The book itself is a 4. I got exactly what I paid for, and three books for the price of one was pretty good. But the editing is abysmal. Books 2 and three are out of order, continuity problems, one character dies twice. A flashback in book 3 does not match what happened in book 2, and several points where a word is not the right word, making it look like the editing was done in half an hour using a spell check. Attila the hun is referred to attila the HIM at one point, the suns were "coining" up. It's a mess in editing. Titan books, up your game man.

This omnibus collects the first 3 Aliens Vs Predators novels. (The first novel in the collection is an adaptation of the first AvP mini-series from Dark Horse comics).

The books focus on one overarcing story/character, and watching Machiko grow and change (and learning about Predator culture) was endlessly fascinating to me.

I'm pleased that they are re-releasing all the old Aliens & Predator prose books, and would recommend this to those out there who have an interest in either franchise.

Missing that big conclusion.

I really loved the first book of this series so for it to end like this I'm disappointed.
Some great moments with the hunters and the detailing of some of the battles are good.
Though it was underwhelming during the last quarter, I wanted to know what were the last moments of briggs like? What happened to the other pilot? Did the hunters stay on the planet? Did the Queen breed more?

Read to finish the series but the first book is the best in the trilogy.

Wouldn't normally read a novelization of a movie 'theme', but this, like several other 'Alien' adaptations i've read (notably by Tim Lebbon) was damn good. Really entertaining.
Would recommend reading the third story (of this trilogy collection) first, as the events in the 3rd story predate the 1st and 2nd.

Overall, pretty decent. However, books 2 (Hunter's Planet) and 3 (War) seem to be out of order. Book two references things that occur in book three and between the two of them there leads to some minor discrepancies. But, as I said, overall they were pretty decent.

Disorganized

While moderately interesting, two of the 3 stories are out of order. In addition one character is killed off in 2 of the books. There are terms and acronyms that are not explained. Not reccomended unless you have nothing else to read.

First book was excellent. Middle (3rd) story was diabolical

First book by the Perry’s set on the world of Ryushi was excellent. Up there with the best.

Middle book - which incidentally is supposed to be the last story was absolutely awful! The dialogue was al blah blah blah blah blah blah blah! The action was absolutely minuscule. The prose and grammar was outrageously bad. There was such little story to it! It was all talking. Scenes of people just talking absolute drivel to each other. I had to speed read and miss out huge sections just to keep at it. Very dissatisfying read. Literally - the whole book could have been over and done with in just 3 chapters!

On the last book. Unfortunately. I just could not get back into it. I wish I’d skipped 2 and gone straight to 3. Then maybe, just maybe I could have gone on and just left it there. I wish I had. Maybe I will come back to it at a later point in time when I am looking for a read.

The first story was really really good. Unfortunately, the 2nd and 3rd are presented out of order and all have NUMEROUS editing errors. For a professionally published book, particularly one I paid $10 for, I expect better than I can find in unedited fanfic. The second story, which should be the third wasn't as good as the first but it was fine enough if a bit rushed at the end. The third wasn't all that good at all. It lacked action, it lacked conclusion. It was meh at best. Shorty was killed in both the 2nd & 3rd stories, the flashback in 2 doesn't match the extended version in 3, and... The typos. I did enjoy the read, but I feel like the first set up something amazing and then the other two were just disappointing, or made just for the money? I'm not sure but they lacked the heart of the first.

Great AVP series.

The first and second book were really good. Entertaining, great plots, lots of action and excellent characters. The writing style was great on these two books. I plowed through these books wanting more. Unfortunately, the third book was a little hard to follow. The characters were not as well thought out and the story was all over the place. I don't think it matched the first two stories. The book seemed to have been rushed to publication. This story should have been overseen by someone who knows how to tell the difference between a proper storyline and a fractured one. But I look on the bright side, the ending was OK.

Terlebih lagi, aku suka kedua monster.

Prey (April 1994)
★ 4 (dibaca Mei 2023)
Ulasan ada di Goodreads versi buku satuan.

Aku belum baca Hunter's Planet (Desember 1994) dan War (Desember 1999).

Three books in one. Interesting and enjoyable read. The three stories that are linked by the same character. Machiko Noguchi is a female director of the facilities under attack by the Hunters. S Perry and his daughter have authored books on the Alien and Predator gene. I do believe S Perry has also penned some "Star Trek" books. Just a quick read and some interesting facts on this continuing action series. Pretty good. Later.

This book is really weird and has a lot of fighting and i feel bad for the people in earth because most of the humanity has vanished also predator has to fight the aliens and their is just one predator and whole bunch of aliens and the aliens lose at the end but the predator gets really harmed but is fine and return to his own planet.

Fun!

Better than I expected. A lot of redundancy in the third act however. If you can build fantastic synthetics beings, why not have them do all of the risky human endeavors, especially warfare. Makes no sense in most Sci-fi stories. Authors need to rethink the potential future state.

Great read

I really enjoyed this. I've watched all the films and read a few of the predator novels but this was my first predator vs aliens read. A good main character with equally well written supporting characters in each story.

If you like sci-fi and enjoyed the films of either predator or alien, then in all likelihood you will enjoy this read as well.

Prey was very enjoyable though there was a moment or two that I felt continuity was broken from chapter to chapter.

Hunter's Planet and War are separate alternate sequels to Prey. Both are good but neither are talking about a reasonably able person but a superhero of a protagonist. It breaks the immersion having to accept more fantastical things.

All three novels are a fun read.

Great story. Perfect AvP action. However, the three books are presented in the wrong order (1-3-2 instead of 1-2-3) and there's a glaring discontinuity regarding an established villain between book 2 and 3, hence three stars instead of five.

The return of great characters

In this Omnibus the authors give us another taste of great charactors from past stories. There return heightened my reading experience greatly. I looking forward and hoping to be able to read many more well written stories of these heros.

In the AvP universe, the only Predator novels I’ve read are those contained in the first Omnibus (Concrete Jungle, Cold War, and Big game.) Those were…well, good. Therefore, I was not prepared for just how much better this Trilogy (the first three installments of the Machiko Noguchi Saga) would be. These three books--that work together incredibly well as a whole--are full of interesting and dynamic characters. The main protagonist of all three, Noguchi, is a truly heroic (and flawed) character; her story arc is almost Shakespearian in its breadth and depth. The glimpse into the minds of the Predators, i.e., the Yautja, is incredibly fun--their personalities and culture is both believable and insightful. An added bonus was the inclusion of characters from S.D Perry’s Berserker Novel, a personal favorite of mine. All in all, this collection was a blast from start to finish.

A good few stories, the first is by far the best, hunters planet is enjoyable enough, War is just odd as it takes place before hunters planet and concludes one of the stories from the Aliens omnibus.

Prey & hunter's planet are awesome. War is just a prequel for Hunter's planet, without much sense or action. This is why many suggested to be read as second.

A TALE OF THE HUNTERS IT IS

Hello, this trio of stories about the PREDATORS were pretty good. I wish they would have been better, but it is what it is. The stories didn't blend very well. Thanks.

First and last books in the omnibus are pretty good. The weakest point is the second book.
