiction, neglect, and emotional confusion are presented with stark honesty. Gritty and emotionally charged, this is a provocative coming-of-age story that sets a dark, compelling tone for the series.
Another train wreck story, one you can see coming. Majority of my review is going to be a spoiler because i just couldn't with this book. Pity i'm going to have to restrain myself for the Zon review.
Joseph aka Stone aka Tiny although he hates that name. Maddison aka maddie. These are the main characters we have and who this story is about.
Joseph, aka Tiny, never knew his mother. According to his father, she left when he was born. Right after his thirteenth birthday, his father was diagnosed with the beginning stages of lung cancer and decided to continually stay high rather than deal with the disease. The disability check was just enough to pay for their trailer and utilities but not really enough for groceries. And Tiny was ALWAYS hungry. Not only that but where school was suppose to be a reprieve for the harshness of his reality, it only made things worse. The teachers didn't like him because of his father's reputation with the drugs. Add Tiny's angry, rebellious nature and you had a combination for disaster. Who could blame him? He had a father who was busy with drugs and whoring around while the son was continually in fights to defend himself and his old man against the dealers wanting their money or retribution often times leaving Tiny either in Juvie or the hospital. When his father pulled up outside a ratty looking trailer telling him he needed to get his clothes and go inside where his mother was, of course Tiny was angry. Before he could barely make it to the door, his father had pulled away leaving him to face a young girl out in the yard. Eleven year old Madison had her own demons she was living with. Her mother was a drug addict and prostitute. The shame of that alone was enough to humiliate anyone, but Madison looked like she was at least fifteen so the same crude clientele her mother had would often humiliate and instill fear in her.
Sorry, the twisted romantic in me,right or wrong can get behind a boy and girl, then man and woman having a possible sibling connection but the rest ? Dear Lord, but the rest ? The rest of all the go through is soo dark and depressing to me,might make the executives over at "Lifetime Movies" think twice, and if you've ever just read the titles on their movie list you'll know what I mean... At the moment they have titles like, "His secret family" and "Pretty little Addict" and then either movies w/Abducted in the title or "Perfect Roommate,Marriage,Nanny,Teacher and Family and w/"Lifetime" you know their all GIANT oxymorons because NOTHING is EVER "perfect" in their movies... Honestly if you fight depression or a depressive nature as I do,stay f a r ,f a r away from that channel all their movies are depressing as Hell... Now honestly I'm not trying to attack this book despite this might sound,I felt knocked for six when I saw just how rough and violent Stone and Maddie's story was sadly I wasn't prepared for it, yes I know it was gonna rough to some degree but not like this and then the n top of it all a cliffhanger... Deep sigh,1st in a series doesn't always mean cliffhanger but this one is, I'm sorry Ms.Rose but your world is just to rough, raw sorted and gritty for me, Good Luck w/your series but like those movies it's just Not for me.... This is just how I felt p,if you like your stories, raw, rough and gritty, kinda like what I'd imagine a hard MC book might be like you might enjoy it, but it was too much for me... Just "review" wasn't written to sway anyone one ,one way or another just to get it out of me soo I could let go and move on.. Thanks..
Stone by Angel Rose is the first book in the Forbidden series. This book is about Stone AKA Tiny AKA Joseph and Madison AKA Maddie. Stone walks into Maddie's life at a young age under the pretenses that he is her half-brother but both Maddie's mom and Stone's father are unreliable sources due to the fact they are both drug addicts and Maddie's mom is a prostitute. Stone and Maddie are unsure if they are truly related but after Stone's father drops him off at Maddie's doorstep with out looking back they have no choice but to believe him. Stone and Maddie instantly form a bond and Stone will spend his young life protecting Maddie from anything and anyone he can, but when things go to far with that protection one time Stone finds himself in prison for murder and Maddie finds herself alone trying to raise their three younger siblings. Some where along the way Maddie and Stone start developing feelings for one another that siblings shouldn't feel for one another. When Maddie turns 18 she decides she needs a life outside of Stone so she gets a job with an abusive man who threatens to have her younger siblings taken away from her if she doesn't do everything he says. When Stone is released from prison he does everything he can to once again try and save Maddie and figure out of they are truly related. This is a good start to a new series by Ms. Angle Rose. This book will take you on an emotional rollercoaster and will make you cry at least once. The story is written in first person through both Stone's point of view and Maddie's. There are some grammatical errors in the book but not enough to take away from the story. I highly recommend that the reader be over 18 for this story. I give this book 4 stars.
