Amelia communicates with the heart of a friend who is walking on a journey with you.
She is the author of "Pray A to Z: A Practical Guide to Pray for Your Community" and "Isn't it Time for a Coffee Break? Doing life together in an all-about-me kind of world." Her writing has also been featured in 4 Chicken Soup for the Soul titles and in the international devotional "The Upper Room."
The introduction of Pray A to Z is one of the best I’ve read in a long time. There was a clear purpose and mission set forth in the making of this book.
Amelia begins the preface by writing that one morning around 2:00 AM she was awoken by her phone alarm, buzzing and beeping uncontrollably. It was an Amber Alert. Two children had been abducted. Her heart choked with fear, she lay back down and spent those early hours of the morning praying assiduously for the two children. By the time dawn came around and she was rolling out of bed, the kids had been found and were in safe custody, 1,100 miles away.
She, along with several of her friends, realized that their anxious prayers had been answered. That prayer had power. And we too often fail to initiate that power and allow it to flow through us. We permit our inadequacies to undermine the gateway we have to the Father, through prayer. How many times has someone asked you to pray for them? You, no doubt, obliged. But the question is – when was the last time you poured your heart out for that person, for your community, for the needs around you?
A pastor once explained it to me this way. Often, when we pray for someone, we are tempted to say “God, heal Bill. Help Maggie. Renew so-and-so’s faith.” No. That’s not it. That’s not what it’s supposed to be.
When we pray, we are to pray fervently. The pastor put to us that we are to pray for that neighbor across the street who has cancer like they are our child, our parent, that we would pray for that individual as if they were the dearest person in our life. Because to God, they are.
God is not moved by passionless prayer. God is touched when we ask for his heart for someone, and pray like they are everything to us. Because to God, they are.
And instead of lifting someone up as one of many on our long list of prayer requests, we have a duty to treat each name, each person, like the eternal soul they ought to be valued as. This is what it means to pray.
In Pray A to Z the mission is that you take each letter and topic and petition God on behalf of your community. Once we start to pray for people going through the adoption process and adoptive kids like they are our family and our struggles, things will start to change. It becomes real. And when it becomes real, and you are moved to pray with a unnamable vigor, God is there, and God is waiting to help.
That is the hope that I believe Amelia Rhodes has for each reader of her book. I intend to follow along these lines and use her devotional as a guide on what to pray for, when I have no idea where to start, and what struggles are facing my community. I would encourage you to do the same

Pray A To Z is an ingenious guide to topically organizing prayer requests into alphabetical categories so that you can pray in a systematic and focused way!
Each letter of the alphabet has 5 topics in this book that open with a Scripture, ideas for prayer based on the topic, and a sample prayer. The topics are relevant and contain great ideas on how to pray. They also serve as a guide for helping you create a customized prayer binder filled with the specific topics that make the most sense for your community’s needs.
Pray A To Z is an easy-to-use and highly practical book that aspiring prayer warriors will find particularly useful. I highly recommend this book, especially for those who want to pray more but have had difficulty finding their rhythm in the past.
This review is an excerpt from my original review that is published at Create With Joy.
Disclosure: I received a copy of this book from the publisher. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
Whether you’re a seasoned prayer warrior or just beginning to talk to God, Pray A to Z is guaranteed to bring new meaning to your prayer life. Profound in its simplicity, this book is an invaluable tool to keep us in conversation with God, and to keep the needs of others at the forefront of our minds. Because we pray to a God who answers, I can’t wait to see how this book changes the world around us.
Prayer is hard. We don't know what we are to be praying or we get distracted or we even forget to pray altogether. Rhodes has provided a practical guide to help us pray for our communities and their specific needs.
She shares her own story of being awakened by an Amber Alert alarm on her phone. “If only an audible alarm could jolt us out of our spiritual slumber every day and call us to prayerful action for our community,” she writes. A thought came to her. Instead of having one long prayer list, what if she prayed by topic. The idea of praying A to Z was born.
Rhodes found herself praying for more people with more concerns than ever before. She was praying deeply, intensely and with purpose.
