When Ella's father is missing, she finds him held captive by a dangerous and devastatingly handsome a man, who gives her one choice: Her father may go free, but she must stay with him--for good.
There is more to Lucian than what Ella initially sees. He isn't just a crazed kidnapper wrapped into irresistible eye candy. Heading a group of shape shifters who live as humans by day and hideous monsters by night, Lucian is desperate to uncover why his kind hasn't been reproduced in centuries. Determined to solve this mystery, Lucian sees Ella as an answer. Together, they begin to discover the truth--a truth that just might be what Lucian's been afraid of all along.
But their days together are numbered. Lucian's enemies will stop at nothing to destroy him--and anything he loves. Lucian and Ella refuse to give up that easily. Will beauty and love prevail, taming the beast once and for all?
Mallory Crowe has lived in Michigan her whole life and has been in love with romance ever since she'd skip to the end of every novel, just to make sure the hero and heroine survived and ended up together. She lives with her husband and three dogs. When she's not writing, she's spending too much time in front of the TV, hiking, or working with various animal rescues.
It wasn't bad per-say, but it wasn't marvelous. It also ended pretty abruptly. I don't even think that ending could be classified as a HEA.
If you're going to write a book inspired by the tale as old as time, then please, for the love of God, get the fucking ending right. YES there is a wrong way to do an ending. Was that even supposed to be happily ever after?
There was so much push and pull in this book that when Lucien and Ella finally just submit to their physical desire for each other, the story just ends.
And you know what, they're sexual desire for each other just wasn't enough for me. There was nothing emotional between them. Like Ella doesn't really want Lucien. Not in her mind anyways. Her body did. But you know what, on an emotional level she was too distant for the possibility of them ever having a relationship.
So fuck that ending.
Fuck it.
Anything that might have been between Lucien and Ella felt forced, fake, unnatural. And I mean I know people say that Beauty and the Beast comes off as a Stockholm love story, but even the love in that felt believable. This did not.
The book did that thing where a significant amount of time apart passes between the "couple" and I just don't like it. That train can leave without me. I mean, I get WHY and it makes sense. But like the author was a huge cock block when it came to the smut before the departure too. Like thanks. Couldn't even let me have that before tearing them apart for a couple years. Thanks.
That all said. I have my reasons for the 3 stars.
For one thing I liked Dean and Cade. Their characters were likable and funny and I liked their interactions with Ella. They were pretty much the Lumiere and Cogsworth except with less bickering between them.
Also Lucien wasn't totally unfortunate. I felt when he redeemed himself as the beast believable.
The concept that there were creatures similar to Vampires but not, intriguing. I liked the originality behind it (the name of them escapes me right now, but just think bats).
Also the Vampires in this were scary. Think Buffy the Vampires Slayer scary. I can appreciate any author who doesn't make them sparkle and who need to be killed with a stake.
Over all the story telling was entertaining and totally had me on my toes a couple times. Aside for the "romance" and ending, I didn't mind the book altogether.

This is the last book in this series and it is a great addition to the series. While I have a lot of unanswered questions, if I asked them, it would be a big spoiler. So,I won't ask questions now.
This was a great continuation of the first two books of this series. Books 3 & 4 really didn't seem to fit in with books 1, 2 and 5. I would love to read more about myotis and the rogue vampire world that Author, Mallory Crowe has hinted at as well as why the war between the species is so virulent. I have more questions and hopefully will be able to connect with Author, Mallory Crowe.
The myotis, as a species, are basically an unknown. The new take on vampire beginnings is great and I would love to know more. I really couldn't put this book down and it is way past my bedtime. The characters are great and the romance is no destroyed by too much descriptive erotic content. There is mystery, suspense, action, adventure, romance all wrapped up to form a great read. This book ties back into the original vampire stories in books 1 & 2. I haven't checked enough to know if this is the end of this series. I am hoping to learn that Crowe is busy writing another book for this series as there are so many ways to go from books 1, 2 & 5.
I am happy to recommend this book in this bad boys series. I hope Crowe goes into more depth about the myotis and the rogue vampires. I am very glad that Author, Mallory Crowe has created this world and I hope she addresses all my questions at some point in the future.
This was the reward in this series after the first three letdowns. Brock and Elsie’s story was great but this one was the gold for me. I loved everything about this book. The characters were awesome, the chemistry between Ella and Lucian was on point, the plot was intriguing and never got boring, in fact it changed from one plot in the first half to something different in the second half.
