My thanks to NetGalley and FaithWords / Center Street for an eARC copy of this book to read and review.
I am an old fogie. When reading a daily devotional, I prefer a "real" book to an ebook anyway. If I don't see the book sitting on my table, but just an eReader, it's much easier to forget to pick it up to read it every day. Hence my reviewing this book at the end of February instead of December...
Otherwise, not a bad little book, but I did disagree with a few things the author said. For example, her understanding of God's healing and how if we just put in five more minutes every night at the office, we might not get laid off. Completely missed the mark with me.
I also completely DESPISE the version of the Bible she uses. It is SO insulting to the reader and distracting from God's Word that I just can't stand it. That's a personal preference of mine. Others may love that translation. Not me.
So while this book is a 3.5 star, it's rounded down to 3 stars due to the translation, my disagreeing with some of her belief structure and a slight negative on the format. If you want to read this book, I highly recommend the physical book over the ebook. It's not a bad book, she has a lot of good to say, but it just didn't catch me right now. It doesn't help that I was reading this concurrently with Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis. That book is amazing and tough to run against. This author is popular at my store and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to customers.
“Words are powerful. With one word, God can change our lives and we can help change the course of someone’s day. Within one word, we can find encouragement and hope.”
Joyce Meyer, one of my favorites, one of the world's leading practical Bible teachers. A New York Times bestselling author, Joyce’s books have helped millions of people find hope and restoration through Jesus Christ. Each and everyone has a powerful and positive message.

The daily devotional includes: Powerful words to focus on each day Scriptures and practical advice from Joyce for each word Encouragement to read and pray every day
My favorite: July 14 "Risk":
"It has been decided by us . . . to select men and send them to you without beloved Barnabas and Paul, men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ." Act 15:25-26
"I believe we should live our lives with an enormous spirit of adventure and risk. We only get one trip through life, and I don't want to be old and have nothing but regrets.
We face the struggle between faith and fear. Don't give int to fear of the unknown or of being adventurous-move past it and follow what God places on your heart to do. There will always be critics who tell us our faith is too risky but don't let them cause you to live a small, boring life. you can fully live today by not giving in to fear or by worrying about tomorrow.
If you step up to the plate, you might strike out, but if you don't try, you will never know the joy of hitting a home run!"
Every now and again I like to change up my morning routine, whether it's how I do my Bible reading or my meditation time, or even my daily devotional. That's why I was interested in learning more about Joyce Meyer's book, Wake Up to the Word - it was time to change up my morning devotional.
This daily devotional includes:
♦ Powerful words to focus on each day ♦ Scriptures and practical advice from Joyce for each word ♦ Encouragement to read and pray everyday
I have always loved Joyce Meyer's devotional books and I've owned - and gifted - more than a few to my friends and family over the years. This particular devotional one is designed to read early in the morning so that you can take the message with you and apply it throughout your day.
Each day of the devotion focuses on one word. You learn its meaning - perhaps in a new way. Then you're given an illustration of the word that will connect it to the Bible. This allows you to take it with you and meditate on it, evaluating your own thoughts and opinions on it. Then, to finish it off, each word has a relating Scripture to also reflect upon.
Of course, I just happened to open the book as I was preparing to start reading it, and it fell open at September 22. There I found one of my favorite verses, Hebrews 12:1 combined with the word "Finisher". How awesome is that? Well, I sure know there are no coincidences in life :)
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Faith Words, a division of Hachette Book Group in exchange for my honest review.
Wake Up to the Word – An excellent personal belief tool
As one of the world’s leading Bible teachers, as well as being a best-selling author, who has helped many through her teachings and ministries when they are struggling with their faith. Joyce Meyer has published over seventy books, that have been distributed worldwide.
Wake up to the Word is a brand-new devotional by Joyce Meyer, which will help all believers in their Christian faith throughout the whole year. With an uplifting and powerful word to start each day to help you mediate on, and help you reach some form of clarity in your own mind. These powerful words are also relevant to the passages of the Bible readings which she sets daily. There is also some quite interesting practical advice within the devotional.
