The battle of survival against the invading aliens heats up... but Hell Squad never quits.

General Adam Holmes’ life is dedicated to keeping his small band of survivors alive. On the run, with only Hell Squad and the other soldiers for protection, they are making their last dangerous drive to the secret stronghold of the Enclave. But there are a lot of aliens between them and their destination, and the survivors are tired, worn, and at the end of their limits. Adam feels the pressure dragging him down, but as their leader, he can’t be their friend and he can’t dump his burden on anyone else.

Long before the alien invasion, Liberty Lawler survived her own personal hell. Since then, she’s vowed to enjoy everything life has to offer and she’s managed to do that, even in the middle of an apocalypse. She does what she can to help the survivors in her convoy, but one man holds himself apart, working tirelessly for them all. Liberty can see Adam is at his breaking point and she vows to tear through his rigid control and save him from himself.

But the aliens are throwing everything they have at the humans, trying to stop them from reaching the Enclave. Adam will find his resolve tested and the pressure higher than ever. But it will be one beautiful woman - one who won’t take no for an answer and who worms under his skin - who can save them all and give him the strength to go on.

Well this latest addition to the Hell Squad series is quite a departure. I'm used to reading about these tough men and women who are surviving an alien invasion but I hadn't quite been prepared for General Adam Holmes! He is a slightly older hero but nevertheless this honourable man will do whatever it takes to save those who have put their trust and indeed their lives in his hands. It's not easy avoiding the lizard like aliens whilst traversing dangerous terrain but if the resistance and the surviving civilians hope to reach the sanctuary known as the Enclave then stealth and sometimes even sacrifice has to be the way forward.
Adam is a man apart, tired and lonely but there's one person who sees the stress he holds within. Liberty is seen by all as a good hearted good time girl. Life is for living and she intends to wring as much joy out of each day as she can . Liberty has gone through fire to reach where she is now and recognises that Adam needs to kick back and loosen up but when he does it's a whole lot more than even Liberty was expecting!
Wow I wasn't expecting this story . Adam is a mature guy who really knows what he wants and he may be all tight lipped and stiff when it comes to rallying his troops but in the bedroom that man is out and out dirty! What really made this story stand out though are the tough decisions he has to make and at times it's heartbreaking . The author continues piling on the action and adventure and the Gizzida truly are vile with creatures straight out of nightmares. It's as if the author sat down and wrote a list of everything that could possibly terrify her readers . From giant sniffer dogs to creepy spiders and don't get me started on how I'd feel seeing the face of, oops nearly said to much but I think you get the idea that this convoy are really up against it as they journey and I can't wait to find out what happens next
I was gifted a copy of this in exchange for an honest review

Two main reasons to read this:

1. Obviously this is a Anna Hackett book and I love her stories.

2. I am so pissed with manwhore heroes and their shitty attitude along with acquiring virgin heroines! so I decided to read this book about a heroine who loves having FUN, not ashamed of it, and who is very experienced.

I already knew about Liberty’s reputation from previous books and not gonna lie that’s why I avoided reading this book. But as always Anna hackett creats magic.
Hero Holmes was very accepting and respectable to the heroine. I loved it!
He was also crazy attracted to her and vise versa. No derogatory comments or slut shaming. There was also a solid reason why Liberty choose to live her life the way she wants.
Action scenes.. My God! Just fantastic!
I am so glad General Holmes finally reached his goal and found peace and happiness. He totally deserved it.
Recommended.

Happy Dance!!

This was good! Anna sure knows her way around action romance!

The blue mountain base is on the run. Adam Holmes, the general is feeling the pressure of being in charge now more than ever.

Enter Liberty, a fun, perky and pretty blonde, who is hell bent on enjoying life even thought she is in the middle of a god damn alien invasion. #lifegoals
Deciding that the dear general needs to relax, he has no idea what is coming for him.

It was fun, quick and well written and full of action!

Will I recommend: Yes, it’s not the most complicated series, but the writing, the characters and the plot simply just works!