Obviously this was an inspired Beauty and the Beast theme type of book which just happens to be my favorite of all time. It definitely felt like it but also felt like its own story at the same time. The author took a common theme, made it her own, and created such a beautiful story for these two.
I loved Lucian and Ella together not only the romance but the overall plots, as it was like two books in one. Seeing them reluctantly fall in love even though they didn’t know it at the time to a surprising not necessarily twist but taking the book to a different place I didn’t expect it to go and watching them come to terms with the fact that they were more than just an itch they scratched in the past. I just can’t explain how much this left me in such a good mood because I didn’t have high expectations for it and didn’t expect to even like it. But it proved me wrong, I might not like every book by this author, but she’s definitely not someone I’d completely rule out reading again.
Her heroines when done to my liking, I LOVE them. They’re strong, they’re smart, they’re confident, they’re not stumbling everywhere, they don’t blush at everything, they know how to dress up and wear makeup, they don’t lose their voice and let a man bring them to their knees or melt at how attractive he is and let him kiss her stupid to shut her up. They feel real and I can relate to them so well. She makes such realistic heroines and heroes that aren’t overly sweet lovesick puppies. Ella was everything I want in a heroine and better than I could imagine.
Lucian was hard to like at first but he grew on me. I understood his reasoning for doing what he did to Ella but I think he could have just straight up negotiated or asked her for her help and she would have agreed. He made up for it though and learned from it along the way. I liked seeing him get put in his place by Ella and he took whatever she threw at him because he knew he was wrong. He didn’t make excuses or abuse his power to get what he wanted from her. He paid attention to what made her happy, he put her first and protected her when he had every right to go after the people who attacked their home, and he eventually by let her go not only for her protection but because it was the right thing to do. He was a true hero to me.
The only thing I would add to this book is a longer epilogue or a couple chapters that show them committing to each other and some lovey dovey scenes after they’re both on the same page in their relationship. I personally like to see post-HEA for couples but it’s not a huge deal if there isn’t. Other than that, everything was great and I hope that this isn’t the end of this series.
What a fascinating story for sure. This book emediately caught my attention, usually I go after supernatural shifter/vampire books but this one wasnt entirely different but definitely not the same by any means.
Ella what a strong beautiful woman, even at the begining when she is arguing with the sherriff about finding her father she is strong and takes no crap even though she was a beauty pagaent girl. Which is all anyone ever sees her as much to her dismay. She becomes stronger and more resilent as the story continues on, You will be amazed by her transformation. Through one meeting she is afterwards stuck forever in a world she never wanted to be in.
Lucian the man who kidnapped her father is an interesting sort of fellow. By all accounts he should avoid her and keep her father to do what he wants and needs of him. But he doesnt listen of course he goes out to introduce himself and in doing so Ella gets pulled into his world. He has long hair gorgous blue eyes an adonis body and hes tall as hell making him even more gorgous the second he speaks.
The love story that results in them meeting is amazing and debilitating for Ella. He scares her but she is also lusting after this sex god of a man that keeps her captive.
Mallory Crowe is an amazing author for sure and I cannot wait to delve into more by her. She makes a great world come to live in your mind as your read her book.
I got this free and I enjoyed it at the beginning and thought I’d found a new author. But the story dragged in places when describing every day life which was boring and didn’t seem to move the story along. Plus, I never understood some of the story directions. If the hero was 700 years old and trying to find a cure for his species’ infertility, I thought he would never let the heroine’s mad scientist father go and then let her leave without some answers. The hero having guilt and being so in love with the heroine was just too convenient and weird after one week! And then to let 2 years go by before they meet again followed by instant love was eye rolling again. Also, the hero seemed to not have a clear objective in the “war” and floundered with too many mistakes. I’d read another book by the author if it was free but couldn’t recommend paying for this book due to these inconsistencies.
This book was an okay read for me. At the beginning, it read a little bit like 'Beauty and the Beast' where the main character was a vampire able to change his body to human/vampire and a girl who was kidnapped (but there is more to her than meets the eye). Here starts an adventure between both chracaters trying to stop being killed, figuring out how the vampires can procreate and how the girls blood is so important. The story fast forwards a few years to show the main protagonist further on in her life and with new developments but still in danger. For me I just felt that this book was a little all over the place and kept repeating itself. It does have some good characters and it would be interesting to see what happens further on in the book, but more of a library loan for me than a buy it book.
