James Rediger was on his way to Wichita to visit the grave sites of his wife and daughter when he stopped by a river to rest. There he met a beautiful widow by the name of Helen Stafford and her daughter, Grace, who were spending the day together fishing. Events of their encounter led Helen and Grace to invite Rediger to their place, but he politely declined the offer. Helen warned Rediger that the sheriff and deputies in the town where he was headed were corrupt and evil, and urged him to use extra caution. He assured her he would be safe and that everything would be all right. There would be no trouble. Too bad the sheriff and deputies didn’t see things that way.
Gerald Hartenhoff truly has a talent to tell a real good tale, I just wish there was a little more story to the ones that I've read. It was like reading the first four or five chapters and then it was all over with. It started, then , it ended. I really liked most of the character's, but he neglected to gve any of them any depth or sodimension as real people. The plot was a good idea, but there wasn't enough story to truly engage the true western reader's attention for very long. SORRY, Just not good enough.
Another REVENGE adventure. James Rediger hunting the men who murdered his family. Well you know he kills them all except one, Eli Stone the leader of this gang of cutthroats. He has a dream and in this dream his wife tells him to stop all this killing and he decides he will..But meanwhile in his travels he meets a mother and daughter who are fishing. It's really a nice western, not lot of action, but enough to call this a lonely comboy falls in love with widower and her daughter. He kills the sheriff and his bullies deputies after they kidnapped the widower's daughter. Don't let the name fool you...can't always judge a book by its cover. ENJOY
I really enjoyed the story. Not really a novel, more of a short story. Great characters. Look forward to more Rediger stories/novels. If you are looking for something to read with your Sunday coffee, this is it.