She has compiled topics for prayer for each letter of the alphabet. Within each letter are three subjects for prayers of petition and then two topics for prayers of praise. A Scripture verse and a few prompting ideas are given and then a written prayer. The written prayer is not designed to be the end but only a springboard to additional praying.
I really appreciate this format. I want to pray for my community but never know what to pray for or how to pray. This book is a wealth of ideas and reminders. For example, under the letter C are suggestions to pray for those battling cancer, involved in court cases, and those who are caregivers. I know people in each of those categories and can now purposefully pray for them. I am also reminded to praise God for being Creator and Comforter. Every letter has great topics associated with them. For L I would pray for lawmakers, law enforcement, and those experiencing lack of medical care. I would also praise God for being light and love. On another day I'll be praying for teachers, those facing temptations, and those suffering from trafficking. I will also praise God for His trustworthiness and for truth.
This book can be used individually or in a group. I've been using it by praying one letter each day. That takes me well through the month, perhaps leaving off Sundays for other types of prayer. I have found myself praying for people and community situations I have long neglected. I don't get bored praying the same list over and over. Each day brings to mind new situations and people in need of prayer.
I highly recommend this book. It is not a book on how to pray, although she does give some suggestions if books for that. It is a great book that will inspire you to pray for your community in a systematic way.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book through Litfuse. My comments are an independent and honest review.
Amelia Rhodes’ Pray A to Z is a handy little resource for anyone who is new to a personal prayer time and/or is overwhelmed by the length of their prayer list. It’s divided into five topics per letter, making it easily accessible no matter how you choose to incorporate it into your life. Petition (asking) topics range from adoption to grieving to infertility to ugly thoughts… and even to trafficking and homelessness and incarceration. Each letter also includes praise topics which focus mostly on names of God, such as Burden-Bearer, Keeper of my Soul, and Prince of Peace. These all – petitions and praises – start with a related Bible verse then move to some guided prayer prompts and end with an example prayer. My only real complaint is that the praise topics don’t come first in each letter’s section, but that is minor in the overall scheme of things.
Bottom Line: Pray A to Z makes a nice addition to anyone’s spiritual arsenal and, considering the time of year we’re in, would be a great gift for new believers and prayer warriors alike. Use it in your personal prayer time or as a family or small group – or all of the above! The aesthetics of the book are so well done, too. Worthy Inspired Publishers do such a fantastic job with cover design and little touches inside and out that make their books special to own. Pray A to Z isn’t meant to be a book of prayers that you recite mindlessly, but as a stepping stone to deepen your prayer life and cover your community in grace. The possibilities are endless!

My Review:
Many people find it very difficult to pray. Whether it is praying in public or praying in private most people feel inadequate and therefore refuse or shy away from this task when it presents itself. But with the current state of our country as well as our communities it is imperative that we go to Jesus on their behalf and earnestly pray for God's help.
Amelia Rhodes has take this simple yet tedious task to heart and has inspired us to fall on our faces at God's feet and express that concern for the world around us. Her prayers are involved but very simple to express and understand. This is a book that requires no further understanding on prayer than what you may already have. It's that easy! Whether it's gratitude or grieving she has you covered!
The author takes a delicate somewhat scary task and makes it easier! Great book for anyone needing help with prayer.
**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the author. All opinions are my own.
Ms. Rhodes has written a handy and helpful little book in which she lists a variety of topics for which prayers are needed in our communities. She tells us that she has faced many situations when a friend or community member has shared a difficult experience he/she was facing and then asked for her prayers. I think we've all gone through such a scenario. Like Ms. Rhodes, we always respond with assurances, "Yes, of course!" Do we always follow through? Are we sometimes at a complete loss for words? Like this author, I know I am, and I believe we are not alone. To help us all in such a circumstance, "Pray A to Z" provides a list of problems: Addiction, Cancer, Infertility, Pain, everything from A to Z, with appropriate biblical references to guide us through prayer for our friends and community or family members; never again will we be at a loss, as help is at hand. I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway, and immediately recognized its value. It will forever reside in my bookcase, beside my Bible. Next time someone asks, "pray for us, won't you?" I can answer, "yes, absolutely," with conviction, and then find exactly the right words to say.