What an incredible book. I thought that I wouldn't enjoy this book the synopsis to me sounded as if it was a spin on the beauty and the beast book because of the whole exchange the father for her scenario. But it was so much more than that. I loved very moment if Ellie and Lucian's romance and then some more I love that we thought that one character had died and turned out wasn't I'd like to see more of this series with this character finding what they deserve. Plus I want to see what Ellie is what powers she has and there daughter. A good start to a series it kicked off with a bang.
Just realized this is book 5 of the series I'm such an idiot well I guess I'll be adding those to my the list 😏
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I downloaded Stealing Fire as a free ebook from Amazon. I have to admit, I'm not sure how the book title ties in with the story, but I enjoyed the storyline. I was a bit confused with the world-building, but I've not read other stories in the series (this is book 5), so I may have had a different opinion if I'd faithfully followed along with each book. The first part of the book was too slow=paced for me, but I was curious enough to stick with the story, and things picked up in the last half, enough to spike the review from 3.5 to 4 stars. I usually prefer more character complexity, but the author weaves a good plot.
This book was a bit of a surprise to me. MC books are hit or miss for me so I wasn't sure what to expect. What I got was a fast paced fun PNR. I really really enjoyed this book and will be continuing on with this series. One thing was left unfinished was , what is Ella? There was a little talk about DNA but that was about it. Loved the cast of characters though. I hope that there will be more of Cade.
I very much enjoyed this paranormal romance. I thought it was more paranormal adventure than a romance. Lucian was so badass as was Ella. Their love scenes were almost superfluous. I read the scenes but felt no emotion. If the writer felt no connection to the romance, how can I?
I love Beauty and the Beast storys and thus one started of pretty nice. I liked the characteres and their development throughout the story....up to the point of "three years later"
I don't know why but some of it seemed unnecessary to me.
The book was pretty good and kept me interested throughout. Some aspects were a bit confusing, some just didn't make sense, and I had to do an eye roll at some of the things that went on. But other than that, I'd probably read another book by this same author.
I was AMAZED at how good this book was!! It had a twist to the typical supernatural that I've not seen before. And it was still REALLY GOOD!! If you like steamy paranormal romances, you have GOT to read this book!!!
I enjoyed this story. The characters were well developed and the plot had action, conflict, and romance. Emma displayed an inner strength and determination. Lucian was determined to protect his people and Ella.
This is the 5th and last book in this series and I'm really bummed that there are no more books in this series. I really want to know more about the rogue vampire world that was touched upon in the 1st 2 books and this book.
This book can be read as a standalone but it did tie in with the 1st 2 books in the series so it is suggested that you read those as well. You won't regret it as they are excellent books! Like I've said in my previous reviews, once you start reading this you won't want to stop so don't start it on a work night! There is drama, suspense, and romance. I received a copy of this book from the author for my honest review.
This is an incredible story! The hero, Lucian, is a myotis shifter. Not familiar with what a myotis is? I wasn't, either. They are apparently some kind of large bat creature, with creepy mouse ears and fangs. Very ugly, and not real pleasant personalities, either. Most of the other paranormals don't like them much. During the day, they look like gorgeous hunks of men. But at night they turn into these... monsters. They are able to teleport. But the myotis have a big problem. They have not been able to reproduce for a very long time, and their species is in danger of dying out. Lucian, as head of the coven, has been researching possible remedies for their reproductive issues. His predecessor, an evil creature, experimented with crossing some myotis DNA with humans to see if they might then be able to carry myotis offspring. Heroine Ella is the result of one of those experiments. Born of a surrogate mother, who was implanted with myotis DNA, she has been raised by her mad scientist of a father. She's now in her mid-twenties and doesn't know that she is anything other than an ordinary human. Her father, later regretting what he'd done, has tried to keep her shielded from the myotis species and the truth about her birth. This book follows the previous book in the series, Ruling Fire. Lucian had a minor role in it, and some of the characters in that story are mentioned in this one. While it's not totally necessary to have read that one to read this, I think it would help. There were a few times some of the references to those characters was a little confusing. That said, this story was majorly amazing! Though most of the book, I felt that it's the BEST book I've read so far this year. You may think, so what? It's only mid April. But I've read and reviewed over 50 books already this year, and this one is right up there with the best of the best, in my opinion. It's got everything: an unusual & complex shifter, a great story line, humor, suspense, lust, love, jealousy, evil, and even a few really gruesome scenes. (I'm not into gruesome, which is why I reluctantly lowered my wanna-give-6-stars rating down to 5.) There was so much humanity in these characters, many times I found myself just sitting there grinning as I read, enjoying all the playful banter between them. There's so much other stuff I wanna spill, but I'm going to behave myself and try to keep this spoiler free. Suffice to say that, I don't read many books more than once, but this is something I can see myself revisiting. The only other disappointment besides the gruesome stuff was the ending. It was a little abrupt in my opinion, and I would have liked to hear a bit more about what happened to some of the other characters. Mallory Crowe definitely has herself a winner here! I hope she continues with other stories in the paranormal genre, because she's excellent at it! I received a free ARC of this book for an honest review.