I love the entire Hell Squad series. The ladies are awesome, the men are hot and it is always an alien hiney kicking really good time. But this one was special, Adam Holmes finally gets a lady and it was just a big happy moment for me.

I have worried about him for a while now, but Liberty - well she is a wild woman and as unlikely as it seems, the perfect match for Holmes. Things were hard in this one, but the good guys win in the end and what I really like about this series is that things are really, really dire, but AH always ends it on a happy note. So much better than a cliff hanger full of angst that leaves you frustrated.

Dedicated (and surprisingly sexy) General Adam Holmes is up to bat this time. And, BOY, is he in for a surprise when it comes to Liberty and the pull she has on him. (Which just goes to show, you can't keep a good couple down even when aliens are trying to take over the planet.)

Okay. The survivors of the alien attack on their base are reaching their breaking point and Adam and crew are trying their hardest to get them to the Enclave and the safety it will provide. To saw Adam is a little on edge would be putting it mildly. Like any good leader, he takes every person they can't save personally and the weight of it all is threatening to drag him under.

Fortunately for him, Liberty steps in to help him unwind and things progress from there. *wink wink* No lie, they're a surprisingly sweet match. She's just what he needs to help him shoulder his burdens and he's the type of upright man Liberty had given up on after what happened to her in the past. Of course, it takes a while for both of them to get in the right headspace for a relationship, but they get there.

They get there.

As always, I'm loving the craziness of everything. Romance in the middle of an alien invasion works for me and I'm completely down to see more of these rough and tumble soldiers (both men and women!) find their special someone.

This is about General Adam Holmes, who's been in charged of Blue Mountain Base since the beginning.

I have to say free-spirited Liberty seems an odd choice for the uptight Adam but she grew on me as the book progressed. All in all, it was an exciting road trip!

I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I have no idea how Anna Hackett does it. Each book in the Hell Squad series brings something new. Each one is different and exciting in its own way. Holmes was no exception. The book was even better than I'd hoped for. Hackett's characters are all imbued with so much life. It pulls you in completely and has you falling in love with the characters. We see their faults, their weaknesses and strengths, the things that make them tick. Adam and Liberty might be one of the most endearing couples in the series in my opinion. Their story was also just what this series needed at this moment: one to restore hope and reinforce life. This book encapsulates so clearly the resilience and perseverance of humans. Liberty's character in particular was what drove this point home. She is the embodiment of living life to the fullest, finding some good in every day and every situation. She's an optimist, but a realistic one. As she states herself, she already went through hell prior to the alien invasion. The way she was able to put herself back together and live life with such zeal is inspirational. Adam is a man who has kept himself alone for far too long, doing everything in his power to protect the people in his convoy, both physically and emotionally/psychologically. He shields everybody from everything as much as he can, instead taking it all upon himself. He has to make the tough calls and live with the consequences. He wakes up every day knowing he'll probably have to make a decision between bad and worse and goes to bed every night with the full weight of what that decision cost. Liberty is exactly the person he needs in his life. Despite seeming so drastically different, Liberty and Adam are very similar. The both feel he instinctive need to protect and care for others, making their lives as good as possible under the given circumstances. The big difference there is that Adam never lets anyone care for him in return. Liberty is just the woman to bust through those walls and show him that it's okay to lean on someone else sometimes, that's it's even healthy to do so. He can't carry the weight of the world solely on his shoulders, nor should he have to. She shows him how getting close to people serves to enrich life. Adam and Liberty make the perfect duo to help their people make it through this dangerous trek to the Enclave. Honestly, this was an absolutely excellent book. With each book in the Hell Squad series, Hackett keeps the story moving forward. Adam and Liberty's story is a life affirming one. The book absolutely has a HEA ending for Adam and Liberty (and the entire convoy). While the book has no cliffhanger for Adam and Liberty's story specifically, Hackett (as always) includes a little teaser of what's to come in the next book. I can honestly say that I cannot wait to hear Niko's story. I know that when I pick up one of Hackett's books it's going to be a great read. I would highly recommend this book to PNR and SFR lovers. I truly hope you enjoy this book as much as I did!