I absolutely love this authors work she has the natural ability that draws you in from the very first page and keeps you sucked in till the very last page.
This story will take you on a emotional roller coaster, ur b on the edge of your seat chewing away at your nails till you get to the point that they are sore you have bitten them so far down....The suspense will keep you reading I even had tears in my eyes as you try to figure what's going to happen next. This is one of the reasons why you pick one of Angel Rose's books be warned you will not be sleeping that night.....
This book is about 14 year old Stone who is sent to go and live with his mum who put nicely not the most natural mum in the world.
Stone also has a 11 year old sister Maddie's who is like a old woman in a young girls body. As soon they set eyes on despite being so young the attraction between the two is hot despite this being a tabboo. Stone does everything on his power to protect Maddie from harm especially when one of their mum's many men come around.
It's not long before Stone is on the wrong side of the law and ends up in prison and sentenced to 6 years but prison changes Stone he went in as a boy but comes and hot alpha male. I am not going to say how or why he ended up in prison though I will say Maddie maybe one of the reasons as to why.
When Stone returns home he soon realises that it isn't just him that loves Maddie and wants protect her from harm. Stone was Maddie's first love and always felt protected when he was around.
This book ends in a cliffhanger and I am hoping we don't have to wait to long for book 2
Stone was like nothing I expected. It had heart. It had grit. It had tears. It had romance, suspense, and forbidden love. Honestly, it was hard to put down. As I read it, I could see it unfolding like a movie. The vivid descriptions and imagery were easy to picture, the dialogue realistic, and the emotional gravity easily felt.
But make no mistake, this is not the normal dark romance. Though it is dark and does have romance and moments of the erotic, it is much more a suspenseful thriller, gruesome and harsh at times. If you’re tired of the typical billionaire romance, Stone flips that concept upside down on its head. I can promise you that.
But it can be very hard to read at times. The realism is a bit unsettling. The ramifications of what the future of the children may be or what the psychological effects might become for the main characters are hard to ignore. And I think it’s very important for a reader to know that. I was not expecting it. This is not a unicorns and rainbows kind of story. It is realistic, contemporary, and cringe-worthy at times, a gritty read that was heart-wrenching, especially the ending.
Angel Rose has created a page turner. She has told a gripping story of forbidden love and its everlasting power. It has that thriller element that makes for great story-telling, great drama, and great suspense. You see the dark side of a life of poverty and its brutal effects while you see the light shades of goodness even against its grip. There are glimpses of hope. There is love. There are streaks of light. And I look forward to the next installment and pray that the lightness can overshadow the dark.
Joseph "Tiny" Shelton is the son of a drug addict and was dropped off in a trailer park when he was 14 years old. When he is sent to prison for murder he reinvents himself as Stone and longs to be back with Madison Stone and her kids.
Madison is in over her head. She is trying to raise 3 kids on her own and has a boss named Andrew Turner who is trying to control her and wants her for himself and will stop at nothing to have her.
Unfortunately there are unresolved feelings between Stone and Madison and both of them do not want to give in to a forbidden love but neither want the other with anyone else. As Stone and Madison face more heartbreak what will they do to hold onto their family?
This was such a beautiful yet heartbreaking book that had me so mad at the situation that Stone and Madison were in.
So it took me a little bit to properly sort out the family dynamics but then everything clicked into place. I felt so bad for Madison with what she had to do to keep her family together and what Stone sacrificed for it all as well.
I absolutely hate Andrew and I hated what he did to Madison and am so worried about what is to come with everything there. I can't believe the things that he did, especially to Daniel and Clarissa.
It was also frustrating me that Stone could not get the answers he needed to figure everything out. I know that would make things much easier but I was still super frustrated!
I am definitely scared about what is to come and I hope Stone and Madison are able to keep everything together!
Maddie is in trouble. She's eighteen, coming out of a broken and abusive home trying to raise her three younger siblings. Her drug-addict mother is dead, her grandmother isn't much better. The only person she can count on is Stone.
And he's in prison, maybe for the rest of his life.