Now that I've read all 5 let me just say that each and everyone of them had nothing but excitement, mystery and boy they were whoppers, intrigue and lots of violence, my kind of supernatural.
So lets start at the beginning first there was Ann and Nicolas, then Gina and Marcus, Muriel and Kier, Brock and Elsie. They were just the beginning of this 5 part epic story of bad boys of the underworld.
last but least is the story of Lucian and Ella if you have read all 4 other books in this series you will know who Lucian is, if not I wont spoil it by telling those who have not read the other 4 who he is? Anyway back to it, Ella was so worried about her father who was as eccentric as they came-but he was her loving eccentric father. He had been missing now for a week, storming into the sheriffs office she slammed the door back demanding if Gus the sheriff had any clues of his where abouts. Gus dismissed it and said they were doing all they can and said that her father would always disappear for a while. The only information she got was that his car was left on the side of the road and showed no signs that he was kidnapped. Ella had found out the location of her fathers car that day and drove out to investigate further herself.
Upon arriving to where her father had supposedly not disappeared, she looked around for clues, anything that would help her rescue him. Walking further into the trees she heard a whirring sound and spotted where it was coming from, on the other side of that camera that was following her someone was watching her and that person was Lucian.
Find out upon release of Stealing Fire and the final episode of Bad Boys Of The Underworld what plans Lucian holds for Ella, then discover who Ella really is and why she is the most protected and wanted human? why is she being hunted by vampires who want to kill her? Only her father knows the answers to those questions, find out for yourself about the mystery that surrounds Ella and be prepared for a surprise that no one saw coming.
I was fortunate to receive this as an ARC for an honest opinion, well done Mallory on a great finish to Bad Boys Of The Underworld, believe me all readers will love this ending.

Will beauty and love prevail, taming the beast once and for all?
Ella is determined to not like or help Lucien in any way after he manipulated her to stay with him. Lucien is determined to save his people and their future, no matter the cost. Neither one realizes their hearts are on the line as well. They must only survive the invading vampires and many supernatural creatures determined to kill all Myotis. I think Ella and Lucien are my favorite couple. I am sad to see there will be no more in this series. I would have liked to have seen all the couples come together and fight off the invaders. I am sure Clara and all the wives would be an integral part of the conclusion.
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
This is #5 in the Bad Boys of the Underworld Series, they are a paranormal fantasy series, each book focuses on a new hero and heroine from a different species of paranormal, although each species works together against their common enemies. There are different people from previous books , but each book stands alone as a complete story. Ella's searches for her missing father in doing so that leads her to uncovering a world of vampires and other beings that she never dreamed existed, especially the Myotis. Myotis are Human Men by day but monsters by night, a Myotis is a kind of large bat creature, with fangs and mouse ears, and they are able to teleport. The Myotis have a problem, they have not been able to reproduce for a long time, and their species is in danger of dying out. Lucian, is head of the coven, and has been researching possible remedies for their reproductive issues, his predecessor was an evil man, that experimented with crossing some Myotis DNA with humans to see if they might then be able to carry Myotis young, he did not care of the results, but Lucian does .Ella was a product of those experiments and has been hidden by the man she thinks is her father, she thinks she is human. What happens, why is someone after her? Who is Clara ? I was gifted a copy for an honest review barwatts@telus.net
This book is the fifth in the Bad Boys of the Underworld series. This book focuses on Lucien, who we met in Ruling Fire. He is the leader of the myotis, hideous looking creatures by night and devastingly handsome men by day. His species is endanger of extinction. His goal is to find a way to procreate and survive. Ella's father, a scientist who had worked on this problem with the previous evil leader of the myotis, goes missing. While searching for him, she stumbles across the myotis lair. Lucien is trying to get Ella's father to help him but discovers that Ella may be the key. The problem is Ella hates and distrusts Lucien.Or does she? As the battle with the alien vampires that has been building through all of the books increases, can Lucien protect and and win Ella? There are a few surprises I didn't see coming in this book that made it highly enjoyable. I am not a paranormal reader usually, but I am a Mallory Crowe reader. I have yet to read a book of hers that I haven't liked. I typically can read a book of hers in less than a day. She has a terrific way of making her characters believable and making you cheer on even the "monsters". I would highly recommend that you read any and all of her books. Lucien is a beast to Ella's beauty. However, I'm finding I like the beast! I received a free ARC of this book for an honest review.