You really can't go wrong with this book! It might sound a little corny to list prayers from A to Z, but it greatly opened my mind to those that need my prayers(and yours). There are many that I don't think about on a regular basis, and this book has been a great reminder to do just that. Plus, it's not just prayers for those in need. There's also prayers of blessing and praise.
Each letter will get several topics, and each topic gets a page with a Bible verse, an assignment for prayer, and then a sample prayer. The author makes it clear that the prayers listed in this book aren't meant to be recited. They should be seen as "conversation starters". I firmly believe that prayers should come from my heart, not the heart of someone else, so I greatly appreciate that reminder from her.
To give you an example of what you might see: The letter "D" gets the topics of "Depression and Mental Health", "Divorce", "Dementia and Alzheimer's", which are "Prayers of Petition" and "Deliverer", and "Dwelling Place", which are "Prayers of Praise".
The book is super simple, but so helpful! You're encouraged to write notes and use this book and these prayers as just a starting point. (I'd recommend a separate journal or notebook for that, because there's not a ton of room left over. I don't write tiny, though.)
This book truly IS a practical guide for praying for your community. Again, you can't go wrong with it.
Praying is something I have always struggled with as a Christian. When I say this book I figured it would really help me out with how to pray. It is a wonderful book about who to pray over your town and right in your community. How to be purposeful and inspired in your prayer. How to share your burdens with the Heavenly Father.
Recently I have struggled with some medical issues. I haven't been feeling the best so I decided to pick up this book. I have been working on my prayers and I have to say this book has helped, inspired, and ultimately blessed me in numerous ways.
The author breaks down your fears of praying, teaches you how to organize your thoughts. She also creates a realistic guide for you. So that you can be genuine and pray deeply for the people you care about and the area that you live.
I believe that regardless if you are a seasoned prayer warrior, new Christian, or just starting to talk to God this book will be a blessing in your life. It will bring a new meaning to your prayers. Written in a profound way. This book teaches you the simplicity of prayer. This will be a book you will cherish along on your journey with God.

Community, according to my dictionary, is a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common. We all live in community whether as part of a small town or a large city, a remote rural area or a sprawling urban center. And even if your closest neighbor is miles away, we are all part of a larger group. I see the book Pray A to Z as a means to bring people closer together. This small book can make a big impact. Arranged alphabetically by topic, each passage begins with a verse of Scripture and then gives direction for specific prayer. Many of the topics are people and things I may not have included in my own prayer time without prompting, but are vital to the well-being of my community — court cases, foster families, eXcellence and generosity. The book is an effective resource to re-energize and re-focus personal prayer time or group prayer meetings. I also see it as a tool to compliment prayer-walking or driving as we go about our daily life.
If you want to up your prayer game, then consider Pray A to Z!
Recommended.
Audience: adults.

Consistent prayer has always been a challenge if I want to be intentional in my prayer life. I have no problem staying in prayer, but being intentional about praying about specific things that need prayer can be hard. Developing a prayer habit can also be hard and praying for community can even be more difficulty. I love how the author of Pray A to Z developed this awesome and practical guide to help with how we can pray for our communities. She shares very specific advice and specific life stories from her life that help us all identify with ways that we can be intentional about prayer. Rather than a long list of Prayers, she developed the idea of praying A to Z, which is super smart and, easy. This helped her to become more concerned with people and their needs, which helped her develop a more deeper prayer life. I love how she has made such a great compilation of prayer for the alphabet with prayer and petition. I love this book and think it is such an awesome tool for prayer. I highly recommend it and give it 5/5 stars! Thank you to the publishers for providing me a complimentary copy for my honest opinion. I was not compensated for my honest review. This book is inspiring and I think you will really enjoy it! Thank you to Litfuse!
I love books that are great tools! Books that you want on your shelf so you can pull them off in the future and dig into them again!

