Less than a year after crossing the unchartered Territories of the Old West in pursuit of vicious killers, Detective Simms of the Pinkerton Detective Agency receives orders for another mission. The fledgling railroads are cutting through the endless plains and desperadoes are taking advantage. The Pinkertons are charged with protecting the trains and the money they hold, but someone knows how much this is, and that someone has to be stopped.
But as Simms shadows the train robbers, he begins to realize that someone is shadowing him. It is certain that one of them will end up six feet under... by the bullet.
My first published book 'Cold Hell in Darley Dene' (written as Glenn Stuart) was the culmination of years of trying to get myself into print. Back in 1979 I submitted a novel to a publisher, and in 2009 Darley Dene was accepted. Thirty years of honing my skills, and learning a lot about the world. If I had the chance, I'd almost certainly re-write all of my books, improve them, make them more solid, because the more we write, the better we get. This is what has happened to 'Darley Dene'. It's now available as 'Lament for Darley Dene', re-written and improved. Soon, you will find the same with 'The Pawnbroker', a horror story which I am sure many out there will enjoy. My current day-job is being a teacher, a job I love. Without it I would not be able to continue to write; it also gives me a wealth of characters and so many ideas. The bills get paid too! I write now as Stuart G Yates in a range of genres. Unflinching is my best-selling Western, but if you like historical fiction, thrillers or spine-tingling horror, I am sure I have a title for you. For the moment, I live in Spain, which is not so wonderful as people try to make out, and I would dearly love to return to Old Blighty, find a little cottage and write full time. Or the Philippines and be with my fiance, marry her, find happiness. Dreams, but dreams that I am trying very hard to make true. Afterall, it's dreaming what writers do best...don't they?
Another great book by Mr Yates. This is the 2nd book I have read in as many days. I like his simple, steady, style of writing. Always lots of action and gun fighting. I highly recommend this book. It was a great read.
I stayed up too late last night finishing this one. Not quite the action of the first in the series, but very well written. Good followable story line. I enjoyed it a lot.
I liked this story a lot but did not love it. I am a real western fan, having read almost all the Charles Alden Seltzer (Hopalong Cassidy) books as well as those of Zane Grey when I was a kid. This book is about killing, seeking and vengeance. Retribution is a bitter cup, all involved in the seeking and the desire for vengeance, learn. Revenge, it is said, is best served cold. Miraculously the principal character, Detective Simms, survives through all the seeking, through all the desire to kill a deranged man, a deranged murdering scum. The price for his life is dearly paid for by others though. The book is filled with chase scenes and killing. Unflinchingly Simms soldiers on, finally, with the help of a tracker named Deep Water, living through the ultimate moment of the book. I said I liked the book. I didn't love it. Sometimes it is best not to use terms in a book with which you are not familiar. Bandito or banditos, is a Spanish term for bandits. It is not spelled nor pronounced as bandidoes. And Spanish is a wonderful language which possesses two genders, male and female. Male references, such as muchacho, end in o and female references such as muchacha in a. As I said sometimes it is better not to use terms in a book with which you have no familiarity.
Lots of action , an introduction of the intensity of the Pinkerton Detective Agency. I like this author he's aware of what terrible treatment our Native Americans endured through out history and it was spearheaded by the United States Government..GENOCIDE...and in some cases some tribes were erased totally. This Pinkerton agent has respect and as you read this adventure, he uses it. I've read a lot of westerns, but this writer isn't condescending towards his descriptions of the bad boys of the west. So far, I enjoy reading about Detective Simms; you can feel the actions as he figures how to stay alive..
I received a review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. In the Blood is western story that follows a Pinkerton Detective, Simms, as he investigates a train robbery. The story is well crafted and the characters are interesting and compelling. I believe the author has really captured the feel of the old west, its people and the American landscape. If you are a western or adventure fan you will love this action filled book.
