After having trouble rating books I decided to create my own rating ladder that I use when I want to rate books. I won't bore you with the very elaborate, descriptive version I use for myself. This is what it basically comes down to:
5.0: Perfect
4.5: Great
4.0: Very Good
3.5: Good
3.0: Average
2.5: Below average
2.0: Bad
1.5: Very Bad
1.0: Terrible
Also, please note that I always round down. I know this makes no sense mathematically, but it makes much more sense in this context to me. So that means if I give a book a 4.5 rating, I will put 4 stars instead of 5, since the book is not perfect and should not be treated as such.