I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review So sad but true ; Stealing Fire (book 5) is the last one in the Bad Boys of the Underworld series by Mallory Crowe. I enjoyed each book in these series but especially this one . This is Lucian & Ella's story . Lucian is the myotis we got to know in Ruling Fire (book 4) .He's desperate to uncover why his kind hasn 't been reproduced in centuries and he's determined to solve the mystery by kidnapping Ella's father, a scientist who didn 't had a good history with the myotis . Never thought I would love Lucian ,that scary monster but Mallory has once again brought her characters to life with her typical writing style and in such a way that has you falling in love with them . I loved the banter between Lucian and Ella , with each chapter their banter develops into something more .Mallory has delivered a paranormal story full of suspense and itensity with many twists and turns and at the end I was holding my breath, so anxious to see what was coming next . If you want to know what is going on between Ella and Lucas ..and what's all the mystery behind Ella ?? Grab this fantastic and intense read now . It is my favorite one of these series and highly recommended .
Hunky men, bad guys, paranormal abilities, and love. This is only the second book I have read in the Bad Boys of the Underworld series, I read the first one and the last one - go figure, but i didn't have any problem following the story as it seemed to be stand-alone with only a few references to things or people I didn't know about that may have been in other books. Ella's father is missing and nobody seems to be taking it seriously except for her. When she finds out that the police have found his car with no sign of him, she decides to take things into her own hands. What she discovers will change her life forever. Lucian is a myotis, a species that hasn't been able to produce children for a long time. When he figures out that Ella may be part of the answer to this problem he blackmails her into staying at his compound for some "tests." Now throw in the alien vampires that are trying to get a foothold on this planet and you have a pretty good story-line going. Of course the attraction between Ella and Lucian doesn't hurt! This book had a lot going for it. I am not going to spoil it for anyone by telling you all the juicy details. I will just say that you will enjoy it if you like these kinds of tales.
Ella's search for her missing father leads her to uncovering a world of vampires and other beings that she never dreamed existed. She meets Lucian who offers her the opportunity to save her father if she will agree to stay. Lucian is trying to uncover why his people can not reproduce and believes Ella can help. The problem is that the vampires don't want them to succeed and Ella is in great danger.
I enjoyed the book and the characters. Ella is an interesting character that really changes during the story. She starts out very innocent and weak and grows strong physically and mentally as she faces the challenges and needs to protect herself and those she loves. Lucian is complicated. He has a mission but he also has a heart. You really get to see the other side of him towards the end of the story.
This is the lat book in this series and they say save the best for last. I definitely agree this was my favorite out of the series. Ella goes searching for her missing father and finds that he is captured by Lucian. This scenario worked in so many ways.. This story is packed with action and love as these two must work together. Simply fabulous it brings back some of the old names from previous books, which I loved. If you haven't read this series I would recommend it. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I received this free from the author in exchange for a honest review.
I haven't read many books with this subject, so I was very surprised I absolutely loved this story. I need to read the others in this series. There was so much action in this book it just grabs your attention and you can't stop reading. Such a great book
All five books in the series were full of suspense, action packed and unique. Lucian and Ella's story didn't disappoint, both characters were unique and well written. I loved this 21st century take on beauty and the beast. Received this ARC for free for an honest review.
Another fantastic story by Mallory. Had to be one one my favorites to date. It was great to see that Lucian now gets his happy ever after and now the chance at a family. Hopefully with Ella and Clara they can figure out how to help these rest of the mytois have children.
