Relax with a cold beer at Strandhøj Hotel, famous for its hearty Danish fare and the landlord’s terrible jokes. Life in Strandvig is certainly 'hyggelig'… But don’t get too comfy because still waters run deep. Lea’s old flame is back in town and making waves. Quickly followed by the discovery of a body. Could there really be a killer on the loose, here in Strandvig, where nothing ever happens? Lea and Bent are about to find out…
A very good mystery set in Denmark and featuring the members of the Viking Club, a group of people who go swimming in the ocean in the harsh Danish winters. When a person from town is brutally murdered, several of them work together to figure out the murderer. It is a quick and satisfying read featuring a great setting and excellent characters. This is the kind of story that you think about long after you have finished it, and find yourself wondering what those characters are doing now!
This was a pleasant surprise! I honestly wasn't expecting much from an "unknown" author. The characters were great and the story line was intriguing and not at all predictable, as I've found some cozy mysteries. I did find the glossary of Danish terms at the beginning hard to deal with on a Kindle since I couldn't just stick my finger in the page and refer back easy, but I managed regardless. Since I am a Canadian, I found the location and lifestyle descriptions enchanting. Well done, Diane! I hope you are working on a sequel?
This book tells you a lot about the citizens of Strandvig who patronize a local bar and belong to the Viking Club of morning ice swimmers. However it was a bit disjointed and somehow didn't draw me into the book. I read all the way to the end but probably won't read another in this series.
It is probably one of the worst books I have struggled to read. Extremely irritating style with many phrases in parentheses and the plot was pathetic. Half the book was character descriptions and I struggled on and on waiting for the plot to unfold thinking that it might improve, which it didnt.
