Swim, bike, run, and repeat. Simple, right? Wrong. What you eat while you train is just as important as how you're training. If you're going to perform at your best on race day, top sports nutritionist Renee McGregor has the dietary plans to hit your goals as a triathlete. What to eat, when and why are clearly explained in a way that is relatable to everyone and backed up by years of experience and expertise. Meal plans and the science are tailored to the multi-disciplinary training of a triathlete. How to fuel yourself for success by eating right before, during and after training is clearly laid out, along with how to shift your plan to match the intensity of your training days and the build up to race day. Importantly, this nutrition advice is designed for real people with real lives.
Full disclosure...I am not a triathlete and probably will never become one. I'm lucky if I can rally myself to get to an exercise class once a week. But, that being said, I am always trying to improve my slacker mentality and improve my knowledge and understanding of fitness/exercise in order to improve my fitness. This book was easy to read and the training vs. recovery info, as well as, short paragraphs on everything from micro nutrients to injuries and over training for racing was also easy to understand. I appreciated that the author didn't try to make us "non exercisers" feel less than the triathlete. The author actually made it seem like I could actually complete one and that's saying something. Now while I, unfortunately, have not gotten around to trying out any of the recipes, most looked easy (which I appreciate) and pretty yummy (which I really appreciate). Recipes also include cal/carb/fat/prot info like most cookbooks nowadays.

Informative and some interesting recipes (albeit not as much vegetable content as I'm used to). My current preference is for Renee McGregor's writing on the science, and Anita Bean's recipes.
