The young prince, Ronan, his uncle, Conrad, and assorted companions including a distinctly idle dragon called Protheroe, set out in search of their people's ancient homeland. As their journey progresses, their relationships change, moulded by their experiences.
Rimasto in sospeso per anni, in quanto di difficile reperimento - è un racconto accattivante per un giovane adolescente, ma presto si rivela essere un chiaro esempio fantascientifico che richiama molto lo stile di Tolkien e Lewis. Peccato!
I heard about this title when I read an article on the best books for kids/young adults. It sounded really intriguing, but was out of print. Eventually I tracked down a copy and have had it on my shelf for a year or so before finally getting around to reading it.
Honestly, I was expecting more than I got out of the book so I'm a little disappointed. That's the problem with expectations. It's not bad, and could definitely be used as a "read together" book to spark conversations over some of the ideas and themes presented. But the story drags, the characters are pretty one-dimensional and lack much depth, and the ending is very flat (intentionally; it feels like you are supposed to make your own ending), and as an adult it just wasn't a fulfilling read.
