Without a Trace: The Sheikh's Son And I

Rate this book
Carmen Davis didn't understand the meaning of luxury or love. She worked hard day in and day out for a boss that didn't appreciate her talents. Her sister, Jane, didn't understand the meaning of work. She was too busy being an Internet superstar, dating famous athletes and living it up.

'Jealousy' doesn't even begin to describe Carmen's feelings. But when her sister goes missing overseas due to a botched escorting trip, Carmen drops everything to find her. She travels to the mysterious Arabian kingdom of Ija.

Carmen expects to find her sister, or at the very least, the kidnapper. She doesn't expect to draw the attention of anyone...

...Certainly not the sheikh's son.

This book was suggested to me from someone on a social media site I like to visit. I enjoyed the story, it kept me interested. I like how the author takes the time to draw you into Carmen's world gets you inside her head and what makes her tick. Carmen has a younger, immature sister named Jane-who is a current social media sensation- she cares more about keeping up appearances, being pretty and sexy. Jane prefers getting money from wealthy men than working a 9 to 5. Carmen has a 9 to 5 and is burdened by a jerk for a boss, flighty sister and little time to care for herself-Jane unfortunately is her world. Carmen ultimately ends up worlds away in a foreign land looking for her sister who’s gotten herself in trouble…again. Little does Carmen know- her thoughtless sister’s little stunt would take her on an adventure neither of them ever expected.

Different, Interesting

I have always wanted to read romance about black people that didn't involve drugs and cussing and baby mama drama-anything that didn't play into the clichés. Well, this book had drugs but they were removed from the two main characters in a way and I liked that. It was an unlikely romance considering race issues that exist in the world but it was a very interesting read and I think the author held the plot together really well. If you can get over some detail like how Carmen was able to run here and there without being caught in a foreign land.... (Enough spoilers) You will enjoy this book.

Great read.

A Prince, a foreign woman, human trafficking, a chase, horses, embezzlement . . .

There was too much talk about Jane. Carmen let Jane's actions rule her world. This may have been a good thing for her. She got to know more about herself than she could have ever experienced at home waiting for something that was not coming.

Another 'smart' woman running around like a fool...

Likes--
-The cover is fabulous!
-The location was exotic, but unfortunately the author didn't go into any detailed descriptions.
-The premise.
-I thought that you got a full impression of the main characters.
Dislikes
-The length, too short.
-I disliked how irrational the heroine was being, for someone who lauded their intelligence, she made some foolish decisions that should have had real consequences instead of everything being wrapped up so very tidy. I guess that the point of (romance) novels to create tension, to provoke a reaction, but I'm not sure if my slightly annoyed reaction was the desired result.
-This is a novella and a romance, fair enough, but sex trafficking is such a serious problem that deserves some gravity when it's being handled, I felt that was sorely lacking here.
-The heroine was looking for her sister in what I assumed to be a very conservative, perhaps Islamic country, but her actions weren't reserved or very conscientious at all.
-Her hot and cold behaviour with the prince. One sure fire way to annoy me is when the heroine says she's not going to sleep with the hero but in the next line she's throwing herself at him.
-The missing sister.

All in all, I thought that this was an ok read, that could have been awesome.
Would I recommend this? Sure, once you're only looking for a quick, straight forward read.

This story is supposed to be about Carmen. The hard-working, good, pretty-but not as much as the little sister, math genius. Instead it came off more about Jane. The social media diva, wildly popular princess with millions of followers and an over-load of financial backers(boy toys, rich men, sponsors, ect) I don't remember reading any info about the sisters ages but I guess its implied that they are grown women. Jane having never worked and doesn't have any skills whatsoever besides taking cute pics, dressing fabulous and asking big sis for money on a regular. I felt like this story gave too much time to the secondary characters. Like Carmen's boss.
I didn't like Carmen. Her personality was too wishy-washy for me. The way she talked to and sometimes treated the male lead(the sheikh prince) was baffling. There were times when she went out of her way to cause trouble(maybe without realizing she was) doing the opposite of what he asked of her-which would lead into her making careless mistakes.) In his country. Where he knows the laws. I would have liked more depth with this story. To Carmen. Being as this is the authors first book I do think it was okay. Some things could have been better. The love connection between Haseem and Carmen didnt come off as real at all to me. I would suggest a little more research going into the future.

Foreign Romance & Intrigue

This is great romance story set in an imagined Arab country . Besides being a romance it has elements of corruption and human trafficking weaved into the story . Carmen risks it all to save her sister Jane when she becomes missing in a foreign country, but to her surprise also finds love with the last person she'd expect.

3 1/2 stars. Loved the story. But some parts really wanted me to reach in my kindle and smack Jane & Carmen.
