Dorison and Bec made a quite interesting series which they led successfully to the end. Sure, there were room for improvements. One or two more issues would do wonders for the story and the characters as this way it leaves few blank spaces that could've been filled. Nevertheless, tense story, claustrophobic atmosphere makes it a read worth of your time. It seems Hollywood was interested in making a movie out of it, and I can see why. It was made as a movie. Not only because of the actors faces used for characters (Beau Bridges, Bruce Willis, Bruce Payne, Johnnie Depp, William Hurt to mention only some), but for the way Bec draws his scenes with flare for cinematic.

Sanctum Vol. 3 Môt (Originally published as Sanctuaire #3) is written by Xavier Dorison with art by Cristophe Lee.

The conclusion the the sanctum series where the crew members of the USS Nebraska fight to for the lives to reach the surface.

This was a satisfying end to this horror series which I really enjoyed. There is a ton of psychological horror at play here where you don't know if what the characters are seeing is actually really or if they are hallucinating. It has a very "unHollywood" ending to the book which I also really enjoyed. The art and colors were also great throughout the story and really enhanced the story telling.

See volume one for general comments.

On this episode: oh dear, here we go again. Another story about ultimate evil being stumbled across by modern man who cannot grasp his peril in his blind hubris, building the suspense cliché upon cliché, all the way to the twist at the end … and bottles it.

The conclusion of this story is absolutely ambiguous. Was evil defeated by the nerd with his laptop and his nuke or not? The authors can’t commit to an answer, so they toss in a dream sequence happy ending … the ultimate cop out.

That’s not just disappointing, it’s insulting. What a complete waste of a good premise.

The conclusion to this submarine adventure slash supernatural fantasy and horror.

The expensive submarine is still broken and due to imminently implode, so we’d best wait some extra time for the exploration team to get back before doing anything.

Meanwhile, the explorers have been picked off by the Satan-lookalike monster that lives in the ruins. The red devil monster has no context or mythology, but needs people to torture and feed on, and an ancient culture trapped it away from the world.

Disappointing that the Nazi story thread of volume 1 remains unresolved about what they hoped to achieve. Disappointing in the creature design choices and lack of mythology building.

A satisfying, if not terribly uplifting end to the Sanctum series (this is not one for the feel good types). The tension is significantly ramped up as the characters (and by extension, the readers) are forced to question what is real and what are hallucinations. Will the alpha team be alive when found? Will the Captain and the rescue team make it back to the sub? Will it be possible for the USS Nebraska to escape? If they can, should they? Or will their return to the world simply unleash a crew full of madmen at best and a demon which has been buried for eons at worst?

Perplexe.

#3 – “What? Autosuggestion? .. Telepathically?” – June. “STOP TRYING to give it names, June! .. there is no RATIONAL explanation here!” – Doc. - [and later] “You broke the sanctum! You’ve .. set it FREE!” - June

Intense Lovecraft-ian US naval submarine on a supposed rescue mission finds themselves exploring an ancient submerged archaeological site. Sci-Fi (ish) horror with all the elements of a mysterious infectious ‘plague’. Lengthy and detailed and unique. ****

A worthy horror/thriller

Great story of a submarine crew fighting for their lives against something horrible and not understood. Almost like the Abyss but with a bit of a supernatural edge

Decent

This story has me intrigued. I wish the art was tighter, but I'm not saying it's bad art. I'm just used to a more polished look. I definitely look forward to finishing this story.

Volume 3 concludes this series, but leaves much for interpretation. I felt Volume 3 was the weakest book in this excellent series. The plot continues to unwind as the crew continues to unravel. A lot happens, the pacing runs off the track, and the tightness of plot that I appreciated in the first two volumes is completely lost. One revelation after another spins the plot in all kinds of directions. Many which feel unnatural for the characters involved. The end is over-the-top. The final scene left me confused.

That being said, I still rated this book the same as the others in the series because my review accounts for the series as a whole. This really was one of only two possibilities the story could end, and although, I didn't particularly like it, it didn't feel wrong. Also, the art, coloring, layouts, and paneling all work well and continued to impress. Overall, this is a very good series with a sufficient conclusion.
