What is the Joshua Principle? It is found in Joshua 1:8:
"The Book of Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success." The Joshua principle is a challenge to keep the Word in our mouths "day and night." To be filled with it, to be girded by it, to be in it, to "meditate on it."
This is what Mary did when she received the word she was pregnant from God. Luke 2:19, tells us she "kept all these things and pondered them in her heart." Because Jesus kept the words, knew the words, he was ready to duel the devil in the dessert. He didn't have to wait and check resources. He had them! He fought the devil's temptations with every Word of God. The Joshua Principle is about being immersed and prepared. It is a fabulous little book every Christian should pack.
Christian NF. This book gives scripture and a short discussion of the Bible verse--used as a weekly devotional this year. Enjoyable for being in the Bible more although I continue to struggle with memorization. This gave me an opportunity to improve in this area and I recommend to anyone dealing with the same issue.
Rated: A- Wonderful book by one of the great relational pastors of our day. 52 verses with insightful commentary to go with each verse -- one per week to memorize and meditate upon. All profit from the book goes to a great cause. Good gift to give to one who follows Our Savior.
Almost immediately, this book spoke to my heart in a way I could easily understand it. If I could have only one reference, along with my Bible, this would be it. A wonderful tool for personal renewal and balance in Bible study and Christian living.
This is a great book explaining how memorizing and meditating on scripture will lead to Christian growth and fulfillment. It details 52 verses (one per week) that provide a good set of verses to commit to memory. Additionally it provides a small chapter about each the meaning and how the verse can work in our lives.
Excellent book with 52 Bible verses that every Christian should try to commit to memory. Plus each chapter has some information about the verses. Excellent resource to add to your collection of Christian books. I would highly recommend this book if you would like to go deeper with God.
The Joshua Code has as it’s subtitle “52 Scripture Verses Every Believer Should Know”. Most of it was a review to me as l have known the majority of them for a long time. l memorized most of these verses years ago. The last few chapters are the most significant as they bring it all together, the second to last chapter being “Famous Last Words” that contains some great the last prayer of the Bible, and concludes with an explanation of the fear factor factor, that being the fear of The Lord, what it is and what it isn’t. There is a clear connection between the fear of the Lord and knowing His Word.
This book is amazing, this author is organized and easy to read. I have heard it said that the layers in the bible are like the layers of an onion, and I understand that like never before while reading this book. Each verse while well known has been opened to me and therefore opened a deeper spot in my heart. The importance of every single word whether it be "my" or "is" can not be overlooked anymore after reading this book. Thank-you!!
Wow, this book was fantastic. I wanted to challenge myself and do my best to memorize the verses as I read each week. I did a lot of them but not all. Still, the verses each week were very thought provoking and forced me to dig deeper each week. For a while, we did this for our Small group each week. Having people doing this book with you each week, memorizing the same verses, help tremendously. I can't recommend this book enough!
What a wonderful book! We memorize addresses, phone numbers and the like, yet we neglect His Word. O.S. Hawkins takes 52 verses( one for each week of the year) that we should all memorize and places them here with an outstanding explanation of each. What a great resource for family devotions or for one's own person. Thank you sir for your research and ministry, which you have graciously shared with us.
This devotional is a good beginners guide for scripture memorization. There is a chapter for every week in a year and each chapter is a verse that you meditate on and memorize. A good resource for anyone interested in memorizing the Word.
Good weekly devotional guide. Our church used it as a weekly memory verse guide. Having the devotional reading to go along with the memory verse seemed beneficial to those who took advantage of it.