I needed an emotional pause from Ever After Always, so I turned to Anna Hackett for a distraction and she delivered (of course). Holmes was also a pleasant surprise, I assumed it would be a bit of a filler book on the way to the sure to be fun Finn, Devlin and Theron books coming up (please Theron, be as delightful as I hope). What I wasn't expecting was quite how sweet Holmes and Liberty were together, as they navigated the weight of his responsibility and guilt and her overcoming a difficult past with optimism and an assuredness that was so refreshing. This is a hugely sex-positive series and Liberty's view of the world was great, and she proved to be a very thoughtful match for the strait-laced Holmes. Also this book deserves huge credit for an exciting race to safety, the world of Hell Squad continues to grow brilliantly.

These two are so good and sincere. The character development is a bit surface level, but that’s kind of how it goes with these books being so short. You find out who they are and what makes them tick, but it’s kind of in your face instead of gradual. So you get the knowledge but less of the actual seeing it. With this one, one of the main characters has a pretty tragic backstory that doesn’t feel fully honest. It feels overblown, especially based on the character and her current behaviors and actions. I had a bit of trouble committing to that, but it doesn’t matter, because overall I like who these two people are right now in the current moment of the book.

I've been curious about the leader of all the people from Blue Mountain Base!
So much stress and weight on his shoulders! Never seeming to take time to enjoy himself, instead worrying about his people. I love how he ended up with Liberty! She really got him to let loose and take care of himself.
And I really love how Liberty was made to love sex and enjoy life and not made to be slutty, or hate the women who got the other men she had her eyes on. She was genuinely kind and happy for others.
They're almost to the Enclave, just days away. But the aliens are growing more cunning and more of their alien tech make appearances. Tension is high, fear is tangible, but they keep on keeping on!

Series: Hell Squad #8
Rating: 4 stars - It was really good

General Adam Holmes has dedicated his life to keeping the survivors alive. While on the run to Enclave, everyone is tired, worn, and at the end of their limits, especially him. The pressure of leading is eating away at him and he can’t lean on anyone for help. Liberty Lawler can see that Adam is at his breaking point and she forces him to take a break. She vows to spend each day finding joy in life and she knows it's time to help Adam find his own reason to go on.

This book was nonstop action, emotion, and romance as the survivors make their way to the Enclave and avoid the aliens. Holmes has been a solid, dependable, and strong figure throughout the series. In the last book we saw that the burden of leadership was resting heavy on his shoulders and it just continues to get worse. He is burdened by the guilt of every person he loses or can’t save. Holmes was a surprisingly sweet man under that starch uniform and he can really kickass when he needs too.

“I need you, Liberty. You’re my light. Your smile, your voice, just watching you sleep. You give me more than a reason to keep fighting, you give me a reason to keep breathing.”

Liberty is a strong independent woman who spends each day living life to the fullest. She is the perfect partner for Holmes because she shows him how to live life to the fullest, even while taking care of everyone. I also think she makes a great partner because she sees the other side of leadership by reminding people to find happiness during the bad times and to keep moral up. She listens and makes a difference, not only to Holmes, but to everyone in the Blue Mountain Base.

Also I just loved how crazy Tane and Hemi were in this one. I cannot wait to get to their books because I know they will be good.

This can be read as a stand-alone, but it is so much more exciting when the series is read in order. There is action, humor, aliens, fight for survival, and steamy romance! While the war with the aliens continues, this time the focus is on the humans’ weary leader, General Holmes. Followers of the series know just how much pressure the hero has been under and know that he needs someone to be there for him. Liberty, the heroine has made appearance in other books, but we haven’t really got to know her. Now we learn about her and how much the two of them need each other. The author does such an amazing job of drawing the reader in that once I started, I couldn’t stop racing along, experiencing a full range of emotions as the humans try to make it to a safe haven. There is a HEA for the main couple and while the war against the aliens continues on into the next book, the ending doesn’t leave you hanging.

