This didn't fit my style well at all but it did have lots of information, including (much to my surprise) details for putting out food while entertaining! Hmmm. I guess everything plays into one's personal style? I've never really considered my tomato salad as an extension of my style.
I really enjoyed this book, so many creative tips and tricks! I implemented a few things right away. If you’re looking for a book to help give fresh ideas for decorating (and painting and light fixtures and flooring ideas), it’s a great read!
Beautiful photos, with well-written explanations of the styles, color choices, accessories, etc.
Major problem: The type size is comparable to listings in the phone book. Must be only 6 point - and some of the copy is on grey boxes, making it even more difficult to read.
I understand that the editors wanted to visually balance art and copy, but....
I know NOTHING about interior design, but I wanted to learn more and get some inspiration. This book was perfect! Yeah the font is tiny but everything in it was helpful - even if it wasn't necessarily my style. Highly recommend to anyone wanting some inspiration or guidance while decorating their home, and it would make a beautiful coffee table book or gift!
I really loved the first Domino book, but this one was too modern and trendy for my taste. Pretty pictures, but little substance for real life. I'm glad I checked it out from the library instead of buying it.
The physical book is beautiful, as are all of the photographs inside, however, I found the sections of this book to be very disjointed. It jumps between categories like flooring, entertaining, art, etc abruptly. There is no comprehensive instruction on how to design or style a room from beginning to end, and even the order of pages within a section seem random. The highlights for me were the "get the look" pages where they broke down a style into it's basic components. I just wish there was a wider representation of styles. It's a pretty book and an easy read, but I'm not sure how often I'll consult it for advice. I think primarily it will be used as photo inspiration and decoration.
Very well balanced book of photos, ideas, and tips for creating your own space and style. The book is arranged by utility (lighting, art, seating, entertaining, etc) rather than types of styles, which allows for different styles to be shown in comparison. I would have liked more teaching of different style names/types, as I'm not familiar with what exactly defines them, but the book was great at teaching how different elements and utilities can be utilized for your needs and preferences.
Lots of pictures, and a good selection of ways to make it your own by adding and mixing style elements, get the showroom look by using specific pieces, and multiple ways to use standard things. However, every image is a huge, prop-set, well-lit room, so even though the ideas presented are great and useful, if you don't have a huge space to work with or a really good ability to imagine their suggestions within the confines of your space, this book comes across as unobtainable.
I flipped through a lot of the decorating books in my library and struggled to find ones that actually help you get practical ideas. I’ve found the Domino ones to be my favorite. Not everything matches my style or budget, and some of the suggestions are impractical for me, but that’s okay. I just like seeing what different things people can do to make a space personal and design-forward. Not everything in the book appealed to me or was what I was looking for, but it got ideas flowing.
The pictures were a little small, as was abundantly pointed out in Amazon reviews. I think I found less of the advice applicable in this volume than in the last one. But it was pretty to look through and I enjoyed it well enough.
If you dig IKEA, hipsters, or modern decor, you will like this book! I love the approaches to decorating in this title! I especially appreciated the section discussing plants and how different ones are beneficial to your home.
Good to pick up instead of opening Instagram. A beautiful book broken into sections that cover different style topics. The photos are great, writing is usually hilarious...overall I actually found it pretty useful and fun to browse.
I. AM SO. INSPIIIIRRRRREEEEEDDDDDDD!!!! I love every bit of this book and all of its perfection. It accomplishes exactly what it sets out to - giving you the skills, tools, and knowledge to make your place painfully chic while also being incredibly you. Next step: affording a home 🏡
Nice overview of a lot of design ideas - I didn't have any intention of reading every word, i skipped around and hit the areas and ideas that caught my attention. Plenty of good ideas and just enough insight into the organizing concepts behind different looks.
A good coffee table book and also inspired you for interior designing your house. And what I love about this book there's a little bit additional for seasonal house warming, I guess. So pretty good.
It's nice to page through, but nothing groundbreaking. The cover is pretty and would make a nice coffee table book, but there's not a ton of substantive information in here.
Certainly beautiful, and with a good amount of common sense and advice. More for homeowners, to be sure, and not that useful for those who don't really have a budget for interior design.
Ideas about how to use your home (like entertain) and up your style. I prefer the first Domino book but this was a useful follow up with some great ideas.