Stone can't wait to get out of prison and see Maddie. He yearns to see her, even through their love is forbidden. When he finally gets out, nothing is the same. She has a job and a boss. A boss that she has to please, a man that wants everything from her. The man who will take her away from Stone forever.
Stone is a dark and taboo romance. Stone and Maddie love each other, but can't be with each other. They might be related, but they might not be. They come from horrible homes, their lives are terrible, but they have each other. Angel Rose does an amazing job of weaving in their tale of two people trying to escape poverty, violence, and drug addiction of their family, to make something better.
But their past haunts them. And if Maddie doesn't please her boss, they'll loose everything. Stone is a dark tale, tragic, haunting, and harrowing. Angel Rose leads you through the black depths of the human soul in the first of her Forbidden Love series.
If you're fan of romance with a dark bent, of stories that don't shy away from brutal realities, then this is a compelling story you won't be able to put down.
I have had this book, well series actually, for awhile now but just have not had much of a chance to read anything other than ARC's or proofread different books for authors but I am now taking that time because I promised to read and review these books. I went into this book completely blind. I didn't even read the synopsis before starting because when I read a book by an author that is new to me, that's how I like to do it. I don't want to know what the story is about and I don't want anyone telling me what the authors writing style is. I like finding all of those things out on my own! This is not a book for people that have issues or triggers with abuse or violence, but it is a part of the story line. One thing I need to touch on is I would have really like more back-story on Stone/Tiny at the very beginning of the book. I kind of feel like I am missing out on some things that could have been told at the beginning, but that may definitely change because this is book is part of a series and I am soooo glad that the other books are already released and that I have them to read! Otherwise I might not be a happy camper because I do not like having to wait for the next book to release before I can read it especially if the first book ends with a bit of a cliffhanger. So I am definitely looking for ward to reading book 2 and book 3.
An interwoven tale of forbidden love. This story will grab you and hold you tight as your thrust into a dark world full of emotional abuse and terrors that really exist in our lives today. Horrors that most people never look up long enough to see it. Ms. Rose has brought to the light the darker, seamier side of the world and introduces us to Stone and Maddie, two lost youths growing up too fast and trying to make the best of what life has dished out for them. Both are from drug addicted parents. Both are struggling to stay safe and grow to adulthood. But Stone finds himself in the protector position and his feelings for Maddie are blooming into more... Maddie is struggling with responsibility...she has her siblings to worry about and she can only live day by day, never knowing what the future will hold. Her closeness to Stone gradually grows into something more... something that warms her soul but is frowned upon by society. The emotional roller coaster ride you will be on with this tale is well worth the price for the ride. Ms. Rose's world is fraught with all the emotions and then some... but underneath it all is Love. A Love for an eternity. You will cry, scream, laugh and cry some more. Her storytelling talents are phenomenal! This is the first time reading her work and I will be back for more. A solid 5 stars on an epic tale of heartache and joy!
Stone by Angel Rose is the first book in The Forbidden Love Series and it kept my attention. This is not your typical bad boy romance novel.
Stone!!!! Wow he is a victim of circumstance just like Maddie. Stone was thrust into Maddie's life when his father left him at her house with he was 13 telling him to stay with his mother. Maddie on the other hand was with her mother and didn't know her father. These 2 lived through many nights of drugs, sex and police being called to their trailer (when they were kids). Stone is in jail on a murder charge but is released with his appeal has been granted. These 2 have had chemistry since they first met and the though of being siblings has kept them from exploring their desires.
Andrew, tall, handsome and rich has his claws into Maddie by holding the one thing she lives for, the kids. He has wants to make Maddie his wife and is threatening to take them away if he doesn't get what he wants.
There is a lot of emotion in this book and most definitely left me wanting more. The character are believable and I found myself crying when there was a death in the family....tore my heart out. Now I'm hoping for HEA (not the case in this first book).
Stone meets Maddie when he's dropped off at her home by his father who claims his mother lives there. Stone grows up with Maddie not know if she's really his sister.
Now that they're both adults, the attraction between them is growing. Stone is a trouble man, who spends time in prison after committing a crime during his teen years. Maddie is struggling to take care of herself along with her younger siblings Bryan, Daniel, and Alyssa.
Maddie works for a man named Andrew, who is also her boyfriend. Andrew can provide Maddie with a good life, however he wants her to give up Stone and the kids or else he'll make her suffer. Andrew is a vile person and the scenes with him abusing Maddie was too much.
