Lukas Hartmann is a good story teller, I like some of his other historical fiction (e.g. Bis ans Ende der Meere). I didn't know about Pestalozzi other than he is lauded as a revolutionary educator and charitable caretaker. Learning about his struggles, personal and professional failures, mental illness, and a pang for pedophilia was not pleasant, but shed a different light on things.
