I would round this up to a 3.5 ideally.
I've had a long standing interest in Egyptian History but never taken the time to sit down and read a book on the subject, surprisingly!
This was a fairly good and thorough account of a wide variety of subjects appertaining to the various Egyptian Dynasties- beginning to end which is supported by incredible photography and images which I thoroughly enjoyed looking at. A beautiful book sure but a bit misleading from the title.
I appreciate there is a lot we still don't know about the Egyptians, archaeological digs are carried out to this day for that very reason but I wouldn't describe the majority of subjects covered in this book as 'mysteries '. Most areas such as Religion, Politics and Writing are explained and detailed so not really a mystery at all. The title is misleading for sure.
Some chapters were completely enthralling, I particularly enjoyed those on the religion\ Egyptian God and belief system along with mythology as sorts but that was balanced out by the less interesting and more mundane job mysterious subjects such as the interaction between other countries for example which I found quite boring, and didn't hold my interest if I'm honest but that's probably personal prference.
Overall, wasn't what I was expecting based on the title but a beautiful and fairly interesting, detailed book on the Egyptian period. I recommend.