Pray A to Z : A practical Guide to Pray for your Community is a great tool to have on your shelf! Amelia Rhodes has set up the book so that you can look up a topic and go through that section to pray in that way for your friends, neighbors, etc.
So often our prayer life can seem scattered and disorganized. Instead of wandering from topics or requests, this book will help you make sense out of it all. Praying by topic of the people in your life is a simple way to organize things.
This book is sorted alphabetically, from A to Z (hence the title) and there are over 150 different topics for you to pray through; from adoption to zeal, I can honestly say I could not think of a subject that was not in here.
This is a great tool, for that time when you want to transform your prayer life. When you want to breath some fresh life into your prayer time, this book will help you focus and organize what you want to go through!
I enjoyed going through this book, and I look forward to having it as a tool for my prayer life and my library!
NOTE : I received a copy of Pray A to Z at no cost.
An encouraging little book that has the power to change your prayer life. Would make a great gift for someone new to the faith. The author has divided a myriad of community based prayer prompts for easy access in alphabetical order. A gem of a resource that embraces every kind of issue people come across in community -- violence, estranged relationships, law enforcement, nature care, grieving...the list goes on. Each topic is headed by a corresponding scripture, suggestions for how to pray over that issue and then a concise prayer you can use as a prompt. A really unique idea and could easily be used as a daily devotional.
I've recently finished participating in a women's bible study on prayer and I'm trying to broaden and deepen my conversations with God so this book showed up in my mailbox at the perfect time. I've been reading one page a day and then endeavoring to add my own petition to the Lord about the day's issue. This book has been a great encouragement as I work at making my own prayers more meaningful.
My thanks to Litfuse Publicity and Worth Inspired for providing me with a copy of this book.
I had heard a lot about "Pray A to Z" and had seen the cards that Amelia Rhodes had shared online, so I was excited to get my hands on a copy of this book. The book gives you 5 topics for each letter of the alphabet. The first 3 are petitions about areas that you may encounter in your life or those of people around you. The last 2 topics are ways to praise God for who He is. Each topic gives a Bible verse and an explanation of the topic and are followed with a prayer which is intended as a springboard to your own personal prayer on the topic. I liked how Amelia Rhodes gives a "How to use this book" section in the front of the book. Some of these topics I would never have thought of as things to pray for. I like the book as a platform to build off of to improve my prayer life.
My copy of the book has pages 49-96 repeated upside down between pages 48 and 49. I think it was just a fluke as I have not seen anyone else with the same problem. It isn't that big of a deal because all the pages are there in the correct order and these are just duplicates.
I got a free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own and voluntarily given. No compensation was received.
Amelia Rhodes book Pray A to Z fell into my hands at the right time. When I was feeling most powerless, this book was an invitation into the throne room. I am only one woman. I cannot do much. But I can get down on my knees. Each letter of the alphabet is represented through three prayers of petition and two of praise. Rhodes has covered topics so thoughtfully. So often I would turn to a new section and think that topic didn't apply to my community, but as I read her description and prayer, God would bring a situation or a need to mind. As I search for a place to serve my community, I am finding that it is in the quiet moments. It is in those moments of prayer that God pulls me out of myself and reminds me of the needs of those around me. No, I may not have much influence in a physical sense, but God has still asked me to come to him. Pray A to Z has been a wonderful tool in my prayer life. I would highly recommend this book for anyone looking for encouragement and refreshment in their prayer life.
My Thoughts On The Book: I love the way this book helps us pray with power and intensity! The simplicity of the layout makes the praying person pray with a deeper concern for family, friends, and community. I am a pastor and loved this book so much that I have introduced it in small steps to my congregation and prayer groups. It is a powerful teaching tool when you can develop a more disciplined prayer life. The A-Z layout gives us a diving off spot. Her categories don't have to be your categories, and her prayers don't have to be yours either, but they allow the Holy Spirit a starting place. I loved, loved, loved this book! It is a great way to a highly effective prayer life. I would highly recommend this book and give it 5 out of 5 stars.