As for Stone, even though he and Maddie don't know for certain if they're related, the two are in love with each other. But they never act on their feelings.
The possibility that Stone and Maddie are brothe and sister was a huge ick factor. Also, there was no chemistry between them. Stone says he wants to protect Maddie and would do anything for her, yet he's got a hothead who constantly gets in trouble.
I had high hopes for this book, but there were a number of factors that threw me off.
OMG. This book was pretty darn good. Stone is dropped off to his drug addicted mother, by his drug addicted father. His father wants to get married and having a kid does not fit into his new life with his new wife. Stone meets his "sister" and feels a forbidden attraction to her because of their relationship. Maddie is just as drawn to Stone. She has been living with her mother and the living situation is not a safe one for her because she is a female and the males that her mother has been sleeping with are looking to Maddie as a possible side dish. Stone swears that he will protect Maddie no matter what. He goes to jail and is not able to be there to protect Maddie fully but he does what he can to provide for her. Maddie starts to pull away and enters into an unsafe relationship for the protection that she can receive. This relationship could be the death of her. Will Stone be able to save Maddie before it is too late? That is the question that we are left with by the end of the book. - I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Well this book is certainly not for the faint at heart. This isn't a pretty love story about a brother and sister it's so much more and so much worse. First off they aren't even sure their related. I mean with drugged out parents, a whore for a mother neither of them know for sure. I mean come on his father was stoned when he dumped him and he didn't even know who's house his father dropped him at. This story is filled with crap no one should go through and consequences of bad decision made out of desperation. Like I said it's not a pretty story and sadly it's not a standalone.
Anyway I know it being a series and not a standalone is a no no for some of you, but I gotta say if you're of a mind for a dark read this has all the elements to be a great series. I have read this author before and no I wasn't a fan. This time however I have to say I am enjoying this series more and will be looking into the next book in the series.
Tragic upbringings and characters who are willing to do whatever it takes to get by. It's not the story I was thinking it was going to be - which is a good thing for me as a reader. The characters are quite angry, but that stems from their childhood - or lack thereof. I really never knew where their minds were going most of the time so I was kept guessing while I was reading. The attraction between Tiny/Stone and Maddie was instant when they met as children, but their love may, in fact, be taboo. Every time you think that there might be a light at the end of the tunnel, they seem to get kicked in the ass again. It was a good, fast read with a lot of feeling. It ends on a cliff and with your brain saying WTF! It left me unsure of how I felt about it all, but wanting more of the story. I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
First, I normally don't read books with cliffhangers, (Yes, there is a cliffhanger in this book) but this was different. I can tell you on one hand how many authors I"ve read that write series like these. Anyway, this story follows the lives of Stone and Madison starting at very early ages. In their young lives, they have witnessed drugs, abuse, neglect, and violence. This book is dark and told from each characters point of view. Are they really brother and sister? Who is Andrew really? All I can say is I got totally hooked on the book and couldn't put it down. Luckily, the other two books are out so I will be able to finish the story. That made the cliffhangers easier to handle. If you like dark stories, you will enjoy this book.
I'm not even sure where to start start with this. It wasn't a bad book but it wasn't a great one either. Somewhere in between. It leaves you with many questions because it doesn't really tell the story of what happens in certain areas.
It should have a trigger warning in the beginning because some things are hard for people to read and I found that a certain part in this book was REALLY hard to read for me because it's a trigger for me. I broke down and bawled. It has to do with Bryan. That was my trigger.
The writing is okay but again kind of messy. One minte they're young and next they're grown up. It was confusing. It was all so confusing.
If you like your books dark, I'd recommend it but if you have triggers of any kind, I wouldn't.
Beautiful, emotionally charged read about forbidden love
It's hard to find proper words to describe what kind of feelings this story is stirring in heart and soul. It's about everything that we cannot believe is happening to the people somewhere in the World but in fact we are aware that such things are really happening. It is even harder then not to feel the same what the main characters are feeling and going through. The sadness, the pain, the heartbreak but in all of these there is one person who loves, who is loyal who is going to do everything to protect and to try to make things better. Beautiful, emotionally charged read about forbidden love that was born in world of hardship, tragedy, abuse and drugs.