I'm sorry Noah, it's not you it's me, Major Holmes has stolen my fickle heart. I received Holmes as an ARC in return for an honest review and I was blown away. I love Anna's work but Adam and Liberty's story is the best yet and who knew what our general was hiding. I'll be honest through the whole series I had an image of an older gentleman when ever General Holmes was mentioned, he just seemed to come across that way and when I saw the sneak peek of the cover I was flabbergasted and maybe drooling just a wee bit. Liberty was always a background character for me so I never really focused on her much in the past, so the level of hidden depths she has and how her history had shaped her stunned me. I won't be making that mistake again that is for sure. This is a true treasure of a story and the best so far.

OMG
Dancing around with my hands in the air! :-)
Adam Holmes finally gets a girl!!!!
Liberty is a girl who has featured from book one ....
I love that she finds THE ONE!
She is lovely and her character is loved by everyone.
She is the closest a human can be to an empath... She can tell what someone needs rather than what they want... She could have made a Career from giving a perfect present! :-)
I really like that we see a HEA and a continuation of the otherall storyline.
Brilliant writing..
Still loving this series!!!
Bad news ... now I have to wait!!!

HOLMES is a fast moving, hope-filled dystopian novel with a lot of action, suspense, plenty of Steamy scenes of intimacy and a HFN (dystopian)/HEA. I enjoyed HOLMES overall but it wasn’t my favorite book in the series (as explained below). I purchased and listened to the audio version nicely read by Jeffrey Kafer and Samantha Cook.

MY RATING GUIDE: 3.5 Stars.
1= dnf/What was that?; 2= Nope, not for me; 3= This was okay/cute; 3.5= I ENJOYED THE ACTION (the FMC character and intimacy- Eh); 4= I liked this a lot; 5= I Loved it, it was great! (I seldom give 5 Stars

HOLMES ~
The Swift Wind Convoy is now somewhere south of Sydney, 18mos after the initial alien invasion and immediately following SHAW, #7.

At just past 40yrs, MMC General Adam Holmes remains the highest ranking officer following the Alien Invasion. An educated, formerly “by the rules” leader, General Holmes finds himself under a great deal of pressure with his growing responsibilities. Since the last of the Blue Mountain survivors (once 1000 strong) fled the invaded, burning Blue Mountain base (Noah, #6), Holmes’ responsibilities have only multiplied. Holmes is devastated by the growing casualties as the aliens constantly pursue and attack his ragtag group which continues to creep toward their final destination - the (hopefully still hidden) Enclave. Thirty five yr old FMC Liberty Lawless, a resourceful, sexy, free-spirited woman, has been observing Gen Holmes since the very beginning. She’s watched how the military personnel, the medicals, the tech experts, the Team leaders, the civilians - everyone - continuously demands Gen Homes’ attention and his leadership. She sees his tense shoulders and his mounting stress when it seems no one else notices. Then when another attack seems to be the last straw for their group, Liberty decides to step in and see how she might help lighten Gen Holmes’ burden. Perhaps her positivity and objective perspective (not to mention her sexiness) can help in some way.

Comments ~
1) I enjoyed the suspense and action scenes in HOLMES but the early onset and excess of detailed intimacy was a bit much for me.
2) Initially, I didn’t identify much with Liberty due to her characterization in previous novels (“good-times, hook-up” gal, “soldier bunny”). Her more positive traits do unfold as the book progresses and I can (sort of) see her with Holmes by the end but she is still my least favorite female character in the series so far.
3) HOLMES is a dystopian novel. Readers who are willing to let go of reality, logical thinking, scientific facts and just settle in for the ride will find the most enjoyment in this series.
4) The Hell Squad books are very fast reading, great for a few hours of escape or to decompress after work. I am finding the story arc a captivating journey.
5) Although HOLMES could be read as a standalone title, I really don’t recommend it at this point. HOLMES is the 8th book in a 20 bk series with an ongoing story arc. A lot of continuity and character development would be missed starting with HOLMES. I prefer reading Anna Hackett’s series starting with book one and continuing through the series in order.
6) I thought the reading by Kafer and Cook was well done. They are challenged with a few accents as well as the (frequent) intimacy scenes which must have been fun for them. ;)
7) Overall, I am enjoying this series and recommend it to readers who enjoy:
*Action/Adventure novels (and are okay with a number of detailed steamy intimacy scenes).
*Dystopian Romance novels (and above).
*Escape fiction, such as Fantasy and Space Opera (and above).
*Quick reading romance novels to insert between other genres and tropes (and are okay with light dystopian settings and steamy scenes).
*Imperfect alpha-type male characters who commit 100%+ to the woman they love and appreciate complicated, authentic, resilient women.

