Nothing Matters

Rate this book
Nathan
I should never have fallen in love with her. I was just an ordinary boy from the wrong side of town, I'd never be good enough for her. But she didn't see it like that. She loved me, I loved her. This was the real thing.
And then one night, one event changed everything. Now she can't even bear to look at me. I lost the love of my life...and now nothing f**king matters...

Magdala
If ever there was a love at first sight moment, it was when I saw Nathan. I didn't care where he lived, what car he drove, nothing mattered other than our love. Our love was unexpected, but it was real, it was true. He made me crazy, he made me laugh, he made me dream...
And then It happened...and everything we had was lost.

Flynn
She was the girl I never thought I could have, sweet, beautiful, perfect. Why she fell for someone like me, shy, inexperienced, scarred, I couldn't work it out. A brief summer romance, that's all it would ever be.
But circumstances brought us together again and the hardest lessons of love and loss were yet to be learned...

Three lives learning about love and life the hard way
Love, pain, truth
Finding out what really matters...

Nothing Matters #1 is Magdala's story, told in alternate POV, not exactly a cliffhanger ending, but there will be more...needs to be more. This book does NOT involve a love triangle.
Magdala's story continues n Book 3, Things that Matter.
All that Matters #2 is her brother Cassian's story, a concurrent storyline told in dual POV

253 pages, Kindle Edition

This is potentially a great book, and a great trilogy. Magdala is growing up, falling in love (and lust), and encountering life in all its gritty and unpredictable reality. In this first volume alone she goes through joy and sorrow, love and anger, excruciating pain and a kind of restoration. Does Magdala handle all this gracefully, showing what a wonderful person she truly is? Uh... no. Not even a little bit. Because Magdala is as real and ordinary as any of us; and as special.

The stories of her relationships (quite separate) with Nathan and Flynn are told in an unhibited first person narration which alternates between fully developed characters. The book has an authentic and original voice, and descriptions of some events in the book are startlingly true to life. The story is gripping, the pace steady, the plot excellent.

The writing style is unusual. I would describe it as raw, intense, sometimes almost stream-of-consciousness. While there are few proofing errors, I feel that some readers may not find the style accessible. Nevertheless the characterization is so strong, and the story so gripping, that for many of us it will not matter.

This is not mainstream, cookie-cutter romance. It is a serious novel - what will be a trilogy - which happens to centre around romance. It is slightly flawed by a lack of final polish, but is still a very good book - potentially, a great book.

In this book, it had so many things happening, I couldn't keep up but it was evenly paced. It was written well with the chemistry between Magdala and Nathan, and then later with Magdala and Flynn. It was gut wrenching and heart thrilling but I couldn't put the book down. I was a little disappointed with the ending, but now I have to wait to read book 2, 3 & 4. But all in all, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

SO much shit happened in this novel, I can't even explain it without giving it all away. However I'm pissed that we get the start of Cassian's story(the next book) and have to wait for the rest of Magdala's.(book 3) Such BS!!

We’ve all been there. Someone recommends a book in a book club and you think, “Why would I want to read that? That’s not a genre I would ever read.” Then you realize it’s only .99 so what’s the harm in giving it a shot? If you don’t like it, you can always put it down and move on to something else. No harm; no foul.

That’s how I ended up reading an allegedly teen romance novel. I’m a 50 (plus an undisclosed number of year) man and didn’t even read teen romance when I was young. I read epic fantasy novels at that age and, although the genre is nothing more than a romance novel with dragons and swords, never even dreamed of picking up the literary equivalent of a chic flick.

Well, since I spent the .99 and it was staring at me when I picked up my kindle, I decided to delve in and read a few pages. Ten percent in I was so ready to quit I read another chapter. Twenty percent in I was so appalled I read ten percent more. Thirty percent in and I was hoping things would work out. Forty percent in I was heartbroken. Sixty percent in I was feeling better about the whole situation. By the someone cliffhanger ending I was considering buying book two. But I’m an old-guy and I don’t read teen romance novels.

Well written, despite a few minor errors that were easily overlooked because it’s really all about the story. I don’t know how I would feel about my teenage daughter reading the novel (if she were still a teen) because the book is rampant with sexual situations and over-the-top situations that make a more extreme lifestyle seem commonplace. That might just be my more conservative nature however. I do realize that teens have sex, I was one many many many years ago. It’s really more the laissez faire attitude of the parents without much in the way of input, or any control at all, of the situation. The parents just didn’t seem to offer any guidance, or limits, on the main character and I found that a bit disturbing.

Stating that: Well done. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 because I wasn’t able to put it down. That says a lot in and of itself.

**I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own and not influenced by my source.**

I won't lie, I thought this was going to be a simple, straightforward high school romance. Boy meets girl who he thinks is out of his league and high school drama ensues (like a love triangle)--SO NOT THE CASE!

While this book started off that way, it definitely shifted to a darker and more realistic edge. It gets gritty and real and Liana Key does a great job of making the characters evolve.

Take Magdala for example. I honestly didn't care much for her before the "major event". She seemed like a one dimensional character who didn't impress me that much. The same for Nathan. But after that event, they truly evolve as characters and it made me want to keep reading to see how they would handle whatever life threw at them next. The story becomes more of a coming of age one with a dash of romance on the side.

Flynn on the other hand, I loved from the get-go. He was so intriguing and instead of disliking him I really grew attached to his character.

There is more to this novel than "petty" high school drama and I really enjoyed the road this story took! Can't wait to see what happens to them in their next instalment!

Booksmacked review

I'll start by saying that these characters were too young compared to my usual age group
However it was a good book.

You have the boy from the wrong side of the tracks and the girl who has it all.
But as faith has it they fall in love and even though they don't have much in common it just works for them.

Many things happens during the book and I don't know how to comment on those without spoiling it for the coming readers.

So I'll just say that it's a turbulent story with some wtf moments and more of the "I did not see that one coming."
Go read it and enjoy.

The book has a lot going on but well worth reading. Make sure you have a box of tissues near by. Nothing Matters is an emotional roller-coaster. I am team Nathan and Magdala. Of course nothing in life can always go your way and Nothing Matters hits those hard times. Thank you for writing a book where real life events do happen good or bad. Looking forward to the next book.