This is a structured plan for assisting people to develop their personal faith, and using it to overcome the challenges of life. It will help to encourage, with reading and prayer to a deeper understanding of your own personal belief. This is an excellent guide, to read throughout the year and help you to become closer to God through his word in the Bible.
An excellent devotional I cannot recommend highly enough.
I really liked this but it wasn't enough for me. One page per day is not enough to sink my teeth into and I have the time to read more than a few pages a day. This is great for someone who has very little time for devotions. Sure, I could read multiple pages/days per day but... I don't like to jump around, I want something more cohesive.
So I recommend this book for all that are interested and those that have little time. Why everyone when I just said it wasn't for me?
Isaiah 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
What you read may bear fruit in your life, the word doesn't return void, empty and it may very well bless you. It blessed me, I found verses and things Joyce said that seemed just for me. However, I found it frustrating and go on to one of her other books.
Reading this book has really strengthened my faith. Every morning when I wake up I look forward to begin my day with words that encourage and help me to have a different perspective on life.
I would recommend this book to my family and friends, so they too can share in it. I wish that the lessons were much longer.
I really liked the idea because people are busy but this makes it easy to take a few minutes and do some praying and reading. So far I have enjoyed all that I've read and I would recommend this to anyone.
An empowering word each day. Every day you get a new word. You learn it's meaning, even if you think you may know it already. Then you are given a vignette of sorts, connecting that word to the Bible. Making you think and evaluate your own thoughts, values and opinions. Finishing it off with a piece of God's word. Sounds like the perfect way to start every morning that I am blessed to have. Joyce Meyer's books, even devotionals, always have me questioning myself. You can never be too sure that you know everything, and must always be open to learning. Especially about yourself. Evaluating your moral compass from time to time helps you keep on the right path. I find her devotionals help me do that. I am sure most of you will too.
I chose this book as one of two devotionals to read during 2017. Now that the year is coming to end, I am thinking about what a good choice this turned out to be. Quite honestly, I wondered if the word of the day would have as much meaning near the end of the year as it did at the beginning. I am delighted to say that each one does.
Joyce picked one word for each day , added a Bible verse and advice on how to use it . One of the things I really liked about this method is that It is so easy for me to remember that one word; I can jot it down on a piece of paper and carry it with me. I often get so caught up in day-to-day activities that I used to forget what I have read that morning. This is so much better.
This is encouraging and befitting for Christians, especially new Christians, to get them on a steady diet of devotions. Joyce has such insight to the Scriptures it is wonderful. She knows how to tell you how the LORD touches the Soul with the HOLY SPIRIT, and she reminds you daily who is in charge of this world and the other. You look forward to the next day - the only thing that I miss is that they are short but like I said - it is the best for new Christians or those who are in a rush in the morning and they want to do a Bible Study before work or have to get off somewhere and do a hard Bible Study later. I got this book for an honest review
I love Joyce Meyer's devotional books and own more than a few. This one is designed to read early in the morning so that you can take it with you as you go through your day and apply it to that day.
Each devotion centers on one word and at the end of the devotion that word is defined deeply, so that you can take it with you and meditate on it. Each word also has a relating Scripture to also carry with you.
I am enjoying mine very much and I'm sure you will, too.
*I was provided a copy of this book via Net Galley for review purposes. All opinions are my own.
Fabulous quick thought-filled devotionals for each day of the year. Each has a Word, a bible reference using that word, about two paragraphs about the word and a dictionary definition of the word. Inspiring!!!!
Joyce Meyer, whose aim is to leave us 100 books wrote this book. It delivers one word for each day, a reading based on that word and the meaning of the word. It takes a bit of getting used to if you expect a reading then a prayer. I was given this book by NetGalley and the publisher. This is my voluntary and impartial review.