READER CAUTION ~ Not recommended to YA readers or to those who prefer Clean fiction.
PROFANITY - Yes. Strong language is used.
VIOLENCE - PG. Involves military and aliens. Think Godzilla or Aliens. Not particularly dark or graphic.
SEXUAL SITUATIONS - Yes. Detailed intimacy scenes occur between the 2 MCs beginning in Chp 3, making this a rather steamy story. I fast forward through them.

Reed Anna Hackett

Reviewed by SFF Dragon*

Way back in the mists of memory, this book was my first taste of Hell Squad, but I loved it so much, I went back for the previous books and have actually read the entire series. Now, suffering from varying problems with my eyes, I decided to give audio books a chance. I've mostly avoided them in the past because the narrators left a lot to be desired and generally ruined the books. Taking the literary equivalent of a nice, crisp, juicy salad with zing and turning it into something akin to a month-old limp lettuce leaf. I'm overjoyed to say that the two who narrate this series, Jeffrey Kafer and Samantha Cook are incredibly good, truly the exception rather than the rule. They managed to maintain the gritty fight for survival action adventure nature of the book and I highly recommend it to any lover of all-action, alien invasion sci-fi wrapped in a little romance with a few steamy bits for added spice. But, as this is a series with each story following on from the one before and having the start of the next story somewhere in the last chapter or two, I do suggest that you start from the first book, 'Marcus', and then listen to them in order. It'll be worth it and you get the survivors' story from the beginning-ish. The series is set around Sydney, the capital of the United Coalition of former Commonwealth nations and the USA, and actually begins about six months after an alien invasion which decimated the planet and killed billions in the first wave of the attack.

'Reed', the fourth book in the 'Hell Squad' series by Anna Hackett, one of my all-time favourite authors, wasn't the first book I'd read by her, but it was the first in the 'Hell Squad' series and it made me really wish I'd read the first three, not because I felt like I was missing anything, because I really wasn't, but because it's a really great book and I wanted more. Like all her books, Anna Hackett has included enough of a recap and background that you get the jist of what's going on, and it can be read/listened to as a stand alone, but you'd be depriving yourself of some seriously good books, every single one a 5 star plus read/listen.

Amidst all the shooting and battles with the reptilian aliens, Hell Squad 4 tells the story of the romance between Reed MacKinnon, a former United Coalition Navy SEAL who was on leave in Australia when the aliens attacked, and is now a member of Hell Squad, and Dr Natalya Vasin, a world renowned energy scientist. A genius who was captured by the Raptors, tortured and experimented on for months, and finally rescued by Hell Squad. But it was Reed who carried her out and Reed she clung to, trusting him to keep her safe.

A job he's thrown himself into wholeheartedly. He wants Natalya in the worst way, but he wants to protect her and keep her safe more. She wants her life, her confidence, her 'normal', back, and she wants Reed. But haunted by the memory of his friend Jo and her loss of self to a man who wore her down, followed by her suicide, he can't hear what Natalya is telling him. All he can hear is himself saying she needs to heal, she's not ready, he can wait. It takes one well chosen sentence by Claudia, another member of Hell Squad, to knock the bottom out of his arrogance and make him question his perspective.

No more spoilers, you'll just have to read/listen to the book.

This action packed sci-fi romance has everything you could want. Alien invasion, reptillian monsters galore, the rounding up and subjugation of the human population, hybrids, survivors fighting back, a romance to enjoy and lots of fighting. It is a war after-all.

5 brilliantly well earned stars.