Pray A to Z by Amelia Rhodes is a practical guide to pray for your community, as well as a devotional piece to focus on certain aspects from abuse to jealousy to love. With five topics for each letter of the alphabet, this handy dandy prayer list of topics to focus on will be sure to help even seasoned prayer warriors.
It starts with a focus topic, then a biblical verse, what to pray for and a sample prayer, all on one page for topic. Easy to read, to understand and along with the biblical verse for reference, Pray A to Z may guide you towards praying and caring for others in your community. In all, a guide for any one who just needs little guidance, or who are short on time or simply just something to refer to.
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher. I was not required to write a positive review, and have not been compensated for this. This is my honest opinion.
In "Pray A to Z" Amelia Rhodes gives us a practical guide to help us to pray for our communities and each of their specific needs.
Instead of having one long prayer list, what if she prayed by topic. The idea of praying A to Z was born.
Rhodes had found herself praying for more people with more concerns than she had before. She was praying deeply, and with purpose.
She has come up with topics for prayer for each letter of the alphabet. Within each letter are three(3) subjects for prayers and then two(2) topics for prayers of praise. There's a Bible verse and a few ideas that are given and then a written prayer.

Pray A to Z is a little 158-page book written by author Amelia Rhodes. The book is written topically from A-Z. The title suggests the reader will pray for their neighbors using any one of the topics suggested. With such topics as abuse, bulimia, cancer and many others this will make a great reference book for a special prayer need. The general field is prayer or Christian living.
My favorite prayer is Jehovah-Jireh (The LORD Will Provide). For each prayer, there is a piece of scripture, a prayer prompt, and a prayer for the topic. The author's style is suitable for the intended audience. The language is clear and the ideas are developed. Almost any prayer need is covered. I think the cover of the book is in good taste complimenting the book.
Disclaimer: "I was provided a free copy of this book. All opinions are my own."
Pray A to Z is a wonderful prayer guide! Organized alphabetically by topic, this little book is sure to make a big impact on its readers. Rhodes brings attention to a myriad of issues and struggles that many in our community are facing and calls us to be more mindful and intentional in our petitions and praise. I really appreciated the thoroughness and thoughtfulness of the suggested prayers, as well the pertinent scriptures that begin each section. Simple, yet effective, Pray A to Z is a great tool to use in your individual prayer life, as well as in a group setting.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. No review was required, and all thoughts expressed are my own.
Intentional prayer--it's a reminder we shouldn't need, and yet we do. Pray A to Z is a great resource for how to pray with purpose, with passion, and to pray beyond ourselves. While it gives specific prayers, it is also written in a way you can still keep your prayers very personal. It is a good book for the longtime believer, yet also a great gift to give a newer believer who doesn't have much knowledge regarding the power of prayer.
**I received a copy of the book from the publisher, but was under no obligation to write a review. My honest opinion has been provided without any requirement to give a positive review.**
like the idea of having a bit of specific direction with my prayer, and this new book, Pray A to Z, is a wonderful resource for that.
Pray A to Z is a book of prayer prompts that guides the reader in “a practical guide to pray for you community.” Each letter of the alphabet lists a few topics to pray for (like adoption, pain, neighbors, missionaries, etc.) along with a couple of praise topics that thank God for his character (like mercy, righteousness, & dwelling place). It’s a great starting place for spending some time in prayer as I start the day.
If you’ve ever said, “I’m not sure how to pray, or what to pray for,” then this is a problem solved. This book would be valuable to believers who want to pray in a more meaningful way. I plan to use this in 2017 as a devotional. Most of my prayers tend to revolve around my own immediate needs, with a few prayers for others sprinkled in. With Pray A to Z, my prayers will be guided by the needs of others. It’s a wonderful way to start a new year, don’t you think? I received this book from Litfuse. Opinions shared are mine.
I really enjoyed praying through this book! I took a letter a day, and prayed and creative journaled my way through the book. I ended up praying for issues that are near and dear to my heart, and issues I'd never thought to pray for. This is a great book for personal devotions, or with a small group. Big fan!
