Also known as Edith Kunhardt Davis, she inspired her mother to write Pat the Bunny. She later wrote books herself, including sequels to her mother's classic children's book. She also illustrated 16 books.
Danny And The Easter Egg is an innocent, guileless little story reflecting a simpler time for young children. There is no great plot just the expectations and fun a young child would expect.
This book is about a little boy (alligator) who really loves easter. The story starts off by describing himself and his decorating their easter eggs and what there eggs look like and why. The main character Danny makes his egg red with a white D on it and calls it the "Danny Egg". Once his friends leave Danny puts the eggs that he decorated at the bottom of the stairs for the Easter Bunny to hide while he is sleeping. His parents put him to bed and tell him to sleep so that he can wake up faster. In the morning he wakes up and sees the empty basket so he goes straight to the backyard to start searching for his eggs. He not only finds his eggs but he finds some candy and a brand new easter coat that he puts on and goes to visit his grandma. The ending of this story is Danny giving his Danny egg to his grandma.
In my opinion this book should be considered a high quality picture book. The whole book including the from cover is filled with bright fun colors that go along with the holiday easter and it provides a very upbeat mood for the children who are reading it. There is enough text to tell the story but there also isn't an overwhelming amount. There is about one sentence on each page so it is very manageable for children to be able to read and there are no complicated words that would trouble them. This book also tells a story about how you don't get everything right away and that going to sleep before really any holiday is crucial for whatever is supposed to happen in the morning to happen. So whether kids celebrate easter or not they can relate this to whatever holiday they celebrate. I really enjoyed this picture book.
OK, this is another one of those where we have to be in our child mode to understand. It is a so simple description of an Easter egg hunt for Danny the crockodile/ alligator. The book did not say which. It apparently does say much to those little one who are in the middle of forming their inner child story. It got applause and joyful comments from all my PreK and Kinder classes this week.
