Lin Coffin #3

The Haunted Bones

Rate this book
This is book 3 in the Lin Coffin series. Although the main mystery is solved in each story, the books should be read in order for the most enjoyment as story lines run from book to book.
Lin Coffin and her new business partner, Leonard, have started a landscaping business on the island of Nantucket, Massachusetts. One evening while reviewing a new project, Lin's dog digs in a pile of dirt in the new client's yard and finds a bone. When Lin goes to see what the little creature has found, she sees the ghost of her ancestor watching her and knows that the bone must be human.
Lin and her cousin, Viv, with the help of several others, work to solve the mystery of who the bone belongs to, how it got in the yard, and who put it there.
This story has ghosts and some mild paranormal elements.

'The Haunted Bones', third book in the Lin Coffin series, is a quick cosy read, even though the mystery this time concerns the theft of skeletal remains from a local cemetery.
In other hands this would make for a darker cosy than normal, but J. A. Whiting can be relied upon to keep it light.
And, as seems to be the norm in this series, Lin keeps barking up the wrong tree until the mystery conveniently solves itself.
With 11 books in the series people must like them, but I cannot for the life of me see why, unless it is that some readers prefer their book to be ultra-light and completely non-challenging.
I actually quite like the writing style but the lack of plot development, depth of characterisation and an apathetic approach to the development of paranormal element in the series just brings the books down.
I won't be reading any more in the series for a while.

Old bones or new bones, the answer needs to be found.

Awesome. Her business is flourishing but her new job might just be too much when her dog digs up a bone. Everyone assumes it is an animal bone but she knows different. A ghostly visitor appeared when she found it. Can she and her cousin track down who it belongs too. Great situations and dialogue are woven to a plot that will keep you guessing until the explosive ending. A tremendous read with characters that grow on you the more books you read.

Another great cozy mystery

Recommended to read the Lin Coffin mystery books in order to follow the development of each of the characters. Well paced story with a few different leads thrown in so the reader isn't necessarily able to pick the culprit stealing bones straight away. I was hoping that as the series progressed that there might be a little more interaction with the ghosts. There has been a slight increase since the first book, but I would still like to see more to keep my interest.

Whiting is not my favorite writer but I keep finding myself reading their books. Again Lin more stumbles into the truth than find it for herself. The solution to the mystery tends to wrap itself very quickly and, in this case, oddly. However, there is something about these books that keep pulling me in. Not a great review but I can't seem to make my mind up about them.

Fooled me again

This is an enjoyable series with a character who doesn't always get it right but manages to solve the case. I like the twists that make it a challenge for readers to solve the mystery before the author's reveal.

A good fun read

I loved this book, a quick read. I think it's the third in the series and I'm enjoying getting to know the characters. There was just enough suspense, humor and ghostly mystery in my opinion.

Haunted Bones

The book started out ok the middle was too long. I lost interest for most of the book but the ending. Was quite good and a bit surprising this author writes much better books than this one. It was still worth sticking with it.

Love these mysteries. They hold my interest, nothing overboard . lol Lin is mostly wrong on her suspect list . Guess that's what keep it interesting. Because you never know who done it until the end .

More ghost

Lin finds a bone in the yard she and Leonard are working on. The police don't find any more bones. Lin sees a light at the cemetery she and Viv investigates the cemetery they find a cut lock. The police can't find any missing bones but Lin keeps looking. Good story.

I really didn't find this third instalment to be anywhere near as good as the first two. The "mystery" didn't grab me, the perpetrator was totally out of left field, and I found the text to be repetitive at times - the author explained the same thing in two succeeding chapters, for example.

Bone found ends up being from the cemetery.
Neighbor, Olive Sawyer, of where bone was found was stealing the bones from the cemetery.
She honors the dead.....her husband Lloyd didn't know anything.

This is the 3rd book in this series and it's just as good a read as the first 2 books. I just started the 4th book. Can't wait to see what the main character gets involved with this time.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

I sadly don’t remember that much about this book, as I read it while I was a bit distracted by things going on in my life. I do remember I liked it.

These books are so light and fluffy, there is not a lot of stuff going on so I can have a sweet time just listening and relaxing. Lin and Viv are really cute and funny, and it’s a pleasure to read both their adventures and their down time cooking and hanging out. I am quite sad that this is the last book of this series available on Scribd, I hope more will be available soon.