I almost passed on this book, as I didn't think it could have that much in it, but I requested it, and discovered I was wrong. There is a lot in this book.
The author somehow came up with 5 different topics for each letter of the alphabet...... a major feat in and of itself. Topics are covered such as adoption, sexuality, singles, love, homeless, and many more. Each topic has a Bible verse, and the reason to pray for or about that topic, which is followed by a prayer to pray. There are some prayers that could be prayed for anyone, but the book is geared for a community or neighborhood.
I didn't read the whole way through the book, but I browsed through it and read several of the prayers. I found them well done, and right on target. This is a great tool for anyone wanting to help their prayer life, especially in regards to praying for those around them.
I want to be a person who can be counted on to pray for others, but I often fall so woefully short! I get distracted and forget the person I promised to lift up to God. Or, sometimes I see the immense prayer request list from church and get totally overwhelmed.
Pray A to Z is exactly the book I need. Thoughtfully and comprehensively, it covers all manner of subjects and needs. With this book as a guide, I'll be able to care for my loved ones and community by praying like I promise I will.
I was excited to receive this book for free for review. I loved it as much as I hoped I would, and I know you will too.
This is a great book that is small enough to fit in your purse. It is also great because it saved me time. I feel as though I am always late, and this book made it so much easier to get praying done. In the car, waiting in line, anywhere really. I liked the way the book is separated and think that this would be a great way to teach kids in catechism how to find time to pray. I am giving this book a 5/5. I was given a copy, all opinions are my own.
A fabulous guide to praying for your community, with heartfelt petitions (three for each letter of the alphabet) and marvelous praises (two per letter). Rhodes has highlighted many areas I never would have thought of in this helpful book. Will definitely read it again, praying (and praising) from A to Z!
I confess: I have too easily promised to pray--for a friend, coworker, or neighbor; for a cause, a problem, or a hurt--but then find it hard to find the words. This is a helpful resources to direct your attention to what to pray for and helpful advice on how to get started. I found the searchable topics of prayer particularly helpful.
I was interested in reading Amelia Rhodes' book Pray A to Z: A Practical Guide to Pray for Your Community because I live in a rather difficult community. Crime and poverty are high, employment is low, and Christians and non-Christians alike are suffering with so many needs, I can't even count them all. Sometimes when I start to pray, I don't even know where to start or what to say. Pray A to Z is a specific plan for praying for personal needs, church needs, community needs, and so much more. The back cover says:
"Pray A to Z: A Practical Guide to Praying for Your Community will help you topically organize your prayer requests and lay the burdens of your community at the feet of our Heavenly Father. Whether you are praying for a friend's adoption journey, a neighbor's bankruptcy, or a family member's cancer, this book will give you Bible verses, prayer prompts, and prayer starts to guide you through praying for even the most difficult issues that affect the people you know and love. Perfect for either individual or group prayer, Pray A-Z will help you experience the peace that comes from communicating with God."
Yes, this is a book about praying for your community in general, but I was surprised at how specific it is and how personally applicable it is as well. My mind started filling in people who I know personally from church who have needs in these different areas, as well as praying generally for people in the community struggling with these needs. This is a small book with the most adorable cover ever (seriously, it looks so friendly and inviting that it just begs you to pick it up!) and is divided, obviously, into 26 sections (one for each letter of the alphabet). Each letter contains three prayer request topics (ie, A - Adoption, Abuse, Alcoholism) and two "praise" prayers (ie, A - Abundance, Almighty). A short scripture, explanation of the topic, and example prayer are included for each. It gives you a simple yet powerful plan for prayer, and has given me so many new ideas and areas of prayer. I really loved the quote in the introduction of Pray A to Z, which seemed to capture the heart of the book: "I'm finding prayer can happen everywhere, not just on my knees by the bed or during a few minutes of quiet at church. I'm learning to direct my internal conversations back to God all day long." What a great perspective and challenge. Highly recommended.
I received a copy of this book from Litfuse in order to provide an honest and unbiased review. All opinions are my own.