General Homes is a terrific leader
General Adam Homes was the highest-ranking officer in Sydney, still alive after the alien invasion. Homes knew that if he was going to fight the aliens, he needed to be at the Blue Mountain Base. Luckily, many other warriors had the same idea. Over the past year and a half, Holmes has strategized the defense of the base and the lives of the hundreds of survivors in his care. General Homes recently discovered the base is no longer hidden and safe from the enemy. It’s time to move every… last… person to a new home and his warriors have found just the place. The Enclave is more secure and is welcoming his people. It’s quite the endeavor to pack up and move hundreds of people…in total secret…the entire journey.
Adam Homes is a loner. He feels he must be commander 24/7 and it’s lonely at the top… until he hooks up with Liberty, a carefree friendly beauty. Turns out she’s just what Adam needs. After living in an abusive marriage Liberty is a survivor who vows to enjoy her life. She is a calming influence for the masses. Everyone loves and trusts her. On the “road trip,” the caravan encounters many obstacles, but Liberty is in the mix calming, even fighting, just what the nervous scared travelers need. This story is a wonderful intense story that keeps you glued to the pages. I am in the process of rereading the entire Hell Squad series. Linda

Holy Moly, did I love this book. This is probably my second favourite in the series, right under Marcus. I had been dying to see who Anna Hackett would pair the high strung General with, and I would have never guessed Liberty. But I shouldn't have bothered doubting, they were the perfect couple.

Liberty Lawler has two simple rules she lives her life by, "Be nice to others, and do whatever the hell she wants." She had been a character who had cropped up throughout the other books, usually having fun with some of the other soldiers and boosting the camp's morale.

But in this book, Liberty had her sights set on one reluctant and headstrong man, and it made for one entraining and action packed story. At first I wasn't too sure about the two characters, but in true AH form, the two opposites fit together perfectly. Liberty toned down the strict and work oriented General and humanised him, it was interesting to see the different sides and back stories to these particular characters.

General Adam Holmes has held himself apart from the band of humans that follow him for the 18months since the invasion. Sunshine-y Liberty Lawler looses her inner warrior and saves Adam from an attack by the raptors new fire spider weapon. Understanding the pressure Adam’s under, Liberty gently tends his wounds and tentatively offers herself as part of the healing package. Adam condemns himself for letting his guard down as he accepts.

Popular among the survivors, Liberty decided before the invasion she’d live her life her way and gently pushes her way into Adam’s heart as he notes their complementary skill sets. As the humans slowly make their way toward the Enclave, the raptors targeted Adam with their most insidious weapon yet. Again, Liberty stiffened her spine and stepped up and Adam realizes how essential she’s become to him. The team is elated about the new coupling as the raptors offer a devil’s bargain.

This just might be my favorite yet, well, it's definitely up there.
The thing that kept bugging me in most of the previous books in this series is that pretty much each of the women pulled some stupid stunt while being a coward in other matters but somehow their respective guys end up being the bad guy having to apologize for a fuck up that wasnt even their own... I like strong, independent, kickass women, but this... not cool.
So yeah, Liberty and Adam were a nice break from that. And a perfect fit really.
Throughout the last couple of books I kept wondering who would get paired with Adam, considering the different characters mentioned. Didn't cop onto Liberty until fairly late, but when I did it was like "Yes, that's it!!" So happy for them
Curious to see how this fight continues and of course get to know the other squads a bit more...
Btw. I know we hear a lot about Squads 3, 6 and 9, but whatever happened to the other squads? Surely, there must have been Squads 1, 2, 4, 5, 7 and 8 at some point?!?

Wonderful!

