Karl Friedrich May (also Karol May) was one of the best selling German writers of all time, noted mainly for books set in the American Old West, (best known for the characters of Winnetou and Old Shatterhand) and similar books set in the Orient and Middle East. In addition, he wrote stories set in his native Germany, in China and in South America.

May also wrote poetry and several plays, as well as composing music; he was proficient with several musical instruments. May's musical version of "Ave Maria" became very well known.

Un western cu îndrăgitele personaje-erou Winnetou și Old Firehand ale lui Karl May (însă fără de Old Shatterhand). Aceștia trec printr-o mulțime de peripeții prin Vestul Sălbatic (Wild Wild West) pentru a zădărnici planurile unor răufăcători și a salva o familie și rude înrobite ale acestora, de către răufăcătorii mai sus amintiți.

La cum a decurs acțiunea, mai corect era să fie denumită cartea "Old Firehand în Valea Morții", Winnetou fiind un personaj secundar. Totodată, cartea e una pentru copii și adolescenți, fiind recomandabilă a fi citită la vremea ei (8 - 16 ani).

Auch hier muss man wieder viel Geduld haben bei den Dialogen über Liebe und Verschwörung. Es ist halt Kolportage und es kommt auf Seitenmenge an. Die Geschichte an sich ist groß erdacht und kombiniert, aber eben 3.600 Seiten lang, von denen noch 1.000 bleiben. Etwas Pause, dann gehts weiter in Sibirien.