I'm so happy Adam got his happily ever after. That poor General deserved some happiness. He leads his people putting them and everything else before himself. He carries the weight of any grief, failure, death, or any other hard choice on his shoulders and needed someone to help him carry the load. Liberty was the perfect person for that. She is always helping others and putting them first, trying to make them feel better and be happy even if they are living in hell. They both balanced out each other perfectly. She helped him see it was ok to be happy and do something for himself every now and then. He helped her see that love in an apocalypse is worth the risk. It was beautiful and sexy as hell.

glad they are at their destination at the end

Again I will repeat, it makes no sense that they did not use aircraft to move people from the original installation. Even with weight limit, etc they would have gotten 90% out by the time the aliens invaded. They would have had time to plant traps, mines for them to trip as well. Destroy info, etc.
Ok, will stop.
Adam(stereotype of general) and Liberty (love her character) coming together was good. Did not buy that they would have not gotten together earlier since they lived in underground center for at least year.
But the coming together and building of relationship was good.
Looking forward to other stories. Hope by the end of series they conquer the invaders, and help other survivors around the world do so.

Normally, I don't leave more than two reviews for a series with so many books, just for the first and last book, but... I thought this was a special story because someone with Liberty's current mode of thinking (one nightstands only with the whole crew and screw commitment) would be looked down on in today's society. Read a few of the reviews for this book and you'll see that hasn't changed even when dealing with fiction that's not real. I however am glad Hackett didn't begrudge Liberty love. Everyone, real person or fictional character, deserves to be loved just like the prudes and in the closet freaks do. Bravo, Hackett!!!

Starchy General meets Liberal Liberty!!

More great reads from the pen and imagination of Anna Hackett!! The continuing saga of the survivors of an alien attack on Earth led by General Holmes. This is a mat who takes his work seriously and shoulders the burdens alone. Then good time girl Liberty takes him under her wing, taking no ifs or buts and before he knows it, he cannot stop thinking about her. Every strong man needs a strong protagonists behind him, giving emotional and physical support. They make a wonderful team! Read the book and find out how a starchy General is taken down by Liberty!!

Last time i read this book was almost a year ago, and i've recently decided to do a re-read of Holmes and I love it even more the second time around.

Holmes is probably one of the strongest yet controlled leaders I've ever read with a huge amount of stress and pressure on his shoulders. He's constantly weighing in decisions to best suit all the people under his command and protection. And only until the Gizzida are finally defeated, will that pressure ever lift.

Bring in Liberty Lawler. Probably the most unexpected and surprising character of the entire series so far. We do see a few small scenes of her scattered throughout the Hell Squad Series, but we finally get to learn all her secrets and strength, what they were, and how she has grown.

Another excellent read by Anna Hackett, and another success to the Hell Squad Series!

Loved it

Some of the survivors have rough last lives. It's why they survived the invasion and the fun for the Enclave. General Adam Holmes is a terrific leader at Blue Mountain but his true leadership skills show on the run to a new home. He has everything on his shoulders. Liberty sees a man drowning under the staggering responsibility of saving everyone. She steps in to try to release some of his stress. She turns into a strong and soothing leader for the civilian survivors. She is caring and very capable. She is the perfect comp!ement to Adam. Loved it!!!!!

Love on the Run!

In this continuing series, our heroes are fleeing the destruction of their base and safe haven. General Holmes is taking on more and more responsibilty. Liberty is the only one to realize that he is on the brink of being broken. Despite his stubbornness, she continues to push her way into his life and heart.
Anna again delivers an outstanding story about love and the challenges of leadership. In a well written plot, she demonstrates that even leaders have needs and need love to get through the bad times.

Beauty and the General

Interesting and fast-paced eighth book in the Hell Squad series. This book features the leader of their group, General Adam Holmes, and a civilian, Liberty. The General tries to be there for his people, making the tough decisions. Liberty wants two be there for him. Will he let her? It's been a long, hard road but they've finally reached the Enclave. Now it's time to regroup and figure out a way to destroy the alien invaders.

Love this series so hard. Highly recommend.

So so

The end is a major flaw for me. It was rushed and we didn't even get the chance to read about Holmes getting welcomed. It would have been nice if he gave a speech to the whole group and resiliency and how they made it. There could have been more. Another thing hard to get over was making her a little bit of a player and in a previous book stating she slept with Marcus. Don't like where books have characters who are friends but some have slept with someone's previous partner. It somehow makes the connection between the main two...less somehow. That's just me.
